2 ipods with 1 PC - creation of autonomous libraries ?

Hi ! I own 2 ipod Video (30 & 80 GB) one for me and one for my daughter unfortunately with only one PC! At this time they both contain the entire library of songs of my itunes .
How can I delete songs from my daughter's ipod keeping them on the library and is it possible to set two separate libraries (one for each ipod)?
Basically I want for my daughter's ipod a percentage of the complete library if it is not possible to see her own autonomous library .

If you have the latest iTunes, an easy way to create a new library is to hold down the 'alt' key whilst opening iTunes (for Macs), or hold down the 'shift' key (for Windows).
This will give you the option of either using the current iTunes library or creating a new one.
There are various methods of transferring different songs to different iPods with a single iTunes library.
One is to manage the songs manually.
With this setting, you can drag and drop songs/playlists etc onto the iPod from iTunes, and also delete and/or edit songs which are currently on the iPod without affecting the iTunes library.
If you wish to keep the convenience of automatic sync, then you could set the iPods to sync with "selected playlists". This setting can be found in the iPod summary screen under the 'music' tab. With this setting, different playlists can be transferred and later deleted from each iPod without affecting any playlists stored in iTunes or the playlists on the other iPods.
Also, on the 'summary' main page you will see the option to "only sync checked items". With this setting selected, if you remove the check marks from any songs in iTunes, they will not be transferred to the iPod. You can restore the check mark if you want to put the songs back on the iPod at a later date.
Be aware that when playing songs in iTunes, any songs that do not have a check mark against them will be skipped over and will not be played.

  • Multiple iPods with different libraries for each?

Hi all, how do I set up iTunes so that I can sync up different iTunes libraries with different iPods? I have two iPods with different music on each and want to keep the libraries separate. (One is from an older computer.) The only option I see when plugging in the older iPod is "do you want to rease this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?" Yikes, no.
    I'm using iTunes 9.
    thanks,
    Scott

It seems that you would just create your two separate libraries for the two iPods, library A for iPod A and B for B. Then, either don't connect iPod A to the computer when you have library B open or vice versa, but if you do, just select not to sync when the prompt appears.
Alternatively, elect to manually manage the iPods.

  • Using 2 iPods with one iTunes account.

I share a computer with someone who also has a iPod and we have one version of iTunes downloaded. Although we have seperate user names iTunes seems to autosync what she's put in the library to my iPod and vise-versa. We would love to share some of the files that we pay for, but we certainly don't want to share everything. Is the best option for us to just sync our files manuelly instead of auto-syncing?
    Thanks

There are actually a few methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Just to summarise what's in the link above which is a little out of date:
Method one is to have individual Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you completely separate iTunes Music folders and libraries.
Method two is to set your preferences so that any or all of iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library:
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Another option when using a single library is to set any or all of the iPods to manual update: Managing content manually on iPod

  • I have an older ipod with a large itunes library and a new ipa 2. the both have the same email but different passwords. Can i sink th old ipod's library ith the new ipad's library?

I have an older ipod with a large itunes library. I have a new ipad2. Both have the same email address but different passwords. Can I merge both itunes libraries?

    Not sure if this helps:-
The music files, were they bought from your iTunes account or did someone gift them to you after buying from the iTunes account? If they are yours you can download them again if you clear or de-authorise the ipod, it has to be done by whoever gave you the ipod to do this (the registered  owner). If they were bought for you on another itunes account I don't think Apple let you use them as they are copyrighted and they don't belong to you, they belong to the person who bought them. If the music files where ripped from music cd's then click and drag them to a new folder on your desktop and have the person who gave you the ipod to de-authorise and unregister it. Then you re register it and put your files back from your desktop folder in your iTunes folder and synch. Hopefully that would work.  Any files which you did not buy, I would not know how get around this, best bet is to take it to you nearest Apple  Store and explain that they were gifted to you and ask how you can use them.  The best way to gift music files is to buy the gift tokens and give these. Hope above helps.

What do I need to do so that my daughter can also maintain a plat list on my PC.
I have my play list for my ipod. She would like to have her own play list/ipod set up on my pc as well.

Also, you can have many different playlists set up in one iTunes library and have iPods just sync from one playlist.
I am assuming you want two different libraries?
Either way, see the link for more information.

  • IPod with Mac and windows

I currently have a 1st generation iPod Touch with the iTunes library on my macbook. I am using a windows xp system at the office which also had iTunes installed. Will I be able to sync the iPod with both computers or will this create an issue with the libraries?
    Thanks ahead of time!
    S

You can't sync can't sync iPod with multiple computers or libraries. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    Syncing Music to iPod

  • Multiple iPods with Multiple computers

I have two iPods and each syncs with a different machine. Each has a unique music library. What would happen if I switched iPods. i.e. plugging two different iPods into one machine? Will they somehow merge the libraries, or will iTunes just complain that I'm confused.
    Thanks,

  • Syncing my Ipod with my PC

I also accidentaly deleted my itunes. However not finding out how to restore them, I added them back on manually. Not knowing what will happen, I have not tried to update my IPod with this new library (on my PC), as it has the original library before the deletion.  The two libraries are not identical. If I try to update my IPod, what will happen? Will the sync work??
    Thanks,
    Sundance888

If it's formatted for usage with PCs, syncing it from a Mac may be slow, it can't store files which are 4GB or larger, and its firmware can't be updated from a Mac without restoring it.

  • HT1386 My husband and I traded ipod with each other. Now, I am unable to put my entire library on the ipod. Only some songs imported. HELP

My husband and I exchanged ipods with each other. I attempted to import my whole music library to this current ipod. only certain songs imported. Not all. How do I get the WHOLE library to this ipod?

if I sign in my iTunes on my husband's computer, will it delete his iTunes library?
LOL!  If Home Sharing deleted the other person's library, then Home Sharing wouldn't have too many users, would it?
Seriously, Home Sharing sounds like a fine solution to the need you express.
However, your question suggests that your library is not backed up, right?  You and your husband should each make a backup of your libraries.

  • Need help re-synching iPods with new computer and getting iTunes to...

Need help re-synching iPods with new computer and getting iTunes to recognize our iPods (it doesn't even recognize them when they're plugged in).
Hubby wiped my harddrive for me, so now I need to get everything back in proper places. I'm using windows XP and installed iTunes once again (I believe it's version 8). I also installed all of my iTunes songs. Now I need to know where to go from here. We have 3 iPods and I need to get them all synched once again. I know how to create different libraries for each of us, but I can't figure out how to get our songs back into our iTunes libraries. When I open iTunes and plug in an iPod, iTunes doesn't even show that an iPod is plugged in.
What do I do now to get each of our iPods synched with our own libraries?
    TIA
    Brandy

Thanks Zevoneer. The "Restart ipod service" worked and itunes is now recognizing my ipod! Hooray!
Okay, now how do I synch all of our ipods with our individual libraries (I don't want all of my kids' songs and vice versa)? We each have hundreds of songs on our ipods that we don't want to lose.
    Thanks again!
