2 iMacs upgraded to Mavericks, neither one is completing Time Machine backups. Never had this problem in previous OS versions. Reformated disc. Reinstalled as TM destination. Backup begins and then stops early in process.
I have two iMacs that I've upgraded to Mavericks 10.9.1.
Both started out OK but no longer allow Time Machine to complete backups.
The one I'm on now, older 24", has a fresh 500GB external HD for TM, reformated correctly.
Says backup size 147GB.
Get about 120 plus Mb into backup and stops.
No error messages, just stops and stays at the place where it stops.
Says calculating time remaining.
Left it on all day while away from my desk and returned home 10 hours later and still frozen at that state.
Newer iMac 27" fully loaded, 2TB HD as TM disc, same problem.
Backed up OK for the first few days, now frozen, with over 3/4 of the HD still available.
Reformat, reselect the TM disc, still will not complete a full backup.
Should I reinstall Mountain Lion until they get Mavericks working properly?
Are others experiencing the same problem?

Yes Eric. That is where the info came from. Since 9.2TB is impossible it must be due to how Time Machine handles the files in backups.backupdb. I have since done new Time Machine backups to the reformatted drive and I was hoping to copy at least few of the old backup files to the drive in the same file with the new ones but when I do that I get an error message that says backup files cannot be modified. It's very frustrating because I saved the old backups.backupdb to the desktop but it doesn't seem like I can do anything with it.

Is this a design flaw? Since the 1st Generation has a hard drive (140GB). If both are on, only the 1st Gen get recognized. I would think you could use both at the same time..... Help!

Frustratingly, since I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10, I too am having the worst problems with WiFi dropping out. I've never had this problem before on my iMac 27-inch mid 2011 model. Turning WiFi off and then back on again sometimes works. Help please. I've already tried a lot of your suggested fixes, but without success. Why hasn't Apple Fixed this?
Please test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
Step 2
Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. If you find that Wi-Fi works better with Bluetooth disabled, you should use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. Your router may not support it; in that case, you need a new router.
Step 4
Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences and unlock the settings, if necessary. Select the Power Adapter tab, if there is one. Uncheck the box marked
Wake for Wi-Fi network access
if it's checked.
Step 5
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
Step 6
In the Wi-Fi settings, select
Advanced... ▹ TCP/IP ▹ Configure IPv6: Link-local
Click OK and then Apply.
Step 7
Reset the System Management Controller.
Step 8
Reset the PRAM.
Step 9
Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
Step 10
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center. -
I am trying to use imovie and i have never had this problem before. All of my videos are completly grey and when you try and play them all i get is a black screen but i still hear audio. Can you please help and tell me what i need to do. Thank you
Make sure all of the videos used in the project that is having that problem are from the same event. If they are from multiple events, move them all into one event.

iTunes fails to load. Message is "Service Apple Mobile Device failed to start. Verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services." Never had this problem before trying to install this upgrade. How do I fix this?
Dave, same problem here. And I did go in as admin to Administrative Tools, Services, Apple Mobile Devices and tried restarting the service. It seems there is a bug with the newest update, period. All of the normal "easy" steps don't work. Before I remove all of Apple's programs, including Bonjour....I'm running a full system scan.
But the answer will be to remove all of the Apple stuff, then reboot, then use whatever utility you have to remove all temp files...then go download and install it again. This has worked for several people (I read the thread before posting). Win 7 64bit. It just seems that Apple did not thoroughly test this new version. Period.
If Apple reads this...I have many computers...and whenever Apple wants to update something...it just about stops everything else that is going on. Total memory hog, even with 16G RAM and dual quad core processors. It has to learn to play nice with others.
After the scan and I'm sure an hour or two of work...I'll re-post.
Of course if you do image back-ups, as I do, you can simply restore your drive to its previous state and run the previous version of iTunes, declining the update, until Apple gets it right. Depending on the size of your drive, this could take hours. It is a matter of choice, of course. -

Try going into your settings and 'reset all settings'
You will need to retweak your device but it's been said to help with sound issues. -
After seeing the production of Matilda in London I purchased the whole sound track and it did not completely load. I've never had this problem before so I just forgot about it. Today I am downloading an album only to find out it's missing the voacals. Do I have to start just settling for these kinds things. I'm feeling taken.

Yes you placed a hold but then when I went to complete an in app purchase it says I can't. I have no restrictions on this **** thing and never had this problem.. Why won't your iTunes communicate with my games so I can purchase stuff. I have an iPad mini just trying to play a **** game.

I have a 13-inch MacBook Mid-2009 running on IOS X Lion and am trying to upgrade to Mavericks but after the download and starting installation the point where you choose which disk to use it says my hard drive is being used for Time Machine backups so it can not be used. I have turned off the Time Machine but do not know how to remove the backups from the hard drive. What do I do to get rid of the Time Machine backups I no longer actually need and install Mavericks? I have moved all my files to a separate terabyte hard drive but that drive does not have the GUID partition scheme to be used for installation. So I am stuck with one internal hard drive I cant use due to Time Machine and an external hard drive I cant use due to this GUID partition problem. How can I work around this and finally upgrade to Mavericks?

I can't go between facebook and Yahoo with it telling me I have created a cycle. I have to go out completely and then go in to which ever one I want. It only started doing this after I installed the last Mozilla upgrade. Used too be able to switch back and for easily.

Verizon was having a problem on their end, perhaps a server down for some repair or updating. However you were already aware that there was an on-going problem in your own posting and you decided to continue on.I can understand you wanting this done and trying to save the $15.00 fee. However I would have waited a bit longer until the Verizon issue had been corrected. Yes it is frustrating but again you know in advance of a problem , I can understand that this is most upsetting for you but never try to perform any change when a problem is there and I also do not like to do business on a weekend with no live tech support available. I'm trying to import a CD onto my MBP from a superdrive for one of my college classes. However, I am unable to because it will only import two tracks and then hangs on the thrid one. After a minute or so, Itunes becomes unresponsive. I have never encountered this sort of error Windows or in OS X. Any help would definitely be appreciated.
Probably the CD is bad around the third track and iTunes is trying and re-trying to read it. If you see scratches that could very likely be it, but it could be an invisible (to you) defect in the burn or media. See if iTunes does this with another CD, or if that CD rips on other machines. I believe iTunes also has a preferences setting for error checking which you could try disabling.
You can also try a different ripper such as XLD which lets you set the CD rip paramaters. -
I am unable to close the lid on my all in one printer j6480. Has anyone else had this problem?
