2 iPods into 1 iMac?

Hi again folks,
I currently own a 30GB iPod Photo but I'm buying my sister a 2GB iPod Nano for her Christmas. I was just wondering if it's safe to change between which iPod is plugged into the Firewire or USB socket? Obviously, I won't have both plugged in at the same time (unless that's possible?). It's just that I've heard horror stories of people plugging a relatives iPod into their computer and transferring songs only to lose their entire catalogue on their own iPod upon reconnecting it.
Cheers,
Optimus.

The thing to remember is that Apple designed the iPod as a "one-way" music transfer device. As designed it will allow transfer of music from the computer to the iPod. If you hook your iPod into a PC or Mac that has iTunes set to auto-sync, then iTunes will replace your music on the iPod with whatever is in the iTunes library of the computer you just patched into.
You can share your purchased music on your Mac with up to 5 other computers and several iPods (I forget exactly how many). There is a lot of info all over this site on how to do it, but a good place to start is this FAQ.
Turn off auto-sync and follow the FAQ and be sure to post back if you need more help.
