2 IPODS-1 COMPUTER-HELP

How do I get songs I just purchased synced to my IPOD when they appear to have gone into my DH Library, even though I purchased them with my account info and my ipod was connected..........what a mess.......I tried setting up a seperate library, but I'm not seeing the songs at all.

There are two ways to do this, the simplest is for each of you to have your own Windows User account. That way you simply log in under your own name and connect to your own iTunes folder. You can also share a single account. This article explains the two methods: "How to use multiple iPods with one computer" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432

  • Multiple ipods, one computer: HELP!!

We have bought two ipod nanos for our family. I had used the CD to download one, and then used the 2nd CD that came with the 2nd ipod to download the 2nd nano. before installing the 2nd ipod, the computer required me to uninstall the first one. Did I even need to install the software for the 2nd ipod if I had already installed the software for the first one? How do you get two ipods set up on one computer?!?!

ITunes can handle many iPods! The only downside of sharing the same iTunes music library, is if both persons have dramatically different musical tastes, they may become frustrated when they have to listen to the other person's music.
This is one of the reasons to use playlists, you can configure each person's iPod nano to sync up to specific playlists of music that each specific person likes to listen to, this way two people get dramatically different content on their iPods without having to manually move music back and forth to their iPods!
To configure the iPods, attach an iPod to the computer, select preferences and select the iPod tab. In the music subtab, select the specific playlists you want the iPod to draw its music from. Repeat for the second iPod and choose the appropriate playlists for that person's taste.
If you are also going to display photos on your nano, realize that the iPod loads music first, photos second. If the music playlists exceed the capacity of the nano, it will only load music. To help control this, you can put size limits on your larger playlists to make sure that there is still room on your nano for photos...
welcome to the power of iTunes & iPod!

  • MAJOR iPod/iTunes/Computer Help Needed

Ok heres the problem. I get a virus on my comp awhile back, so i have to System Recovery on my comp. Iv had viruses and done this system recovery to my comp many times. And every time i get it working after the system recovery my iTunes wont work, also meaning the iPod cant get hooked up and upload music, it gives me the whole "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. sorry for the inconvenience" crap.
Iv had this problem many times before, and it usually takes me awhile of just doing random **** for it to work, but lately iv had diff. **** going on so i couldnt work on it, but i tried earlier today to fix it.
I always remembered downloading a new iTunes from Apple.com, and after doing some **** installing that and it working, just having to update/install the iPod.
Thing is i cant remember all i did to get the new iTunes to install. Right now i have tried deleting all the "corrupt" iTunes files & stuff, and installing the new iTunes, but no luck, still not working.
If anybody can help it would be great, if u need to ask me a question about it, hit me on a PM.
    thanks alot for any help.

For your itunes folder 'You' are the owner.
It should read: 'Owner: YourLoginname'. If it's not, click on the little padlock symbol and change it to the name you use to log in.
You normaly don't have to change ownership at 'Group' (which at my computer says 'staff') and 'Others', but you can change it to 'Read & Write'.
Below 'Others' (just above the 'Comments:' pane) there should be a button 'Apply to enclosed items...'

  • More hard drive space on iPod than Computer, Help!

I have more hard drive space on my iPod than I do on my computer (I have a very old computer). Is there any possible way that I could transfer songs and videos onto my iPod and then be able to delete them from my computer, in order to make more space for new songs and videos?
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you.

    Yes, you can do this.
With the iPod docked, you to preferences in iTunes and set the iPod to be updated manually. That way, it won't remove anything on the iPod unless you tell it to.
Then load as many CDs/Tunes/videos as you can onto your computer and manually copy them to the iPod. When done, you can delete those items without affecting the iPod and thus free up the space for the next load. Repeat as often as necessary.
If you left the iPod set to automatically update, each time you deleted the tunes from the PC, it would delete them from the iPod.
One thing you need to consider though is that if your music is only on the iPod, you'll loose everything if the iPod has a problem that either requires it to be replaced or reinitialized. This doesn't happen often, but it could happn. You should therefore ensure you've got a backup copy of everything (ie, the original CDs or that you burn copies of everything before you delete them.

  • New User!!!  2 iPods, one computer HELP

I am new to the iPod. I bought one for each of my kids. They both want different songs on their iPods. How do I create two different accounts on iTunes? Please help me!

actually creating 2 different accounts isn't necessary unless you want them to purchase their own music with their own money. not sure if that was the case, so I'll go with the easier method:
open iTunes, click on My Library (left hand side of the screen), select Edit>Preferences>click the iPod tab on top & select "Manually update songs" & click OK.
so now, when they want to put tracks on their iPods, they just connect the cable, go to the library and drag which songs they want onto the iPod icon on the left hand side (under the My Library icon). if they buy from iTunes, the tracks they purchase will be automatically put into the library.
the reason for all of this is that if iTunes automatically updated both iPods, all songs that are in the library would be sent to the iPod, and they would have to weed out the ones they don't want. hopefully this should make it easier than managing 2 separate accounts.

There's an answer to your question but first it's time for a little lecture - if it makes a difference, I don't feel any better about this than you do. ; - )
I hope you take this unfortunate situation as an opportunity to learn a very important lesson: Back up your iTunes library as soon as you can after resolving this situation because right now you are only one glitch of your iPod away from losing your music entirely.
Many people come to the Discussions having lost their music in just such situations and, believe me, it's not a happy time for anyone.
If you place any importance on your playlists and the data they depend on, make sure to include the iTunes Library files in your back-up regimen as well.
Anyways, that's the lecture. The answer to your problem should be found in Zevoneer's post .
Good Luck! But once you have the music back on your computer, remember:
Your music is valuable - please back it up!

  • Itunes Library was erased from my computer -Ipod synced and HELP!

Sorry - I am a brand newbie to iPod.
I recently got my 'pod. I loaded it up with a zillion mp3 files, and more, including videos I coverted from my Dvds and some videos I bought through iTunes.
    All was well for weeks.
THEN - my computer crashed, and my computer tanked, taking my itunes library with it. After getting the computer going again, I reinstalled itunes.
I had the mp3s backed up (most of them anyway) on disks. I loaded some of them back into the library, and tried to sync. First thing - my ipod HAD been named "Kerin's ipo"
Now it just showed as a drive letter "E". I loaded some files in the library, and synced. My ipod is set to manually update. I don't know how it happened, but it seems to have uploaded the new library control files or something?
This is the thing - the ipod still shows pretty "full." I had 25 gigs of teh 30 gigs free. It still showed only 5 gigs free.
When I show the "hidden" files, and look in the music directory, I see LOTS of files - but they all have funky names like XYZAV.mp3. When my mouse hovers over them, they show info that tells me the 'real' name of the file, such as "get info" might include. But the files are in no logical order. The videos are all mixed in and songs from one playlist or album are scattered over all the many folders.
Further, the new files don't seem to be actually in there. I DID see all the new files in the music and song list - but they wouldn't play - when I went to song view and started to play, it just loaded all the song names one after the other, but never played a note.
After erasing all the (i was afraid corrupt) music files and syncing again, the song folder is now empty again.
However - as mentioned before, the properties in My Computer list the ipod as nearly full still.
    My questions:
    a) how do I rename my ipod (not even sure how i did it - had something to do with the first time I connected the ipod to itunes?). I don't want it named "E" I want Kerin's iPo back. When I connect it as a disk, btw, it is still named that. But in iTunes it just shows as "E".
    b) How do I get to view my old directory structure and songs again? they are obviously still there!
    c) I have software (I've tried two diiferent ones - which both seemed to work ok before all this happened - Share Pod and another) which would let me get my unprotected songs BACK off the ipod, if only I could see the old directory from my ipod! But right now, neither of the programs seem to see the files that are clearly there and playable in the hidden folders. How do I get these files visible to the sharepod software? I assume this means I need a directory file or something for them to work from?
Can anyone help me sort this all out? I am not sure where to start, even for so simple a thing as making my ipod name show up again, and why won't it play the new files, let alone, why does it still show completely full?
If it were empty, I guess I could start from scratch - but there are things not backed up anywhere else yet, that I'd REALLY like to have back before I try completely brainwashing the pod and starting from ground zero. Also, I spent a LOT of time loading 25 gigs of stuff on there - I'd rather not have to do that all again - if there is some way to recover what is on there already, I'd love that option.
    Please help!
Thanks in advance to all the marvelous people who help each other here. I have been reading through these forums for hours and don't see answers to this situation - maybe it's so obvious, that's why no one has bothered - but I didn't see it in the online manuals, or here in the forums... maybe i'm searching in the wrong place? If someone can direct me to answers, I'll be MOST grateful!
PS: I'm not computer illiterate - just ipod dumb! Just got this darn thingie!

    a) See: How to rename your iPod.
b & c) If you can still the view hidden files, see this Music from iPod to computer.
"I see LOTS of files - but they all have funky names like XYZAV.mp3"
That's normal. When those files are back in iTunes they'll have the correct names.
Once the files are back to your computer (and only then), you should restore your iPod. It would appear that the hard drive has become corrupt and unreadable.

the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer. (when putting ipod into mac) help,. now have no music on my ipod. how do i sort this out?

    - Verify the file and disk formats on your camcorder and on your friend computer whether they support what you want to do. Also, if you are using a specific application to do the task, you may need to verify an application whether it supports the file format (e.g. MPEG4, Apple Intermediate Codec).
    - Verify the device cable type whether Mac OS X 10.4.x supports.
    - Verify the device compatibility with Mac OS X 10.4.x.
    - Check an available firmware or driver for the camcorder that has developed after Mac OS X 10.4.4.
    - Try diagnosing and repairing local hard disk and camcorder's drive directory.
    - Verify disks permissions issue.
    - Verify whether the disk is TOO warm or cold to read.
    - If every troubleshooting does not solve the issue, consider to reformat the camcorder drive.

i restored my ipod touch .bt again it display as"ipod is disabled.connect to itunes'wht shall i do nw.i wanna get it back.i restored nt in my computer.help me to solve this problem !!!

You have to restore the device within iTunes. You want to use the same computer that you always sync with so that you can restore your app data and settings. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the iPod.
Take special note of the article about using recovery mode. Many times, that is the only way to bypass the pass code and restore the device.
IOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen

If you cannot restore that way, you may have to use recovery mode.
