2 iPods on the same iTunes / different libraries?  Possible?

My girlfriend got a Nano for Christmas, but she only has Win98 on her computer at home. So instead of upgrading to Win XP (she'll do that down the road), she gave me her iPod and gave me a whole bunch of CD's she wants on her iPod.
I ONLY want to put the music she gave me on her iPod. I'm afraid that when I hook up her iPod to my iTunes, it's going to import every song I already have on there (definitely not her taste in music!)
Is there a way to separate libraries on iTunes, as to keep all her songs in one nice library, and to keep mine in another main library?
Of course, I agreed to do this favor for her, to tide her over until she upgrades her windows OS. After I get all her songs on her iPod, I'm deleting them off my iTunes.
So what's the score? Is it possible to upload certain songs (ie. a specific library) onto her iPod?
I've only had iTunes for about a month now, so I'm still pretty new at this kind of stuff.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I have a nano gen. 4 and a new nano 7.
Can I have them both on my itunes account and computer?
    thanks

Yes. You can easily have multiple iPods on the same iTunes account on the same computer. Each iPod will show up with its name when plugged in, and each iPod can have its own set of preferences (i.e., what music, videos, photos, audiobooks, etc. to sync).
What you can't do easily is use the same iPod on multiple computers with different instances of iTunes. One instance of iTunes has to be "in charge" of an iPod.

  • Can you have 2 iPods on the same iTunes?

I currently own a 30GB iPod and we purchased an iPod nano for our son for his birthday. We are not sure if we can run both iPods through the same iTunes, or do they need to be on seperate computers?
Please help...I cannot find any info about this.

There are actually a number of methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Method one is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries. Method two is to set your preferences so each iPod is updated with only certain playlists within one library: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
If you choose the update option "automatically update selected playlists only" you can create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. Make your playlist a Smart playlist and limit the size to just below the advertised capacity of your iPod (For example if using a Mini or Nano that's around 3700MB for a 4G). You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or of course you could set one or both iPods to "manually manage songs and playlists" and drag whatever you like to them.
    For info:
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • How do I sync multiple iPods to the same iTunes Library?

How can I sync multiple iPods to the same iTunes Library?

The same way you sync just one. If y want different media on each iPod then only select the items you want synced to each iPod
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
Try syncing using the manual method

Also, I would go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check the box that says prevent iPods... for syncing automatically so that you can more easily check what you want syned

  • What is the best way to manage multiple ipods using the same itunes?

    Hi Everyone
i am trying to manage three different ipods through the one Itunes, all with very different tastes, not sure if I am doing it the best or easiest way so does anybody have a simple solution on what you're supposed to do, to keep it all simple!
    Cheers

If you have created a new Windows user account you need to log out and then log back in with your original user name. By default each Windows profile will have an independent iTunes library.
If instead you managed to create a new library within the same profile. click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down the shift key, keep holding until asked to create or choose a library. Click Choose and navigte back to your original which should be at <User's Music>\iTunes.
    Your question as posed was:
What is the best way to manage multiple iPods using the same iTunes {library}?
in which case Selected Playlists is probably the best approach. Simply create a playlist for each device, Alice's iPod, Bob's iPhone etc. and sync the device with the appropriate list.

  • HT204053 i have set up both an i pad * ipod with the same itunes account but now want to seperate them

    Hi can anyone help.
I have set up an ipad & ipod using the same itunes account but I now want to unlink them as everything my son downloads appears on my i pod. also i want to change certain  e mail accounts?
How do i do this , not very technically minded so help needed!!!!
    Many thanks

You can't. Apps and content are tied permanently to the iTunes Store account through which they were purchased. Her MBA will need to be authorized to your iTunes Store account and she'll need that account information to be able to update the apps and re-download content, or they'll need to be repurchased through her iTunes Store account.
    Regards.

you can use a virtually unlimited number of mobile devices with a single iTunes library. in fact, Apple wants you to buy as many of them as possible

  • Syncing 2 Ipods to the same ITunes Collection

If you dont mind sharing your music on 2 Ipods. ie) mine and my friends, am I right in saying you can just sync one and then the other one on the same ITunes collection ?

Using Windows XP I have managed to sync 2 IPOD's to the same ITunes Collection previously but now 1 doesnt respond at all.
    It just shows as charging.
Anyone else have the same problem ? and is there a way around it ?
    Please comment

  • How do I use 2 different ipods on the same itunes sofyware

I have a 5th generation (I think) ( plays videos and is 60g.This is the software that is installed on computer. My friends has a nano but no cumputer. Can I use the same software to put songs on her nano. Will her nano work on my software ,will it screw things up, what are the risks involved

so it's ok for you and your wife to share but not kiser and his friend with no computer ?
    Correct.
seems weird that 2 people cannot share a computer, what about roomates and 1 computer ?
No one is saying they can't share a computer. I'm saying they can't share copyrighted material such as digital music on a portable device.
so if anyone wants to buy an ipod they have to go out and buy a computer ????????
Not at all. They can buy the iPod and just look at it.
They could also use a family member's computer, or a friend's computer IF THEY PUT THEIR OWN MUSIC ON IT. If they own a CD, there's nothing wrong with bringing that to a friend or family member's computer and using that machine to get the CD put on their iPod.
As long as no one else but the owner of the CD puts a copy of their music on their player... no problem.
It's quite simple. You can only have music on your iPod which you presently own the original media for (CD, Record, etc.), legally purchased iTunes Music Store track, other legally purchased digital media.

  • Can I run two ipods from the same itunes library/account?

I have a 20gb photo colour ipod and have just bought a new 30gb video ipod. I need to know whether I can run them off the same library and itunes account or do I have to have separate user accounts?
      Windows XP   iTunes 7.0.1.8

    Yes, you can.
You can either have multiple user accouts on your computer, or create separate playlists for your two iPods in iTunes.

  • 2 ipods using the same itunes library

    Hi
I have just given my hubbie an Ipod Nano for xmas and he already has an old one which he is now going to use just for when he is running.
He wants to use some of the music on his current library on his old Nano and also use all of the music he has on his new larger Nano.
How does he do this so he can update his old nano from time to time but make sure his new nano has all his tunes on it?
    Thanks

    Hello K Barnett,
There are several different ways for handling multiple iPods with one computer or iTunes library. For more help or information regarding these methods, see this Apple support document.

The way it sounds, your husband can just hook up with new Nano and set it up to sync his entire iTunes library and leave the configurations and settings for the old nano alone and continue syncing it as usual.

Read this article to find out how to set up your computer for multiple iPods.
If you don't want to create a separate user account, you have to set up different playlists to sync with different iPods.
    Hope this helps.
