2 iphone in 1 household

Hi
My husband and I both have the iphone4 and was told that I need 2 separate account with itunes in order to keep them synced separately??? Is this true?? Please advise
Thanks
Mary B

You can sync as many devices as you want to the same itunes account. You can have the same content on each device or different content, the choice is yours. Itunes will keep everything straight by device upon subsequent syncs. You "may" run into an issue with contacts & calendars, depending on what OS you are using & what supported applications on your computer, I.E.-you may both have the same contacts & calendars. But, no you do not need separate itunes accounts. It is advised to have separate computer logins & itunes accounts to keep everything absolutely separate, but not required.

  • I have two iphones in my household and neither phone has the wifi greyed out, what is apple doing to rectify this problem

What are Apple doing to rectify the problem that the Wifi icon is greyed out and you can no longer get onto Wifi!!
This has happened on both iPhones I my household!!
It must be a problem with Apple as so many people seem to having the same problem.
I have tried resetting networks, resetting phone etc....nothing works

Broaden your perspective a bit.  There are literally millions of phones out in the world without any issues at all.  If you are reading posts on the internet about the ones with issues, then you would be left with the impression that they all have issues.  Neither you nor I have data to support the existence of a widespread issue of this type.
Having said that, the only issue that matters is the one at hand; yours.  Let's stay focused on that.  Help is here and if we can't counsel you toward a software solution, then help will be available elsewhere, but at some cost to you.

  • Is there a way to wire my iPhone into my household landline and use it without a sim as such ? any advice would be greatly appreciated

is there a way to wire my iPhone into my household landline and use it without a sim as such ? any advice would be greatly appreciated

Mobile devices do not get "wired" to anything.
There are devices that will allow for connecting a mobile phone via Bluetooth to the base station which is plugged into the phone lines in the home. Then calls can be placed/received from any phone in the home.
There are cordless phones that do a similar function.
Search google.... this has nothing to do with Apple or the iPhone specificially.

  • 2 iphones in our household and the second one is receiving the first one's text messages

My son and I both have the iphone 4.  We share the itunes file. We just ran the last update to 6.1.2.  The next morning I had a message on my phone that said my son's phone was using my number and all you could click was the ok button.  Throughout the day as I was receiving and sending text messages my son was also receiving them.  Thinking they were for him he was also able to join in the text messaging.  I went to itunes and that menu is now different too and I could not find anything that would stop this.  Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?

This happens when you both use the same Apple ID for iMessage.  To fix this you have two choices:
On one of the phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID.  Note: you can still share the same ID for purchasing in Settings>iTunes & App Stores; or
On both phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and uncheck the email address(es) shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at".  Also uncheck the other phone's phone number, if present.

  • IPhone 4S shutting down after iOS7 and support from Apple Chat

So, my iPhone is shutting down suddenly with battery at about 40% and saying that it ran out of juice, asking me to plug in the charger. When I do it, it shows 40% again. It looks like other people have similar issues with not only the 4S, but iPhone 5 as well.
I tried to contact the char support and well, read by your self below. Not only nothing was solved, but the support just hanged up the chat on me, and didn't answer my last question. That's really not what I expected from Apple. Well, that's it, no more iPhone in my household.
Case ID is 537464016 in case anyone from Apple wants to check it out. I'm selling this iPhone and never coming back.

    Hi Janan
Hi Luccas, how are you doing today?
Good thanks. I have an issue with my iPhone 4S
Luccas, from what I see in the pre-chat notes you provided, it looks like you are having an issue with Battery life. Is this correct?
Since I updated it with iOS7, the phone is shutting down suddenly when the battery is below 40%
I wait then about 10 min, or I do plug in the charge, and the battery shows 40% again
I tried to restore the phone using iTUnes
    twice
but the issue is still happenning
Did you set up your phone as new after restoring?
    yes
How long until the unexpected shut downs started up again then?
    straight away
I found your diagnostics… Give me a moment to have a look?
    ok
Ok, there may be an issue with your battery, but we’ll need to have you do some troubleshooting before we can verify that it needs replacing. How does this sound to you?
    sounds good
One moment while I tic the boxes of the things you’ve already done please
    ok
Do you show any appellations in your App store that needs updating?
    no
Do you lock your iPhone when not in use to shut the screen off?
    yes
How bright have you set your display?
    it's on automatic
    Do you use Wifi mostly?
at home and at work yes, so it's on wifi most of time
Do you have a lot of applications pushing notifications to you?
no, the phone doesn't have a lot of apps, especially after I restored it
    Understood
Do you use your phone for emails?
    yes
On your phone, would you go to Settings > Mail, contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data for e please?
    yes
    it's set to push
but I don't use the mail app from Apple
    I use the Gmail application
    Ah… Ok
So there’s no email used there.
Back up to the Settings page please?
    ok
Go to General > Background App Refresh now
yes, I disabled most of the apps her
I just have the Gmail app and the Google Maps
as these are the ones I use most
LOL… You are the perfect user!
    What about Location Services?
it;s on, but again, just for google maps
    Ok
and the find my phone service
    Exactly
Let’s go back into General then Usage please?
Sorry, Nevermind, I can view that from your diagnostics...
    ok
    Do you use Instagram?
    yes
That’s caused some memory issues of late...
Your battery is starting to show wear though
I didn't have any issues before updating to iOS7
the battery was working perfectly fine
    never have any shutdown
Your battery is also 2 years old
One of the updates addressed battery issues and since you’ve restored your iPhone, it appears that it is on its way out.
the battery was 2 years old last month as well, when I had iOS6 and was working fine
    I have done all updateds
I certainly apologize about the inconvenience this issue is causing.
But since you’re using your phone correctly, your restore hasn’t had any affect, this is the only conclusion I can reach
    so, what's the solution?
can I come back to iOS6?
I’m afraid there’s no way to go back to iOS 6
so, I can't come back to the OS my phone was working properly, and I have to stick with a OS where my phones shutdown in the middle of the day with half battery full
Again, it isn’t the fault of the operating system software.
so, can you explain me why not?
if with iOS6 the battery didn't have a problem
and suddenly, when I update, I have an issue?
You have restored your phone and set up as new. If that fixed the battery life, then it was a software issue. If not, it was a hardware issues
look, if I come back to iOS6, the batttery issue is gone
    so, it's a software issue
One moment while I get a senior advisor for you please?
    ok
There’s just a few minutes wait time.
    no problem
Just checking back… Our chat volume has gone up since Phone Support closed. This isn’t a normal wait but I’m still waiting with you.
    that's fine
    Still waiting with you
    ok
Luccas, your problem requires extra knowledge and skill so I've got Calvin, one of my senior advisors taking over from here to make sure your problem gets the attention it deserves if that's okay with you. It was my pleasure to assist you today and I will leave you in Calvin's capable hands.

    ok
Hello Luccas, I see that your device is shutting down when the battery gets to about 40%, is that correct?
    correct
I am really sorry to hear that, I can see that being frustrating.
it shows that image saying to plug in the charges as the battery is dead
I looked over the diagnostic it shows pass but its in yellow.
yes, especially if you consider that was working just fine one month ago before I updated to iOS7
I understand, it may cause people to think its the software but really what happens is during a restore or update sometimes it just brings the existing issues to the surface.
As even though your battery pass, its in yellow signifying its ready to failed but it appears its already failing.
Normal battery passes, its in green.
Since you have already restored it as new. That pretty isolated the issue.
sorry, I still don't get it. In one version of the software, my battery lasted the whole day without any issues. Now, after updating, the battery shutsdown at 40%. That's software issue for me. And, more important, if I wait about 10 to 15 min and try to turn on the phone. It's back again, and last until is about 30%, than, the same issue occurs.
If iOS6 was able to handle the battery just fine. I would like to be able to install it again
I understand you do have some concerns regarding iOS 7 and would like to revert back to your previous software. In order to avoid compromising your device in anyway the software is only designed to move forward. Downgrading the iOS is a feature that Apple cannot assist with as well as recommend since it can negatively affect your device.
However, we are always open to suggestions from our customers. Using this website (apple.com/feedback) would be the best option for submitting your concerns directly to Apple. We love to hear from our customers and future updates may even include specific features suggested to us by our customers.
Now keep in mind we have hundreds of millions of iOS device out there and most of them are running iOS 7 and running it fine.
In my case, upgrade the software affected negatively my device.
and a quick search on google shows that a lot of people have similar issues as me
Ok, we're running in circles here
You can do a search for iPhone anything and you will bring up a lot.
I though you would come and offer a solution
    but you're just appologizing
not the kind of support I would expect from a premium product
The solution would be an out of warranty paid service.
not sure if would pay the premium next time
I don't see this as a solution. Because was an upgrade of software that made my phone stop working properly
I am sorry, I would have to respectfully disagree. I do agree that you notice the issue after the update. However does not mean that the update cause the issue.
So, explain me why in iOS6 it did happen?
I am sorry but there is just too many possibilities out there and I would just be speculating.
ok, so, at the same time that doesn't mean that the upgrade it's the cause, it could possibly mean that it's the cause, do you agree?
So explain to me why hundred of millions of units are running it fine?
I can't say about the hundred million of units
and that's not an issue that I care about
If even a fraction of the people had this call. I would not be talking to you as there would be huge backup of customers waiting.
what I care about is that the phone I paid 800 swiss francs is not working after a software update
I have a problem, and I'm contacting the customer service, so I care about being taking seriously and looking at the issue in my device
telling me that hundred of millions of devices works, and mine doesn't, that's not helpful
Ok, let me have you call phone support in you’re region. So that they can open up a engineering ticket and get you a response directly from engineering.
    United Kingdom
    (44) 0844 209 0611***
so, now you're saying that the last hour of my time has been useless because it's not you that can solve my problem?
and worse, you're making my self calling someone else and loosing even more time?
What I am saying is you are not accepting my solution and you believe you are correct.
So lets go with your direction to get you an answer directly from engineering.
no, you're asking me to pay for a new battery
    That is my solution.
and you're expeculating that's the solution
    you're not sure about that
You disagree so lets go get you an answer from higher up, do you not like that solution?
Lets agree to disagree and find you the answer you want.
    Period.
ok, but I don't want to loose more of my time to call someone. And pay for the call
Debating this with me is not going to get us anyhwere.
I can setup a call back for you if you like.
you have access to the customer service system and could open a ticket
What number is best to reach you at?
    +44 07445376676
    just for my information
    what they will look at?
    anything they will do differently?
Call is schedule for 8:00-8:15 AM.
    tomorrow?
    Saturday.
    Greenwich time.
ok, again, can you tell me what they will look at? anything they can see that you couldn't?
    Thank you for your time.
Your chat session has ended. Thanks for using Apple's chat support

Sounds like you have a battry issue but don't want to believe it.
If a car was running fine on one tank of gas, then you filled it up with another tank of gas and it began to run funny, one might suspect that tank of gas. But let's just say coincidence blew a valve-- would you think the new tank of gas was the culprit?
BUT WAIT!! It just might have been! The gas could have been of higher octane and put more more strain on the valves; you know, like going from 87 octane (OS6) to 93 octane (OS7) and showing you the engine was on the edge of compromise.
Sometimes you have to go with common sense. If everything else is ruled out, it must be the battery. And if it runs fine one moment in OS6 but immediately ***** in OS7, I'd believe my battery was suspect-- though comfy-- in OS6 but the OS7 showed its true power.
Moreover, if you had the answer-- or didn't want to believe someone's more competent advice-- why did you even call?  You've already shown that you don't know much when you asked if you could go backwards after setting up the new OS as a new phone.
Additonally, if you're such the know-it-all, but yourself the $29 battery and put it in yourself. It's a piece of cake.

  • ITunes with multiple iPhones

Does anyone know if it's possible to have multiple iPhones set up on a single iTunes account? If so, how do you do this? I already have an iTunes account but will have a second iPhone in the household... want to be able to share/sync music library, apps, purchased music, movies, etc. Any ideas?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Claudia

My question is a  bit different. I have not yet been able to wean my wife off her dying Dell. While she has iTunes on it sync fails so she has not backed up her 3GS phone in ages. She has different music, pictures, and apps than I do, and we do not want to share these. So I want to sync her phone (and iPad as well) to my Macbook Pro, but keeping things separate. The responses and Apple material regarding syncing multiple phones to a single Mac talk about shared music and media libraries and do not seem to talk about apps.
I'm afraid if I try to sync her devices to my iTunes it will wipe out her apps and media. Can anyone confirm or refute this?
    Thanks

  • New macbook does not "see" my network, old macbook pro and iphones do...

Yesterday I installed an upgrade to my airport extreme base station, now my macbook pro and the 2 iphones in the household see the wifi network but the other macbook does not. It does see the neighbors wifi networks and will see it when I connect via a cable to the base station by no wireless connection... help!

I am having a similar problem. I have 19 iBooks in a classroom and, suddenly, none of them can see the AirPort Express network when they log on. Instead, the iBooks try to connect to a Windows-based school network. I have designated the AEBS network as the only preferred network but the iBooks NEVER try to connect to it first. However, if you click on the AirPort icon in the menu bar, the AEBS network is clearly visible and clicking on it immediately connects you to the AEBS network.
When I originally set up the network in January, everything worked just fine. After the upgrade to AE Firmware 5.7 and various OS X 10.4.5 updates, everything has gone downhill. I had the dropped signal problem that so many have reported. I downgraded to AE Firmware 5.5.1 and followed J. Exby's procedure to upgrade the AEBS framework. That solved the dropped signal problem. But now my iBooks cannot find the AEBS network when they log in.
I have set the AirPort Network Preferences to connect Automatically or to Preferred Networks with the same result. I have also set the option to "Keep looking for recent networks" and it never finds our AEBS network. Yet, the network can be accessed manually through the AirPort icon.
BTW, I use one of the iBooks myself and it works perfectly and finds my preferred network in 2 other locations with non-AEBS networks. But it cannot see its own preferred network in school.
This is really bugging my students--and me! Any suggestions? THANKS!

  • Syncing multiple iphones to the same imac and sharing the same ical

I have 3 iphones in my household. is there a way to sync all of these to share the same ical?

    Yes.
There is no device limit for the number of iPods and/or iPhones that can be synced with the same iTunes library and iTunes account on the same computer. Each iPhone can be synced with iCal and the Address Book under the same computer login account. Each iPhone can have its own sync preferences with iTunes and iTunes will maintain a separate backup for each iPhone, which will be updated for each iPhone as the first step during the iTunes sync process.

  • Two iphones one itunes

There are two iphones in my household. Only one will show up on the itunes list. When either one is pluged in itunes syncs both the same. How do I make it see two different iphones so each can have different folders?

This didn't happen all by itself. This happened by you choosing to transfer the backup for your roommate's iPhone to your iPhone followed by a sync with your roommate's selections under the various tabs for your roommate's iPhone sync preferences with iTunes selected for and transferred to your iPhone as well. Or you selected to sync contacts with the same supported address book application on the computer as your roommate for your iPhone sync preferences and the same for apps.
There is no device limit for the number of iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that can be synced with the same iTunes library and iTunes account on the same computer. Each device synced with the same iTunes library can have the same or different sync settings which is selected under the various tabs for the device's sync preferences with iTunes.
If you choose to sync contacts with your iPhone with the same supported address book application as your roommate, then the contacts on each iPhone will be the same. If you choose to transfer the same apps under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes as your roommate, the same apps will be installed on your iPhone. The same for photos, movies, tv shows, books, and podcasts.
If you want your own iTunes library, create a separate computer login account on the computer for yourself.

  • 2 iphonesin the household, I don't want to recieve his mail, he dosen't want to receive mine, but when we sync on Itunes we get both,

2 iphones in the household,I receive my email, as well as his,  He receives his email, as well as mine, how do we NOT get each otherrs mail?  is it because I only have one itunes account, and when either one us of syns, we are both using the same itunes account?

It sounds like the problem is that you have your iTunes set up to sync mail accounts.. What you want to do is uncheck that option in iTunes for each phone.. This will remove your email accounts from each of the phones.  You can then re-add your individual account to your own iPhones.. Especially with iCloud now, there is really no need to have anything on the "INFO" tab in iTunes..
I tried to make as much sense as possible, ask if you don't understand, but basically you need to not have the email addresses sync through iTunes, instead just add them "manually" to the phones themselves..
    Hope this helps..

  • Will the iPhone 6.1.3 update slow down my iPhone 4?

I've been a little reluctant to update my iPhone 4 from ios 5.0.1 to 6.1.3 because I'm worried that it will severely slow down my phone.  I had this problem happen to me before with my iPhone 3.  Every time I updated the softwear, my phone got slower and slower.  I like some of the new features of the recent updates to the iPhone softwear, but I'm just afraid that it will make the phone slower than it already is.
I'd love to get the new iPhone 5, but I recently lost my job and just can't afford it.
    Thanks, Paul

Sorry, but I disagree with your post. I have 4 iPhones in my household and none of them have poor battery life and the wifi is working on all 4 of the, so that shoots your theory out of the water, unless I don't count as part of "everyone else".

  • Photo Sorting on iPad and iPhone all screwed up - HELP

I don't know when exactly this happened - but in one of the recent updates in the last two months of either iTunes, iPhoto, or iOS something was changed in the photo sorting algorithms. iPhoto does not seem to dictate the sort order any more?
I have a smart album in iphoto that is called "our best pics" and that automatically takes the top ranked pictures and sorts them by date. That used to be perfectly mirrored on the iPad and iPhones in our household. Since a few weeks, this does not work anymore. The order of the pictures in the album are now very random, but identical on all iOS devices. I tried deleting the pictures and re-syncing, but nothing changes. Anyone have any ideas?
    Many thanks Klaus

Spare yourself the pain. Use 3rd apps to sort you photos.

  • Home Sharing not seen by iPhone or ATV 3rd Gen

I ran in to this problem before with Home Sharing not being seen by mt ATV 3rd Gen or any iPhone in my household when I upgraded iTunes back in Feb. The solution I found before was in my firewall rules (I believe) for my AV software (I also made changes to Windows Firewall even though it is disabled). I updated iTunes to 12.2.1.27 last night and the problem has returned.
iTunes is signed in and Home Sharing is on. ATV is also signed in and HS is on. My iPhone 6+ can connect to my ATV. I signed all devices out and turned off HS then signed back in a turned HS on with no resolution. I followed Apples directions for removing Apple software in order, then re installed the older version of iTunes that I had saved. Still no luck. I have disabled the firewalls in my router as well as my AV firewall and Windows Firewall is always disabled. I have tried the iTunes "Run as Administrator" solution others have suggested with no luck as well.
It seems like Bonjour is simply not doing what it is supposed to.

GO to programs and feature in your control panel, select bonjour and click the repair button to reinstall it, reboot the pc and if your firewalls on check to make sure bonjour is still on the list. Start iTunes back up and everything should Be working again. I did this yesterday to solve this problem after updating. If things still don't work try restoring windows firewall to default settings to clear the allowed list, then repair bonjour, reboot, re ad Apple software to the firewall list and start up iTunes. I have to do this everyte iTunes updates And it always works for me.

  • HT201210 I have attempted to restore my iPhone 4s but failed despite following instructions here on troubleshooting. Anyone plsease help. Many thanks

Guys, please help me. I was updating my itunes in my computer then i connected my iphone to it to Sync. however, i was prompted to restore my iphone setting which I did. however, after 5 attempts, my phone is still not restored. Thanks for the help

Wow gdgmacguyo!  I'm not an idiot.... I do realize that ALL the people on these forums have problems.  But, maybe you didn't consider that all these people have multiple Apple devices (perhaps multiple iPhones in their household) that they have experienced different outcomes after the upgrade with and perhaps went about upgrading in different ways (OTA, iTunes, iTunes in DFU mode) and have learned something that they might be able to share with me!  Gosh!  Shoot me for asking.
We learn and benefit from other's experiences... that is why these forums exist.  You're obviously on here for the same reason... unless you're just looking for a way to release your frustrations.
Thanks for your words of wisdom!
