2 ipod 3rd generations, 2 different problems

I have two iPod touches. One has a bad screen (I bought it off an old friend) but it wasnt a problem until awhile ago. The screen is not touch responding on most parts of the screen. I reset the device and it still only allows me to slighty touch the lower section of the screen. The second ipod however, DOESNT EVEN TURN ON!!! I connect it with the charger, it doesnt respond, on both the plug in and the USB chargers. I cant rset it because it doesnt turn on at all. It is DEAD. PLEASE HELP ME!!

It appears that the first iPod has either a bad digitizer or bad logic board.
For the second iPod:
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I don't want to sync what is on my iPod to my iPad. (I have a 32gb iPod but only 16gb on iPad. The iPod I use mostly for music.) I can't seem to add the films I have downloaded onto iPad to iTunes. If I could do that, I could erase them from iPad to create more storage.
    This is intensely confusing, sorry.

    Question.....
"I own an iPhone4, an iPod 3rd generation and an iPad 2. I use the same iTunes library but unfortunately synced iPad with a different computer before syncing to my own. Do I risk losing the films/apps I've downloaded onto my iPad if I sync with my iPod?"
    Answer.....
Yes you will lose the films that you downloaded to the iPad when you sync with your own iTunes unless you transfer the purchases into your own iTunes library. Were these movies that you purchased? If so, you might be able to download them again for free. Do you have multiple computers that you sync from or is this someone else's purchased content?
You can select whatever you want to sync to all of your devices in iTunes, you do not have to sync the same content to all device.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
    Fix for iphone Earphone Bug
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a hardware problem. If defective and not abused, Apple will exchange your iPod at no cost

  • IPod 3rd generation stuck on grey screen.

Hi, the other day I was listening to music when my iPod 3rd Generation flew out of my pocket (sweatpants) and dropped to the floor. It was fine after that but when i left it alone for about half an hour the blacklight turned off and my screen is now grey. It played music but i followed some tips and restored it so now no music is on it. It works fine if i put music back on it the only problem is the screen is grey. I have tried the "Toggle hold button then press Menu/And Center at the same time" and it doesn't change the grey screen. Help ?

If a full restore of the Nano did not resolve the display issue, it's most likely hardware related meaning you'll need to either take or send your iPod in for service.
Apple will do an out of warranty exchange for your iPod for the amount listed on this page.

Third party service centers are a bit cheaper, but not always reliable, so choose at your own risk.

But when I try to restore my shuffle here ; even that doesn't works ... Today and yesterday when I checked my friend's earphone of ipod - it was working on my shuffle and my earphone also working in his classic ...

  • How to put ipod 3rd generation on the disk mode manually?

how to put ipod 3rd generation on the disk mode manually?

I am having this problem as well. I've tried dozens of times at this point. I can produce the apple icon but when I release and press play+select it just reverts back to the red x. The red x is the whole reason I'm trying to get this into disk mode. I need to reset it but I can't until it is in disk mode. I've tried the flat surface, one finger etc etc but disk mode still eludes me. Any other thoughts?

  • Unknown Error (1418), iPod 3rd Generation help please!

So I bought a fantastic old school retro iPod 3rd Generation and I love it!
It plays fine, syncs music and all, but only through USB 2.0 (and doesn't charge!). It takes iTunes ages to recognize the iPod with Firewire. And I wish it would be quicker!
So I tried to restore it, only to get the (1418) Error. Don't worry I've read all the different forums, but still can't seem to find a solution because the fixes only seem to work on XP. Could someone please shed some light? I love the thing!
    Cheers!

    Hello shibby999955,
Iknow you mentioned that you have done quite a bit of research on it already, but have you had a chance to work through the troubleshooting solutions, provided in this Apple support document?

  • Ipod 3rd generation podcast sequence

I have an ipod 3rd generation. I have no problem at downloading and installing podcasts onto my ipod. What I do have a problem with is being able to get them to play in order. For instance I have a number of talks which are part 1, part 2, part 3, etc.... however when they are downloaded onto my ipod it insists on playing them back to front e.g. part 3, part 2, part 1 etc... can someone please assist me in how I can get them to play in order as I don't want to mess around with my ipod when I'm driving. Thanks

Oh, forgot about this. Navigate to the podcast menu. Highlight the name of the podcast. Don't press select, press play. This should play all of the podcasts in the correct order (or, at least it worked on the 3rd gen Nano with some version of the firmware).

  • My ipod 3rd generation touch wheel won't charge on my laptop..

I have an iPod 3rd Generation with touch wheel.
When I attach it to my laptop it will not charge and not only that, if I attach it to my laptop FULLY CHARGED the battery seems to drain in a few seconds and the the ipod goes dead.  This means that i can't add or remove any msic from it at all.
I've restarted it, switched cables, switched ports.  Nothing.  I have scoured the support pages but have found nothing as yet.  Any ideas, or does it go to the big Apple shop in the sky?
    Toby

I have the same iPod a 3rd generation iPod 15gb. That iPod is not supported to be charged through USB, only Firewire. It also looks like you have a battery problem and that can easily be replace my you or someone you know. Check out the site www.ifixit.com and you be able to find a new battery for like $15. the site will also show you how to take it apart.

  • IPod 3rd generation stuck on apple logo

Hello, recently I plugged my iPod 3rd generation (Touch wheel, 4 control buttons above it, no color display) into my computer with a 4th generation iPod touch cable. After that the iPod will not boot. It simply shows the apple logo, emits some sounds and freezes at boot logo. iTunes doesn't see it if I plug it in (Maybe because its a REALLY old USB...)
    Please help!
    Thanks.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • My iPod 3rd generation isn't updating my apps.

I just updated a few apps today (my iPod was connected to my computer with my USB cable and I was in Itunes, my iPod was recognized, and it was showing all the apps I have.)   Then a couple still said "update", so I clicked on update and they just said "will update" and nothing happened.  Why aren't they updating, when I just updated some other ones?  There are 3 that just sit there saying "will update" (Facebook, Weatherbug and Messenger).  I have not idea why it won't update, I never had a problem before.  I am in my iTues profile and it is showing all my apps in there, I even clicked on sync, it says it synced, but those apps are still not updated.  Anyone know  what the problem could be??  Thank you!
Also, when I turn on my iPod when not attached to the computer via USB, I go into the App Store, it shows the Updates button in the bottom right corner highlighted in blue, but when I hit it, nothing happens.  The page says all apps are up to date, but why is the blue update arrow highlight to download updates?

Ok, I think I know why those apps won't update.  I tried updating them from my iPod (instead of from my computer) and when I hit Install, it says "iPod current version requires iOS 7.0 or later, but you can download the last compatible version".  I have iOS version 6.1.6 on my Ipod 3rd generation (32GB).  So, my question is, can I download iOS 8 onto this iPod, or is it too old, making my iPod pretty much useless??
    Thanks!

  • I can´t sync my iPod 3rd Generation with iTunes library

Hello, I´ve been trying for a while to sync my iPod with my iTunes library on my PC. It does show up on Windows as a drive and iTunes seems to know there is a device plugged in but then a message appears: "iTunes could not connect to the iPod touch because an invalid response was received from the device" I´ve tried several solutions, including: restarting the iPod Service, restarting the Apple Mobile Device Service, emptying my Temp directory and restarting and changing my device´s Drive Letter. On rare occasions, when I give it another try, I manage to get the iPod recognized, but when I enter the iPod menu, the sync button appears grayed out or if I can click it and attempt to synce the iPod, it seems to happen in the computer, but no changes are made on the iPod. I´ve tried syncing only music and only "selected music and tracks" but no setting seems to be transmitted to the iPod. The iPod shows the "charging" icon but never the "syncing" icon. I hope somone can help me. I have also tried syncing over Wi-Fi, and in the iPod, I can see the Pc but it appears grayed out.
And, to my outrage, random songs have been dissapearing from the iPod randomly. It sounds weird but maybe it is because of iOS 5. I have an iPod 3rd Generation and iOS 5.1.1 (9B206). Both iTunes and my iPod say my software is up to date and maybe the iPod is too old for further updates but I only want to get my new iTunes songs into my iPod. Please somebody help me. Thanks very much!

If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.
