I have my son's ipod on my laptop and when he plugged it in it auto sync and made all the changes to music, games, etc.  I recently purchased an ipod for myself and went and purchased some songs.  However it downloaded the songs into my son's playlist.  How do I set up my own account so when I plug in my ipod it does the same as his plus allow me to download my own music.

Easiest is to just check the media yo want synced vice syncing the entire library.

  • Syncing multiple Ipods to one laptop

How do I sync my 3 kids Ipods with only one laptop? It seems unreasonable to have a unique laptop for every Ipod in the house. We have 5 Ipods total, with 2 laptops. I need to find a way to put songs on my kid's ipods without having to "erase" the content that's on there now. Thoughts?
    Thanks.

  • 2 ipods on one laptop....help

Well I returned my shuffle for another like customer support said. In my second ipod. Almost got it working. Here is my question. My son uses an ipod mini on his laptop.
I'm trying to get my shufflr working on it too. Now I get the message can't write to ipod. I've restored it about 50 times with and without the old versions. QUESTION:: my son has the same name as mine. If I register my shufflr with the exact same name as my son has his mini registered as...will that confuse i-tunes??? Also, my shuffle after restored shows 300kb used and 970MB free...is that normal for a restored shuffle...Thanks , almost there

Actually, it won't confuse iTunes. iTunes uses a UUID or similar (which would look like a bunch of random characters to you) to identify iPods. The "name" you give it is a cosmetic thing that has no effect on how iTunes uses the iPod.
The only exception is that you can't "rename" the iPod in Mac OS X while copying files to it because the "name" is used as the mountpoint and you can't rename a mountpoint while it's busy.

  • How do I merge multiple ipod libraries on one laptop?

We have over 5 ipods in the family and need to sync all their content to one library on one laptop.  Every time I plug in an ipod to the laptop, it will only show that ipod's library.  I have tried to merge the libraries, but end up losing songs/apps/etc.  At present, for example, I can see many apps in the iTunes library, but they will not sync with the ipod that is plugged in.  Thanks for any help.

Only two ways currently - the latest versions of iPhoto and of Aperature (which can nopen current iPhoto libraries and can merge libraries) or the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -

  • How can I manage 2 iPods and an iPhone from one laptop?

I have replaced my laptop, upgraded my phone to an iPhone, replaced a broken iPod screen that was broken within the first month of purchase from Apple direct and Apple has not been any help in assisting me with getting all of this syncronized.  I cannot even get access to a PERSON one time to set this all up.
I have changed my passwords so many times that one of the iPods (the NEWEST VERSION) has been out of use for over 4 months!  I am so disgusted with all of this.  We are sharing music we don't even like because we cannot listen to our own music.  It was never this difficult with our old mp3 devices!
Is there anyone who can help me???
I have a mentally handicapped 20 year old grandson that loves his iPod.  It was one of his Christmas gifts last year and it was damaged when he dropped it on the school bus last winter.  I had to pay almost $100 to have the screen replaced, but could not afford to do it until this past spring. By then I had forgotten his passwords and had to set up a new email.  Then, my computer had to be replaced and we were without internet for some time.  By the time we needed the password again, I could not locate it.  Now I have to start over!  This seems to be only a problem with Apple.  He has a Kindle Fire and we do not have this problem with Amazon.
My husband is a painting contractor.  I thought I was doing him a great favor by giving him an iPod as a gift.  But that has also been a disaster.  He can't listen to his music because I cannot separate his music files from our master file. I wish I had just bought him a new mp3 player instead of an iPod.
PLEASE HELP!!!    DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO REACH A REP FROM APPLE???

  • 2 IPODS one Laptop help

    Hi There
I have two IPODS running off the same ITUNES. I have tried manually updating them (as we both want different music) but it doesn't seem to work. Any help?
We tried to have 2 ITUNES on the same laptop but they just keep overwriting each other and we lose music, even when they are saved in different places.

When the iPods belong to two users, there are a couple of recommended methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Method one is to have individual Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. Each iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists.
Method two is to set your preferences so that either one or both iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library.
Have a look at this article and see what you think and go for whichever you feel suits your needs best: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Choosing the update option "automatically update selected playlists only" (called Sync Music - Selected playlists in iTunes 7) allows you to create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. Make your playlist a Smart playlist and limit the size to just below the advertised capacity of your iPod ( for example, around 3700MB for a 4GB or 1800MB for a 2GB Mini or Nano). You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Manual updating is another option that should work, I'm not sure what problems you are having with it but it should be possible to set one or both of the iPods to manual update: Managing content manually on iPod

  • One laptop and two Ipods

Is it permissable/possible to download itunes files from one laptop to two Ipods without experiencing problems?

    Hello Keith,
Is it permissable/possible to download itunes files from one laptop to two Ipods without experiencing problems?
Yes. There is no limit to the number of iPods you can sync to one computer or iTunes library. I sync my iTunes content to 3 different devices.

Why is the music on my iPod randomly not letting me play? all my good ones are the ones I purchased won't play, my storage is fine. I tap on the song but it skips to a completly different song on iPod but not laptop. For example both versions of Til' I Collapse by Eminem won't play on my iPod but on laptop, same with Born this Way by Lady Gaga

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Laptop crashed and how to transfer music from ipod back to laptop and won't transfer new purchases to ipod?

My laptop crashed about 2 days ago. I got it fixed and had to reinstall it. I had to reinstall itunes all over again. How do I transfer all my songs from my ipod including the ones that were from hardcopies and by hardcopies I mean cds I bought in real life and is on a disc. All of the songs are still on my ipod so how do I upload all of the songs and videos (purchases, music/songs from hardcopies/cds uploaded not bought from itunes, etc...?) How would I upload all of that back to itunes on my laptop? Another question is for some reason when I hook up my ipod to my laptop, I recently bought 23 songs about a day ago and it won't upload those purchases to my ipod, is it because I have all the hardcopies and downloads on my ipod that the itunes library doesnt have? Also, how would I sync my newest purchases to my ipod efficiently without deleting any of the hardcopies I uploaded before my laptop crashed?

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

  • Need advice on multiple iPods on one computer

I have found the article on running more than one iPod on a computer. The directions seem simple. I just wanted to post my situation and ask an additional question.
My wife's laptop recently died but we were able to save the hard drive. So her iTunes library should still be there in tact (everything else is). With the current state of the ecomony we are trying to save money and have her "share" my laptop. Is there a way to copy over her library from that hard drive without screwing up my library?
In looking at the instructions for running multiple iPods on one computer, option 3 seems like the best method for the time being. I also have an HP Smart Media Server that has an iTunes system for sharing but I have not had the time to explore that in much depth and have not found much in the documentation that comes with the server. I would greatly appreciate any advice you may have.

Yes, if you are both on your laptop with one windows user login, method 3 can work.....but it can also be really confusing.
You will both have to train yourselves to ALWAYS do the itunes shift-start before opening itunes, every time. Your ITL file is on the laptop and hers is on the salvaged hard drive. I assume you put it in an enclosure and it's connected via USB?
You might also need to check the preferences every time.
For instance if you want your new additions to go to the laptops's hard drive. She wants her podcasts to go to the salvaged drive. You'd have to change your preferences every time using method 3.
You might want to get he media server going before too much longer! And switch to Method 1 with a shared folder on the server.

  • Transfer app data from one laptop to another?

Not quite sure if this is the right place for this question but I'll give it a shot...
I've recently got a new laptop and haven't yet plugged my iPod into it yet as I'm wary about losing all my app data. I've tried searching the internet but I haven't really found anything that helps.
So my question - if you transfer apps and stuff from one laptop to another will all the data stay with it (over home sharing or external harddrive) or will it clear all the data once I connect my ipod? Is it even possible to keep the app data?
Please help, I'm desperate to put more music on my iPod and can't use my old laptop to do it as I can't install the latest iTunes due to lack of memory.
    Thank you

If you follow the method of copying the entire iTunes folder from the old to new computer here, you shouldn't have any problems.

  • Multiple iPods on one Itunes account

I have had an iTunes account on my laptop for years, and have it currently hooked in withan iTouch.
My fiance just recently bought a new iPod, and I am wondering if I can hook her new iPod to my laptop w/ the iTunes account, and not ruin anything?
Also, she is about to buy a new laptop, so if she can put music on her new iPod from my iTunes account, when she puts her new iPod on the new laptop, will it wipe it off?
Thanks for your help in advance.
    JM

Make sure each iPod has a unque name and just connect the iPods to the computer one at a time. Check the apps and other items that you want synced to each iPod.  Also see:
