2 iPods, both recognized once, now only one visible in iTunes7

As the title says, when I first installed iTunes7, both my iPods were seen by iTunes. Both my 2G 10G and my 4G U2 ipods. This morning after booting up, iTunes will only see the u2 iPod. I read about the FAT32 workaround, but both iPods are Fat32 already.
The only thing I can figure it could be is that iTunes 7 unchecked the Enable disk use option on the older iPod. I checked it. Now only windows sees the iPod not iTunes. any way to undo that? I'm figuring a reformat might do the trick?

Well I think I've figured it out. iTunes will only allow me to have one of the iPod enabled for disk use. When I have them both enabled for disk use, only 1 iPod will be recognized between reboots. For now I'll be fine but its nice being able to use the iPod to store backups of some of my files. Let's hope that a later revision of iTunes will resolve this issue.

Same as you would if you bought a pc; copy everything from your old computer to your new one.  Then you can just sync everything from the new computer, as you did with the old one.

If you purchased a series, then are other episodes currently available in that series in your country, and if so do they show under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your Mac's iTunes for downloading ?

  • HT204088 How how can I synch my ipod + iphone music to my new computer? I get the same error  "my ipod or iphone is synched with another itunes library. An Ipod can be synched with only one itunes library at a time. What would I like to do Erase and Synch

How can I synch my ipod & iphone music (purchased from itunes on my old laptop) to my new laptop? I keep getting the same message on my itunes on my new laptop: " The ipod/Iphone is synched with another itunes library. An ipod/iphone can be synched with only one itunes library at a time. What would you like to do - Erase and Synch or Transfer Purchases?" What do I do?
    A couple of other items:
    1) I am guessing Apple does not keep a history of all my music purchases? As I did not have my entire library backed-up anywhere, and relying on the music I have on my ipod and my iphone as my only source of itunes music....I have lost over 500 songs!!!
    2) I used to have an Apple account under another account name, and since have switched to a new account name. Is there anyway to find the history of purchases from my old Apple account name and transfer these over to my new account name and onto my new laptop?
I hope someone can help, I am having a very difficult time trying to obtain answers. Angie

The iphone/ipod is NOT a storage/backup device.  Not maintaining a backup copy is a big mistake.
You can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone/ipod to your computer:
Authorize your computer for all accounts and then click  File>Transfer Purchases

  • HT1495 We now have 2 iPods in the household but only one account.  if music is purchased though that single account, may it be stored on both iPods at the same time?

I am a brand new user of this site.  My question is whether 2 iPods (owned in the same household) may share the same music bought through a single iTunes account...  Many thanks.

Yes. You can put your purchases on as many devices as you like.

  • 2 thunderbolt displays worked fine daisy chained, moved one to work in other room, now only one will work.  both work independantly or both plugged into my macbook pro.

I have 2 thunderbolt displays and have had them daisy chained for months where I only would plug one into my macbook pro 15" retina and both displays have worked great.  The other day I moved one of them into the conference room, connected also a HDMI cord to a projector to do some work with staff on software design.
I brought my thunderbolt back into my office and plugged it back into the other thunderbolt dispay, then plugged the other display back into my macbook and started it up and now I can only get one to work daisy chained.  They both work great independantly or if both of them are plugged into my macbook pro, but not daisy chained any longer.
Is there a setting I need to look at to maybe reset so that my macbook pro will use both thunderbolt displays daisy chained?
Thanks for anyones advice and sharing any similar issues and how you fixed the issue.

    Hi there,
The first thing that I would recomend is resetting the PRAM on your portable.
OS X Mountain Lion: Reset your computer’s PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph11243
If the issues persist, then you may need to force the device to detect displays.
OS X Mountain Lion: About the Display pane of System Preferences
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5369
    How can I detect displays?
If the detect displays option is not available, hold down the Option key while you are in the Display pane.

  • "Device Not Recognized" - but for only one of three iPods?

    Hi-
I am hoping to get some help, as I am stumpted. Here are the symptoms:
    1) I have been successfully syncing two Nanos and a Mini on the same XP machine for sometime
    2) One of the Nanos now gets a "device not recognized" message upon connecting, while the other two iPods will still connect just fine.
    3) I've tried charging it fully (and running it down), the five R's, putting it into disk mode (updater doesn't recognize it's attached so can't restore), and installing iTunes on another machine (other machine doesn't recognize it, either).
    4) The problem Nano charges and plays just fine on its own.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Try downloading and installing iPod Updater 2006-01-10 (the version previous to the 2006-03-23) and restoring your iPod with that.

If your iPod encounters difficulties being recognized with this updater, put it into disk mode first:

  • IPod skipping iTMS songs - but only one account

    Hi,
I'm not sure what my iPod is exactly. It's a 40GB mono screen iPod, about five years old. I thought that made it a 'classic' but perhaps not... anyway.
Since I updated iTunes last, the update deauthorised my accounts on my MacBook. One of these was my current account and I've got that up and running again fine. The second one was an old account from when I was on AOL which the nice Apple people kindly helped me convert into an Apple ID account and that, too, is now running again on my MacBook.
The weird thing is that that account won't play on my iPod. It just skips through all those songs.
It will however play them if I connect my iPod to my MacBook and play through the MacBook speakers. I've tried authorising it but it says my accounts are already authorised and anyway, I don't think that's quite how you do it on an iPod.
I'm sure it's something fairly simple but it's getting frustrating now.
I have tried doing a hard reset on the iPod, holding down Menu and the centre button but it still skips through songs on this one account.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Charley x

Roaming: Heck! I think you are right. I'm not at home right now to check so I think I can check on that only through itunes. But, as I now recall, this happened to me before. These are all Christmas songs and I set them to skip after Christmas so "by artist" they are not included. The 158 are tracks added since last year and I forgot to set. Ugh!
Thanks for the tip and I'll update tonight once I confirm.

  • IPOD Shuffle recognized by USB on one PC but not another

I have an iPod Shuffle 2nd generation that works fine (is recognized and usable) on my Toshiba laptop running iTunes 7.1.1.5, but when I try plugging it into a Dell Dimension 4600, it is an unrecognized piece of hardware. I even plug it into the same USB port that another iPod goes into and works fine.
The Apple website says what to do if the USB drivers don't recognize it (update the drivers), but it is just showing up as an "other" piece of hardware (with the name "iPod" and the big yellow question mark).
    Any ideas?

I have the same kind of problem. I installed the ipod on one comouter in my house, dont know what version of itunes but i dont think the latest one and registered it, then I installed it onto this pc with the latest version of itunes and windows dosemt recognise it. It makes me insall drivers like five times and sends me loads of messages saying things like it is installed and ready to use one minute, then found new hardware the next. And even now after I have installed everything and I dont get the messages anymore it still dosent come up in 'my computer.' Does anyone know what the problem could be?

  • IPOD Classic 30GB Sound in only one ear-Not a headphone issue! Help...

    Hi,
I have the classic IPOD and have had it for 13 months. Go figure, warrantee is now up. Anyhow, the sound in one ear just stopped working. I thought it was the headphones but it's not. I can not find any settings in the menu for the balance on it.
    Any have this happen?
    Tara

Disregard the other 2 users. One sounds like an idiot and the other told you its unfixable when, it is in fact, fixable.
You simply need a replacement headphone jack. The problem is one of the contacts in your headphone jack (the metal that touches the plug on your headphones) got bent/damaged/etc. Replacing the headphone jack should do the trick.
If you want a DIY project, these jacks are about $15-25 including shipping on eBay. Heres an example of what you need (note this is not my auction):

You can probably get it sent somewhere for servicing as well. You also have various options of trading it in or selling it, etc.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
EDIT: By the way, your iPod is a 5th Generation iPod (a.k.a. iPod with video)

  • IPod not recognized and now frozen

My computer won't recognize my USB (iPod) device.
I completed all the actions here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711
I reinstalled my drivers as it says here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136
Finally I put my iPod into disk mode as it says here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=856777&tstart=30
None of the suggestions worked. After completing this last one and putting my iPod into disk mode, my iPod completely froze on a screen that says "Disk Mode" "OK to disconnect". I have tried every button combination I can think of to at least turn it off or reset but this screen just stays on, presumably until the battery eventually dies.
    Please Help!
    dell laptop   Windows XP

Assuming it's some kind of software issue, I reinstalled itunes again.
Now the computer recognizes that it's an ipod (and a disk drive). But now itunes gives me a message when I plug in my ipod, "iTunes has detected an ipod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the ipod."
    <clicking ok>
    <disconnecting and reconnecting ipod>
"do not disconnect" light comes on and then goes off after a minute, and the message above appears again.
The restore option is right on the screen.
    <clicking restore>
"There was a problem downloading the ipod software for the ipod. The requested resource was not found"
    <clicking ok>
I decided to reinstall the drivers again (no reason) and then try restore again.
I got past the "problem downloading" this time (maybe i lost my connection last time) and got past Apple software agreement, and another error message came up: "The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1415)."
I've tried three times in a row and that appears to be where it's stuck...
    pleeeeeeaaaaaase!!!

  • Both windows close while only one is supposed to

I have 2 windows that appear when the program is ran. One window you input 4 strings whihc should get input froma nother program ( not relevent for this problem ) it then gets arrays and is supposed to graph it on the other window ( also not relevent ). But what is relevent is that the graph window is supposed to stay open for the grtaph to be displayed. It stays blank until you press ok in the other window whihc then performs an action to add the stuff to the graph window. The problem is that the graph window will not stay up, once the ok button is pressed both the windows close. How could I keep the graph window open, or if not that, both the windows open. Thanks

i believe you used the System.exit(0)???
    This will terminate the application.
Instead..use the dispose() method for the frame, dialog, etc.. that you want to close. This should leave the other intact..unless the window to dispose is the parent window.
