2 Ipods/1 account or separate accounts?

Is it possible to use one Itunes account to service two Ipod Touch's (each one requiring different content)? Alternatively, can I have 2 Itunes accounts using the same debit card? How would I do that?
My second child will shortly acquire her own Ipod and will not want the same stuff as her older brother but as I download - and pay for - their purchases, I'm confused on how to manage this.

Welcome to the discussions,
If you are using the same account for both, you can set up each device separately. iTunes will "remember" the settings for every added device. There will be separate backups as well.
If you use different accounts, you'll have to change the login every time you connect the other device.
In that case a second user account for your computer would be the better solution.

2 iPods, 2 accounts but same music files, Can I point both users to the same music files, or do I have to have a seperate copy on each user account?
Me and the wife both have an iPod, and Ive read there easier to manage if you use 2 user accounts.
However, can I store all my music MP3s in one place on the HDD, and just point each user account's iTunes to the one place?
Or do you have to have the music in each users folder?
Sorry Im brand new to Mac and an (ex) PC user
    cheers

  • How do I set up a second iPod Touch account on my computer?

How do I set up a second iPod Touch account on my computer? Am having trouble.

You seem to know alot, so I am contacting you regarding my query
I bought a second iPod touch for my daughter. My problem is that this second iPod is not being recognized as a device... therefore I cannot sync it or add any content to it. Do you know how I can add a second iPod to my iTunes so that I am able to sync it?
I have gone through all of the troubleshooting (restarting iPod, restarting computer, reseting iPod to factory default...etc). Can you please help me?

  • I am using a friend's iPod, whose account i signed out of, and signed in through my own. But whenever I'm trying to download an update or an app, it's still asking for the other account's password. Please help!!

That Apple ID is stored inside those applications. Leave them as is and ask your friend to do the updating.

  • Why did my ipod receive a song separate from the album that was downloaded

why did my ipod receive a  song separate fron the album that it was downloaded with?
i copied a cd using itunes

Dont have that problem but i have two tips:
1 Other ipod/iphone apps: they are often the problem, i had an alarm clock and that blocked the whole ipod app, so check if other apps dont use songs to wake up or anything else..
2 try to leave the ipod app trough the multitasking instead of pressing the home button?

  • HT1535 Once I have songs in mt ipod, How can I separate the songs into folders?

Once I have songs in my IPod, how can I separate them into folders such as favorites, etc.?

That sort of thing is best done in iTunes. And by "folders", I assume you mean Playlists.
In iTunes, you can create Playlists and then sync those to your iPod. The music will still be listed by artist, album etc,. but if you go into the Playlists menu, you will see the songs grouped by Playlists, according to your choices.
As you mentioned favourites; on your iPod you can give a song a star rating, from one to five stars. It's possible to create a Smart Playlist in iTunes which will automatically add (for example) three, four and five star rated songs to a Playlist, but not the songs with no rating or just one or two stars.
So if you were listening to a song and decided there and then to give it a four-star rating, then at the next Sync with your iTunes Library, that song would be added to your Smart Playlist which is then also included on the iPod. (In theory, it should go into that Playlist on your iPod without connecting to your iTunes Library, but that doesn't always work.)

  • How can I register/sync my iPod Nano to two separate iTunes accounts?

I have an iTunes account and so does my husband.  Being they are two separate accounts, how can I sync my device to both accounts?  Also being new to Apple devices, how can I move a purchased song from an iPad Mini to my Nano?

    1. Click here and follow the instructions.
    2. Sync the iPod nano with an iTunes library containing it. If none does, follow the instructions here or here.

  • 2 iPods, 1 PC, want separate accounts

I have two iPods connected to 1 computer. I don't want to share the music with my daugher. Is there a way to create 2 separate accounts or separate the 2 iPods into 2 different accounts so we don't have to check and uncheck music when updating our iPods? Thank

The easiest thing to do would be create a computer user account for your daughter. That way, she'll have her own profile, desktop, favorites, and iPOD configuration.

  • Setting up 2 ipods/itunes accounts on one computer

I have an ipod and an itunes account. My friend recently received an ipod, but her computer is dead and will not be getting a new one for a while. Can she use my computer to set up a SEPERATE itunes? I am sure she can not use my music and such, and that is fine. She just needs a computer to use her ipod. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

*Can she use my computer to set up a SEPERATE itunes?*
Set up a new Windows User account on your PC for your friend. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here:

  • 2 users 2 iPods 2 accounts. How?

I own a iPod and have which I run on my PC (XP). I have just bought my girlfriend one and she wants to have a separate iTunes library. I do not have sufficient space on my c drive for 2 libraries, but have a second drive on which I have cleared sufficient space. I thought that I could load up a second iTunes and during installation would be given the option of loading in another area (my second drive), but no it defaults to C drive. Is there any thing I can do, apart from buying a larger hard drive?

An iPad can be synched to one iTunes library only, so you'll have to get your content into a single iTunes library which will be the one you'll always need to use to sync the iPad. There should be no problems with content purchased from multiple iTunes Store accounts, though; you just need to have the "master" iTunes library authorized to both iTunes Store accounts.
    Regards.

  • New iPod + account not showing up on a computer that was previously used with a DIFFERENT iPod and account

I'm very new to all things Apple, but not a computer/tech newbie...it's just that all my experience and knowledge has been aquired with Windows and Android. I received an iPod Touch 5th gen as a Xmas gift, and I'm (mostly) enjoying it...but I've hit the following problem:
About a year ago, a friend used iTunes on my computer (WinXP Pro) using HIS account/Apple ID, and connected HIS iPod to my PC to "sync" (I'm not sure what he was trying to accomplish, but my computer and his iPod were definitely conected via cable). He no longer needs to use my computer to access iTunes.
So, now I want to use MY iPod and iTunes account with the same computer that he used. My friend and I "authorized" my computer using my Apple ID, DE-authorized it using his, we signed him out, signed me in, (not necessarily n that order, heheh). BUT... in my iTunes library still show HIS apps, HIS books, and his iTunes-U courses. None of my apps/books/courses etc. appear in iTunes on my computer. (They ARE all on my iPod). I tried un-installing iTunes and re-installing the latest version, and that did not solve the problem.
I have heard or read, somewhere, that if I connect my iPod to a compter that has someone else's iTunes account on it, my iPod could be un-intentionally "sync'd" to that persons account, and I would lose my apps/music/etc and wind up with the other persons "stuff" on my device (I'm sure there are some subtleties to that that I'm clueless about). My hunch is that the solution lies somewhere in connecting MY new iPod to my computer, but I'm afraid of losing what I've already put on my iPod and/or messing up my friend's devices.
I appreciated you taking the time to read this; I'm hopeful the solution is simple...thanks!

Hi lllaass, thanks for your reply. Here are my results, and related follow-up questions, so far:
    lllaass wrote:
    - Make sure your computer is authorized for your iTunes account.
OK, done, AND DE-authorized for his account (tried this even before I posted).
    lllaass wrote:
    - You said your friend no longer uses your computer. Therefore just delete his media *apps, music etc) for the computer
When I highlight one of his apps (for example) and select DELETE, a pop-up window opens, warning me that the app will ALSO be deleted from any device "which syncronizes with your iTunes library". How can I be certain that this is not affecting his stuff? Is that ONLY possible if he connects one of his devices to my computer via cable? Is there NO chance that it happens via wi-fi (we share the same wi-fi connection regularly), or even via the cloud?
    lllaass wrote:
    - Redownlod your media to your iTunes library.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I followed the instructions in the link above (computer authorized, signed in under my account, & "Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases" enabled in iTunes preferences by going to iTunes > Preferences under the Store tab).  However,  none of MY "purchases" (all free apps, books, etc, so far) show up in the library...only my friend's. For what it's worth, when I try to open any of his books, a pop-up opens telling me that the book "can't be viewed using this computer. You can view this book using iBooks on your iOS device".
    Illaass wrote:
-Then just sync to as necessary to your iPod.
    - However, yo may have to backup the iPod to your computer and restore from that backup if the iPod sees the computer/library as a new iTunes library. The instructions are here:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
With iTunes 11 you may have to do a Control+B to show the Menu bar and a Control+S to show the Sidebar.
I have not tried these steps, given the status of the situation being unchanged so far.
Thanks again Illaass, hopefully there is another approach to try.

  • How do i sync an old Ipod nano account to a new one?

My husband has an iPod Nano. He used to have it set up on an old computer linked to an email address that is now no longer in opperation. We have now put ITunes onto a new computer and he has created a new Itunes account under a new email address. He has now burned some CD's onto the account (under the new email address) however we can't work out how to put these songs onto his ipod nano?
We plug his ipod in, and when we click on the device it shows all of his old songs on his nano, but we can't get the old and new songs to sync, or at least the new songs onto his nano and override his old songs.
    Can anyone help??

Turn on computer, open itunes, connect ipod, select what you want, sync

  • Do I have to create a new account for my iPhone, or can I use my iPod Touch account?

I have an iPod Touch 32GB which I have an iTunes account for, & I need to know whether I have to create a new iTunes account for my new iPhone 4 16GB, or whether I can use the other one for. Would syncing cause problems?

You don't need another iTunes account for your iPhone.  You can link as many iDevices to your account as you wish.  Each device will have its own name/identity and you can sync different apps/music/media to each.

  • How can I reactivate my old (2008) ipod shuffle account?

I received my iPod shuffle as a gift and bought a life time subscription but then moved to the other side of the country with the id and password safe in my mother-in-laws attic.  Seven years later, with the documentation, I tried to log in to my old account and, perhaps not surprisingly given zero activity, I can't access it.  Now I find that not only is my old id and password invalid but the system doesn't even recognize the Serial No. of my iPod shuffle and so I can't get Apple to call me.  thoughts anyone?

    Hello jlfromcorona,
Use the manual method of copying all the music from your iPod Classic, to your new Mac.  See this article for instructions.
