2 headphone jacks as separate devices?

Hello I have an HP HDX 16 which has 2x headphone jacks and 1x microphone jacks on the front. I'm wondering if it's in anyway possible to have each of the headphone jacks as a separate device.
Reason being I have computer speakers plugged into 1 headphone jack, but want to plug a headset into the second. I used to have a USB headset where I could easily do this since the USB headset was its own device...but that headset broke and my spare one is copper rather than USB.
For example I want to have one jack (my speakers) selected in my audio player, but everything else coming out of the second jack (headset). Or for example I want the speakers to be the default device, but in say a program like Ventrillo or Skype, I want to select my headset as the device for that.
I know its possible to do with the built in laptop speakers and something else plugged in the headphone jack, but since there are 2 headphone jacks I'm wondering if its possible to have each as their own device.
I'm also using Win7 Pro.
Cheers.

Hey Chriss218 & welcome to discussions...
Hey, Really need some help here, I've noticed in snow leopard that if you leave a headphone jack in
the headphone port and don't touch the mac for 5 or 10 minutes iTunes will open up and start
playing a video from your video library
this is starting to get pretty annoying as I work in an environment were I sometimes need my
macbook to be connected to a sound desk to play audio from DVD's or random music,
on an average night we might have 2 or 3 laptops along with other ipods or sound mixers connected
to the sound system and it took me ages to work out that the inference that we were experiencing
was videos in my library playing along with whatever else could be playing.
Also any time I remove the jack from the port iTunes will open up, and if Im in the middle of doing
something it gets in the way, especially if I'm doing presentations, does anyone else experience
iTunes acting up like this when they use headphones with their mac? and how would I fix this?
Go to your Applications/Utilities folder and run an application named 'Audio MIDI Setup' - see if the configuration there matches your needs/expectations etc.

  • Headphone Jack Not Recognizing Devices

Just stepped up from an old G4 iMac 17" to an slightly newer intel iMac 17" and I'm missing my old
clear plastic "ball" speakers. There is a different type of jack on these than the 1/8" input on my new (older) iMac so I can't use them. The built in speakers just don't do it for me on this current machine.
So to get to my point, I tried plugging a pair of powered speakers into the headphone jack and they were not recognized in the sound control panel. Tried with headphones and same thing. Only "internal speakers" appears in the control panel. I asked someone at an Apple store about this and he told me to look for a red light inside the headphone jack. If I saw red then this most likely would mean the jack is fried. I checked and did NOT see any red light.
    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks in advance !

    Hi moJo
Sounds like a hardware problem with the Output jack, the sound card or that section of the logic board.
If you are stuck with that iMac for whatever reason, then your best bet might be to pick up a Griffin USB Audio Interface. > http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic/

  • Nomad Zen 20g - Headphone jack isn't work

Does anyone know where and/or how I could get the headphone jack on my Zen fixed? I love the player but need to keep jiggling the headphone jack to hear the music. Thanks!

Unfortunately this is a design flaw on many of the older model ZEN jukebox players. The contacts on the circuit board where the headphone jack connects come loose and cause the headphone jack to separate from the board. The only way to fix it is with a careful re-solder job, that is, if you don't want to send it back to Creative for an expensive repair job.
Here's a really good step-by-step article complete with pictures showing how to reaffix the headphone port to the board:

  • Headphone jack not working properly for Zen Mi

I wrote to tech support and I my only response from tech supports was to just do a recovery of the Zen Micro. The thing is, this problem isn't a software issue but an actual physical issue. Could it have been damaged because I constantly swap my headphones when I'm out walking or the FM receiver while I'm in my car. This is like the first time I've ever had a problem with the headphone jack for any device, whether it be a cassette walkman, CD player, Game Boy. The situation is like this, if I plug something in to the jack, sometimes the sound output is fine, but just a slight touch or jiggle and the sound gets distorted. This is rather annoying if the player is in my pocket and the sound will constant distort because its in my pocket. Is there a way to fix this? It seems so minute but if I can't listen to my songs properly what good is the player?

I know your new but I thought I would remind you to do a serach about the topic you did. Like my oleder post (still on this page) will tell you some fixes. Try http://forums.creative.com/creativel...ssage.id=34355 and that should work for you if you just put the headphones in the spot it works and hot glue around the hole it should work or you can use a gel super glue which seems to work just as well as the hot glue BUT do not use liquid superglue that could really mess up your device with a liquid.~Derek

  • How to separate the sound on my headphone jacks?

hi. I have an hp pavillion dv6-6c50se Entertainment Notebook, and I'm using "Traktor 2" mixing software.  in order to hear separate sounds from my headphones and the external speaker, I need the sound driver to recognize them as separate devices(beats audio which is two-channel and has two headphone jacks) .  In fact , I can't separate them to have the monitoring sound in my headphones and the master, in speakers.  The device can only separate the sound between internal speaker and headphones(or speakers) which are connected to it.  So, how should I do it? (maybe muting the built-in speaker and transfer it's sound to the external speaker in some way? )
    thanks

  • I have a new sound bar that I plug my phone into through the headphone jack. I also have a bluetooth speaker that I want to play through as well. Is there anyway I can play to both devices at once?

I have a speaker that I am connecting through my headphone jack but I have a bluetooth speaker in another room that I want to play through as well. Is there anyway I can play to both speakers at once? I saw another post on line that suggested going to the Audio MIDI setup and adding additional output devices. The problem is, I see that on my computer but nothing for my iphone. Can this work? I have also seen things for airplay and of course this is all making my mind fuzzy. Help!

Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac.  You should be able to set a password for it. Save it.  Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer,  I suppose,  back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity.  As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro
you should be able to sync your phone on your new MacBook Pro. Don't know if you can move the older backups yet-maybe try someone else, anyways,
This handy article from Apple explains how
How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support''
don't forget to de-authorize your iMac if you don't want to play purchased stuff there
and re-authorize your new macBook Pro
time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine  and go for it.  You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups  of your stuff.

    update to latest OSX 10.9.3
reset SMC ,   you likely put your Air into sleep mode with phones attached.
update the OSX to fix the issue.

  • Trying to separate headphone jacks to seperate outputs

Hello i got a dv7 laptop with beats audio, i bought it to dj with cause of the 2 headphone jacks and superior sound card.. anyways i use ultra mixer 3, i plug my pa system into one jack and my head phones to sample and cue tracks.. the problem im having is i can seperate the outputs, but instead of going to headphones it goes to the internal speakers instead.. how do i fix this, Oh its not my dj program either...

The WLC SFP port will negotiate to only 1Gb and nothing less.  You'll need a GLC-TX module to enable to connect an ethernet cable from the Linksys to WLC.

None of my headphone jacks can fit into the iphone without it being loose and falling out. Is there anywhere or way I can get this resovled ?

Sure, get the headphone jack replaced. Or do an Out-of-Warranty replacement at your nearest Apple Store for $199 USD.

  • I'm having some Audio Issues involving my headphone jack (air and pro)?

Ok, so, this is pretty weird.
I have had two macbooks thus far (a 2011 macbook pro and a mid 2013 macbook air)
I replaced my pro in 2013 due to a separate issue.
Anyway, I have been consistently having an issue where any type of headphones I put into my computer eventually begin to lose sound in the left earphone - but still work fine on other devices.
I.e, I'll get a new set of headphones, use them for a week, and a week later, no sound will come from the left port - but only when using my air. It is most definitely not the headphones.
It's not the output balance - when I set the balance all the way to the left, no sound comes out, and the problem continually reoccurs with every new set of headphones I get - on TWO different computers.
The same issue happened on my pro, and happens in my air.
Am I like, inserting the headphone jack in "too roughly" or something? What's going on?

some headphone jacks arent the exact right length and the contacts miss
    1. diff headphones and same
    2. diff. audio , from Itunes, online etc, and still same
    3. youve checked balances.
    4. RESET NVRAM
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Does The Headphone Jack on the mac book air also work with microphone

(MacBook Air) Does The headphone Jack work as a microphone jack like the MacBook Pro does

The current MacBook Air uses a TRRS 3.5 mm mini jack, just like the iPhone. As long as the intended device (headphone/microphone) is compatible with this jack standard, you are fine.
    TRRS (tip, ring, ring, sleeve)
You can also buy adapters that will "split" the connections into separate Mic and speaker channels, for use with recording equipment using other jacks. Say, for instance you have a microphone that uses a 1/4" jack.

  • 2 New Blackberries' 9310 and Headphone jacks don't work...

The headphone jacks only work when the headphones are half way in the jack, if fully in the jack they don't work, my husband is extremely disappointed that he has to listen to his music with the headphones falling out of the jack.

    Hello,
Often, this is caused by using non-OEM headsets, specifically those that lack the microphone component. If you check the plug on both the OEM and non-OEM, you may find a different number of black stripes...these stripes separate out the different functions on that post. If the non-OEM post does not match the OEM post, then it will not align correctly inside of the outlet on the device, requiring you to pull in/out to find the proper alignment to make them work. In your case, what I'd therefore deduce is that the post difference with the headset in use is so great that the post just cannot fit adequately into the jack. But this is not a problem with the jack nor the BB...rather it is with the headset in use not being compatible.
    Good luck!

  • ITunes no longer keeps speakers running on headphone jack

iTunes no longer keeps my external speakers running when connected by audio cable to the headphones jack. After 1:45 min:sec, my Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 speakers power down when connected to my computer playing iTunes.
The speakers do not power down for audio generated from other sources on my computer. When I play a video or audio file through Safari or another browser, the speakers work fine. When I listen to an audio file by selecting it in the Finder using Apple-Y ("quick-view"), the speakers run continuously until the end of the track without powering down. When I use the speakers configured the same way with other software (such as Skype), they work fine.
The speakers do not power down for audio generated from other DEVICES. When I plug the speaker cable into the headphone jack of either my iPhone 3Gs or my partner's mp3 player and play audio, the speakers work continuously.
I've looked at trouble-shooting for iTunes and found nothing on the Apple site or the web or in the iTunes preferences to keeping wire external speakers live during iTunes playback. I've tried having the speakers connected to a power source or running on batteries but the problem is the same. I've reset the speaker device with no change. I've reinstalled iTunes, no change. The Apple Store genius bar cleared all caches and restarted, no change. They reinstalled the computer system, but found no change.

    Hi Dexterdawg
Can you direct me to the thread as I can not sort out the same problem on my iMac

  • IPhone 4 headphone jack not working right.

So the headphone jack in my iPhone 4 i don't think is working properly. The right headphone does not put as much sound out as the left. I'm not sure why it was working perfectly just yesterday. I haven't dropped it or got water in it or anything. I tried plugging it in and unplugging it a few times, i reset my phone, turned it off then on and nothing seems to be working. Its not on silent and the volume thing is centered. Idk what could e happening. Help!!!

I would test the headset in another device such as a computer
and test another 3.5mm minijack headset in the phone to tell if it's the phone or headset
