2 Ipods - & - 2 Laptops (windows) with Different Music

Hi, I have my main Ipod with music in Itunes on my Sony Vaio....this music was originally on an external drive and was imported to itunes and cleaned up (songs deleted etc) I'd like to delete the music folder on the external drive and backup my Itunes library back onto the external drive.
However, I also have a second Ipod with different music (recently sold my bar but kept my second Ipod)and I guess I have to Sync the 2nd Ipod to my second laptop and I want to get that music onto the external drive so I can ultimately import this different group of songs from the external drive onto my main laptop where I manage my music.
I have a fairly general idea of what I need to do to accomplish this but would truly appreciate any input or advise to make sure I do it correctly
thanks!

If music is only on iPod this is a little more difficult. Otherwise just copy the files from internal hard drive of second laptop to external drive. Plug external into first laptop then add files to library.

  • Transferred itunes library from Windows XP PC to new Windows 7 PC. plugged in 3rd gen Ipod. Ipod icon appears along with playlists, music etc. Songs are grayed out and won't play. Please help!

I recently transferred itunes library from windows XP PC to new Windows 7 PC. The transfer was successful, however when I plug my 3rd gen Ipod Nano into the new PC, the Ipod icon appears along with the music, playlists, etc. The songs are shown but are 'grayed out' and wont play or sync. The 'Devices & Printers' window in new PC shows icon for Ipod driver & is OK. The icon for the Ipod appears but depicts a delta shaped warning icon that states that the Ipod is'not operating properly'. Tried troubleshooting. The troubleshooting message states the the Ipod is 'disconnecting'. Can you help me with this problem?

Then, I dropped the entire itunes file from the old PC (XP) into an empty external drive.
That "itunes file from the old PC"?  Is that the iTunes folder, from the old PC, that was in the user home folder's Music folder?
All of the library, playlists, etc. from the ipod as they always have been are shown, by they are 'grayed out' and will not open or play.
That's on the iPod, correct?  Are all of your old playlists in iTunes, from the old PC, still there in iTunes on the new PC?  Are the songs in iTunes still playable?
This document provides the steps to transfer a complete iTunes library between two computers.  See the section called External drive.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer - Apple Support
There are many steps, but this is a summary.  (1) On the old PC, consolidate all of your iTunes data into the iTunes folder.  (2) Copy this iTunes folder to the external drive.  (3) On the new PC (that has iTunes installed but NOT running), replace its existing iTunes folder with the one from the old PC (on the external drive).  When you run iTunes, it uses the iTunes folder from the old PC, and it should look like iTunes on the old PC (with all the playlists, ratings, play count, etc.), and your iPod will see the iTunes library as the same iTunes library (because it is the same library).
If you did something different, and the old PC is still accessible, you may want to try it using the method from the linked document.

Uncheck the option to automatically sync new apps to the device.
Other than that, syncing is by device.
Connect one device, tell iTunes what to sync, then sync.
    Connect second device, repeat.
    Connect third device, repeat.

  • 2 ipods, already with different music

If I have an ipod mini, full of my own music and my brother gave me his old large ipod, full of different music, is there a way for me to load my music from my computer onto his ipod? How do I register his ipod on my computer? I created a new user but the computer didn't recognize his ipod. Thank you.

You will have to restore the iPod. To do this you will download the latest iPOd updater (Version 03-23-2006) here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
RSTORE WIPES THE IPOD CLEAN!! If you can not use the updater on the ipod due to the ipod "Freezing" the PC, DIsconnect the ipod safly from the PC and put it into "Manual disk mode" then plug it back in and try again. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651

  • Sometimes I find songs I didn't download on my ipod, or songs that I did download are replaced with different music

OK, so I've noticed sometimes when I sync my iPod with iTunes, that sometimes I'll have my iPod on shuffle and I'll end up with either:
    A) Songs that I KNOW I didn't download, for example today there was a song titled "Marvins Room" a la the song by Drake, but what was playing wasn't even remotely close to Marvin's Room, and it had some cheap looking album art on it, that I KNOW I did not download.
    OR
    B) Songs that I DID purchase and/or download and I KNOW were the correct songs when I purchased them, have been replaced with some music I've never heard of before, for example I had "New Moon" by Brandy and one day it played something else entirely, but still had all the original song info. This has happened on more than one occasion and with different songs, and I've had to go delete the song and re-purchase and/or DL it.
Also, sometimes some of the music on iTunes isn't correct. Like recently, the availabe version of Rihanna's "Birthday Cake" is less than 2 minutes long, so you don't even get the whole song although you pay for a whole song. Or, some music is completely incorrect (see B above).
Anybody else run into these issues, and/or have any clue why this happens and how best to prevent it? Please and thanks in advance.

  • How to use one ipod on another computer using different music

Here's my situation: I want to use my son's ipod on my computer. I want to erase the tunes on his ipod and use my itune playlist (Not to worry-I've bought him a new nano...) with his ipod.
I also want to be able to install the new nano and have the new nano read his existing itune list on his computer. Any advice?

You just need to connect the iPod and if it is set for automatic update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc. Pressing "Yes" will remove all the songs currently on the iPod and replace them with yours. Alternatively you can restore your iPod, this will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to rename the iPod and automatically update your library onto the fresh installation: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings
    For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.
As for the new one, just connect it to your son's computer and it will walk you through the installation and update from his iTunes.

I have two computers (a pc & ancient apple laptop) with different sign-in accounts and I would like to know how I can get everything into one account and one new pc computer and not lose a single song, balance of gift cards, movies, & pod casts and be able to load all three of my iPods with all the stuff so they all contain the same stuff.
I have an ipod 6th generation Nano, a Classic - 160 GB and an iPod Mini.

Specific songs from the iTunes Music Store don't play
Try deauthorizing and reauthorizing your computer. Repeat the deauthorization and reauthorization process for any other iTunes Music Store accounts for which your computer is authorized.
1.Double-click one of your affected iTunes Music Store songs.
2.Enter your account name and password in the resulting dialog.
    3.Click OK.
After you've deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring your iPod.
After you've restored your iPod, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try recreating your iTunes library.
After you've recreated your iTunes library, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu.

    - The 5G should have all songs and some specific smart playlist.
