2-in-1 tables...Anyone heard of this?

Hi All:
Just posting this as a shot in the dark. I was recently reviewing a system that has been implemented by a company that I consult with. It's based on Oracle Applications and I was questioning some of the design (or lack thereof) that took place.
In one instance there was a highly denormalized table that really should have been 3 separate tables. When I approached the project manager on this he refered to this as a 2-in-1 table and said that it was implemented to mitigate locking in Oracle. This is resulting in a lot of redundant data in the system (on some columns there is 30-40% redundancy) and I think that this concept is just a coverup for either laziness or lack of programming skill.
Has anyone heard of this in Oracle forms? And is there truly a locking problem (I don't think that there is)
I have yet to find anyone who has validated this concept, so I don't hold out much hope.
Thank You
Ron

If it was a custom design application, you would be better off asking your manager to dig through and provide you with a design document. When designing the application there would be document somewhere on the network. You just need to browse and understand the design considerations. Ask him if there are any MD-70 docs for the Oracle Applications.
Any changes to custom designs would warrant extensive testing on the test database/ environment.
From your statements, it seems to me as a bad initial design. Consult your Apps DBA as well on the impact of changing the table structure and also relationship.
Thanks.

  • ITunes will not start up at all: Anyone heard of this problem before??

i have just formatted my laptop, reinstalled vista and patched it up, i think i have all the updates for it at the minute. i came to download and install itunes 8, it went in fine, then started up for the first time again, populated the play list an then went to sync up my touch, my laptop will recognise it and open the autoplay, however itunes never registered it, so i shut everything down and restarted, now whenever i try to open itunes both through the start menu and desktop icons but it just will not open. Task manager shows it as running and using memory but the program wont actually open, have tried uninstalling, reinstalling and restarting pc and trying it on another user, non of which have worked. Anyone heard of this or have any advice?

Try this. Disconnect the power cord from the Mac. Now hold the Mac's power button for 10 seconds. Plug the cord back into the Mac and try starting. If this doesn't work (and other things plugged into the wall plug do work) then you are due for a trip to the local Apple store.

  • IDVD 7.2.1 is turning my 16:9 DV .mov videos into the 4:3 format.  I believe all the settings are correct. I am stuck at the very last step.  Anyone heard of this?  Thanks

I have all the settings correct, the few that there are.  I have searched for help in documentation and tutorials but have found nothing about this?  When I slide the DV 16:9 videos into the menu and then play them, they are 4:3. I am stuck at the last step. Has anyone heard of this?  Thanks

I don't have the need to make many DVDs.  I was doing this for someone who's grandfather, a D-Day veteran was featured in one of the videos for the website of the newspaper where I work.  It turns out that the DVD looks right on the widescreen TV, but not on my monitors. I could not find an answer to something that apparently was not a problem in the first place. I learned a lot from the various discussions and will be reading more of them, more often in the future.

  • In my library shuffle will not work has anyone heard of this problem?

I am using a toshiba laptop and the shuffle function in my Itunes library does not work. It's the weirdest thing I have other computers and do not have this problem. I have clicked the button and still nothing. This has been a problem for as long as I can remember. I have downloaded all the necessary updates and still it just doesn't work. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this problem or knows a way to correct this problem. Thanks in advance.

    hiya!
just checking. have all the wee check boxes to the left of your music tracks in your main itunes library window been unchecked? that can produce similar symptoms.
to check (or uncheck) all the songs in your library, hold down Ctrl and click on one of the boxes. (a "global" check or uncheck may take a wee while.)

  • Code err = -42003. Has anyone heard of this?

Every time when i visit the itunes store three requests of my id pops up, followed by an attempted download (its a part of ''Plastic Beach'') then it stopped quoting Err = -42003.
Has anyone ever come across this problem and if so, how can i solve this problem?
    Many thanks for your help,
    Gerard

You're not getting the "iTunes LP" file from "Plastic Beach", right? I had the same problem with Blueprint 3 and the Tyrese comic book (did the latter because it was the cheapest test of my theory). This error seems specific to iTunes LP downloads, but I don't feel like paying these people to tell me what they messed up. Have you had any luck?

  • Intermintent keyboard failure. anyone heard of this?

Certain keys (but not all) quit working, then work again, then quit. This is so frequent I can't use it. Anyone know what would cause keys to stop working but then return, off and on, constantly?

Possibly interference.   You need to look at what other devices may be operating n the vicinity; televisions, computer towers etc,

  • Emac ..a1002...anyone heard of this?

I was just given a eMac a1002...what it says on case...and haven't a clue how to operate it. Always a PC person & not much of a computer person at all. Been trying to find info on this equipment without any luck. It does boot up but keeps saying to reboot. So, haven't even got into it yet. If anyone has info or suggestions, let me know. Sure would hate to trash this just because I don't know how to operate it!!
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

    G'day tx,
First up - pry open the optical drive door (big oval below the screen, where the Apple logo is on the front), and tell us what it says on the sticker there.
    EG Mine says:
    1.25GHz/512MB/160GB HD/DVD-RW/CD-RW/56k MDM
Also, can you tell us the first 5 characters of the serial number - mine is YM430 - which tells us it was manufactured in China, in 2004, week 30.
When you say, "It keeps saying to reboot" - does the computer actually go all the way through the boot up process, and get to the desktop? What does the reboot window actually say exactly?
If you can get in to it, click on the Apple menu (top left corner), and then choose "About this Mac". It will tell you which version of the Mac Operating System it is running. Mine - Version 10.5.8.
    Cheers
    cosmic

  • Macbook pro 2008 beeping noises when base of laptop is not on flat surfaces. Also typing randomly zero's, it think maybe something is loose. Anyone heard of this before?

I bought it refurbished a couple of years ago, been fine in genral. Last couple of months i noticed when different preasure is placed on the bottom of the laptop it is beeping very loudly until i find a flat enough position for it to sit on. Along with this it types zeros into anything i am writing.
Any one had problems likes this or think of a reason for please help me.

My first guess is your battery is swollen. Do you notice any distortion of the bottom part of the case?
2008 MBP has a battery that is user replaceable, so try running the MBP without the battery using the AC adapter.
If in fact a swelling battery is the culprit, the only real solution is to replace it.

  • WARNING. I found a suspect add-on in my computer. It was called "greatsaver2". Anyone heard of this?

The add-on was downloaded directly into my Firefox add-ons without my knowledge or permission. It came in about the same time I was downloading music from YouTube. Luckily I found it when doing a routine check of my add-ons. I got rid of it pretty quickly and did a security check of the computer. There were no details with the add-on. Never had this happen before.

Many thanks to jscher2000 and gnittala for your help regarding the unwanted add-on called "greatsaver2". I have been having some problems with an MP3 converter which did download software I did not want. I quickly got rid of it but I think that is when the add-on got through. The problem site is (MC) YouTube Converter Version.rev8.1. Not good at all. Took a little time cleaning up the computer after trying to download a video from YouTube. I wanted audio only. This site has changed since the first time I used it. I have removed it. I was not aware that an add-on could get in this way. Very tricky. Sorry my reply is a bit late but it is just morning here in Sydney Australia. Again many thanks. What would I do without you guys!

  • IPhones Held for Ransom...  Has anyone heard of this?

A news report from the L.A. Times.
"Apple users around Australia are reporting that their mobile devices are being held for ransom by a hacker who has remotely taken control of their gadgets.
Multiple users on Twitter and Apple's online forum said a hacker going by the name of Oleg Pliss is using Apple's Find My iPhone feature to remotely lock iPhones and iPads and then send messages to users saying their iPhones and iPads will be unlocked -- after they send $100 to a PayPal account."

  • Anyone heard of this?

    I started my computer this morning, and got a very strange message when my desktop was starting. The message (in a seperate window) read as follows;
"Your computer's clock is set to a date before March 24, 2001. This may cause some applications to behave erratically. Please use the Date & Time preference panel to set the clock manually. For more information, choose Mac Help form the Help menu."
When I click OK and go to the date settings, my computer has been set to Jan 1, 1970 and I cannot make changes as I get "Application not Responding" for just about anything I try to use. I booted from an external SATA drive and got the same message. I have run Disk Warrior and it repaired a number of problems (I have the details if needed), but upon restart, I have the same message. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Dan:
It's Radio Shack part number 23-026, if you don't have an Apple Store nearby. You're looking for a 3.6 volt, 850mAh, 1/2 "AA" size Lithium Ion battery if you go to some other computer store.

ps: It's easy to change. If you want to order one, it's really inexpensive to get it here at OWC.
