2 iPhones - 1 Mac - Syncing Contacts?

Yesterday I upgraded to the new iPhone 4 and bought my wife one as well. I went to sync our contacts to our corrisponding Yahoo accounts and found them merged into one account. Is there anyway to pull our seperate contacts? I'm sure its an easy fix, but not sure how to set it up. Thanks for your help

I hav been syncing two phones to one Mac (with one user account) since the 3G came out.... each phone has different information sync'd to it (The second phone I've generally given to one of my assistants when I send them out to market and I don't want my personal information, contacts, accounts on it.)
I just use the iTunes screens (the tabs that appear when you plug in a phone and click on it in the iTunes sidebar) to check off the different information I wants sync'd to - or removed from - each phone.
On the Summary tab undeer Options, check "sync only checked songs and videos"...on the info tab you can choose "All" or "Selected" (and then select the categories or accounts you want to sync), for each sync-able item. If your phone sync's automatically when you plug it in, just make your changes after the sync is complete and click on "apply" in the bottom right corner of the particular tab.... it will re-sync. (I've found that if I'm changing a lot of information under contacts, it's sometimes faster to delete all contacts from the iphone before I make the changes..)
iTunes will save each phone's backup separately and will remember your syncing preferences for each between syncs...

  • Can two users on the same Mac sync contacts by using the same Apple ID in the iCloud settings?

Can two users on the same Mac sync contacts by using the same Apple ID in the iCloud settings?

    Hi Barney,
That's exactly what I want. I have a personal user and a business user on my MacBook Pro. I want both users to have the same contacts so if I add a contact while I'm logged into my personal user, it will show up when I'm logged into my business user. I want both contacts books to be exactly the same; like you said. So, I used my business user AppleID when I enabled iCloud for my personal user and I enabled iCloud for my business user with that Apple ID as well. For my personal user, I selected Contacts and Calendars to sync with iCloud. For my business user, I selected everything to sync with iCloud. The problem is... it didn't change anything. I restarted my computer to see if that would do anything but nothing happened. I'm not super savvy with Apple products, so maybe I'm completely confused.
    Hi Xeni,
Thank you for your response, as well.

  • My iPhone will not sync contacts to my Mac

When I sync my phone it won't sync contacts to my Mac. I do not have contacts syncing to iCloud and I do have sync contacts selected in iTunes. If I create an entry in my Mac it will sync to my phone but no new entries or old contacts will sync to my Mac address book. It used to sync before. When it stopped I don't know. Just noticed over this weekend.

    Nobody??? No suggestions???

  • IPhone 3G cannot sync contacts/calendar with iTunes 7.7 in Vista

    My environment:
    Computer - PC
OS - Windows XP Pro SP2
Apple Products - iPhone 3G with Itunes 7.7
Software - Miscrosoft Office with Outlook 2003
    Laptop Vaio FZ21M
    OS - Windows Vista SP1
Apple Products - iPhone 3G with Itunes 7.7
Software - Miscrosoft Office with Outlook 2007
When I connect my iPhone 3G to the laptop, iTunes launch, but in Info tab I don't get the option to sync Contacts or Calendar. The only message that appears is "Your contacts are being pushed to your iPhone over the air from Microsoft Exchange"
On the other hand when I connect iPhone 3G to desktop with Windows XP SP2, I get the option to sync contacts with Outlook/Gmail Address Book/Yahoo Address Book, etc. Today I performed an update to iTunes, installing version 7.7.046 ,but the problem persists.
A collegue of mine has excactly the same problem, he is also using a laptop running Windows Vista SP1 , iTunes 7.7 but Outlook 2003 instead. When he connects iPhone 3G, he doesn't get the option to sync Contacts or Calendar. Email sync option is available.
Is there anything we can do?

I had the same problem with my 3G phone.  I solved it as follows
    1) Go to preferences in your address book and delete the iCloud.  This will revert your address book to 'On My Mac'.
    2) Turn off your iCloud account in system preferences.
    3) Run iTunes, enable sync contacts and under advanced, replace information on this phone, enable contacts.
    4) Press apply button and sync should begin. Itunes will now load your contact file into the phone.
    5) Re-enable your iCloud account.

Changes have been made to Mavericks regarding syncing contacts and calendar. That needs to be done via iCloud now. Take a moment to search the More Like This area or search for Mavericks threads that should provide you with more information.

  • IPhone stuck on syncing contacts

I recently purchased a 16GB iPhone and have been very happy with it. Really good. However, this week it gets stuck on 'syncing contacts' whenever I plug it into the dock. I eventually reset the phone, backing it up at the same time, and whilst iTunes restored it to factory settings and restored all my text messages it refuses to sync the rest of the handset. The result is that I now have a phone wiped of all my music. I've tried a different dock but that makes no difference. What should I do? If you were to suggest reinstalling iTunes how can i avoid having to upload all my music onto my iMac again?

The iTunes music library should still be on your iMac, so when it syncs it should sync your music again. So reinstall iTunes; the library is separate from the program. Try temporarily disabling Contact sync so you can get through the sync and recover your music.
However, your Contacts problem is probably due to bad data in the Address Book database on the iMac. This is the problem you need to fix. I know how to do it on Windows, but you will have to wait for a Macspert to do that.

  • Two iphones, one computer - syncing contacts

I have just posted a messgae and when I logged back in it had gone??....someone kindly sent me a link, can you repost please?? Also if I set up two dist lists for myself and my husband in outlook 2007 will itunes reconise the two groups when I sync?
Both myself and my husband have got itunes accounts set up on the same computer, but when I sync our phones itunes transfers all my contacts (from outlook) to my husbands phone and all of my husbands contacts to my phone...so we always end up with each others contacts on our phones which is a nightmare!
Can you tell me how I can just update our own contacts when we sync our phones? Do I need to set up something in my outlook 2007 account - two different groups or something? If so how?
On the itunes summary page it has on option on 'sync contacts with' which says 'all contacts' or 'selected groups' but it wont let me click on selected groups.
    Thanks in advance

    Ok thanks.
It says on the link above that Office Outlook 2007 calls them distribution lists - I have some of these already set up but itunes doesnt give me the option to select them individually, the 'selected groups' on info option is not available to select.
So should I go ahead and set up dist lists for mine and my husbands contacts this way or not?
    Thanks

  • Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac sync Contacts and Calendar issues

OK, so I have a Macbook Pro with OS X Mountian Lion. I have Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac installed. Asked @BlackberryHelp on Twitter how to sync my Blackberry Torch with Outlook as it seems to default to using the builtin Apple Contacts and Calendar instead of Outlook. So they sent me the link to KB19148: "How to synchronize organizer data in Microsoft Office for Mac between the BlackBerry smartphone and a Mac computer using BlackBerry Desktop Software". So I turned on the Sync Services in Outlook and it gave me the dialog box confirming that everything was synced. And it appeared to copy and sync whatever Contacts in the Apple Contacts and calendar entries in the Apple Calendar into Outlook and vice versa. Cool since that's what I wanted.
Then I tried using the Blackberry Desktop Manager to sync everything to my Blackberry Torch 9810. Everything looked like it synced until I opened my Blackberry and all my Contacts were gone. Same with my Calendar entries, except that the Calender entries were hit and miss to whatever copied over (some Calendar entries were missing and others were duplicates). Checked the Apple Contacts and all of them were gone. But when I opened Outlook, everything was there and all OK.
So am I missing something? Turning on Sync Services in Outlook should sync all my Contacts and Calendar with my Blackberry when I use Blackberry Desktop Manager, correct? So why is it still syncing with the Apple Contacts and Calendar (and why did it delete all my Apple Contacts and mess up my Apple Calendar)?
Good thing I backed everything up first so restored everything. But I have all my updated Contacts and Calendar in Outlook and I still need to sync all of that. I don't want to manually do it. So how do I fix this??

After a bit of googling I think you mean the notation "domain\username", i.e., a backslash separator but no leading backslash.
I am not familiar with that notation but apparently it is valid in some contexts.  I googled "os x "domain\username"" to confirm this notation.  Here's one of the hits that shows the notation:
OS X Lion: Guidelines for connecting to a DFS namespace via SMB
I think "DFS" is a distributed file system.  That's as much as I know about this.

  • IPhone 3GS was syncing contacts to Google but stopped???

When I set up the sync process a few months ago I'm positive I tested bi-directional sync between Google Mail, Calendar, and Contacts. The other day I noticed my Contacts are only syncing one way - from Google to iPhone!?
Calendar and Mail are still just fine. What did I do? Or what can I do to correct?
    Help please and thank you!

Anyone have some help pointers on this problem please?

  • IPhone does not sync contacts after uninstalling mobileme

I tried MobileMe, and could not get it to sync. I decided to uninstall, and having done so, cannot get contacts to sync, or even reset from iTunes. iCal does sync, but contacts do not, I have tried a reset, as above, I have tried deleting the backup, and then adding the phone as a new device, deleting all the data on the phone, and while it says it syncs, I am still showing old contact data. I can't even figure out that one, it's almost as if it is still using the MobileMe data, even though I deleted my MobileMe account from my iPhone, which restored my ability to sync directly.

try to connect in recovery mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808. you may need to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747.

  • ICloud wiped calendars from iPhone - also not syncing contacts

I migrated from mobileme to iCloud - all functions appeared to be ok and syncing between iMac, MacBook Pro and iCloud viewed online via browser.
Mail is syncing with my iPhone and iWork is syncing and working fine.
But it does not appear to be syncing my contacts with the iPhone - I made a couple of minor alterations to contacts as a way of checking - amendments appear on both iMac and MacBook Pro and iCloud in browser, but not on phone
But most importantly - all my calendars have been wiped from my iPhone.
Mail, contactsm calendars, reminders, bookmarks, notes and find my iPhone are all turned on on my iPhone
    I have:-
    1) Ensured I had a Wi-fi connection
    2) turned iPhone off and on again
    3) held home and power buttons to reset iPhone
    4) turned calenders (and contacts) off in iCloud sync and turned back on again after a few minutes
    5) gone to settings for mail, calender, contacts and changed the sync setting from events 3 months back to all events and tried refreshing calendar again.
    6) I have checked the iCloud sync settings for calendar and contacts in system preferences on both my iMac and MackBook Pro
    7) Have done a full restore of iPhone software
    8) gone through 2 - 5 again having done the full restore
    9) deleted the account on my iPhone and then re-entered account
    10) gone through 2 - 5 again having re-entered account details
Cannot think of anything else I can do - visted local Applestore, but they were unable to help without a Genius Bar appointment which I have for four days time. If anyone can help more immediately than this, then I'd be grateful.
    thanks

    randers4-
Thank you for all of your help.
But, it's still not working for me.
Firstly I'm new to Icloud. I have a feeling that I am missing something basic between Icloud and Iphone. I am at the point were I'm not even sure what to ask. Sorry for all the "possible" over info, but I wanted to be as clear as possible.
    Goal:
-Changing from Iphone 3gs to 4s
-Download all info from Icloud to the new 4s
-only 1/2 contacts from 3gs are uploaded to Icloud, hence, 4s doesn't have the contacts
-problem: my computer is so old it (itunes)will no longer sync to either Iphone.
    - "Test contact" performed on Iphone 3gs and it did upload to Icloud. So it's on the Icloud website contacts page when I log in.
    - I have clicked import SIM contacts and uploaded to Icould. However I'm not sure if it really did it. It did say complete, but who knows.
    Iphone 3gs 6.1.2
    Groups:
    All Exchange √
    All Icloud √
      Family √
      Friends√
    Setting> mail contacts calendars>
    mail = default Icloud
    contacts = default Icloud
Setting > Icloud> = all switched to ON except Notes.
Setting > Icloud> Storage Backup>Manage Storage>Backups>Backup Options = All apps ON, Camera Roll ON---- But no Contacts is there---I find this strange.
About 1/2 of my contacts are missing.
All Exchange contacts are in Icloud
All Friends and Family contacts are in Icloud
If I click on All Icloud the Freinds and Family groups check mark automatically too. So they look to me like they are "under" Icloud All group.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Kind Regards

  • What will happen to my iPhone contacts if I choose to "Delete from my iPhone" the previously synced contacts from the iCloud?

When I updated my iPhone 3GS to i06, my contacts were messed up.  Some of my contacts were lost, and one of my contacts which I had two numbers for, a new one and an old number, now only has one number and it is the old one.  So, will I get my original contacts back if I choose the "Delete from my iPhone" choice?

    Regarding the first question:
    - The contacts on my iPhone right now, due to the connection with iCloud, are numbers that came from the iCloud account (which, unfortunately is my husband's account - I didn't realize it).  Although we have some of the same people on our contacts, his, of course, contains his business contacts as well.  Before the connection, my contacts were my social contacts and my business contacts.  It looks like that not all my contacts from before the iCloud connection are there as some are missing and all of them have missing punctuation marks.  All my photos that were on the contacts of the people are missing as well.
    -  I will have to check and see if my contacts are on the iCloud account also.  Haven't checked that yet.
By the way, this all happened when I loaded the i06 update.  That's when it asked me if I wanted to store it on iCloud. And when I clicked on it, everything changed on my contacts.

  • New to MAC - trying to sync iphone and Mac Pro with imac

    Hi,
Just made the switch to Mac. Purchased my Mac Pro yesterday, loaded .Mac, and plugged in my iPhone to the computer. Followed the steps to Sync iCal and contacts from iPhone and although it is registering there is a phone and downloading photos, it is not syncing anything else.
The steps I took were System Preferences, .mac, and checked the relevant boxes. It indicates syncing is taking place but the calendar on iPhone and Mac Pro are not syncing.
Could anyone help with advice? SHould I be able to sync easily between the iPhone and the Mac Pro with .mac?

You use iTunes to sync an iPhone - not *.Mac Sync* or iSync.
*.Mac Sync* is for syncing between Macs, and iSync is for syncing third-party mobile phones and PDAs.
