2 iPods same Library different syncronizing results

My partner and I have 2 iPod 30Gb w/video that we syncronize with the same iTunes on the same computer. All of our settings are the same. He just plugged his in to rpdate and charge his iPod and it has deleted ALL of the 39 music videos and over 100 songs that we have purchased from iTunes. How does he get all of this back and is it safe for me to plug mine in, or will the same thing happen to me? All of the music and videos still show up in the Library!

This didn't work.
It is coming back with an error that says that there are 68 files that could not be copied because you are not authorized to play them on this computer. They are all files that we purchased from iTunes as well.

  • 2 ipods, one library, different musical taste

I have 2 ipods, my wife has one and I have one. We have different taste in music, but I would like to share the same music library, which is on an external drive. Since our music library is huge, I don't want multiple copies of the songs. How can I setup, so that each of us sync different selections of music, but share the same library?

There are a few different ways to use two iPods with one computer, have a look at this help page for suggestions: How to use multiple iPods with one computer
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs

Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod

  • Same Library-Different Computer

I recently received a laptop for my birthday. I want to have my itunes account on my new computer but I don't want to have to start all over in terms of songs and such. Is there anyway to sync my ipod to two computers and have two different libraries or is there anyway to move my library onto my new laptop without purchasing all those songs over again?
    -Desperate for help

Personaly, I use the same library on my desktop computer and on my Netbook.
The music files and library are located on my desktop, and I access it on my Netbook with a mapped "network drive" (\\Desktop\Music)
It's really simple. Start iTunes on your laptop while holding the "Shift" key. iTunes will ask you to specify where is located the library you want to use. Browse to your library located on yout desktop computer (Network Places or a mapped network drive), and select it (iTunes library.itl).
You'll be able to sync your iPhone on both machines without having to deal with two libraries and multiple copies of the same music files.

  • Same library different user

Am I able to have the same itunes library under different user accounts on the same computer? ie, we have set up an account for the children on the computer but would like to have the exact same itunes library when connecting the ipod etc.

    ryanfromdee why wrote:
I have done as suggested ie moving the itunes file to my public folder
actually, my instructions were to move the entire iTunes folder, not just a file
'library is locked, from a locked disc or you do not have write permission'
check if you have read & write permissions for your music folder. in the finder, right-click on it and get info. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings if necessary. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and apply to enclosed items like so
you might as well give everyone read & write access for good measure. the important part is to apply to enclosed items !
if you moved the iTunes folder to the public folder, perform above operation on that folder instead of the music folder.

  • Same specs different print results - hp 130 mac versus PC

ok, the hp tech support has been no help in this all year.
Using the most current drivers, updates, ect.
Using the same printing specs on preview or acrobat (mac) and acrobat (xp, or 2000 on fusion or parallels), I get totally different print quality results. The mac substantially inferior to the pc printing.
I'm really trying to wean myself from using the PC partitions at all, but printing is really bad using the mac side. ALL OTHER FACTORS ARE EQUAL. same paper, same quality specs, just different results. After trying to get HP support to verify, they said it was a leopard issue. I don't recall any issues using the Tiger OS from Macbook, but can't be sure.
Anyone else having print issues with HP from mac to PC?

Which kind of 'HP 130'? In any case, go to <http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs> and see if your printer is on the supported list. I've found that those drivers work much better than the ones which ship with the printer, _despite being developed by HP employees_. Why HP doesn't ship those drivers instead of the dreck they do ship is something you'd have to ask them.
These guys <http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3> also have drivers which are better than the ones that ship with HP's printers. Check them out and see if your printer is supported.

  • Why do two iPods need to share the same library? Is there any way I can change it?

I owe one iPod and brought another today, and I just set up the other one. They're both the same model - iPod touch 8GB - and I've set the second one up. I've had the first one for some time, about an year, and I only bought another for a family member. I was wondering why do we need to share the same library and how can we change it. Help would be welcomed since we really like different kind of genres and we disagree on them, so we really really want to change this. I can't even say how much we need to change the setting. Thank you!

Sherlocked, There are a few ways you can solve that problem.
If you do want to share the same library, use the capabililty to "Sync Selected Playlists," so that each iPod will only get the music that its owner wants.
Alternatively, you can set up two separate libraries.  This is easiest if you use two different Windows user IDs on the computer.  Then each iPod owner can sync to his own library.

  • Can i sync 2 ipods to the same library

I have 2 kids and the youngest now has her own ipod touch. I share my library with the eldest. I was told by the person who sold me the new ipod that if they played the same game from the same library on their separate ipods, the game stays at the last level that was played. The youngest may get frustrated b/c the level that the eldest left off at is too high. CanI buy multiple copies of the same game apps for our shared library, or should I set up a diff acct for the youngest so she can have her own games? If a diff acct is set up, can I share the music in my library with the youngest or do I have to buy the music over again for the youngest's acct? Thx.

You can have different playlists for each device. You can chose which playists or any media will sync to which device.
e.g. device 1 can sync playlist 1, 2, and 3 while device 2 syncs playlist 3, and 4. Its your choice for each device what will sync to it. The same goes for games.

  • HT1349 When I try to download an audiobook from my library I get a message saying it has not been copied because it cannot be played on this ipod?  Any ideas why this might be I've just downloaded another audiobook from the same library?

Is it something about "I Shot the Sheriff" that my iPod has a moral disagreement with? It had no issue importing and installing Body Count's "Kop Killa"...
    Not really likely, is it?
First of all, look on the iPod to see if the song is actually on there. (The last Sync of my Classic resulted in "song not copied... because it cannot be found." The song had previously been on the iPod. I checked and despite the fact that iTunes could not find the file, the song was still on my iPod. I checked the folder and the song was exactly where t was supposed to be. So I simply set iTunes to find it again. What happened? I don't know, iTunes simply threw a wobbly!)
Second, try another Sync. Does this change anything? If the song was on the iPod, does a second Sync remove the message?  If the song was not on the iPod after the first Sync, does the second one put it on there?
    What happens?

  • Missing files using the same library on two different macs and other minor problems

    Hi everybody,
I'm working on a long documentary and I'm new to FCPX (coming from Avid NC and Edius)...I have and external HD where I stored all the media I'm working with (about 1/2T - 1000 clips)...The library (about 100gb) is stored on the internal drive of my iMac and into the iCloud.
Yesterday, I received my new MacBook and today I tried to work on it. I followed this steps: I downloaded from iCloud the same library I was working with, I put it on the same folder (movies) it was stored on my iMac and I connected my external HD with all the media...Results? All the clips where gone and the red missing file warning was all over the place.
FIRST QUESTION: How can I work on both computer overcoming this missing files problem? I know I should have put the library on the same external drive but It was a move aiming to
    SUB QUESTION 1:
I went back to my iMac and everything worked fine except for a warning about one of my events (the exclamation point) as you can see from this pic:
I tried to relink the file...but no files to be linked popped up in the relink file window....HOW CAN I KNOW what's wrong in that event in order to fix it?
    SUB QUESTION 2:
I checked the Library info and - as you can see in the pic below - there are 43mb of media in my internal HD...is this maybe the problem preventing me from working on different macs? I tried to consolidate everything to the external HD but still the 43mb thing persist in being on the internal HD. How can I find where exactly it is located? How can I move it to the external HD given that the consolidate option isn't working?
Thank you in advance for your help
    Nico

    1) Don't know why this is happening. It may have something to do with
I downloaded from iCloud the same library I was working with
I'm not clear what procedure you're using here. Using a cloud for storage might change some file tags. Generally users I think keep the library on the same drive as the media, keeping the library backups on the system. There is no real benefit in keeping the media in a separate location. Often users will keep the library in the same folder as the media. It makes backing up using tools like Carbon Copy Cloner very efficient.
1a) This can be difficult to find as there sometimes is no obvious indicator. It might be a missing element in a compound clip, a missing or altered layer in a graphics file, a missing font, a missing effect. These will show up inside the item involved, but may not be apparent in the browser. A missing transition for instance will not be seen until you skim over the project or try to export it.
    2) The 43 MB is a small amount of optimized media. This never prevents relinking. The library is always looking for original media, or proxy media if you're in proxy playback. It never looks for optimized media. If it has it, it uses it, if it doesn't, it uses the original media. If you are using original/optimized playback, you must have the original files. The optimized files are not enough.

  • 2 Ipods on the same library?

I have an Ipod, and my girlfriend just picked up a Nano. Is it possible to work both off the same library? She doesn't want to start a new library of her own; she just wants to move some songs from my library onto her Nano. Is this possible and is there anything special I need to do?

See these articles about using more than one iPod on one computer, and with either one or more iTunes libraries.
    Multiple iPod installations.
How to use multiple iPods with one computer.
If you have the latest iTunes, an easy way to create a new library is to hold down the 'alt' key whilst opening iTunes (for Macs), or hold down the 'shift' key (for Windows).
This will give you the option of either using the current iTunes library or creating a new one.
There are various methods of transferring different songs to different iPods with a single iTunes library.
One is to manage the songs manually.
With this setting, you can drag and drop songs/playlists etc onto the iPod from iTunes, and also delete and/or edit songs which are currently on the iPod without affecting the iTunes library.
If you wish to keep the convenience of automatic sync, then you could set the iPods to sync with "selected playlists". This setting can be found in the iPod summary screen under the 'music' tab. With this setting, different playlists can be transferred and later deleted from each iPod without affecting any playlists stored in iTunes or the playlists on the other iPods.
Also, on the 'summary' main page you will see the option to "only sync checked items". With this setting selected, if you remove the check marks from any songs in iTunes, they will not be transferred to the iPod. You can restore the check mark if you want to put the songs back on the iPod at a later date.
Be aware that when playing songs in iTunes, any songs that do not have a check mark against them will be skipped over and will not be played.

  • Four different IPODS same computer

How do I update my tunes on four ipods (for four different people) on the same computer without losing what is already stored on them.

There are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library and user account.
    b) Creating multiple user accounts and having separate libraries.
    Sharing a Library
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish):
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but if you have one it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page:
Loading songs onto iPod shuffle - Windows
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists

  • One Library / account - two iPods to sync different muzic

Can iTunes manage two different iPods in a single account / library - without making their contents the same? One synchronzing playlist A, the other synching playlist B ?
Or ist the only way to handle 2 iPods by 2 different user accounts?
    Thanks a lot
    Peter

    Very simple.
Each user creates their own playlists.
Plug in your iPod, open the iPod preferences in iTunes and select Automatically Update Selected Playlists.
Have the other user do the same.

  • How do I sync two ipods with two different IDs on the same computer?

How do I sync two ipods with two different IDs on the same computer?

Simply connect them.  One computer with one iTunes can manage multiple devices.  They're tracked by S/N but you might wish to assign them unique names so that you can track them yourself.
The only minor issue is app updating and purchases while on the computer.  It's necessary to log out and back in to the "correct" ID.  Much easier to do these things from the iPods.
