2 ipods synched to 1 computer

Hello, I am thinking about buying my dad a i-pod for christmas. I am just wondering if it is possible to keep my music collection on my computer and his music collection on the same computer as mine whilst my ipod only synchs my music an vise versa.
Thanks, Nick

  • Ipod & synching with new computer

i have bought a laptop and have downloaded itunes but when i connect my ipod classic it does not sync the songs that i have on my laptop. the songs on my ipod are from my old computer. i use wi-fi to connect to my laptop.

Does the new laptop contain your entire iTunes library?  Meaning, did you transfer all your music from (an old PC) to the new PC?
The syncing process does not work backwards.  Technically speaking, any music currently on your iPod, should be in your iTunes library first before you sync the iPod with your new laptop.
There is software you can use to move all music from your iPod to your PC, but it would be easier if you could first transfer the music from old PC to new PC.

I have new purchases on my new laptop but too paranoid to synch the ipod incase I lose the thousands of tunes I copied over from my old collections.

On your computer go to the control panel (hover in the lower right corner) then programs, add/remove programs
Uninstall iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Service, Apple Application Support then go to apple.com and redownload and reinstall iTunes and try again.
You won't lose any content, you're not deleting that, just the programs that access them.
What is thought to happen is that sometimes a new version of itunes doesn't update the drivers in those other two programs. The only way to update the drivers is to force it by uninstalling the programs which allows itunes to write the correct ones.
My iPad and iPod did exactly the same thing and this is how I fixed it.

  • HT1535 I've lost a very important note on my ipod touch. Most of it should be synched on my computer.  If I synch now, will it delete the note from my computer or restore it on my ipod??  Thanks!

If you properly erased all data on the iPod it would be exactly how it was the day it was bought. You would be instructed yto set up your iPod and to sign into your Apple ID account etc. If this has happened to you, you have properly erased your iPod.

  • The screen on my daughter's iPod Touch is cracked and will not power on. I cannot unlock it, I do not believe it was synched with any computer. I would like to transfer her stuff from the old to the new.

Any help is appreciated on how to unlock an iPod touch that has no screen. All I want to do is transer her apps/pics/music to her new iPod touch.

    - What happens when you connect the iPod to its syncing computer and try to transfer purchases and other things? Error messages?
    - Try resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - I know of nothing else to do without erasing the iPod.

  • My computer was stolen, can i synch from my ipod to my new computer?

all of my music, both purchased through itunes and burned cd's are all on my ipod.  i have a new computer as my other one was stolen.  is there any way i can get all of my music and playlists from my ipod onto my new computer?

    Yes it happened to me.
Go to www.ehow and ask   'How to move music from your ipod to itunes'
The process is a bit tedious but it works and beats having to reinstall from cds etc.

  • My computer is not recognizing my ipod shuffle.  The computer says to use the ipod reset utility.  When I tried doing this it told me that it was for a 32 bit version which I obviously do not have.  My computer is only a few months old.  What do I do now?

My computer is not recognizing my ipod shuffle.  The computer says to use the ipod reset utility.  When I did that it came up with another message that it was only good for a 32 bit version.  I guess I do not have a 32 bit version.  I just purchased my computer a few months ago and it uses the windows 7 operating system.  What do I do now?

    Not sure if this helps:-
The music files, were they bought from your iTunes account or did someone gift them to you after buying from the iTunes account? If they are yours you can download them again if you clear or de-authorise the ipod, it has to be done by whoever gave you the ipod to do this (the registered  owner). If they were bought for you on another itunes account I don't think Apple let you use them as they are copyrighted and they don't belong to you, they belong to the person who bought them. If the music files where ripped from music cd's then click and drag them to a new folder on your desktop and have the person who gave you the ipod to de-authorise and unregister it. Then you re register it and put your files back from your desktop folder in your iTunes folder and synch. Hopefully that would work.  Any files which you did not buy, I would not know how get around this, best bet is to take it to you nearest Apple  Store and explain that they were gifted to you and ask how you can use them.  The best way to gift music files is to buy the gift tokens and give these. Hope above helps.

  • Synching to new computer

I have just purchased a new laptop and want to synch an Ipod Classic to it via Itunes.  When attempting this it seems to want to erase all content on the Ipod.  I also have a desktop with Itunes which has the original files etc.  I cannot understand why it does not give me an option to manually synch one way, that is from the Ipod to the computer as the first synch

    Hello, Maudlin67.
Thank you for the question.  Only purchased content from iTunes will transfer from your iPod to you new computer.  I see in your post that you have your old computer available.  Home Sharing is a feature I recommend to migrate your media from one computer to the next.  Below, I have included a couple articles that cover how to use Home Sharing and how to transfer purchases from your iPod.

  • HT1212 syncing ipod to a new computer

I had itunes running on our home computer and all of my kids' ipods were synched to that computer.  That computer is no longer operating and I have a new computer which I had transfered all of the itunes files from the old computer onto. But non of the kids' devices show up on it. Can the ipods be connected to the new computer's itunes for synching?

yes they can. plug each ipod touch individually and there be a pop up screen that will come up on the screen asking do you trust the computer to access the ipod click yes and you need to do that with each ipod now that since each ipod was synced with another itunes library any music that is currently on each ipod will be deleted and that is because each ipod can only be synced to one itunes library at a time. also be sure that the new computer is authorized to play all content assoicated with the apple id that your are using and then go into your account through the itunes store and go to the area that allows you to manage devices and remove your old computer and make sure as well that your computer is deauthorized as well but since you can't do that don't worry about that

  • Transferring music from ipod classic to new computer

    Hi, can anyone help?
My last computer became corrupted and unusable and I am left only with my ipod of music, which I would like to transfer to a new computer, however, it will not synch with the new one as it is says my ipod is already synched with another computer (my old one!). I have contacted apple and they have sent me information, but you need to make adjustments on the old computer (which no longer exists)to transfer the files. Is there a way of transferring the music from the ipod to my new computer, without using my old computer?
    Thanks...

OK, I had to restore my laptop to factory-settings, and so lost all my music in iTunes. Still have my music on my iPod, but obviously can't syncronise it as I'd lose all the music on there.
I have tried a couple of software packages (ipod2computer & Tune Tools), but neither of them seem to work (one keeps asking me to put in my credit card details again and the other just hangs or saying it hs updating data, but after a few hours nothing happens). Really looking for help or recommendations in transfering music files from my ipod or software that can enable this.
    Many thaanks for any assistance

  • IPod synced to old computer

I got rid of an old computer without backing up my iTunes. My iPod has all my songs on it but I can't synch it with my new computer without erasing them. Is there any way to move my songs from the iPod to the new computer?

You have to use a third party utility. I have used this one successfully.

You can find other options using Google.

  • Whenever I sync my iPod touch with my computer, several albums vanish.

Whenever I sync my ipod touch with my computer, several albums vanish from the ipod. Fortunately I have all my music saved to my computer, but this is still extremely irritating. The albums that vanish are always different. I have a 2nd generation itouch and a 2010 macbook pro with mac os x 10.6.7 and itunes 10. Please help!

You don't.  You synch your iPod to your computer.  There's no way to synch from iPad to iPod.  You can tranfer the same playlists to your iPod from the computer.
