2 ipods, 2 different likes in music 1 itunes......help!

My brother and I both have IPODS (video) and both of us listen to extremely different types of music but everytime we connect to itunes we end up with each others music. is there anyway to set up 2 different accounts or something?

OK, I'm not sure this will work for you, but it's worth a try.
I don't have a Windows machine, but I'm sure you can create a different user account, like I can on my Mac.
Create a different user account for you or your brother. Sign into that new account and open iTunes. When I do this, iTunes is completely brand new in the new user’s account. Empty and ready to start fresh.
Then, when you just need to be sure that you are logged into the right user account when you connect you iPod.
Now, you will probably need to get some help from a Windows user if you don’t know how to do this on a Windows machine. I have a Mac, so I know how to do it on my machine, but not yours.
Please let me know how this works for you. I’m sure others would really be interested too!

  • IPod won't play purchased music from iTunes

I cannot figure out why my iPod mini skips over purchased music from iTunes. I looked at the files and they are .mp4 & there is a little lock symbol on the file. Someone help! I have already dowloaded the latest updates and nothing has changed...

I have the same problem as others mentioned here. I just updated my mini to 1.4, and iTunes to 6.0. Just purchased an album and went to play it and all the songs were just skipped over by my mini. Then checked and the same happens for all purchased music.
I then check in iTunes and everything plays fine there. Then uploaded the songs to my 40GB and everything plays fine on the 40GB. I recently updated the 40GB to the latest firmware as well.
The mini plays all other music just fine.

  • 2 people with different taste of music, using ITunes on one computer.

How do two people with two different I-pod devices use ITunes on the same computer without seeing the other persons song library?
Story: Our house has one computer. Mom has a Nano and likes older people music; kid has I-pod Touch and likes young kids music. When I import my music CD's, the songs get mixed in with my kids music and auto sync puts all our music on both devices. ( I would like to Auto sync my device because I am not real good with computers and auto sync'ing would be easier; I think ). If I created 2 different Library files, how would I get the auto sync for my Nano to sync with my library?

    Hi nanonewbee,
Better to create separate playlists and then (bite the bullet - this is a lot easier than trying to create a second library)....plug in one of the devices. Click on the device and when the "device Profile" screen appears:
    - Click on the Music tab
    - Check the "Sync Music" option
    - Check the "Selected playlists, albums, artists, and genres button
A list of your Playlists will appear in the box below. Check only the playlist you want for that device.
Smart Playlists are easier because you can set them up to automatically put new music into the correct playlist. But they are a bit more involved than regular playlists.
For regular Playlists, just drag and drop the music you want in it from the library to the playlist on the sidebar.
    Cheers,

  • Broken ipod-how do i get music on itunes?

My ipod touch fell, now the screen's broken. The touchscreen doesn't work at all, nor can i see anything(screen's black/blank).
Now i was wondering if there's a way to put my music from my ipod into itunes, because not all of it is on my mac..
I found some extractor utilities, however they don't work because my ipod is locked with a passcode (which i can't enter because of the broken screen).. So, is there any way of avoiding a restore and getting the music onto itunes?
    Thanks

If itunes can see it, and you purchased the music from the itunes store, you can get it. Connect it to itunes, right click on your device, and select Transfer Purchases. I think that will work even though it's locked because it is the last computer it syn'd with.
[This support article|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212] says: If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
You don't want to restore it, but I'm wondering if that means you will at least be able to transfer purchases. I've never had to deal with passcode issues myself so maybe someone else will know for sure, but you could try it and see.

  • Ipod nano not accepting synced music from itunes

Somehow my music erased from my ipod during my last charge. Now when syncing my music from itunes the music is not going on to the ipod. Any answers out there?

Try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • I have to WIPE iPod every time I add music to iTunes!

Hi. I seem to have everyone's problem at once.
I've just upgraded to an 80Gb Video iPod after filling up my old 20Gb click-wheel model, which still works as wonderfully as the day I bought it over 4 years ago. My new model is, however, driving me crazy! On first plugging it in, I got the Unknown error -48 that others have described, and was told that I couldn't sync. I updated, I restored, I synced again. Fine - the music was there even though iTunes was still telling me that I had the -48 error. However, every time I add a CD to my iTunes collection and then plug in my iPod, I find that the music is not added. What's more, I'm told that my iPod is synced with another iTunes library and that if I want to sync with this one it will erase all data and start over - this takes several hours and is totally unacceptable.
I also get the flashing 'do not disconnect' sign permanently whenever connected, even if there's nothing being transferred.
Weirdly, if I click on the iPod in my 'Devices' list in iTunes, I find all the menu options changed and grayed out. If I try and select, say, 'sync music' or 'sync movies' I get a message asking me if I really want to do that, since "all existing content on the iPod will be removed and replaced with the contents of your iTunes Library".
I'm a humble Apple fan who's always used Apple and is used to intuitive devices. This experience is demoralising and I'm regretting my expensive and frustrating purchase even after 1 week. Please can someone help? Do I have to send this device back to Apple?

At the moment there seems to be no permanent fix for error -48. The Apple fix of erasing the iPod with Disk Utility and restoring with iTunes that is mentioned in various posts appears to work for some and not others. This is the workaround I'm currently using until a reliable fix comes along. Give it a try and it may help with the secondary problems you are also experiencing.
Set up iTunes "not" to open when you connect the iPod.
Enable Disk Use on the iPod
Eject the iPod and shut down iTunes
Reconnect the iPod and open Disk Utility
Click on your iPod in the Utility pane and choose Repair Disk which will find and fix a number of errors.
Close Disk Utility and open iTunes and your iPod should connect and update as usual.
Keep the settings above and each time you connect the iPod to update it run Disk Utility repair as above before opening iTunes. It's far from being a acceptable answer but until a permanent one comes along I've found that it works for me.

  • Daughter IPOD Touch 4th lost all music from itunes, Itunes suggested to restore to factory settings. Have done so last few days, all showing 20 hours to restore then times out and starts back to 20 hours again. Will not sync at all. HELP

IPOD TOUCH(4th gen) MUSIC DISPLAY has wiped out all my music. The music I have is all still on ITUNES but will NOT SYNC. When attempted a displayes message appeared- Cannot read contents of IPOD (my IPOD name), go to Summary tab to Restore to factory settings. When I click OK it takes me to a CLICK on RESTORE OPTION, which I did. Then it explains that I will lose all APPS, etc.. to restore. I clicked OK again and it shows my IPOD is Downloading Software Update. The only thing being it has done this for 3 days now. It starts by stating will take 20 hours, goes down to 12 or 10 and prompts OUT and when I redo the thing again it starts back up at 20 hours but continually times out. *Also, in case it matters ,the SYNC option on my IPOD in ITUNES is Highlighted as to where I cannot use that option. Everytime I start it back up I get the same message (Cannot read contents of IPOD, go to Summary Tab,etc..) Help.

  • IPod won't sync all music to iTunes

I recently got a new Macbook Pro and needed to transfer over all of my music on iTunes from my old laptop. My iPod Touch has enough space to hold my entire iTunes library, so I synced it with the iTunes library on my old laptop, got everything onto it, and then synced it with my new Macbook Pro.
However, the iTunes on my Mac refuses to sync any music from my iPod that was not purchased from the iTunes store at some point. 75% of my music is from CDs and so 75% of my music will not transfer from my iPod to my iTunes.
I can't adjust anything on the tab on iTunes for syncing all music/entire library because I get a message saying if I do this all of the content on my iPod will be erased and replaced with what is currently in iTunes, which is barely anything.
All I've ever done is fought with iTunes every single time I try to do anything significant with it and I'm sick of it. I don't understand why iTunes won't simply take all the music from my iPod and put it into the library. That's all I want.
Please, can anyone help me with this?

OK after a long night I think I have answered my own question. I hope this helps others who may have experienced the same level of frustration I have.
If your music won't download from iTunes to your iPod because it is not 'authorised' see if this helps.
Go to the album or song that is not 'authorising'. Select it and push play. It should ask you for authorisation or a username and password. Put in your username and password, it should then go to iTunes store and it will now be authorised.
Be careful not to make the same mistake that I made and have multiple iTunes Store accounts. Mainly because I think it creates these problems on transfer of your library and secondly because you may not remember the password. If you forget the password, then simply get iTunes store to resend it. The only problem may be if your email account no longer exists. Mine does, so not sure what happens if it doesn't.
This in itself may not fix the problem either. I noticed on the left hand side of the music library, met to the song names etc, the '!" symbol in the column. This will also prevent it copying to your iPod. I am not technical, but it seems it lost the file path in transfer. Just double click the song and it will ask you if you want to find the path. Click yes and then search through iTunes library until you find the song. Double click the song and bingo you should now be able to transfer the music.
It took less time for me to finish by Business Degree, but its the only way I found to get around all the authorisation problems
    Hope this helps

  • My iPod wont open up my music from iTunes. Has anyone else had this problem?

My iPod Itouch won't up my music on iTunes. It started happening around the time I updated my iPad to io7 although not sure if this is connected to my problem with my iPod. Has anyone got any ideas on ow to fix this?

If you mean that the iPod does not appear in iTunes:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
    or
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
You need to ensure that you have iTunes 11.1 installed on the computer.

  • Ipod classic won't download music into itunes

When I attach my ipod classic to my computer/itunes, it won't allow me to transfer the music or playlists from my ipod to itunes. However, it allows my itouch to transfer music into itunes.

Your iPod Classic and your iTunes are both functioning normally. You can sync music, videos etc into your iPod Classic from iTunes (as you are) however you cannot do the opposite as you want to do.
There are third party software out there which can make this possible. Do a search on Google and you will run into that third party software.

  • Since the update, i cant put my music on itunes, help pls

    (Windows 7 to itunes)
Hi, someone can help me ? i cant 'slide' my music in itunes, but before the update it was ok. Dont understand...

I have the same problem. The majority of the music on my hard drive goes into my library fine, but there are a few files that are legit .mp3s that won't. I try to drag, I try to add the file directly in the menu and it doesn't show up in iTunes. I tried to make a copy of the file and rename it - nothing. It is not set up as a read only file.
I am running Windows XP (for now until I can afford that Powerbook ;)). iTunes is version 6.0.1.3.
I even try to play the file in iTunes directly from my hard drive and it won't play. It will play in Winamp though. It is very odd and slowly driving me insane!

  • My ipod doen't like classical music!!!

i have quite a variety of music on my ipod. of all the different genres, whenever i try to play any classical albums/artists, the songs always show up as "1 of 1". this is regardless of whether i am actually playing one particular song, or an entire album. the one song will play, and then returns to the menu. i have gone under 'info' and changed the track numbers, disc numbers, i've even tried changing the genre category in an attempt to 'trick' the ipod to play complete albums/artists, and nothing works. this is the only genre this happens to. any ideas? ...anyone? thanks. (it did this with my old laptop, as well as my new imac)

When I try to sync, iTunes doesn't open automatically as it is set to do.
And when I open iTunes, I only see the icon of the IPod on the left.
The computer has always synced in the past but lately I have not been able to add any songs manually to my iPod.

It said it was already being used by other device. Is there a way to use the same email for all so I am the onein control of purchaes.....

Oldes has 4g others have 5g.

Yes. Just use the same account on all the devices.
To allow them ot Message and Facetime one another
MacMost Now 653: Setting Up Multiple iOS Devices For Messages and FaceTime
If you want them to have separate contacts and Calendars and some other things
Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
    Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
    Settings>FaceTime
    Settings>GameCenter
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.
