2 GB of RAM in the eMac? Exactly what type please/

OK. So I'm just finding out now that my 1.25Ghz eMac is actually capable of running with 2 GBs of RAM, rather than the 1GB max that Apple publishes.
Assuming that this will actually work, it is welcome news for me.
1. Are there any problems that I should expect to see?
2. Exactly what type of RAM sticks should I be looking for?
[I know they're 184 PIN. It also looks like I should be asking for "PC2700", whatever that means.]
3. Are there any other labels that I need to make sure the RAM I buy has?
4. Is it possible to get a 1GB "184 PIN PC2700" RAM stick with that won't work in my eMac's RAM slots?
5. How unreliable is used RAM?
Any help appreciated.

Hi,
I too am in Toronto. I have been using Macs for more than 2 decades; and shopped around for the best deals for just about everything in the way of Mac parts.
Regardless of where you buy, PST and GST are added to whatever price is listed, thus the extra cost of buying elsewhere is the shipping.
For RAM, I have had excellent results buying from Ramdirect. So much so that I no longer even bother to compare prices. (For the record, I have no relationship of any kind with the company other than as a satisfied customer.) Even with the shipping cost added, I was not able to do better for price.

If you see  "Backups" category on the internal drive, it means that Time Machine is creating local snapshots. Read > http://pondini.org/TM/30.html
Local snapshots are deleted when the internal drive is getting full, so you don't have to worry about local snapshots

  • RAM for 1GHz eMac

I need to upgrade my RAM and don't know what type to purchase for my eMac. Any help as far as model or product numbers would be great.

For pretty much any personal computer model, you can check the RAM specs using the configuration tool at Crucial (which has an excellent reputation for backing the RAM they sell).

  • What type of encryption is using in Oracle Application (EBS)?

    Dear all,
I am using oracle application version 11.5.8 and the oracle database version is
9.2.0.4. When I am login the oracle application, what type of encryption is?
    How can I know?
    Best Regards,
    Amy

    As standard? None.
Are you talking about password encryption in 11.5.8 ? It's a reversible encryption algorithm.
Are you talking about the network layer? Only if you've setup to run https mode.

  • What type of collection can I use to store a word and a string as it's valu

I am writing a grammar checking application. What kind of collection can I use to store the word and the type of word as it's value.
    e.g.(book = noun) (clean = adjetive) (of = predicate) (took = verb)
or should I use a collection as they type and add the words in each different collection?
    you advice is greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    steve

class "Contradiction" contains two variables, the String and what Type was assumed
    Algorithm:
    Parse out next word
Find all possible meanings/types of word
Assume first meaning is true, continue (think [push])
If clause, call clauseParse all over again (think [push])
Return parsed structure when done, (think [pop])
If Contradiction rises to top of sentence, there is a grammer problem. Now switch into grammer correction mode.
If a word can be interpreted two different ways, don't worry about it as long as it's right either way.
To test for similar-sounding words, use something like SoundX

  • What type of storage is needed for iTunes U

We are getting up and running iTunes U on our University and we are running into the issue of what type of storage we need to provide for iTunes U, i.e. (web share, afp share, smb share. If you could let me know or point me in the direction i need to go it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
The [administraton guide|http://deimos.apple.com/rsrc/doc//iTunesUAdministrationGuide/Introduction /chapter1_section1.html] doesn't explicitly state what type of server is necessary, but given that iTunes U is based on RSS feeds, a Web server would be a good choice for hosting your content (much like hosting any podcast).
    Hope this helps,

  • What type of changes require server restart?

    Hi,
We are trying to minimize downtime for applications and re-design our deployment process. One of the questions is what type of changes require weblogic restart and which would require only re-deployment of application server.
Is there a document which would detail actions required by type of changes in config?
    Sohail

    Hi,
There are basically two types of changes we can make in WLS...
*1). Dynamic Changes:* It means the Changes which doesnt requires Server Restart. Like Updating/deploying/undeploying applications. Creating DataSources, Creating Users in SecurityRealms, Configuring WorkManagers.
*2). Non-Dynamic Changes:* These are the Changes which requires Server Restart ... sothat the changes can take affect. Like: Activating another SecurityRealm as Default realm, Changing cluster Multicast Address, Configuring Startup/Shutdown classes, Changinf ClassPath or Java_options from AdminConsole for ManagedServers using ServerStart Tab, Adding/Removing Managed Servers from Machine...etc.
There is not such link available which lists all the Non-Dynamic & Dynamic Changes. Even AdminConsole also displays sometimes Wrong Message ...sometimes for few Non-Dynamic Changes as well it says "No Restart Required" But actually we had to start it.

  • Do i need to install a v-ram in the ram bit of my emac ?

    Hi
    Im abit confused.....!
I bought this emac in nov 2002 - and i do alot of video conversion work - 5 yrs down the line.
do the slots in my RAM slot area only take RAM or do they also take what i think is called
v-ram (Is this also a 'pci card' ??) and if so should i install some ?
    yours confused
    d

The the two DIMM slots under the access hatch on the bottom of the eMac are for the computer's RAM. The graphics "card" (actually a chipset on the main logic board) has soldered video RAM and cannot be upgraded. A PCI card is different from either computer or video RAM; different types of cards (mainly video cards, but there are other kinds) can go into computers that have PCI slots, but the eMac has no PCI slots.

  • What is the latest version of Mac OS X supported on the eMac G4 PowerMac6,4

I have an old eMac with a 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 Processor and 512 MB of RAM. I am currently on Mac OS X 10.4.11 and would like to know what is the latest version that i can update to? This old computer is just to hold me over until i get a Mac Mini in a few weeks.
    Thanks,
    Eric
P.S: I am tying this on the eMac right now.

The max OS is Leopard 10.5. But, you'll have to buy the upgrade. You are at the latest/last version of Tiger 10.4.
Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store *but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753)*.

  • What is the proper way to add 16GB ram to the existing 8GB in my 27" Retina iMac?

I've searched the web for the best answer to this question: What's the best way to add 16GB ram to the existing 8GB in my late 2014 Retina iMac (ending up with a total of 24GB ram)?
I'm seeing conflicting and ultimately confusing advice. Most people are saying to just pop in the new 16GB (2X8GB) into the 2 open slots and you're done. Others are saying no, remove the 2 4GB sticks, replace those now empty slots with the 2 new 8GB sticks, and put the 4GB sticks in the remaining 2 slots, which viewed from the bottom would be 8,4,8,4.
A third option (to make things even more confusing) seems to be keeping the 2X4GB and 2X8GB sticks together, side by side, so that viewed from the bottom you'll see 8,8,4,4 or 4,4,8,8.
I have no idea which configuration is best: They all seem to "work" according to those advocating their method. I want to know what Apple recommends, if they indeed have a preferred method.

Crucial. 16GB 2X8 204P SODIMM PC3-12800 MAC to be specific.
The OEM RAM is in slots 2 + 4 from the top, at least in mine. BANK 0/DIMM0 and BANK 1/DIMM0.
A little background: I installed new RAM in the slots last week when my new iMac arrived, in the open slots, 1 + 3 from the top. I then started up for the first time and installed my account from Time Machine. So far, so good. About 2 hours into my first day usage I started getting random crashes. By day 2 I'd had maybe 15 crashes and a dozen kernel panics. I removed the RAM and re-seated it. Same problem. I created a new user account, thinking maybe I had some corrupt data. Ran fine for a couple of hours then BOOM same problem, again. Removed the new RAM and presto, no more crashes, going on 4 days now. I returned the RAM to the vender, requesting a replacement in the hopes that I just had a bad stick (even though I ran TechTool 7 and found no problems... which struck me as weird).
So now I'm a little bit concerned about using the best, most Apple-approved method for installing the replacement RAM when it arrives. I'm not exactly a newbie. I've read things in the past about it being important to install RAM in a specific order, but it's been a while since I've had a new Mac, and things change. I want to be careful, but it sounds like it doesn't matter a whole lot. My fingers are crossed, not that I'm superstitious.

  • Need Help in Knowing Exactly What is Installed & Upgrading RAM & HD

    Hello-
I am  not very tech savvy, so I am calling for some help here. I might be getting in over my head, but I think with some help here and from Apple articles, I should be able to correctly upgrade to the max RAM and the best quality and largets HD. I have a brand new cMBP. I wanted 16 GB (or need 16 Gb of RAM) but that configuration was not possible. I understand one needs to install RAM that is compatible with the existing RAM, which I do not know how to figue that out too.  I need to figure out how much RAM is currently installed, and either take the existing RAM out and install sticks of the best RAM I can get for this cMBP that equals 16 GB of RAM. I would like some recommendations on where to go to get the RAM, how to know what type I need (I know there are several numbers/letters that identify the RAM), and I think I found the link that shows me how to change the RAM. I do not have the proper screwdrivers so I will need to get those, but my main concern is to know what to do with the existing RAM. I know that I did order the least amount of RAM I could get since I knew I needed 16 GB so I was gong to upgrade. I did read the RAM has to be evenly divided but I am not sure exactly what that means since I do not know how many slots it has.  I stayed with the least expensive HD because I knew I was going to try and upgrade to the largest SSD (or Flash Drive-not sure of the difference). If it is difficult to swap out the existing HD 5200rpm for the best SSD, I have not been able to find that Apple article, but recommendations on a website to get these drives for the MBP I just received would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.  Remember I am not savvy in this type of stuff so I need as much detail explanation as one can give me.

As for the 'old' RAM - I have a drawer full of old sticks, carefully labeled. Because RAM is so cheap just now, you're not able to get much for it: maybe hand it down to a friend in need?
Yes, the 512GB is one of the largest consumer SSDs made. OWC has a 980GB, but it's only for 3Gbps speeds and we have 6Gbps speeds on our MacBook Pros. For some good information and a 'buyer's guide' to SSDs, see Sean's SSD Buyers Guide & Information Thread. One of the drives that he recommends is the Crucial m4 series.
I do use my Thunderbolt port - I've an Apple Thunderbolt Display and just recently (this month) added a LaCie 2Big Thunderbolt 4TB disk (it's actually 2 disks - it comes formatted as RAID 0 but I 'unraided' it and now have two 2TB disks). Lightening fast - I use one drive as a Time Machine backup and the other as my 'working' drive for any and all projects that I'm currently working on.
Because my Denon reciever has AirPlay, I don't have external speakers for my computer any longer. My first pair were some Harman Kardon Soundsticks and they were good, but I bought the Bose Companion (it was at III then - I believe that they're at 5 now) speakers in 2006 and found them to be unsurpassed. They work great with Apple products. The Bose are expensive, but worth it.
Try Amazon for both the Crucial RAM and SSD - they have a slight discount, anyway, from what you'd pay ordering directly from Crucial.
    Good luck,
    Clinton
