2 Graphic cards installed, which one I am using?

Hi, I have a macbook pro with 2 graphic cards, an Intel HD graphics 3000 and a AMD Radeon HD 6750, I want to know which one am I using by default, and how can I get the best performance for use in graphics software, like photoshop cs5. Thanks

Your system will automatically switch between the integrated GPU (HD 3000) or the AMD video card (more powerful) depending on the application you are using.  There is an excellent application (free) called gfxCardStatus.  This will put a little icon in your menubar showing you which card is in use.  It will also allow you to lock in either if you choose to do so:

  • Two graphics card on macbook pro which one do I use?

I have two graphics cards on my macbook pro. ADM random 6490m (256mb vram) and Intel HD graphics 3000 (512mb vram). My question is which one should I use? I don't do any hardcore gaming or photoshop. I guess that I am just looking for the best display and least buffering if that even has anything to do with the graphics card. I just want to get the most out of my macbook. I appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Your MBP more or less chooses which graphics card to use automatically.  In System Preferences>Energy Saver, check Automatic graphics switching.  When it's checked on, it will use the higher power and higher quality dedicated AMD 6490 when you're plugged into the wall, and uses the Intel 3000HD when on battery.
I have downloaded gfxCardStatus to give me more control over which graphics card to use.  There are times I might want the AMD while on battery, even though it runs hotter and uses more battery life.
Either card will do well with HD movies, though I notice a lot more artifacts with the Intel 3000 when the movie has a lot of action or explosions or sounds.  If you want to do hardcore gaming, you need the AMD of course.  Photoshop is more dependent on the central processor rather than the graphics card, so I'm not sure you'd have much issue using either one.

  • TS2083 How do you know if you have more than one graphics card installed?

How do you know if you have more than one graphics card installed? My MacBook Pro does not provide a connectivity to TV via HDMI.

You can go to <http://support.apple.com/specs/#macbookpro> find your Mac's technical specs.
Depending on what kind of video output port you have, you should be able to get an adapter to HDMI.  For example a Mini Display Port to HDMI (I have one of these).

  • Disabling the integrated graphics card or updating any software they use that will aid the computer in switching between the two graphics chips.

So I couldn't activate Assassin's Creed 3 on bootcamp which I shuold have been able todo. I posted it on Ubistoft Support and This is what I got!
    Hello ,
It looks like your DXDiag report is showing only an integrated graphics card. Being an Apple computer with an i7, it should have a dedicated video card as well. You may need to contact Apple support so they can help you either disable the integrated graphics card or update any software they use that will aid the computer in switching between the two graphics chips.
So I was wondering how I could disable the intergrated grahics card or update any software that will aid the ocmputer in switching between the two graphic chips.

The Early 2011 13-inch MacBook Pro has only got one graphic card, and this is the integrated card, Intel HD Graphics 3000.
Some games don't support this type of GPUs, and it looks like Assassin's Creed is one of them, so unfortunately, you can't run the game in this MacBook

  • HP p6310y graphics card failing, will one of these work?

For the last few days my monitor blacks out for a few minutes, so I thought the monitor was going bad, but last night while usiing a 3D program an error poppped up. Something about nvidia card has failed, but has recovered. The graphics card installed is what came with the PC when purchased. It's an Nvidia GeForce 9100. I've been looking at graphics cards all day and am just getting more and more confused. I do not do any gaming, but I do need a card good enough to run 3D rendering programs and programs like photoshop, and also need an affordable one. Are  either of these compatible with my PC and will they run these programs?

    Hi:
I think the 610 GT will work fine in your PC.
I would go with this one as the specs state it has a 128 bit memory interface.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814139078
That will be a better performing card over one with a 64 bit memory interface.
New Egg has the same 64 bit Galaxy card for a lot less ($20) than Best Buy.

  • In need of a new Graphics/Video card,..which one?

My computer stopped booting all the way a couple of days ago. Took it to Apple store where they told me I need a new Graphics card. As of now I have:
Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT
    Bus: PCIe
    PCIe Lane Width: x16
    VRAM (Total): 256 MB
    Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
    ROM Revision: 3011
Does anybody have a suggestion on which one to get?
When it comes to that stuff, I have no clue which one is good/better etc.
Any help would be appreciated. I would be willing to spend $250-$350 unless I get an amazing one for a bit higher.
I don't do a lot of graphics work on the computer, but, I do like my computer games.
I was looking at this on OWC:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ATI%20Technologies/100435928/
(ATI RADEON 3870 256-bit 512MB GDDR4 16x PCIe Video Card for the Mac Pro with two Dual-Link DVI Ports, supports two 30" displays! Supports HDMI output up to 1920x1080!)
    Thanks

Then, if I look on comments on the Apple website, some people say it does work on older models, some say it does not because this card requires PCI Express 2.0??
The card is PCI Express 2. Your Mac Pro has just standard PCI Express. However, that doesn't matter , since PCI Express 2 was designed to be compatible with standard PCI Express. Any PCI Express card (2.0 or not) can be used in any PCI Express slot (2.0 or not). Of course you only get 2.0 speed if the card and slot are both 2.0.
PCI slot 1 (the lower slot) in your Mac Pro is a 16x slot, and will provide plenty of speed for the card. It is unlikely that an older Mac Pro could send data any faster than that slot could handle. The new Mac Pros have faster memory, and might be able to use the extra speed of PCI Express 2.0.

  • Graphics Card Failure! can no longer use my Mac

Today while view images in iPhoto (latest version)
My screen suddenly flickered red and the the lower 3 quarters of the screen (apple cinema display 24) went all scrambled.
    I shut down.
I checked the display by attaching it to my mac mini and no problems, works perfectly.
I reattached the display to my Mac Pro again.
I booted in safe mode and the screen was barely discernible and totally psychedelic (reds and magenta's) but I could navigate around.
decided to reboot and zap the PRAM (x3).
let the machine continue after 3rd PRAM zap and the screen was totally unreadable.
rebooted in safe mode and screen was worse.
tried to reboot with the snow leopard dvd using "option" this screen came up fine.
chose the 10.6 install disc and the grey apple screen with the little time elapse wheel came up as the disc was being read, about 5 mins into the dvd read the screen froze.
decided to start machine in target disc mode "T key" and attached the Mac Pro to my mini via firewire. all of the mac pro's internal discs mounted, I check all discs with disk utility and they all passed
repaired blessed drive and it passed with no problems.
decided to reinstall snow leopard from mini onto mac pro blessed drive.
tried booting up mini from mac pro blessed dive and no problem starting up mini.
tried rebooting mac pro to see if this new reinstall would work and it locked up during startup.
tried to reboot with my original system install discs that came with my mac pro by using the "option" at start to choose startup disc and system locked up after about 5 mins.
also tried reboot mac pro in safe mode again and the screen is now black after several minutes.
I can't remember the exact model of nVidia car I have, I believe it's the 8800 GT (need to look at my receipt ) I bought in in January when this model came out.
anyone else have a video card die like this?
I plan to drag in my unit to a Genius Bar and see if they can test or swap out the card.
    what a hassle.

    See my thread here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2335070&tstart=0
Apparently, the graphics card is dead.
I also booted into Win XP. While the XP interface did not crash (I have the Win 2000 skin active, which obviously doesn't have any 3D stuff), as soon as I launched a game (GTA IV), the system crashed.
I'll get a Radeon HD 4870 now. I just hope, nothing else is broken...
    Good luck!

  • Graphics card upgrade - which?

    Hey everybody!
I'm a proud owner of a PowerMac G4 Sawtooth, which I'm about to upgrade. So, I'm currently looking for a decent graphics card (the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Sapphire (128MB VRAM) caught my eye).
Now, I found out, that my PowerMac only sports a speedy AGP 2x port, and the ATI card in question only is compatible to AGP 4x or 8x ports. What should I do? Buy it anyway and hope it runs? Probably not. So, could anybody please make a suggestion, which graphics card would be a more appropriate one for me?
    Thanks in advance.
    Greetings, Christian
    PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The thing you must know is that any standard PC-Videocard will NOT work out of the box in your mac, the ROM of the video card will have to be flashed with a mac rom in order for it to work (its a big hassle, btw check out http://strangedogs.proboards40.com - its a mac video card flashing site) aside from this, you can always check out flebay for mac video cards, and pc-flashed-to-mac ones that will work in your Sawtooth. As for the AGP 2x port, it should be OK to use any card in it because 4x/8x cards are usually backwards compatible to 2x, but you may want to check it out. Sapphire's site should have information about that.

  • New Graphics card install just beeps, stuck at boot screen

I purchased a NVidia GEFORCE GT730 that I installed in the spare graphics card slot. But when I boot up it just beeps at me. The monitor displays the HP screen but will not respond to keyboard input. I've been into the BIOS and Legacy is enabled but there is no option to disable "Secure Boot". Do I need to get my money back is this graphics card not compatible? I did notice this card recommends a 300w power supply and this PC has a 250w but I didn't think a 50w difference would'nt allow the card to be recognized by the PC.
    Thank you.

Your power supply is pretty weak for that card.
Here's one that would do the trick and it's not expensive. Just something for you to consider.

  • Urgent Help Needed: ATI Graphics Card install

Hello All.... I am in need of some urgent help..
I am trying to install a new graphics card - the ATI Radeon 9600 SE. I currently have a Voodoo3 card. I followed all of the instructions step by step, but when I plug the monitor to the Radeon card and boot up, I do not get any display. I have tried everything I can think of, and yet - I am sure the card is secured in place and the monitor is plug into the card.
Can anyone help me on this one.. ATI's support is, well - lacking..
Here is some info on my pc:
    MCI motherboard
    AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ 1.7 GHz
    768 MB
    AMIINT - 10 Version 1.00, 07/10/02
Could the problem be with switching from a regular PCI card to an AGP card???

  • H9-1130 Won't boot after new graphics card install.

    Alright, here we go.
I recently bought an EVGA 750 superclocked for my PC. The first time I installed it, I got a black screen. Popped in the old GPU and checked the BIOS. Ended up updating it.
Now, here's the interesting part: I install the EVGA back into my computer, and it ends up getting stuck at the HP boot logo. I went to another thread on this site regarding pretty much the same question, and the people there recommended checking the PSU and the graphics card. Well, I brought my GPU to a friend to plug into his computer, and it booted up just fine. I did check my PSU aswell, and all seems to be fine there. So, yeah, any suggestions on how I can get this card to work on my mobo?
     SPECS:
    AMD FX-8120
    (old) GPU: AMD 7670
(new) GPU: EVGA 750 1gb Superclocked
    PSU: HP 650w
    mobo: Gigabyte 2AC8

    Hi,
I have no suggestions on how to get the EVGA GTX 750 to work in a HP PC that has a legacy version 7 bios (non-UEFI).
I do have one suggestion: Contact EVGA and ask for a remendy other than replacing the motherboard or buying a new PC. Don't expect HP to provide a version 8 UEFI BIOS update for your PC.  HP didn't start producing UEFI BIOS consumer desktop PCs until the middle of October 2012.
You might try Sapphire as they offer both NVIDIA and AMD graphics that are designated UEFI and those that are not designated UEFI.  You need a card that is non-UEFI designated.
