2 iPods, 1 PC, same music wanted on both iPods

I've an old brick 60GB iPod for myself and I've just bought a new nano for my wife. We both like the same music and am frightened of connecting the new nano to the PC in case it wipes the music from iTunes. Any advice on how I can get the same music onto both iPods please? Stephen

Don't worry. it's not going to clear your itunes music out of the application. Itunes doesn't even save the music in the application. Check your My Music folder. it's ALL in there. So basically. connect your wife's ipod. it wont erase you're library off your H/D.

i   have an ipod touch linked to laptop, i now want to add another ipod touch how do i do it using same email etc, but dont want the same apps etc as the first ipod. as it is now i have exactly the same stuff on both ipods. please help.

It's a snap.  Each device has its own name.  If iTunes does not assign unique names for the two iPods, change one of the names yourself.  You can see both my iPad and my iPod simultaneously on my iTunes because I sync wirelessly.
Simply configure the sync characteristics for each device separately.  The iTunes software will know the one with which it's communicating.

  • I have synced my new ipod but no music is stored on ipod but is when the ipod is connected to itunes

    Hi
I have transferred cds to itunes and followed instructions to sync ipod. It went through a long process syncing music to devise then said it was completed however no music is on the ipod even though when the ipod is connected to itunes when you open up the ipod from the menu options on itunes and click on music all of the music is there. When connected it also says used and free space and the used space correlates to the music downloaded.
If you try to re-sync is tries to synch, disconnects and then an error message appears the ipod "Emma's iPod" cannot be synced. The required disc cannot be found.
I have tried re-starting it and restoring. I'm now ready to throw the thing out of the window - can anyone help so that I don't waste £200!! I wonder if it is faulty?
Thanks to anyone who is able to reply

  • Calling all iPod Classic owner who wants to use iPod Camera Connector

Dear All Honoured iPod Classic users a.k.a Photo Enthusiats,
Good day. I have recently bought an iPod Classic and iPod Camera Connector. As many of us may be into photography. I believe you may agree with me, it is more expensive to buy CF Card especially when you travelling on holiday or assignment. Moreover 1x 8GB CF card is never enough.
It is troublesome to bring your laptop together when you are travelling. So the best option to transfer all your photos from the camera is to use an iPod Classis and Camera Connector. This helps you to continue shooting without worrying running out of CF card for your next day shooting.
Currently iPod Classic has firmware v1.0.3 but iPod Camera Connector only works for iPod v.1.1 and above. So, in conclusion ... i urge every member here to send in their feedback to Apple ... logon to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html , so that Apple will act on it sooner rather than we play wait and see game.
So, logon today and send in your feedback. Who knows, tomorrow we will have the iPod Classic firmware updates that allow us to use iPod Camera Connector and this will solve our problem and save our money in CF card.
    Cheers! Happy New Year.

    Hi Josh,
Interesting web site. I holiday in the UK (my passport ran out in '91 and I haven't felt the need to replace it yet) and off to Shropshire in September.
Lovely, the UK is actually a surprisingly excellent place to retreat to, despite the occasional weather issues.

I had looked at the Zeppelin but it is a tad too pricey. I began thinking of spending around £50 - £60 but now looking at around £250 for the [Avanti|http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/01/13/reviewdab_radio_ipod_dock_pure_avantiflow>. It is a little too large to be portable but it will fit in the car to be taken to our cottage holidays and has an amazing range of features and a sub woofer in the base as you can see from the review.
Yes, if you have the money, the B&W is great, but as I said, it's only a speaker.

The Zeppelin may be an excellent speaker but being that much more expensive and also nothing more than a speaker I am still with the Avanti at this point - we often like to listen to the local radio stations when away. I will look at the Chronos though and other PURE products.
All of the PURE products are excellent, good luck finding one to suit your needs!

  • I have an old ipod with lots of music on it.  I also have a new iphone with different music on it.  I want both devices to have the same music etc, without losing anything.  How do I do this?? Thanks

I have a ipod touch that has lots of music on it.  I recently got a new iphone and a new mac.  I would like my new phone to have the same music as my old ipod without losing anything off of either device.  Is there a way to do this??

The following User Tip may help you.
Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Can music already on an ipod be added to a new iTunes library ?

Hi Everyone - I recently purchased a laptop but have a dilemma with my iTunes libraries and iPods. My Nano was synched to my iTunes library on desktop PC, then I synched new classic iPod to same library, therefore both iPods had same music on them. I then set up iTunes on laptop and added some new music into the new library but then tried to merge Classic iPod (with old music) with new music in new library, but all it would allow was to synch them. This caused the problem I need help with as when synching, old music is erased and replaced with new music.
Is there any way of adding old music on an iPod to a second (new) iTunes library on a different computer ??
If there is, can you tell me step by step how to, as I'm still a novice with these things !!
    Many thanks,
    SC

This is copied from another thread. I think it is pretty clear. Here is the link to the thread as well. You will need to do this for each device if they all have different content on them.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
If you have more questions, post back.

  • Syncing music from a previous IPOD

I have music in a library on an Itunes account from my previous IPOD nano. I want that same music on my new IPOD Touch. Is it possible to transfer those songs to my IPOD touch? Have been trying and doesn't seem to work. Don't want to have to go through all the cd's again....

Thanks for the question. If you have purchases you wish to transfer to iTunes on a new computer, see this article:

  • HT1495 Can I add music from one iPod to another without losing music on the first ipod

Looking for a way to add music from one iPod to another iPod without losing music on the first iPod ... Please help

iPods are not backups or data transfer tools.
Move the music from the computer where it exists to the computer where you want it.
Then sync the music to the iPod.

  • HT1473 How do I delete content that I no longer want from my iPod?

How do you delete content from Ipod nano?

Same way you ut it there.  The sync process.
Open itunes, connect ipod, select what you want on the ipod, sync.

  • Running iTunes on XP and OSX using same music folder?

    Hi,
I'm just starting to use OSX and XP in almost equal amounts after using XP on my MBP almost exclusively for over a year. The big difficulty at the moment is with the fact that my music is all on my XP partition (NTFS) and therefore not set up under OSX in iTunes.
I was wondering if anyone has any experience setting up iTunes under both OS'es to point to the same music? Should I set up NTFS3G and just use iTunes under OSX as normal? Or if that is too risky, should I just set up iTunes in OSX to point to the music in read-only mode?
Any help with this much appreciated, as I really do not want to screw up my music collection, which at the moment stretches into the 50GB+ range.

Well as a user similar to you, i store all my music in OSX partition and iTunes point to the same music directory in both OSes. Of course, for Windows i use MacDrive. So far no problems occured for me. But as an advice just allow one instance of iTunes (Windows version in my case) to organize music folder, otherwise sometimes it messes things up.
I do not think it will create a problem in your case. Of course the safest method is to use an external disk with FAT partition.

  • I just purchased a new ipod touch so now I have two. I do not want the second ipod touch to sync the same as the old ipod touch - 2 people with 2 different music preferences. How do I keep them separate.

I just purchased a new ipod touch so now I have two. I do not want the second ipod touch to sync the same as the old ipod touch - 2 people with 2 different music preferences. How do I keep them separate.

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • I have two itunes accounts on two different computers, can i merge the accounts so i can then have the same music on both ipod and iphone?

i have two itunes accounts one for each of my two computers, can i merge them so that i can have the same music on my ipod and iphone,
it is all so confusing i need help!!!

You can't currently merge accounts and the content will remain tied to the account that originally bought/downloaded it, though you can have more than one account authorised on the same computer's iTunes via Store > Authorise This Computer. As only one account can be actually logged in at a time (Store > Sign In / Sign Out) for purchasing or re-downloading/viewing past purchases, you may want to use just the one account for future purchases.

  • Two Ipods using the same PC want different Music Librarys

I recently bought an Ipod for me and my roommate. We Have one PC that we use for Itunes. We have two different accounts for Itunes but when I switch accounts it's the same music library. If my roommate wants to plug in her Ipod and access her own music library on the same PC, how do I go about doing that? In other words, when she plugs her Ipod in, how do I avoid having my library uploaded to her Ipod?

There are a couple of ways to do this.
Here is an article from the apple support website that might help.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432
method 1 works if you do not mind multiple logins
    method 2 is the easiest.
method 3 works if you do not mind restarting itunes.
    Hope this helps.
