2 Flash Questions. 1. Make controller dissapear? 2. Status bar beneath movie?

How can I make the controller automatically dissapear once the movie starts? Right now the controller appears on top of the movie, and only dissapears if you click somewhere on the page? Secondly, how can I have a status bar beneath the movie, so that a user can quickly movie around to the front or near the end of the movie? Thanks.

Dedicated streaming from a streaming media server behaves differently than pseudo streaming (aka progressive download).  You can't skip through sections of video unless/until media has fully loaded into cache. If you have an exceptionally long video, you should divide into smaller chapters or segments.  Chapter 1, chapter 2, etc...  Then use a Flash player with Playlist capability to bring all segments into a single player.
You could do this in a Flash authoring program using action script.
Wimpy Player is good for this -  http://www.wimpyplayer.com/
Coffee Cup Video Player is another option - http://www.coffeecup.com/video-player/
Good luck.

  • Netflix app. How to make the battery/time status bar disappear?

When I watch a streaming movie on my iPad the little bar at the top of the window which shows wi-fi strength, time and battery status is constantly there and annoying. During one movie it disappeared and watching the movie was more enjoyable. I don't know why it disappeared and wondered if anyone has found a preference to make that bar go away when the movie is running? It can be done, I just don't know how.
    Thanks

Aah! So simple! One less annoyance in my meager existence. Thanks Bizzle555!

  • Flashing Question Mark & Sad Apple Logo

I had my Mac for quite some time and everything seem to be going well until yesterday, when I pressed the power key all it showed was a white screen and the apple logo, I had called Tech and they said i was out of warrenty, but informed me that it would best to load the Mac OS X cd when I loaded and reached the select a destination part I saw my hard drive with an explanation point. she stated this was bad and that i would need to compeltely whipe the hard drive which didnt bother me. I went to Disk Utilities and chose my hards drive clicked options and choose to zero all data, also clicked download OS 9 drives. After waiting for about an hr it was completed, and i gave it a volume and went on with the installation i choose the volume and all seemed well. yet, after the computer rebooted and all i saw was a Flashing Question Mark & Sad Apple Logo. not quite sure what this means but checked other threads and followed some of the advised given to repair this, yet for me it doesn't work, as of now i tried erasing all data again but now it seems i can't set a volume. Not 100% percent sure which OS cd i have i will double check and reply later, I have a powerbook G4. any help would be great.
      Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Hi Richard,
I was hoping you'd respond Thanks to the link to S.M.A.R.T reporter, but things have deteriorated since my last post and now it won't boot up at all.
I hit the power button, hear the start-up chime, then nothing but eerie silence and a gray screen.
The lack of noise usually created by a HD spinning up should be obvious that this is indeed a hard drive issue, but I want to make sure I can sound intelligent when throw myself at the guy who replaced the drive.
I tried booting from a 10.3 install cd (holding down 'c' at startup) to run Disc Utility but it won't even do that. I can hear the cd-rom spinning, reading the disc, but after a while it just gives up. In fact, I think if I listen hard enough, I can hear the faintest sound of mocking laughter....
Is this painfully, obviously, a hard drive gone bad?
It's not the end of the world, just very aggravating.

  • Flashing Question mark Folder and clicking - no start up.

    Dear Mac Users,
I've already got some info on the above, but my 3.5year old G5 iMac wont get past the flashing question mark folder icon. It can't find the start-up drive. The think the hard drive is dead - if I start up from external HD it's OK and/or Tiger CD - but the mac's HD is nowhere to be seen on any disk utility.
Just bought Disk Warrior - that wont see the iMac HDrive either - so unless anyone has got a fix, it looks like the thing will be dumped or I get a new HD. Are these easy to buy and fit? It's a Rev A model, (the buzzy first edition). I haven't got all my files backed up, just the key ones, which are now on a new alum iMac. Or I could run it off an external drive (noisy, though).
I had been moving the G5 around a lot (switched off) before it went belly up - could this be a cause?
Maybe it'd been feeling left out, with the new 24in installed.
Hope someone can shed further light.
    Rob
(PS - anyone want buy my Disk Warrior?)

Your drive is dead, you can look in [macsales.com] or [smalldog.com] for a new new one. The drive isn't too difficult to replace, you can do it yourself, and do get the largest one you can afford, just make sure it's a 3.5" SATA.
Keep your DiskWarrior, you never know when it'll come in handy.

  • Flashing Question Mark in Folder at Startup - Retrieving Lost Data on HD

I've had my macbook for 9 months and Thursday it started making a clicking noise. I remember accidentally opening iMovie, then all my applications slowed down. The rainbow wheel wouldn't go away and everything froze (clicking noise continued). So I shut it down manually using the power button and instead of starting up, the flashing question mark in a folder popped up. I took my computer to an Apple Store and they told me I can either get the hard drive replaced, meaning all my data would be lost, or I could contact a hard drive recovery company to try to retrieve as much of it as possible. They said it would be fairly expensive ($500-$1000)..
Does anyone have any experience with any of these companies? Do they try to fix your old hard drive (I've noticed that a number of other people have had problems with 9-month old macbooks) or do they retrieve as much data as they can and save it to a new hard drive? And how long could this process take? I am a college student and I need access to a computer as well as the information on my own laptop.

Funny I has a very similar problem with my 8 mo old MacBook on the 15th and got the same reply from the Genius at the Apple Store today.
I spoke with someone at one of those companies located in the Boston area. They could look at my computer with in the hour if it was an emergency, turn around time could be pretty quick or take up to a week. They charge $95 to look at it and then will give you a list of files they can retrieve. You can then make a decision as to whether they should go ahead and recover. The fee for them to actually recover your files is $500 at a minimum and it could be higher. They do not fix your hard drive. They said my warranty would still be valid when they were done. hope that helps...I can't decide what to do for myself, it was just pictures that I had not backed up yet. Good luck.

  • Flashing Question Mark in a Folder

    Hello All:
I have an iMac 24" (Model A1225; Mid 2007) running 10.7.3.  The CPU will rarely boot up and will boot up with the Flashing Question Mark in a folder most of the time.  I can start up from a OS DVD (Snow Leopard) or Lion on a Flashdrive, but the HDD will not appear when I attempt a reinstall.  I was able to boot up once from my Lion Flashdrive and reinstall 10.7.3 with a normal restart.  The HDD checkout fine using disk utility and I repaired my disk permissions. The CPU seemed fine and this morning the Flashing Question Mark is back.
I can start up the Target disk mode and I will see the FireWire icon, but the HDD will not appear on the desktop of the host CPU.  I have a new iMac on order, but do you think it is wise to pull my data from the HDD via the Target disk mode or my Time Capsule?  I guess I am not sure if it is the logic board or a bad HD.
    Thanks in advance,
    Irv

It sounds more like a failing drive or a drive in need of repair. Have you tried repairing it?
Repair the Hard Drive - Lion
Boot from your Lion Recovery HD. When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
If the drive is repairable then you will need to reinstall Lion:
Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
If none of this works then I would definitely backup your data, but not with Time Machine. I would make a backup to a separate drive, not the Time Capsule, using Carbon Copy Cloner.

  • Folder with face and flashing question mark, what to do when this happens?

I'm sure this has been asked a million times, please help, my brother has a ibook G4, OSX 10.3.9, about 3 years old and now when he turns on the ibook it has a folder with a face in it and a flashing question mark. Do you just leave it and it will sort it self out or is there something to do to make it go away? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

I have replaced a 40 G harddrive with a seagate 160 G drive. When I try to start it it only comes up with the flashing question mark. I have tried to boot off the install CD, but it only flashes the question mark. This is my daughters computer and she really needs it to work for school.
I have tried to "restore" using my new Mac Book and the old 40 G drive in an external USB case. But still is no good. I have used DiskWarrior and the drive will boot.
This is an ibook G4 running 10.4.2

  • I got this flashing question mark, i did some research into this and found out that the hard drive is the cause

i recently found my ibook and decided to see if it would still turn on. it did but i got this flashing question mark, i did some research into this and found out that the hard drive is the cause. so i opened it up replaced the hard drive and closed it up, booted from the disc and crossed my fingers but it did not pick up the hard drive. i thought it might not have been installed properly, so i opened it up to check the connections to make shure they were secure and closed it back up but now it wont even boot from the disc. so dose anyone know whats wrong with it because i really don't just want throw it away if its a simple fix. please if anyone know i would greatly appreciate it.
    <Re-Titled By Host>

There often were more than one build of Apple computer per model number designation...
In the instance of iBook (white dualUSB) there appear to be two with number A-1007.
And both of these were 14-inch display models.
    •iBook G3/800 14-Inch (32 VRAM - Tr) 800 MHz PowerPC 750fx (G3)
    •iBook G3/900 14-Inch (Early 2003 - Op) 900 MHz PowerPC 750fx (G3)
•Apple iBook Specs (All iBook Technical Specs) for entire series - everymac:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/index-ibook.html
There are a few fairly good repair guides online, some on http://iFixit.com site.
Here's the link to the early iBook G3 series, includes color + white dualUSB.
If your iBook is a 14-inch G3 white dualUSB model that one is there, too:
    •iBook G3 Repair guides - iFixit:
    https://www.ifixit.com/Device/iBook_G3
Either of these may be able to run a system no later than OS X Tiger 10.4.11.
So a system install disc set could be used to troubleshoot, install, restore &
prepare a replacement hard drive for a new system.
Not certain what the issues are behind your situation, there may be more than
meets the eye. Some models of iBook were more prone to hardware problems
and as they age, fewer opportunities to affordably repair them exist.
Good luck in resolving the iBook G3 issues...!

  • Flashing question mark

I have a Mac mini that seems to be on its way to the great computer graveyard in the sky. I hope you folks can help me bring it back from the dead.
When I start the mini the usual gray screen comes up and after about 15 seconds or so the dreaded blinking folder with the question mark appears. To date I have tried the following solutions recommended on this forum and by Apple itself. None have worked:
    1) Resetted the PRAM by pressing Command-Option-P-R before powering on. I had a USB-based Apple keyboard plugged in. I held the keys as instructed but the mini never rebooted. Eventually the blinking question mark folder appeared.
    2) Attempted to boot the machine using a Snow Leopard Installation DVD. I press and held the 'C' button before powering. After a few seconds the gray screen appeared and the DVD drive spun for about 10-15 seconds. As it stopped spinning the dastardly blinking folder appeared. Unfortunately the Snow Leopard disc now appears to be stuck in the drive - it won't eject.
    3) Swallowed hard, pryed open my wallet and very carefully installed a new Hitachi Travelstar 500GB SATA drive using the instructions at iFixit.com. Crossed my fingers, made an offering to the computer gods and pressed the power button. BZZZZT. No luck, after the DVD spun for about a half a minute my old nemesis, Mr Blinking Question Mark Folder appeared on screen. I think he's laughing at me.
I'm thinking of trying a semi-desperate remedy. Slapping my new, unformatted drive into an external enclosure, formatting it and backing up my 13" aluminum MacBook to this drive using SuperDuper. Then moving this backed up drive from the external enclosure into the Mac mini. The MacBook is up to date with 10.6.3.
Will this work? Or is it a waste of my time?
    Any other potential solutions? Advice?

The flashing question mark icon means that it can't find a system to boot from. The first thing that would spring to mind when seeing this is that the hard drive is damaged... either physically or just the data structures.
    2) Attempted to boot the machine using a Snow Leopard Installation DVD.
If you can't boot from an appropriate Mac OS X install disk, then you've got bigger problems. Likely, you have a serious hardware problem and will need to contact Apple for assistance. I suppose that it is possible that your hard drive and either your DVD drive or your install disk both went bad at the same time, but it's unlikely.
The big question is, should your computer boot from the disk you used. Did the Mini already have Snow Leopard installed, and if not, is it capable of running Snow Leopard? Is the disk you used a retail Snow Leopard disk (with a picture of a snow leopard on it) or is it a gray disk with the name of a specific machine on it? If it's the latter, and it didn't ship with the Mini, it won't work with the Mini.
If the install disk you're using should work in the Mini, make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your [local Apple Retail Store|http://www.apple.com/retail> and take the machine in for someone to look at.
Unfortunately the Snow Leopard disc now appears to be stuck in the drive - it won't eject.
Hold down the mouse button while starting up.

  • 4 Simple Flash Questions that Are Stumping Me!

What is the Frame Rate for Web Animations
Q1. I am making an animation which will be played on the web. What is the default frame rate (fps) of Flash CS5? And what is the frame rate of for web?
Q2. My animation needs to be 30 seconds long. So at 15 fps that would mean I need to use 600 frames in Flash?
How Do I Mask everything so all I see is the Content on the Stage?
I have a wide image that extends past my movies stage size so when I preview my movie the image is visible. How do I mask out anything that extends past my movies window size? I believe I can create a layer named "mask" and place it above all other layers, but I forget how to make the mask. Any help is appreciated.
    How to Fade a Graphic
I have a graphic element (some type) and I want it to fade from 0% to 100%. In older versions of Flash I could just select the symbol and then set it's alpha value to 0%, move a few keyframes and then set the alpha to 100%. Voila! but now it doesn't seem to work that way. How can I do this in CS5?

Ned, it says 24 fps which means there is 24 frames per second so each 24 frames is 1 second.

1 You can create your character as a movieclip and copy/paste that movieclip from one file to another. 2. One way to create a movieclip is to copy all the frame of the animation's timeline (select them all, right click the selection, choose Copy Frames), then create a new movieclip symbol (Insert -> New Symbol...etc) right click on its only keyframe and chhose Paste Frames.  THat will put all the layers and frames you copied into the movieclip The only way to come close to being certain about the timing of you animation is to use code to keep track of the time, something like getTimer()..  The frame rate that a file plays at is not a reliable means of dictating the time it takes due to a variety of factors which include the amount of content you are trying to process and performance limits of the user's machine.

  • Flashing Question Mark on Sawtooth

Hello. I've got an upgraded Sawtooth that I'm having problems booting off the Hard Drive. First off, here's the system:
    Sawtooth G4 (AGP Graphics)
    Sonnet 1000/2M G4 upgrade
    1.25GB of PC133
    Flashed ATI 9800 PRO w/ 128MB RAM
    DVD-ROM - I don't remember what brand
350Watt ATX PSU converted for use in Mac
    Generic no-brand PCI-to-USB2.0 adapter (5port)
ACARD ATA133 PCI-to-IDE card (w/ large HD support)
    200GB Maxtor ATA100 Hard Drive
USB RaLink G Wireless Adapter (sometimes - shared with eMac)
Notes: Fresh PRAM battery and extra fan installed about 4 months ago.
The first 3GB of the drive is partitioned for OS9 (for legacy support), but I don't have anything installed on it. The remaining (like 186? GB) has Tiger installed on it, with iLife and all available updates. My little brother uses it for light gaming, and recording himself playing the guitar w/
    GarageBand.
Anyways, I had a problem a month or so ago where it stopped booting properly, and would sit there flashing a question mark/floppy drive. I could boot off the 10.4 install cd, and the drive would show up fine. Choose Start-up, select that disk, and it would yield the same results. So I did an archive and install, and it worked fine. Ran the same updates to bring it to 10.4.11, had to re-install iLife (they stopped working after that, even after the 4.11 update), and went on my way.
Well anyways, now it's doing it again. It just sits at that flashing question mark for hours. I can boot off the CD, and the drive passed verification and permission checks. Nothing has changed since last time it booted fine, and when it decided to do this again.
I've tried everything that I can think of, either from here or past experience. Removed all extras; removed the unneeded PCI cards (can't boot off the 200GB w/ out ACARD PCI card); reset PRAM; reset-NVRAM; OF reset-all; verified OF date&time; reset the PMU; unplugged it and left it w/o a battery for 48 hours. Nothing has worked.
Does anyone have an idea that can help me out? I've worked on plenty of Macs in the past, G3s to new Intels, but I'm at my wits end on this one. Even if I do reinstall and update, is there something that is incorrect, maybe w/ the driver for the ACARD adapter that is causing it to write to the HD incorrectly when it shuts down? IDK, and if you can help me, please do!

The flashing question mark appears when your Mac cannot find:
    The preferred OS Type {macOS, Linux, BeOS, Joe's garage shop special}
    Of the preferred Version {7.5.3, 8.1, 10.4, 0xFF}
    On the preferred Startup Disk { ATA 0 Master, SCSI 0 drive 6, device 0xFF}
All these things are stored in the Parameter RAM. If the power fluctuates, even for an instant while your PRAM Backup battery is weak, it may allow corruption to creep into those parameters.
A good battery should measure over 3.2 Volts in Hand, a little less is OK when measured in-circuit with the AC power plug removed. Anything less should be replaced. They are available from online vendors for as little as US$8 delivered, or from Radio Shack for US$20+.
A PRAM Reset with the tiny button is required after replacing the battery.
A bad battery is much easier to fix than any of the other problems you could be having. Make sure the battery is good first, because a weak battery makes all other debugging more difficult.

  • PowerBook 145B shows pic of floppy disk with flashing question mark

I recently discovered a PowerBook 145B in my garage. When I turn it on, it makes the start-up sound but then goes to a blank screen with a picture of a floppy disk with a flashing question mark.
I don't have any of the original floppies that would have come with it. Is there anything I can do to make it work?

    Hi,
The technical specifications for the PowerBook 145B can be found here.
Although the original operating system was 7.1 (not free), you could try System 7.0.1 instead (see KB article TA33972) instead. System 7.0.1 is available for download from Apple (for example, US and British versions). Access to another older Macintosh computer (with a built-in floppy drive) would normally be required in order to create properly sector-copied floppies from disk images. If absolutely necessary, the British version (which is provided as individual images) can even be used to produce the system disks on a PC (using a special technique).
System 7.5.3 is also available (e.g., US and British), but may not be ideal for a computer with a small hard drive and limited RAM. A boot floppy (use the Network Access Disk 7.5 here) is not included in the 7.5.3 download.

  • Intermittent Flashing Question Mark Folder

I've got a iBook g4 that seems to be having an intermittent problem booting. A few months back on boot it came up with a flashing question mark folder. After trying a few things it finally booted OK. For months all was good; until yesterday. The same thing happened again. I tried to boot from an install CD to run disk utility, but the drive didn't show up. After a few attempts I was able to successfully boot in target disk mode. After that it booted OK again. I noted in the log a number of I/O errors which makes me think the hard drive is starting to fail. Anyone have any other thoughts or suggestions?

It looks like things are getting worse. I ran diagnostics and everything passed. Is there a reasonable way to make sure the hard disk is the problem? It now will boot only rarely; sometimes hanging on a gray apple screen, sometimes showing disk I/O error messages in the upper left corner of the display, sometimes showing the question mark folder, and occasionally booting. Replacing the hard drive is reasonable, but I'd like to have a measure of confidence that will fix the problem.

  • GSoD, flashing question mark folder

Okay, after reading here a bit the suggestions aren't fixing my particular issue. We have a black MacBook running 10.3.
On boot, the GSoD comes up, and then the flashing question mark folder.
Tried putting in the Install CD and pressing at various times S, C, Apple, Shift, and Option. The Option gives a cursor but nothing else.
Pulled the DIMMS, cleaned off a white dust, and then installed them one at a time. No luck.
Wife had reported slowness during the evenings but she attributed that to me being on my computer.
    Thoughts?
    Leam

    Hi Leam,
Are you sure it's running OS X 10.3? Reason I ask, is because the MacBook was released with 10.4.6 (May 2006). So if it's running Panther then the unit was downgraded. Matter of fact, I don't even think you can put 10.3 on an Intel Mac. Not to mention, OS X 10.3 doesn't offer Rosetta support so you wouldn't be able to install Intel applications on the machine.
Regarding the flashing question mark/folder icon, that's indicative of a missing, bootable OS. Which can translate into some of the following scenarios:
1.) The OS is corrupted and needs to be repaired or reinstalled
2.) The OS cannot be located because the HD is failing or has failed
3.) The HD's connection to the logic board has been lost or damaged and thus a proper boot sequence cannot be performed.
I'm unsure where you read about the "S" key on startup, the "C" key makes sense to try and boot off the disc drive. I take it that didn't actually occur, though?
I've seen scenarios where a HD can lock up the system bus and cause boot issues, like you're experiencing. Basically it prevents the optical drive from being accessed, despite valid startup keyboard commands. If you can't boot normally or off the installation disc, the next scenario would be the following:
1.) Remove the HD from the unit, mount it into an external enclosure and attempt to boot from a CD and repair the external HD.
2.) Bring the unit into a service provider / retail store for further diagnostics.

  • Apple TV shows a flashing question mark after trying to update

    Hello everyone!
I own a first generation Apple TV which I updated succesfully up to v2.1 so far. By then this procedure came along with more or less the same problems I'll describe below - but up to now the updates always worked some day.
Now I wanted to update my ATV to v2.2 and used the usual update feature in the settings. ATV downloads the update, asks for updating and then restarts with an ATV-logo with a flashing question mark.
    What I've done next:
    1. Pulling out the power plug leads to a restart with the old v2.1
    2. Holding down MENU + Minus on the remote restarts the ATV with Apple TV Recovery Mode
2.1 Restart leads to a restart with the old v2.1
2.2 Diagnostic analysis says ATV is free from defects
2.3 Restore resets the ATV to v1.0
    3. Now I've got v.1.0
    4. Step 1 leads to a restart with v1.0
    5. Step 2 to leads to the same results (restart leads to a restart with v1.0)
So what am I to do? I'm out of warranty and don't want to pay for a malfunctioning update feature
