2 hdmi displays?

I'm getting ready to purchase a 2012 Mac mini and want to use 2 displays. I did see some other threads on the topic, but I wanted to know if its possible to use a 1:2 Hdmi splitter to have one display for a computer monitor and one into my my entertainment system for the living room television.
Perhaps it's easier just to use the thunderbolt port ( the type of plug escapes me at the moment, i know i wont be using a thunderbolt cable) for the monitor. I just don't want to lose audio or need to change settings every time i switch monitors. ( I don't need to use the displays simultaneously, although that'd be awesome, I just want to be able to turn either screen on and simply have it work with sound.
Any suggestions?

You can connect one monitor to the Mac Mini's HDMI port and a second to the Mac Mini's Thunderbolt port using a > Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter.

  • HDMI display no longer detected

Soon after updating to OS X Mavericks my Dell HDMI display stopped working (the screen went into power saving mode) and isn't detected by my Late 2012 Mac Mini. Have tried reboots and disconnecting the power and HDMI cables to no effect.  I can remote desktop into the Mac MIni from a PC so can still access it to try different options.
    Any suggestions?

Yeah, the issue still continues for me.  I thought that I had it resolved by doing a NVRAM reset, but the dreaded issue came back.  I initially noticed the issue would occur much faster if I was using VirtualBox, but after updating VirtualBox the issue isn't as prevalent.  I'm also able to make the issue occur much quicker if I'm running a Flash based game in the browser.  When the issue has occurs and I get back into the machine remotely and open the console I can see that the Window Server has gone sideways.  Related output follows:

  • Is garage band included on 10.6 OS and hdmi display issues?

Imac, 17 inch display, 2.0 GHz, 1GB ram two issues.  Can I connect an hdmi second display (hidef tv) through the thunderbolt port and does garage band come with OS 10.6.  Can't find garage band anyplace and the second display when plugged in to an aftermarket thunderbolt to hdmi adapter sees the hdmi display but won't mirror.  I have a clean install of 10.6 and can't get past these two issues. Any help please.

Here's the issue.  I can only get 3 meg d/l speed and that drops to as low as .5 meg at times.  I can link my MacBook Pro to an hdmi hi def 1080 thru a Devi connector and all works fine.  I run Netflix and the MacBook buffers the content so if the speed lags the show doesn't stop.  I came across this iMac and was hoping to do the same thing.  I bought an Apple TV 2 nd gen and it just stops and stalls due to no buffering.  So that's not working.  If I can connect the iMac to the larger Vizio with hdmi inputs, 1080 hi def I would allow the iMac to run my Netflix and not ruin here MacBook by letting it run continuously.  I used the MacBook on a smaller 14" and the 26" Vizio with no problems.  The iMac won't see either one though in sys prefs it does show the display but won't mirror.  If you, for some reason, just cannot answer the question, just let me know, I appreciate all your help.  I am at a loss but feel certain there is a way to do this.

  • Two hdmi displays to the Mac Pro  cylinder

How do i hook up two hdmi displays to the Mac Pro  cylinder?

There are cheaper adapters and cables
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/HA824ZM/A/belkin-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-adap ter>
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/HA825ZM/A/belkin-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-cabl e-2-m65-ft>
but they are passive not active.
The new Mac Pro can use a maximum of two passive adapters (the built-in HDMI port counts as one), so you could use one passive adapter, but any more would have to be active.
Some useers have reported problems with cheap Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cables.

  • Daisy-chaining a HDMI display from the Apple Thunderbolt display

    Is this possible?
Current information indicates that there is a lack of connectivity from the Thunderbolt display to the legacy MDP Cinema Display panels (although there is a work around). Is this the same for HDMI displays (considering most adapters are MDP to HDMI)? I'm wanting to connect a Samsung SyncMaster as a 2nd external display... Will be running off an early-2011 15 inch MBP (Lion).
    Any thoughts / anecdotes welcome!

Yes, you'll need an intermediate Thunderbolt device to connect the 2nd non-Thunderbolt display, even with HDMI to Mini DisplayPort.

  • Macbook Air hdmi display not detected

Hi, my 2011 Macbook is not detecting my hdmi display - the screen flashes blue briefly but no display is detected in system preferences or anywhere else.
    Any ideas?
+I am using a mini display port to hdmi adapter with the thunderbolt output and I've tried rebooting with display plugged in and my osx is 10.7.5 Lion.
    Any help appreciated

Actually I fixed it in the end by getting a new cable, it turned out that for whatever reason my cable was not up to the job.\
I found that a cheap £5 one piece thunderbolt male to hdmi male cable off ebay did the job well and it was my two piece - thunderbolt male to hdmi female attached to a standard HDMI to HDMI cable which caused the problem.
Seems like HDMI can be quite fussy and either it works or it does nothing, no in between.
So my fancy mac now works great with my cheapo alba hdmi tv i paid £25 for and carries both sound and video!
(I don't think I'll go back to windows if I can help it, not after using a mac.  Once you've had a mac you realise what a pain in the a*s windows is .. I hardly ever feel like punching my mac )

  • Is there any way to lock the HDMI display on one desktop?

    Hello!
My Macbook Pro HDMI-connection to my TV works great -- the only thing I wasn't able to figure out is if it was possible to lock the HDMI display on one desktop. I use five different desktops (spaces) and I'm using extended desktop(s) for my HDMI, but every time I switch to another desktop, whatever I'm watching on my TV switches to the extended desktop for whatever space I just switched to, meaning that my TV switches to blank screens. Is there any way that, even if I continue switching through desktops on my computer, I can keep my HDMI locked on the extended space for "Desktop 1," for example?
    Hope that makes sense. Thanks!
    -Ryan

If you disable the "Change with buttons" setting, the buttons will still control the general volume (music, games, etc) but will NOT change the ringer or alarm sound settings (keyboard clicks also fall into this category but is not mentioned). This lets you use the volume up/down buttons to change the general volume level without changing the ringer and alarm volume levels...it keeps you from inadvertently turning down the ringer or alarm volume and missing calls and alarms.
That being said, there's no way to totally disable the volume up/down buttons from doing something volume related.

  • MDP to HDMI display problem with Sony Bravia

    Hi,
I've tried without success to connect my 2010 MBP to my Sony Bravia KDL-40W2000 using a Griffin Video Display Converter and an HDMI cable.
The TV isn't displaying a picture and no audio is transmitted either.
When the Griffin adapter is connected, I see an additional Display preference window (titled 'SONY TV'), but whichever options I choose in that window, I can't get anything to come up on the TV. I've tried all the resolutions possible and have experimented with turning mirroring on and off. Every combination ends up with the same result: the display is fine on the MBP but nothing appears on the TV.
I've looked through the TV's menus but there seem to be only a few relevant settings to tweak, and tweaking them hasn't helped. Sony's support team told me that their TVs aren't designed to accept HDMI input from computers(!), which just doesn't seem right given that others have had no problems in connecting up their kit to Sony TVs.
I know the HDMI cable is fine as it works when connected to the TV via another device.
I'd guess that the Griffin adapter is faulty, although if this were the case I wouldn't have expected the extra Display preference window to have appeared.
Is anyone able to diagnose the problem before I try to get the Griffin adapter replaced?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John,
Did you fix your problem? I have an uncannily similar problem. I bought my MBP in December '09, and recently bought a Neet mini HDMI adaptor (http://www.amazon.co.uk/DisplayPort-AUDIO-v1-3b-adapter-cable/dp/B002SKJKE2/ref= sr126?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1282087795&sr=8-26) and HDMI cable. But I can get nothing at all through to the Sony TV through it. My Sony TV is KDL-40s3000. I went into the Preferences - Display and it didnt detect the Sony there, and in the Sony menu, under Settings - Set-Up - HDMI Set-Up, it never detects any device either. Under the channel on the Sony I chose for this, it does say "out of range". Perhaps that has something to do with it. Any solutions you found, please let me know!

  • Help with DisplayPort to HDMI display settings

I am using a 50" Sony LCD TV with Mac Mini via DisportPort to HDMI adaptor. I am getting parts of the Dock and none of the top menu bar, why? The only setting that looks right is setting the display output to 1080x720 (overscan on). Any other settings will not fit the screen and crops both top & sides. Here are the TV specs. What am I doing wrong?
    Sony's Description
Compared to enhanced definition televisions and other technologies, the Grand WEGA TVs deliver natural color reproduction and exceptional brightness levels due to 3LCD technology with *1280 x 720 native 720p resolution*.

The only time I can choose a PC setting is if I plug it in the VGA port. The problem with that is that it will not fill the screen no matter what combination of TV, and Mac OS X settings & that's why I am using a DVI to HDMI cable. Video looks pretty good, but text looks horrible.
What can I do to improve the look of text so when I browse safari I can actuallly read it. Right now all text on any white background looks like there is a RGB blur filter. Text on grey (like on system preferences), look like there is a blue & emboss filter. Is it possible to get my mac mini look incredible the way it would look if I hooked it up to a regular apple monitor using HDMI or is that just impossible? Video looks pretty good as I said so it's not bad for watching podcasts or Hulu, but it looks horrible when I want to Surf, and I don't know if my expectation to replicate what I see on an apple monitor is doable via HDMI with my 2006 Sony Bravia.

  • Is there a way to connect 1 external thunderbolt display and 1 external HDMI display to a mid 2012 MBP (non-retina display)?

I've had a 24" Asus HDMI montitor for a while, and just got a 27" Apple thunderbolt display. I was wondering if there was a way to connect both of these to my mid-2012 Macbook Pro (non-retina). I know you can daisy-chain 2 thunderbolt displays, so I tried plugging my Asus into the thunderbolt display (using an HDMI to mini-display port adapter) and it didn't work. Suggestions??

Mini DisplayPort displays and adapters don't work directly with a Thunderbolt display, but will if you connect a Thunderbolt disk drive (with two Thunderbolt ports) between the Thunderbolt display and the Mini DisplayPort device.

  • Why can't I get an external HDMI display after upgrading to Maverick?

I've been hunting all over for an answer to this problem.  I upgraded to Maverick in the fall and recently discovered that I can no longer get a picture on an external TV via Thuderbolt + HDMI.  I've used new connectors and cords.  Apparently others are having similar issues after upgrading.
I've tried the SMC reset option, but it has not rectified anything.  I've unchecked the "display as separate spaces" option.  Nothing seems to work and I've searched all over the support community for the answer, which can be extremely daunting.
    Allen

You said you have a workstation with 4 drives, not a notebook.
And you have not reformatted in years.
Just clone Mac OS X Lion (and Lion Recovery) to anotehr hard drive with Carbon Copy Cloner.
    Cloning as a Backup Strategy
Or backup and erase the DRIVE, like WDxxxxx and not your "Macintosh HD" volume and restore.
Reformatting is a good idea when moving to a new OS and lot of changes to partition structure go on each time, sometimes even mid-stream of a version.

  • No event in Udev upon connecting a DVI-HDMI display

    Hi all!
Im pretty new to Archlinux and sarted "linuxing" generally not so long ago.
Arch is my latest stop and love-for-first-sight, learned a lot from its wiki and forum.
I tried to cook (honestly more like copy) a script today to let KDE (xrandr) automatically configure my TV, which is connected with a DVI-HDMI cabel through a HDMI switch.
As per instructions i tried to check out its proper name with
    udevadm monitor
but there r absolutely no events in it.
Im guessing thats why my script isnt invoked upon connecting/disconnecting.
Also, even if i connect/disconnect TV, KDE generally does not get it untill i let Display Settings run or
    xrandr
    from terminal.
That means if i disconnect, then reconnect, my settings r still the same. If i run any of them in the while, or boot up Linux so that my TV is turned off, i loose my settings.
    Is that normal?
What can i do that i can get udev events?
Thanks a lot for your help guys in advance!
    EDIT:
    Two more things
Disconnecting my primary monitor shos nothing as well at udevadm monitor.
Interestingly DVI-0 is my TV with DVI-HDMI connection
HDMI-0 is my primary monitor with DVI-DVI connection.
    Kinda weird.....

  • HDMI display: no signal

I am trying HDMI for the first time. I have a DVI splitter connected to the Mini and a VGA cable going to one display, which works fine. Today, I got a DVI to HDMI cable and connected it to my projector. I turned off the LCD display and turned on the projector. It said "no signal." Do I need to restart the Mac? Is there a reason that VGA works and HDMI not? The projector also has a VGA connector and that also works fine with the Mini.

I am happy to say to the problem is solved. The projector was set on "auto" for computer input. So, it should have detected that the VGA cable was no longer connected, but the HDMI cable was. It failed to do that. By forcing it to look at the HDMI input, it worked. The Mini correctly identified the projector and set the resolution correctly. Now, I just have to try the splitter and see if that will work.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Hdmi display setting on tv with a broken macbook screen.

Okay guys, so the screen broke on my macbook pro the other day, it went completely black. I am a broke college student and have to save up to pay for it to be fixed, so in the meantime, I bought an hdmi adapter to connect my computer to my tv so I can still do my homework and use my computer. The problem is like many others, I can only see my background on the tv and nothing else. I've perused different discussions and understand that I need to select the appropriate display settings to make everything appear on the tv, but I can't do that because I can't see anything on my computer screen. What do I do??? I have two online classes that have special downloaded programs that I won't be allowed to download on a public computer in order to do my class work. Eerk... Very frustrated. I have a Mac OS X but not sure which specific operating system I am running, I bought the computer new in 2008.

    Hi there Rcwaldrup,
If you have an external mouse and keyboard, you may have better results by trying closed clamshell mode. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • Macbook Pro Thunderbolt and HDMI displays switch on wake up

    Hi there,
Currently using a late 2013 15" Macbook Pro., latest version of Mavericks. I have one display hooked up through Thunderbolt->DVI, with a second set up through HDMI->DVI.
There seems to be an issue where on waking the monitors up from sleep mode (about 10 minutes inactivity time) the displays will turn on, immediately go black (inlcuding the Macbook Pro screen), and then switch such that all windows on one are now on the other.
I can't really repliate this, as it seems to just happen randomly. All I can say in my detective work, is that the HDMI->DVI hooked-up monitor tends to take a little more time to turn on after sleep, whereas the Thunderbolt->DVI monitor comes up immediately.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I've noticed that the HDMI connection seems to lag the Thunderbolt on wake as well. I haven't had the switching issue, though. I use my Thunderbolt display as the primary (menu bar in the preferences) - maybe try doing that if you're using your HDMI out as the primary.
You can always try resetting the SMC and PRAM as well.

  • TS4531 Bootcamp: Hdmi display not recognized windows 7

i have a late 2012 macbook pro retina with bootcamp windows 7 installed, when i try to connect a display on the hdmi port, nothings happen
its like theres drivers missing for the hdmi port. i tried all possible things, went to screen resolution options on control panel and connect external display options.

make sure you install the apple hardware drivers the correct video card driver is required to use external displays
one can make a driver stick in bootcamp on osx or one can download the zip file with drivers from apple
