2 ipods (4th & 5th generation), 1 itunes, different software

Yikes! I had a 4th generation click wheel 20gb ipod (black & white) that started acting up. After looking around these forums, I decided the hard drive was dying so I bought a new ipod (5th generation 30gb with video). Suddenly my old ipod came back to life. For a short time. Now I'm trying to sync it with my itunes and I'm getting a message about it being corrupt. When I look up 'corrupt' in the support section here, it says, "The message does not indicate that there is an issue with the iPod but that iTunes was unable to read the firmware file it uses to restore or update your iPod. You can delete the folder containing the firmware files so iTunes can download a useable (non-corrupted) version." I'm afraid if I mess with the itunes folders, I'll mess things up with my new ipod. Can anyone help me get my mind around this?

The updater to restore the iPod is now contained in iTunes version 7 or later. If you don't have it, get it here.
iTunes download.
Then use the updater to restore the iPod.
See: How to restore the iPod to factory settings.
None of this will "mess" with your iTunes library or files.

  • IPod Nano 5th generation and iTunes library

Any way to get songs on my iPod Nano 5th generation into my iTunes library?  Sync doesn't work.
Lost a lot of my iTunes library recently due to a sync mistake. (I know, I'm an idiot.)  Much/most of the same music is still on my iPod Nano.  But something tells me Apple doesn't want me to get it back into my library so I have to buy it all over again...?  Would a tech at Apple store be able to do something for me?
    Not optimistic.

    Hello lilooloool,
To get music off your iPod nano, you can transfer anything that was purchased from the iTunes Store. You can also just download any purchased songs from the iTunes Store as well without having to sync. Take a look at the article below for steps on how to do either option.
    Download past purchases

Re-download or transfer your iTunes Store purchases from an iPhone, iPad or iPod to a computer

  • IPod 4th/5th Generation can't be customized

    Hi there,
A few years ago I purchased an iPod Nano, I'm not sure whether it is 4th or 5th generation. I customized it on Windows and lost it when I moved. I just found it today and wanted to customize it on my new MacBook Pro (old Windows computer is dead long ago).
But iTunes won't let me delete selected photos on my iPod, and when I wanted to sync over new music, it informed me that all my other music will be deleted!
Also, on my Apple Account, it somehow doesn't show on my list of registered products. I KNOW I registered it when I bought it. I tried to add it to the list, and it wanted to know the exact date I bought it. I don't remember, and it won't let me add my iPod to my list of products.
What can I do about all this? I do not want to lose precious data in the process of deleting the ones I don't need. And I want Apple to know this product is mine, yet it won't let me add it to the list.
    Can someone help me please?
    Thank you!

It is out of warranty so the registration is really not an issue.
Your Nano can only be linked to one library. If you used the backup from your old PC to move your iTunes folder to the new laptop you would be able to do what you want.
You will need to use 3rd party software to move what is on your Nano to your computer. You can try Senuti.

  • HT1853 How do I reset my iPod touch 5th generation using itunes?

I have a worded password on my iPod touch but I made a typo when I typed it in and I can't access my iPod. Is there any way that I can delete everything and reset the whole iPod using itunes and not the settings because I can't get to the settings. It is the 5th generation iPod toich (newest model) and it is currently using ios 7.0.6 as I can't update it to ios 7.1 without knowing the password.

    Hello there, KatKid.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps for restoring your iPod touch:
iOS: Forgotten passcode or device disabled after entering wrong passcode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
Alternatively, place the device in recovery mode and restore it to erase the device:
Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • How do I delete some songs on my ipod nano 5th generation with itunes 11? PLEASE HELP!

Urgh its just so annoying that Apple updated Itunes 11 and it wouldnt let me delete songs that I hate! Its syncing all of the songs and I didnt want that to happen. I tried many things on the keyboard like clicking the song along with Ctrl + Alt + delete button and clicking on the song, going to edit and the delete button seemed to be gone from it. They were unsucessfull and Im stressed out about it. How can I delete the songs that I want to get rid of?

I want Steve Jobs Back!!! I'm seriously thinking of converting back to the older iTunes. We have a saying in my country,it goes,"If it's not broke, don't fix it!" Sometimes I think they do updates just to keep busy at their jobs or just to **** us off.I don't have time to learn new software everytime someone at apple gets a bright idea.At least they should think it through and test it well before giving it to us.Apple is not a small company, how come we got to work out all their bugs and problems? I may send them a bill! LOL

  • I can't use my ipod touch 5th generation on my imac G5, needs itunes version 10.7  Where can I get that?

My imac G5 is old, but still works beautifully!  I just bought the ipod touch, 5th generation and itunes wants a version (10.7) that I cannot get on their site!  Any ideas? I tried hooking the ipod up to the ipad (2nd), but I get no reaction whatsoever!  Do I have to return this ipod?

iTunes 10.7 requires an Intel Mac and isn't compatible with yours.

  • HT1473 i need a file to download audiobooks to ipod nano 5th generation

I need a file to download audiobooks to my ipod nano 5th generation
    eg. .aa

    Original message:-
I have tried every way but due to my ipod requiring iOS I cannot upload audiobooks. I can only upload audiobooks  made by Librivox. on iTunes
I used another Website called "Audible", where with my Ipod nano 5th generation they gave me a file namely .aa which worked for me and I was able to upload audios of all kinds onto iTunes and my Ipod..
Have iTunes any such files that I can use to do the same please? thank you.
    New Message:-
Sorry my friend but you are not answering my question.
Now you are asking me  "And what do you mean by 'have iTunes any such files' ?"
and "have you checked to see if the site that you got them from have their own app in your country's app store ? Which is UK, is there a difference?
I have an Ipod nano 5th Generation so I use "ITunes" yes? or "Apple" if you prefer that?
Now when I download audiobooks on to iTunes  I cannot transfer those audiobooks from iTunes  on to my ( Ipod nano 5th Generation) because ITunes STORE tell me that I need iOS  which is NOT on my player although when I purchased the player it advertised it downloaded Music and Audiobooks OK?
Yet when I went to another site "Audible" THEY had a file to facilitate my player WHICH allowed me to download both music and audiobooks:)
Now all I'm asking you is does "ITunes" have any such software to allow me to do the same to get my audiobooks downloaded?  Thank You.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • My Ipod Nano 5th generation is not being detected by Widows and Itunes. I have tried everything based on the trouble shooting tips outlined. Has anyone had this situation before? How was it resolved. My Ipod is just out of warrenty

Have done all trouble shooting tech a through Apples and still have not resolved issues on Windows and itunes not detecting my Ipod  nano 5th generation device. Tried restoring the device manually using disk mode and still not being detected by the computer. Device is our of warenty as when service repair charges are $125.00 dolars more than I paid for this device. There must be some way to restore the entire device to factor settings without having to be connected to itunes and Windows. I wish I could connect but again device is not being read. I have another Ipod that is 8GB instaed of 16GB and it works fine. The sad thing about this situation is that my 9year old daughter worked hard doing delivering fliers for a long time to save her money to buy this 16 GB 5th generation Nano. Otherwise the Ipod works well but will not syncronize songs as it is not being detected. Maybe this is a result of corrupt files that got onto my daughters Ipod somehow and thus causing it not the be detwected through the USB connection thus as a result not be understoud as a working device through Windows and itunes. If anyone can help me out there including itune techs that would be well appreciated, but for now my daughter is not able to add new or delete any songs on her ipod as well pictures, and everything. Thanks

Try changing the cord. I could NOT get my computer to recognize my iPod 5th Gen until I read somewhere that different apple devices use different cords. I was inadvertently using my iPad cord and that caused my computer to not recognize my ipod.

  • Full automatic Itunes synchronization impossible for a brand new Ipod touch 5th generation

    Hey all,
I bought a brand new Ipod Touch 5th generation which won't synchronize my whole music library through Itunes (very latest version of the app).
The ipod runs IOS8 and the mac mini runs Yosemite latest version.
I already had issue synchronizing music the very 1st day I had the Ipod touch. As a result, went back to the Apple store for changing it for another device, thinking the Ipod was faulty, which Apple accepted and changed my device for a brand new one.
Since then, still unable to synchronize the full music library through itunes. I performed several full resets both on the mac mini and of the Ipod touch with no success. The synchronization seems to run fully normally with no warning pop up saying it failed or whatsoever and the sync process is very very long. But once done, my Ipod remains empty with no data at all.
The weird thing is that Photos are fully synchronized with no issue at all.
I contacted the Apple assistance who argued that my music library might be faulty and have corrupted files in it. So I cleaned it up, suppressing some files I had in double etc.
BUT still, no success, I had to go through the entire library to sync manually, but even then, I was able to have on the device, only half of the library, i.e. around 25 go. once the ipod display 25 to 30 gb remaining, it won't sync no more files.
Although I cleaned up the entire library and reset both devices hundreds of times, I have no clue why even manually, I'm completely unable to have my whole library automatically sync.
I spent hours on the phone with Apple assistance to get some help with no success so far. I even re-installed Itunes completely, still without any result at all.
I was only able to upload on the Ipod only half of the music library, and there are still 25 to 30 GB space remaining on the ipod and 20GB of music to be uploaded.
The automatic sync process always fails any time I try to run it, except for the photos, books etc.
I must say I also have an 160 GB Ipod classic with which I never had any problem so far, and which fully sync my whole library with no issue at all.
I read on the internet that some other users of IOS8 are accountering the same issue with itunes.
COULD SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP, I'M DESPERATE, given the price of the Ipod I really do regret I bought something that does not work properly. Quite disappointed

Yes the system just keep sync as everything is normal, but then no song is actually uploaded to the ipod.
And the remaining space bar shows the ipod's empty.
the automated process will just keep sync as if normal and the last step saying 'applying the modifications" just keep going on and never ends.
I was only able to upload manually half of the albums, all songs comes from different sources; ripped from CD for great part, but also downloaded from the internet from trusted websites.
All songs play normally through Itunes on the Mac Mini.
But then when trying to sync the whole library automatically, nothing happens and I only get tags of the different albums, as if there, but actually it won't play none and the Ipod player just keep skipping as if no musical data is there.

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
    Error 1600, 1601, 1602
Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

  • Since updating iTunes my new iPod touch 5th generation wont show up.

I recently updated iTunes on Friday. But now that I try to sync my iPod touch 5th generation it is not showing up in iTunes. The iPod asks if I trust this computer and I click yes but nothing happens. What should I do?

In case you haven't found this yet... I managed to fix the problem with my iPhones by updating the USB device driver.  The instructions are in this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5822553?tstart=0
or you can follow this knowlege base article on the Apple site:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
(for me the problem required me following the instructions in the "If only Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, or Apple iPod appears" section, but it may be different in your case)
Maybe Apple updated the USB drivers in this updated version of iTunes?  I'm not sure why the installer failed to install these drivers automatically (maybe that isn't possible??).  Maybe this is just a Windows problem and has nothing to do with Apple?  Who knows...
