2 GB iPod Nano Standby Time

My father-in-law just got a 2nd Gen iPod Nano refurbed from Apple on Saturday. We charged it up to a full charge then unplugged it. It then sat on the counter until Wednesday morning and it was dead. Is this normal? Should we get it repaired?
I have an iPod Classic and this doesn't happen but it has a much bigger battery.
Thanks,

If the Nano was off, it is not normal. They have about 24-hour battery life while playing (music). But turned off, the charge will hold a long time. Is there any chance that it was actually left on?

  • IPod Nano date & time

iPod Nano updated to 1.3 does not have any place for Indian date & time settings. is there any specific update for this or Apple has forgotten India.

as a workaround, perhaps try setting your main clock to one of the Indian cities, as per the following document:
    iPod: Setting up multiple clocks
(there are settings for Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi ... are any of them in your specific time zone?)

  • Lack of good functionality for iPod Nano alarm timer?

Hi, I'm the proud new owner of a Gen 2 - 2GB Nano, and I had figured that between the Sleep function, the Alarm function, and the Stopwatch function, it would be something I could use to listen to music while working out, and at the same time use it as a timer for the couple of exercises I do that I'd like to time (as opposed to counting).
I would think this would be a key use of Nanos by many people, but what I find is that all of the options are less than desirable.
Alarm: I could set the alarm to go off at the allotted time, but what I would want is the "beep" and for the "beep" to come through the headphones. I'm listening to music using the headphones, so I don't to hear the "beep" emitting from the Nano's "internal speaker". Selecting a Playlist to be the alarm sound does work to alert me to it being time to switch exercises, but "switch" is the key problem here because it switches to that new (or the beginning of the same) Playlist. In other words, the main function of the Nano for me is to listen to music, and perhaps that will be an entire album while I work out, but using the Playlist feature for the sound of the alarm means I will be interrupted in the midst of, say, track 4 of the Playlist I'm wanting to listen to for my workout.
Sleep Timer function: Only allows me to select in 15 minute intervals (I need 11 or 12 minutes for one particular exercise, though I could live with 10 minutes, but that’s not even there). Plus the abrupt shutoff of the music that's playing is horrible. The intent of the Sleep Timer function of course makes the 15 minute interval choices make sense, but a bit of a fade for the music shutoff would be an improvement (and less likely to wake someone up who was just drifting off). If the Sleep Timer could actually let me set the number of minutes, it would be my solution (since upon stopping the music that’s playing, that position in the Playlist is retained and one can start listening again where one left off).
Stopwatch: Stopwatch isn't really useful for what I'm trying to do. It would be, of course, if it had a "timer" setting that let you program it for a number of minutes to count down, then upon reaching zero it would beep in the headphones along with the music being played, or just fade the music that’s playing, similar to what the Sleep Timer does, though it does it abruptly...
    So two questions:
    1. Do any more experienced iPod owners know of a way I can do what I’m trying to do? (Play music, be alerted when a specific number of minutes are up, and not have the position in the Playlist of the music I’m listening to be lost.)
    2. What is the way to make suggestions to Apple for changes to the iPod software?
    Any help/comments appreciated!
    Thanks,
Rich Apple (and yes, Apple is my name, and no, Apple the company has never seen fit to give me a computer and take advantage of the wonderful “stealth advertising” I would naturally be… Oh, your name is Apple? Do you own the computer company? Well, no, but they actually did give me a computer; that’s how groovy they are.)
    Nano 2GB Generation 2

Thank you, Jeff, for the couple of answers. I did put in a couple enhancement requests via the http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html link, and I imagine such requests carry more weight if others also request them.
I requested that Apple make it so one can be alerted to an alarm via the headphones without losing the position in the playlist that one is listening to, or that the Sleep Timer be changed to accept a number of minutes rather than just choosing between the 15 minute increments. (Either being a means to time something (excersize, hard-boiling an egg, sex, or anything) and be alerted when the time is up without having to lose one's place in the Playlist.)
I also requested that the Sleep Timer function use a fade-out rather than the abrupt shut-off of the music.
Again, thanks for the link, and thanks for confirming that you too can't find a way to do the timed periods in the way that I would think many others would want.

  • Ipod nano recall - time to respond from apple

I input all the information for the nano recall in Apple's website, but it is just sitting there.  I've heard others got their new nanos already, but we haven't even received a box to send the old one in yet.  It's been 16 days.  There doesn't seem to be a way to contact Apple to find out what the timeline is or if my case just got stuck in no man's land.
Anyone else waiting a long time for a response?

Submitted request on Nov 13th and have been waiting...
    waiting...
    waiting...
    waiting...
If they ran out of boxes, there must be a number of people who actually received their boxes.
Anyone who has got their box, I'd appreciate an update including where you're located.  TIA

  • IPod nano 7th generation icons

While trying to get to the playlists on my 7th generation iPod nano, at times I cannot access playlists by pressing on music icon on homepage.  After unsuccessfully going nowhere, the home icons start shaking.  What, exactly, is the significance of this shaking?

Shaking icons indicate that they can be rearranged. Once rearranged clicking on the home button locks them in place.

  • IPod nano (4th generation) doesn't retain time/clock properly

I have an iPod nano model MC062LL (Version 1.0.2 PC) and the time/clock is an hour behind. I have set it properly (Settings->Date & Time->Time) but whenever I reset the iPod (which I do occassionally), it reverts back an hour.  BTW, my Time Zone is properly set to *Boston*.  I jog with this iPod so I'd like to have the proper times that I run.  Any help would greatly be appreciated!

  • I have a 3rd generation ipod nano. I upgraded to lion. I tried to buy an audio book and download it to my nano like I have done at least 50 times before. Now the dialog box states that I need an ipod touch for the same function. MacBook Pro 2008 w/ m.trac

I have a 3rd generation ipod nano. I recently upgraded to Lion which is causing lots of issues. Aside from that, I went to the Itunes store to purchase books like I have done at least 100 times before with no problems. Now I can by the book and get it to my computer, however when I tried to download the book to my 3rd generation ipod the dialog box informed me that to download any new audiobook purchases I would need an ipod touch. My ipod nano 3rd generation serves my purposes just fine. Why should I be forced to buy something I do not want just to continue something I have always done seamlessly? I know this is more of a rant than a question but I am sure someone else out there has had this happen to them. Maybe you could share your thoughts on how to work around this issue if possible?

I forgot to add the last obvious and crucial step I had taken - plugging a different iPod into my system. It was also not recognized. That was the final proof I needed to determine if the problem was device or system. But now what?
I truly appreciate any help I can get!
    Thanks again...

Try putting it into "Disk Mode" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Then with it in this mode connect it to the PC and try to run the latest iPod updater to do a restore and update software if you have the option. the latest iPod updater is 2006-03-23 and can be downloaded here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

My ipod nano was synced by itunes and removed all of my music and game files, and replaced my music with my kids music that they have put into the current itunes library. Contact iTunes support and explain your situation to them.  They may let you redownload it at no cost.

  • VERY unstable iPod Nano (crashes every time in iTunes) plz help!

    Hi Folks,
As I wrote earlier in this thread, the iPod nano I bought for my GF (and the one before that) suffered from the 'updater bug'. At least I know now how to revive it, thanks to the great tips of a few users here, but it's a nuisance that the nano(s) tend to crash every time I want to add some music to it via iTunes. Not to say it's absurd for a mp3 player in this category to have so many bugs apparently.
I looked up the computer's system log, and it appears it registers a 'disk' warning, logged as 'event 51' every time the iPod is connected to my notebook. If it's not connected, it never gives such a warning. When you click on the warning it states: "fault discovered on appliance \Device\Harddisk1\D during a file exchange operation". [NB: my OS is in Dutch, so I translated it as best I could, it may not be the exact text it'd be in English.]
What usually happens is that the iPod 'freezes' at the moment I manually add songs to it. Subsequently I get the familiar "use iTunes to reset your iPod" message on the nano's screen, and I have to go through the whole formatting/reset procedure again, as described in the other thread I mentioned above. I had some succes adding music with the 'auto sinc' option, but nevertheless, it crashed again when I wanted to update the music on the nano, still using the 'auto sinc'.
So every which way I want to add music, the iPod crashes! Only after a full format/restore operation it sometimes accepts music, but as soon as I want to add/update the music on the iPod nano again it crashes...
As said, this behaviour is very annoying as well as time consuming, and I'm on the verge of returning the iPod to ask my money back. But as it's a gift, I'd rather see it working like it's supposed to work.
Many thanks in advance for your help, it'd be most welcome!
    Some facts and figures:
    - The nano is updated to V 1.2 using updater 2006-06-28 -

  • IPOD Nano is Freezing all the time.. -- Please Help

Hello everyone. I have an iPOD Nano 4GB and everything was working excellent until these past two days, it freezes repeatedly. I would restart my iPOD Nano and when it goes to the menu, the Light is still on and I cannot move my click wheel to navigate at all. It just freezes on "Music" category on the iPOD Nano. I would restart it over and over and over and if I am lucky, it will work but then it will freeze. I have tried it plugging it on various USB ports with a Windows PC and my Powerbook and yet nothing.
Please, if anyone has a solution to this, it'll be greatly appreciated.

My iPod nano just locked up and I nad no idea what to do. Holding down buttons wouldn’t turn it off. Toggling the hold switch didn’t do anything either. It was in a stuck state where hold was turned on and none of the buttons would respond. Here’s the fix…
    Toggle hold on.
    Toggle hold off.
Hold down the menu and middle button for a few seconds.
The iPod nano should then “reboot” and voila!
Update: Both times my iPod nano has frozen up it was when I had hold turned on and plugged it into the USB cable.
