2 instances 1 db 11g Win 2003
Hi Guys,
I have 2 instances running on 1 database. How do I move between the 2
On solaris this is what I'll do: export ORACLE_SID=newsid
set ORACLE_SID=newsid
On Windows what to do?
hi,
You set the oracle_sid and connect to db- it will let u know whether connected to "idle instance" or not - that provides the information for your whether instance is up and running or not.
Other options would be
1. Check Task Manager for the ORACLE.EXE process. If it is present, then the service started.
2. Check the Alert Log for the database. If the problem is not with the database, there will be no indication in the log that the database even tried to start.
3. Check the oradim.log in the $ORACLE_HOME/database directory for errors. Check the date on the log file as versions before 9i did not date/time stamp the entries.

Enterprise manager 11g - win 2003 - sys/passwd error
We have windows 2003 server and we are running 2 oracle databases in
version 11g.
We were successfully configured EM for one database and when we tried for the other database we encountered configuration errors and the log file doesnt carry that much info for me to understand the error. I searched on google and was able to find one solution, which stated that the ocijdbc11.dll was overlooked and ocijdbc10.dll is needed to fix the issue." It was a bug". I tried the solution and it worked, however the emca command ended saying cannot start dbcontrol. Went through the log and found DBCONTROL created and secured.
So manually restarted DBCONTROL, it started well.
I opened the page and tried logging in using sys/passwd as sysdba, it didnt allow me in.
I even deconfigured and configured again. i got the same error.
Can anybody suggest what would be the cause and solution or work
around for this.
Thank you

Switch Oracle user (Oracle 11g Win 2003)
Hi guys,
How do I switch between users on windows
Unix: su - ora11g
Windows:
Thank you.hi try this:--
You can switch users from the Windows Command Prompt without logging off—if say,
you need to access folders or files for another Windows user account.
1. Quit explorer.exe
2. Open Command Prompt
3. Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32
4. Enter the following command: runas /user:*computer name\*account name explorer.exe
Make sure you are cognizant of which user is logged in because this process
will not change the Windows theme when the user changes
thanks. -
Is OBIEE 11g compatible with win 2003 sp2 64 bit OS
What is the difference between software only installation and enterprise install? Our company has win2003 sp2 64 bit OS on the server. Is it compatible to OBIEE 11.1.5 g.
Thanks,
SushilHi,
There no compatible with win 2003 sp2 64 bit OS, you can install.for more refer BI Certification Matrix:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/ias/downloads/fusion-certification-100350.html
Simple Install :- Demonstration and Evaluation for Single-User Development .
software only install means it installs only the BI components not all the BI domain comoponents like java tools
Enterprise install :-Enterprise Deployment for Hosted Development and Production (this type enables you to specify several more configuration settings than the simple
FYI...
Software only install refer my blog and installation steps for Enterprise Installation
have a look for 4.5.2.3 Enterprise Install Procedure for New Installations on

IIS 6.0 proxy on Win 2003 - "Page cannot be displayed"
Hi,
I have 2 Win 2003 Server machines with IIS 6.0. I am using the IISProxy for IIS to SAP WebAS on both IIS 6.0 setups. The same files with the same proxy configuration are being used on both the machines.
While on one setup it is working fine, on the other I am being displayed the "Page cannot be displayed" error. Note that the machine which is showing the error has SAP WebAS installed along with IIS 6.0.
I have confirmed that it isn't a browser issue either.
Strangely the proxy logs show the correct data being returned by the SAP WebAS (similar in both the IIS 6.0 setups). There are no errors anywhere (checked even the IIS logs and event viewer), but somehow the page is not being displayed.
From what I could conclude that its an IIS 6.0 or machine issue. The setup working fine has the .NET framework installed on it. Is it a requirement for the IIS proxy to work on Win 2003?
Need help.....don't have a clue.
regards,
Vishal
regards,
VishalHi,
I once faced a similar problem - I am not sure if the issues are related, but here goes :
I figured out that DAS uses mod_osso to connect to the SSO Server. I hadn't configured mod_osso to correctly talk to the SSO Server. I used the ssoreg.sh script in the $ORACLE_HOME/sso/bin to make the mod_osso " talk " to the SSO Server.
After this, the DAS started working properly.
BTW, what's your AS instance version ? -
MaxDB install failure on Win 2003 Server
Win 2003 Server
MaxDB v 7.6.05.09
HP Proliant G5
Good morning,
We've got a problem with a MaxDB install on a fresh Win 2003 server.
- The first install process and the demo database worked fine
- We tried to create a new database instance and it hung. As nothing was working as expected we decided to uninstall maxdb and all its component and to re-start from a clean process. That's were things are becoming weird :
- The first time the setup assistant hung when installing the kernel
- The secund time the setup assistant hung when installing the demo database
- Every following test hangs when installing the kernel
We tried to do a clean uninstall MaxDB, to watch which registry keys we should restore... but nothings worked as expected.
We found a link at this address describing the same problem but it doesn't provide us anything to solve our problem.
Here is our log file :

it really does look like as the "uninstallation" was done by merely deleting files from the filesystem.
This will always lead to problems when you try to re-install a MaxDB afterwards.
Uninstallations should be done via SDBUNIST to avoid such issues.
Based on the error messages like:
getRelease():C:/Program Files/SDB/MAXDB1/pgm/kernel.exe not found
MSG: migrate server installation data for INSTROOT "c:/program files/sdb/maxdb1"
MSG: installed package is flaged as invalid => skipping update check

>WRN: cannot execute command: xregcomp -u "c:program filessdbprogramsliblivecachedbg": cannot create process, Le fichier spÈcifiÈ est introuvable.
we can tell: the MaxDB installation registration had not been deleted correctly.
If I'd to guess, I'd say you just deleted whatever was in the folder "c:program filessdb" and crossed fingers that this would do.
Anyhow, on this system, due to the usage of non-SAP-standard folder layout check this one, the installation registration can by found in the all users data folder:
>MSG: Template set indep data path to "c:/documents and settings/all users/application data/sdb/data"
This would have to be removed as well.
Anyhow, maybe you want to read the documentation before messing up your system by try and error:

Hi,
I just upgrade oracle 10.2.0.1 on Win 2003 server(32-bit) to 10.2.0.2. The installation seemed to be successful. (no errors) utlrp.sql ran ok as well. However, when I tried to start the upgraded database, I got the following error:
SQL> startup
ORACLE instance started.
Total System Global Area 293601280 bytes
Fixed Size 1289064 bytes
Variable Size 96470168 bytes
Database Buffers 188743680 bytes
Redo Buffers 7098368 bytes
Database mounted.
ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced
Any ideas?
Thank you very much for your help.Looks like, you have only upgraded Oracle Software from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.2. After that, immediately you are trying to bring the DB up. In that case you will receive an error "ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced".
Did you upgrade your 10.2.0.1 Database after the software upgrade? I mean did you execute the following steps.
SQL> STARTUP UPGRADE;
SQL> SPOOL patch.log
SQL> @?/rdbms/admin/catupgrd.sql
SQL> SPOOL OFF
SQL> SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
SQL> STARTUP;
SQL> @?/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql
If not please execute them, and also follow the README document of the patch carefully.

Oracle 9i release 2 for Win 2003 Server 32 bit
From the Oracle download site, do I need to download Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP 32 bit before administering the Release 2 for Win 2003 Server. (approx. 180 Meg)
Interesting. I've been using APEX 3.2 with Firefox 3.5 for several months now without any issues and I know several other developers doing the same. Can you test it from another client machine to see if it's something with the PC or the install of Firefox? You might also try [a href="http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable"]Firefox 3.5 Portable[a], as it will basically give you a clean, fresh install of 3.5 without uninstalling your current 3.5. Just make sure you close all instances of Firefox before you start up the portable one.
On a totally unrelated note, just wanted to make sure you know the 9.2 is no longer a supported database (unless you pay for extended support) and the upcoming 4.0 release of APEX will not work with 9.2 at all.

HowtO - Upgrade 10gR1 WIN 2003 ent(non-asm) to 11gR2 WIN 2008 ent(non-asm)
I did this on VMWare:
Two servers:
Two servers - old ; new
Steps
old - oracle 10g ; win 2003 enter
- 3 databases (rman catalog ; production ; testing)
1.installed 11g r2 - different home (software ONLY)
2.cold backups - 10g db
3.upgraded them to 11g r2 (minor issues, easily corrected)
4.cold backups - 11g db
5.using Oracle toad get script database structure - tablespaces ONLY - 11g db
new
6.win 2008 enter
7.installed oracle grid (later for conversion from non-asm to asm)
8.installed 11g software ONLY
9.created disks (for later use for ASM)
10.Created three blank databases
11.Created similar folder structure as 11g db in 'old' server
12.Created similar tablespaces/datafiles in blank databases as source database.
13.cold backup of three databases - quick backup and recovery
14.Copied datafiles and log files over from 'old' server to 'new' server.
15.Using VBScripts, cloned each database from old server (11g db version) cold backups.
Notes
A.Should mention, I tried export/import option (various options) - tons of errors ! Gave up....
B.Above approach is time-consuming, not quick...
Warnings:
1.Tried installing Oracle SQL Developer plus Toad will not work/or install on x64 bit OS. Developer does
not work, due to Java. (Large number of hits on this).(hit and miss affair - you may get it to work or not..)
2.So I used 'old' server, toad tool, to query database at new server
RMAN Side.
1.Errors occur when you log onto RMAN FIRST TIME.

Multiple instances of ECM 11g on one server
I've read a few posts about installing multiple instances of ECM 11g on one server, but I have a few questions. My current set up is
A single Windows 2008 Server R2 server
8 gb RAM
Weblogic 10.3.5
1 install of ECM 11g in the base_domain
Database is Oracle 11.2
I want to add another instance of ECM to this server, but when I went to run the RCU, I was not allowed to use the same prefix for my tablespaces. Is this expected? I'm fine with using a different prefix, I just was surprised to see that I couldn't use the same prefix on this install since I was using a completely different database.
Assuming I use a different prefix... do I just add a new domain for this additional ECM instance? Is there anything else I need to know?
Thank youI went to run the RCU, I was not allowed to use the same prefix for my tablespaces. Is this expected?Yes. It will create tables with the same name visible for a different database user (thus, the prefix).
do I just add a new domain for this additional ECM instance? Is there anything else I need to know?Actually, I think you can even install more instances to the same domain (this is more a question to Weblogic Server admins - I think there's been some posts recently on this topic). What definitely must be unique, is the port number. If you are OK with using different port numbers for your instances, it should be relatively easy. If you need the same port (e.g. 80 because of proxy limits), there are some ways how to redirect - it that case, two domains might be required. -
Trying to configure a Win 2003 Server to use TLS server authentication . . .
I am trying to
configure a Win 2003 Server to use TLS server authentication following Method 2 in KB 895443 - see below:-
Method 2: By using the Certificate Request Wizard
The following steps describe how to obtain a certificate from a Windows Server 2003 Certification Authority. You can also request a certificate from a Windows 2000
Certification Authority. Additionally, you must have Read permissions and Enroll permissions on the certificate template file to successfully request a certificate. Use this method if one or more of the following conditions are true:
You want to request a certificate from an Enterprise Certification Authority.
You want to request a certificate that is based on a template where the subject name is generated by Windows.
You want to obtain a certificate that does not require administrator approval before the certificate is issued.
To obtain a certificate, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type mmc, and then click OK.
On the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in.
Click Add, click Certificates, and then click Add.
Click Computer account, and then click Next.
If you want to add a certificate to the local computer, click Local computer. If you want to add a certificate to a remote computer, click Another
computer, and then type the name of that remote computer in the Another computer box.
Click Finish.
In the Add Standalone Snap-in dialog box, click Close, and then click OK in the Add/Remove
Snap-in dialog box.
Under Console Root, click Certificates (Local Computer).
Note If you configured the Certificates MMC snap-in to manage a remote computer, click Certificates (servername)instead of Certificates (Local Computer).
On the View menu, click Options.
In the View Options dialog box, click Certificate purpose, and then click OK.
In the right pane, right-click Server Authentication, point to All Tasks, and then click Request New Certificate.
In the Certificate Request Wizard that starts, click Next.
In the Certificate types list, click Server Authentication, click to select the Advanced check box,
and then click Next.
In the Cryptographic Service Providers list, click Microsoft RSA SChannel Cryptographic Provider.
I get as far as step 11 and I get the error message:-
The wizard cannot be started because of one or more of the following conditions:
- There are no trusted certification authorities (CAs) available.
- You do not have the permissions to request certificates from the available CAs.
- The available CAs issue certificates for which you do not have permissions.
This is covered in KB 927066 – see below:-
To resolve the problem, follow these steps:
Verify that the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group exists in the domain that hosts the certification authority. This group is in the CN=Users container.
To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run,
type Dsa.msc, and then click OK.
In the left pane, click the Users container.
Verify that the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group is in the right
pane. If the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group is not in the right pane, go to step 4.
Verify that the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group includes the following member groups:
Domain Users
Domain Computers
If these member groups do not exist in the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group, go to step 4.
Note If users or computers in other domains need to enroll against the certification authority, you must also add those users and computers to the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group. If the current problem occurs on a domain
controller, you must also add the Enterprise Domain Controllers group to the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group. By default, domain controllers are not members of the Domain Computers global group. Therefore, domain controllers
do not have sufficient DCOM permissions.
Verify that the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group has the appropriate DCOM Access permissions and DCOM Launch and Activation permissions on the computer that hosts the certification
authority.
Click Start, point to Program,
point to Administrative Tools, and then click Component Services.
Expand the Component Services node.
Expand the Computers node.
Right-click the My Computer node, and
then click Properties.
Click the COM Security tab.
Under Access Permission, click Edit
Limits.
Verify that the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group has Allow Local Access and Allow
Remote Access permissions, and then click Cancel.
Under Launch and Activation Permissions, click Edit
Limits.
Verify that the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group has Allow Local Activation and Allow
Remote Activationpermissions, and then click Cancel.
Click Cancel, and then close the Component
Services console.
Settings may be incorrect if any one of the following conditions is true:
The CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group does not exist.
The default membership of the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group is incorrect.
The CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group does not have the correct permissions.
If any one setting is incorrect, run the following commands at a command prompt. Press ENTER after each command.
certutil -setreg SetupStatus -SETUP_DCOM_SECURITY_UPDATED_FLAG
net stop certsvc
net start certsvc
Repeat steps 1 through 3 to verify that all the settings are correct.
Note If the changes affect the group membership of the certification authority server, you must restart the server for the changes to take effect.
The only part of the above instructions which I have not been able to complete is:-
“you must also add the Enterprise Domain Controllers group to the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group”.
When I click on the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS user then click the Members tab & go to add Enterprise Domain Controllers the option is not there.Hi Nick,
Have you successfully set up an enterprise CA?
If yes, is the enterprise CA’s certificate located under the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store?
Best Regards,

Error during installation of SAP on win 2003 Server
Hello All,
I am trying to install SAP 4.6 on win 2003 server. The process of installation has completed for almost more than 9 hours. I am getting an error during "Database post processing". When I clicked "retry" the installation has stopped and restarted the system. I tried to start the SAP server which turns from Yellow to green. In my case, it turns to yellow and cannot proceed further.
Also, is it necessary to stop the Oracle services till the end of the installtion?
In addition, please send me Installation guide for the same to my mailid:
[email protected]
Please do let me know your inputs on how to resolve the issue.
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Noor Basha-> which database are you on?
-> sap 4.6 is rather old...think about installing supported releases such as 4.7 or erp2004/2005
-> what were your guides/notes you referred to during the installation?
