2 iPods on Same Computer

My wife has an iPod Touch. I want to purchase one and install on the same computer. Can this be done with separate songs and apps?

Manual sync can work, but auto synching is usually easier.
You have quite a few option dependant on how you have everything set up.
Do you use or will you use the same Apple ID/iTunes login for both of you?
If so just go ahead and connect/sync the new iPod to iTunes create two playlists one yours and one your wifes and just sync each to the appropriate device, done.(this also allows you to share apps betweeen the two of you)
If you are using seperate Apple ID's you have two options you can just simply make sure that whenever either of you signs in you make sure to log in and out of iTunes using each of your Apple ID's once again having a single playlist each OR If you use seperate logins for the computer you can just have a copy of iTunes set up for each of you on each Windows login kinda like having two seperate computers.

    Hello SuzyQ5253,
It sounds like you have two iPhones you want to sync them with one computer.  I found an article with three ways you can go about doing this.  I recommend picking the method that works best for you and following those steps:

  • Help! syncing multiple ipods on same computer!

i will soon have two different ipods syncing to the same computer. how can i keep libraries separate so that my brother's music doesn't show up on my ipod and my music doesn't get synced to his?

There are basically two methods for managing multiple iPods on one computer. See here:
Method 1 - Create different Windows users accounts for each iPod on this computer.
Method 2 - Create a playlist in iTunes for each iPod.
To make Method 2 work, connect one of your iPods, and click on it in the left-source panel.
Under the "Music" tab, and set your option for a specific playlist(s) under the "Sync Music" option.
Do the same with your other iPod; not connected at the same time as the other one, though.

  • Registering multiple iPods on same computer

I currently have a 4G 2nd generation iPod that is registered to our computer. My husband just received a 4th generation iPod. Can you register multiple iPods onto the same computer?
My other question is if you purchase a used iPod, how do you register that and is there anything else we should consider when looking at purchasing a used iPod?
    Thanks for any help.

Can you register multiple iPods onto the same computer?
Yes. Register each iPod as if it was the only iPod being used on that computer.
My other question is if you purchase a used iPod, how do you register that
If iTunes doesn't give you the option of registering it, click here and fill out the forms.
and is there anything else we should consider when looking at purchasing a used iPod?
Restore it when you connect it to the computer.

  • Multiple ipods on same computer?

Is it possible to download music onto two separate ipods using the same computer? I don't mean at the same time.
I want to get an ipod for myself, but would like to be able to download my CD's and not have to have my wife's songs/CD's on my ipod.
I'm not sure this explains what I want to do, but I'll use it as a departure point.
I appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks.

  • Multiple users with different Ipods on same computer

My household has one general computer that is used by myself and my two teenage daughters. We don't use separate logins because it is used mostly to just go online, check our email, and use Itunes along with updating our Ipods. This works fine for us except that we have different Ipods. My girls have the Ipod Mini's and I have the Ipod (with video screen).
My question is this: Can one computer (running WinXPProSp2)authorize two different Ipods under the same user name? Also, can two (or three) different Ipods be "authorized" on the same computer?

Yes, your not really authorizing ipods, you just authorize a PC to play songs you buy from iTUnes. Once its authorized all ipods can play the song that connect to it.
You can separate the music that is loaded to each iPod (Like your music only added to your ipod and your girls ipods only updating there music to there ipods) By creating your own playlist and setting the ipod to update them. • Question regarding using two separate IPODs on same computer

I recently bought my husband an IPod since he loved mine so much. I already had ITunes on my computer (obviously), so I had him signout and then establish a separate account under his name before attaching his IPod to the computer. Once on ITunes, my library remained in the que even under his new name. He was thrilled because it saved him the issue of having to mess with downloading songs. He deleted off some songs, added others, and moved things around. Now, no matter what name you log-in under, the same library and playlists come up. Is there a way to fix this, or avoid it from here on out? I want MY LIBRARY back.

It sounds like you're talking about logging into your separate iTunes Store/Apple accounts which will only affect which of those accounts is charged for purchases.
It does not change Libraries or anything of that nature so, unfortunately, unless you made a back-up copy of your iTunes Library file before your husband started making changes, your LIbrary - as it was - no longer exists.
As for the future, you may want to have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base and let us know if it brings you any combination of joy and/or satisfaction.

  • Can two users have ipods on same computer?

2 people in my family now have the ipod shuffle, and we both want to use the 1 family computer for storing our "different" musical tastes. Can we both have the ipod experience, using the same computer? Before I start loading up all her songs, I want to know if it's possible for us both to have different music on 2 differnt ipods...both are shuffles... Any ideas?

    Simple.
Just create a new account for each "iPod User" and from there they can do what they want under their own iTunes Account.

Yes; see here for options on transferring different content to each iPod. The version of iTunes installed shouldn't be older than either iPod.

  • Using two iPods on same computer

Our daughter has loaded her iPod onto our family computer and created an account. I now have my own iPod for which i want my own library, which will include photo's. How can I use my iPod and sync to my library without syncing to my daughter's.
I also need to download the library on my iPod onto my own library. I somehow had a library but it has been wiped clean due to a restore. Is there a way of reverse backing up from my iPod to my computer.

See this Apple KnowledgeBase article; it should help:
How to use multiple iPods with one computer
Is there a way of reverse backing up from my iPod to my computer.
Transferring tracks from an iPod back to iTunes has been covered here a number of times already, but again:
First, you need to prevent automatic synchronzation with a blank copy of iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Shift and Ctrl keys in Windows. This should stop the iPod from auto synching with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer.
Then if you're using iTunes 7, you can then copy music that you purchased from the iTunes Store back to iTunes directly (use the Transfer Purchases From iPod command under the iTunes File menu).
If you're not using iTunes 7 or want to copy back other tracks, the easiest way will be to search VersionTracker for "iPod". You'll find a number of utilities that can transfer your tracks and your playlists from your iPod back to your PC.
It's also possible to do this manually, but the procedure is rather involved. If you're interested, though, see this thread:
    MacMuse: Computer crashed
    Hope this helps.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums, in the User Tips Library and in the Apple Knowledge Base before you post a question.
    Regards.

  • Syncing two ipods on same computer

When my son synced his ipod (20GB, no video) to our computer my daughter lost her ability to synce her ipod (30GB w/video). Is it possible to have two different itunes libraries and sync both ipods on the same computer? If so, what changes do I need to make?

There are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library and user account.
    b) Creating multiple user accounts and having separate libraries.
    Sharing a Library
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish):
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
