2 ipods on one mac

hi all, i'm thinking of buying my daughter a nano for xmas. would i be able to use the nano along with my own video ipod in itunes.
would it be a case of manually updating the nano or would i be better using the crappy pc upstairs for the nano?
does it complicate matters if two ipods are getting used with the same mac?

I have an iPod photo and a nano, both auto-sync, each has its own preferences and playlists. No problem

How can I synchronize two iphones and two ipods on one MAC. My wife and i each have our own iPods and iPhones but share one MAC.

What do you mean by synchronize; music, apps, calendars, email, etc? Do you two share the same Apple ID on all devices? An Apple ID can support up to 5 computers and many iDevices.
    I hope this helps.

  • Multiple iPods on one Mac

I'm a teacher at a music department at a small University. We have digitized our entire CD library to MP3's, and allow students to listen to MP3's at certain designated computers. We protect the MP3's, however, and do not allow students to download them to their own MP3 players, in order to protect copyright law.
We are considering purchasing iPod Touches for all of our students. What I would like to do have the students sync their iPods at a Mac in our department, and be able to put MP3 files from our library on their device.
On the Macs in question, the students already have to log in with their University ID, and then they can pull up iTunes and listen to MP3 files on the computer itself.
Is there going to be a problem with doing this? Can each student log into the same Mac, sync their iPod, and then go on their way?
    Thanks,
    Erin

  • Connecting more than one ipod to one mac computer

Can anyone please advise me on how I can connect more than one ipod to just the one mac computer. I need to set up 3 ipods to work on the one mac computer but each with there own itunes library. thanks

When the iPods belong to two users, there are a couple of recommended methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Method one is to have individual Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. Each iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists.
Method two is to set your preferences so that either one or both iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library. Have a look at this article and see what you think and go for whichever you feel suits your needs best: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Another option when using a single library is to set one or both of the iPods to manual update: Managing content manually on iPod
Choosing the update option "automatically update selected playlists only" (called Sync Music - Selected playlists in iTunes 7) allows you to create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. Make your playlist a Smart playlist and limit the size to just below the advertised capacity of your iPod ( for example, around 3700MB for a 4GB or 1800MB for a 2GB Mini or Nano). • How do I sync my ipod from one mac to a new one?

I didn't own a Mac computer so when I recieved my iPod I synced it to my sister's computer.  Now that I own my own Mac how do I sync my iPod to my computer?  I got this iPod in 2008.

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the Mac as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your Mac first.

  • Iphone and ipod on one mac-pro.

I ordered my iphone today, it should be here within 10-21 days, I hope.....my question is this. My wife has all of her songs in itunes on our mac-pro, I am planning on using this same computer for my iphone. I don't want all of her music on my iphone, and she will not want my music on her ipod. We have completely different musical tastes. I this going to pose a problem for us? Should I have her move her music onto her laptop or on to the other hard-drive I have on this mac-pro with windows set up for her. I would appreciate any help on this one, I want to be prepared when my iphone gets here.

You won't have to move any of her music onto a different hard drive or even on to a windows PC. If you go into System Preferences, you can click on accounts and will be able to add a new user in the left pane. This way it's like having two separate Macs, none of your music will mix with hers and vice versa. Hope this helps.

I had an HP laptop with Itunes on it and kept my library on an external hard drive. I had a 160gb classic Ipod.
My computer died and i am buying a new one (mac is out of budget)
When I get my new computer, obviously I will download Itunes. My Ipod still has all the music on it and the external hard drive is ok.
I don't want to "erase" or lose any information when I sync with a new itunes that is "empty"
What are the steps? After I download Itunes and set the folder location to my external harddrive what is next? Will Itunes recognize my IPOD? Will it load the music/list from my ipd or external into itunes?
    Thanks in advance

  • Whats the best way to connect multiple iphones, ipads, ipods with multiple accounts to one mac

I have iPhone 5s, ipad 4th gen ipod classic and mac mini on one itunes account with iphone 4s with ipad 1st gen on another account (wife's account) and also want to be able to add to this in the future. I want to connect through the mac mini and be able to use music movies calanders reminders etc through all our i's, whats the simplest and best way to go about this, before i start down the wrong road.

Ok, here is the link to the original thread.  The key, for him, was that all of the pads used the same apple id, and needed to be set up identically.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15456170#15456170
The other trick they use for distributing materials for whatever class was using the pads, was to create an e mail account that they all had acees to.  The documents, pdf, or whatever, would be e mailed to the account.  Each kid accesses and downloads the email.  Does whatever they are supposed to do, and e mails the done result back to the mailbox.     Easy for the teacher and the kids.

  • I have one apple id, but the family all have ipods, imac and mac book connected to this account. how do i face time them?

i have one apple id, but the family all have ipods, imac and mac book connected to  this account. how do i face time from one device to another?

    Hello chlanli
You would need to use one Apple ID for purchases in order to get them across all of your devices and computer. If you want you can use one Apple ID for purchases and the other one to sync personal data. The article below will explain further.

  • His / Her iPods-One Mac mini-2 separate logins users....

and how can I sync her ipod on the mac. We both us one mini in office with two users. I want to sync all her emails,Mail, iCal,Address book as I do on my login side.
    Cheers

If you already have to separate user accounts for your Mac, there should be no problem setting up the sync for her ipod, everybody has his own iTunes library and account etc.
But if you're connecting to a new account for the first time, your device will be erased during the first sync and all content will be replaced with the content of the new iTunes library.
To save your data and settings, you'll need to back up manually. Here's how to:
Disable autosync in iTunes/settings/devices, set up the new iTunes account, connect her ipod and right click on it in the device list, choose "backup". iTunes will backup without syncing, see what's inside the backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases after the backup is finished by right clicking and choosing "transfer purchases".
Set up at least one contact and event on the Mac, to be able to merge contacts and calendars during the first sync process.
As already mentioned, the ipod will be erased during the setup, but you can restore all data and settings by using the manual backup.
Music, unless bought in iTunes and transferred with your purchases, can not be copied back to the Mac.

  • 2 Ipod touch on one mac?

    Hi,
I was wondering if it's possible to have 2 Ipod touch's on one MAC.
My girlfriend wants to use my MAC to install the newest version on her Ipod(1G), will it delete all her songs and pictures? is there a way to do this so she still has everything she had before?
Thank you very much for all the help,
    Stino

You can have pretty much as many devices connected to a single computer/iTunes copy as you want the only thing to be aware of is that the iPod Touch can only Sync to one iTunes library at a time and that each device either has to have a seperate iTunes account or share one account you can't have the best of both worlds

after plugging my ipod into my mac mini, my screen split into 2 duplicate screens, one on top of the other. How do i make that go away?

I am not sure about everything, but there is something that may fix some of your problems. Go to System Preferences, and choose the "Universal Access" preference pane. In Universal Access, turn off VoiceOver, Zoom (seeing tab), Sticky Keys, Slow Keys (Keyboard tab), and Mouse Keys (Mouse tab). Make sure the "Enable access for assistive devices" checkbox, which is at the bottom of the preference pane. From there, look at other options and see if they are things you want turned off, or changed from how they are set. If you don't know what different options do, click on the help icon at the bottom left corner of the window. And if you are still baffled, ask here and someone will tell you what it does.
If you use any of the universal access options or think they could be useful, feel free to leave them on.
Also, go to the Keyboard and Mouse preference pane, choose the Keyboard Shortcuts tab, and make sure there are no strange keyboard shortcuts set that may interfere with the keys you are having issues with.
Did you install any new software before this started happening, and if so, how many days before it started happening?
