2 drive setup with bootcamp

Is it possible to have osx on drive 1, and vista on drive 2... keeping them seperated from each other rather then partition one drive? Would it be possible, better, worse, pros, cons, pluses, minuses, ridiculous, looney, you get the idea.......

It's possible. I'm not sure if you have to have OS X installed on the drive but you can verify that in Boot Camp Assistant. It will display all eligible drives. I can't see, however, what benefit there would be since you cannot run OS X and Windows simulataneously if you use Boot Camp.

    I have a Dual-Drive iMac with a 1TB SSD(primary) and a 6TB SATA(secondary) harddrive.
I have BOOTCAMP on the primary with Windows 7. I happen to be primarily a windows user. So I would like to use(read and write) most of the 6TB on the SATA drive as my  windows storage. I would like to know if this is possible and if so how could I  go about this without destroying the contents in the SATA drive(some mac folders).
Appreciate it, if someone could point me to the right resources or instructions to do this.
    Thanks.

Thank you for the response. Here are answers to your questions:

  • Reboot failure from cancelling windows setup with bootcamp!

I tried to run bootcamp. During the setup process, there was an error message so I decided to quit the setup. Now my computer will not reboot correctly and I'm freaking out. Are there any key functions that I can use to reboot? All I see is a black screen with a blinking line that looks like the underscore...I am just switching from windows to mac, so this is all brand new to me

Ok NOW I was able to get my windows xp cd to eject. Now my computer is prompting me to install Leopard again? And when I get to the Select a Destination box, NOTHING appears/ Can someone help me please! I am so fed up with this thing!

  • Mac Pro RAID 0 setup with bootcamp

I'm about to take the plunge and buy a Mac Pro as soon as I get the money (or credit) to. There have been things here and there that have turned me off but I found ways around some concerns, but this one I haven't been able to find.
I am a musician and want to utilize raw power that Mac does so well with. But unfortunately my DAW of choice doesn't support OS X. I hate Vista, I never upgraded, I stayed with XP but have been willing to change to OS X with XP as well, to get the best of both worlds. Then i find my DAW doesn't support XP 64 bit so i am going to have to use Vista 64-bit (bummer).
What I haven't been able to figure out is if it is possible to run a RAID 0 of the windows OS and all its data. The Mac Pro RAID card doesn't support any Windows OS so i am wondering if there is anyway possible to get the Windows OS in RAID, any good hardware or software that will accomplish this. Like if i get the Mac Pro RAID cad, is there a good software or hardware RAID that will allow me to install windows in a RAID 0 configuration?
If its possible I would have no reasons to not move over, but I really need to have my RAID setup in windows since I am using latency sensitive disk streaming programs that need to stream files in the GBs
Also could I just opt out for the Mac Pro Card and get a generic RAID card that supports both Windows and OS X? And if so any recommendations?

I'm glad you are in the planning stages!
The question I didn't know to ask is always the one that bites the worst.
One of the best options might be the RR 4320

I didn't want to see you invest in SAS and not get performance level you want.

MacWorld SanFran in a couple weeks is when Apple traditionally would use to announce some of the new products for the next year (Snow, Mac Pro '09, new iMac, etc).
Apple is not very upgradeable. It would cost me more to upgrade the cpu than buy new (though can get a good $$ on my system - in part because it runs the prior version of OS X 10.4 "Tiger". New systems will only run the current/latest OS, you won't be able to run Leopard if a system comes with Snow. The graphic choices and upgrades can be lame. It is almost a closed box.)
I've talked to people that were into audio that used Fibre Channel in part due to low latency, increased queue depth (which is one area SATA has never implemented, 32 vs 256 I/O per sec).
+Forget trying to use the Apple search to find threads, it is 'busted' if I can't find the thread mbean and I had with someone only last week on RAID5/6. I turned to Google to find this thread +

Shanghai’s 16 cores outperformed Dunnington’s 24 cores (or 48 if Hyper-Threading was used) by 6.5% or 8.8% depending on whether or not IBM or Dell’s chipset was used. But if we normalize that out per core, Shanghai outperforms by 59.8% (per core) or 63.2%. That is unbelievable!

  • Trying to install Windows 7 with Bootcamp on my Macbook with a faulty CD drive

I am trying to install Windows 7 with Bootcamp on my Macbook A1278 (OS 10.6.8) with a faulty CD drive (CDs and DVDs get stuck in it and I had to get it removed in an Apple store, so I don't want to use it anymore). I have got a licence for the product but I am only in possession of the ISO, is there any way to install it using a USB stick?
I don't have many options while launching Bootcamp, only
"Download the Windows support software for this Mac" but when I try I get a message explaining me that the download could not continue as the software is not available,
    or
"I have the Mac OS X installation disc [...]" but obviously I can't use my CD drive so this is not an option. I tried it anyway and I created a Windows partition but when asked to "start the Windows installer", I can only continue by insering a CD.
I tried to use a USB stick and added the ISO on it but nothing has changed.
How can I install my copy on Windows?...

BobTheFisherman > Hem, yeah, that is stating the problem and not working toward resolving it.
Turbostar > I checked the link and it seems to be relating to the first video I have seen on the subject. I tried to install Tuxera then to work with rEFIt, but I did not get any result yet (I don't know if I am doing something wrong during the USB writing process as many different ways are explained on different websites).
So far my last try was to launch Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool on VMware Fusion but it the only disk shown is A:\ Removable disk (not the name of my USB) and it is stated that the disk is being used by another program, even though it's not open on the Mac side.
Some websites are advising to write the copy of windows on a USB via a PC and then launch it on the Macbook, so I might try that in the next few days. I will keep you updated.
If anyone has another option I might not have think about, or an advice on how to efficiently create a bootable Windows setup USB with my Mac, please let me know!

  • How to use a usb with bootcamp on a computer with a cd drive

I have a macbook pro late 2011 and I want to install windows on it. I dont have any cds or dvds that I can burn and I want to be able to use a usb instead. I found another post which lets me make a bootable windows 8 usb but when I try to install it with bootcamp it just says no bootable device instert boot disk and press any key to try again and I cant install it even if i remove the usb and try again. I then powered off my computer and held down option and got the operating system chooser page and I saw efi boot. I selected that and I was able to boot into the setup for windows when it asks me where I want to install Windows, I choose Partition 4, the Bootcamp partition. It shows the error message that Windows cannot be installed because the selected disk is of the GPT partititon style so i try to format it in the setup but that fails and gives me the same error message. I dont know what to do. Can anyone help me?

Have you used Bootcamp Assistant to create the partition for Windows?
If your Mac came with a cd drive then you'll almost certainly need to use that cd drive to install Windows. Some have published workarounds by changing a .plist file but it is not always successful.

    Hi Christian,
depending on the file system that you use with your BootCamp Windows, two possibilities:
    If using FAT32 : http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=717201&start=0&tstart=0
    If using NTFS : http://www.twocanoes.com/winclone/

Read and follow the Bootcamp Installation instructions that you were offered to view when you ran Bootcamp Assistant.
Run Bootcamp Assistant again and select the option to download the Bootcamp Support software. Follow the instructions. Then boot into Windows and install the Windows Support software you downloaded and saved.

  • Using the isight camera in the bootcamp setup with windows 8.1

    Hi
I am running OSX Maverick in a bootcamp setup with Windows 8.1 and have played around with the isight camera but I would like to know what folder the photo's/video's are sent to?
Also, are there any settings or user guide for the isight camera in Windows 8.1?
    Thanks

I don't use Boot Camp, but does anything here help you? Boot Camp - Apple Support.
My look there did not show anything about the new Windows 8.1.  The latest I saw was Windows 8.

The answer will be wherever the app you are iusing for the capture stores them unless you change the default location.  This answer is the same for either Windows or Apple operating systems.
