2 laptops lose connection

Suddenly both laptops have lost connection with my wrt54g router. When i look at the connections, it says i'm connected but not connected. i have reentered the WEP key to no avail.
One computer indicates that a network cable is unplugged.
The name of the network seems to have changed also. Any ideas?
Thanks

If the name of your network has changed then one of two things has occured:
1)  You are mistakenly trying to connect to your neighbor's router, or
2)  You have been running an unsecured wireless system (probably with password = admin !!)  and your neighbor has accidently (or intentionally) changed your router settings.
To remedy this problem:
1)  Give your network a unique SSID.  Do not use "linksys".  Set your "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled".
2)  Give your router a strong login password
3)  Setup wireless security on your router.

Assuming this does not happen at a specific time of day but randomly when ever she connects, she may need to power cycle the modem/router, with the MBP off, after it reestablishes connection and IP addresses, then power up the MBP and reconnect.

  • WRT610N - Both laptops lose connection to access point intermittently

I've tried searching the forums a little but don't see my exact issue.
I have a WRT610N and two laptops (one Windows7 connected over N 5ghz and the other XP connecting over A 5ghz). From time to time, but at least twice a day, especially when doing a heavy download or streaming media, the laptop connection to the access point will be dropped.  I have to disconnect from the wireless network and reconnect.
I verified that I was running the latest firmware.  I never had to upgrade, was shipped with 2.00.00.05. THe 5ghz network uses WPA2 security and I tried switching from AES only to TKIP and AES.  I also tried changing the key renewal interval.  One laptop has a DHCP reservation and the other is allowed to get whatever IP.  20 or 40 Mhtz channel width is set to auto.
If anyone has any ideas of things to try before I go return the thing I would appreciate it.

  • Officejet Pro l7580 Constantly loses connection to wireless laptop!!

    Hi and thanks for helping.
I have an Offiecejet Pro L7580 and use it on my network, servicing a desktop and a laptop. The desktop is wired to the router while the laptop is wireless. Concerning my desktop, the printer connection is solid. It is 100% dependable. My laptop is a completely different story. I noticed that it would connect just fine and print, scan, etc... But after about 10-15 minutes it tells me that it is disconnected. This has been a continuous problem. Both systems use win.7 Ultimate 64 bit.
I found out that if I go into my D-Link DI-524 wireless router and change my wireless channel from one to another, it automatically reconnects. This means that my printer... or laptop is losing a connection due to channel activity. I have tried multiple channels in case of wireless interference from other devices. It happens all the same. This either sounds like a printer firmware problem that loses connection when the router channel cycles, or my laptops network card (even though I never lose connection to the internet). My laptop uses a buffalo mini usb wifi adapter (thanks to a widely known problem of DV series factory defects).
Please help me find out what the problem is.
    Thanks,
    Jason

Here are a few things to try:
    1. Update the firmware on your router.
    2. Set a static IP address for your printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). Yours is 192.168.0.100 to .199  Enter 192.168.0 220 for the IP address.
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Leave the gateway and DNS blank. Click 'Apply'
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • IPad3 loses connection to home network and same happens to laptops.

I purchased the new IPad a week ago. Since then, I often lose connection to home network. Cannot join network unless I power off and on the modem/router. This also hapens every morning. The same is now happening with our  wireless laptops.  Never had any problems all these years until the iPad was introduced to our network. Our Internet provider confirmed that modem/router protocols were set per advice from Apple Support and they did additional tweaking but problem persists. I am thinking of getting a new modem and router but wonder if it is worth it. Has anyone had similar problems where their other devices are having the same connection issues as the iPad? Thanks.

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • My wifi loses connection to my phone and laptop at the same time every 30 mins or so.

    Hey all.
I have a WRT160 V2 router with firmware  v2.0.02. I have had the router for years without any problems. A few months ago I have started to see an issue where I lose connection to my internet on my laptop, and wifi on my phone at the same time. I have wifi calling on my phone and it disconnects also at the same time. All of a sudden, everything will stop working, then about 40 seconds later, it all works again. I lost the connection maybe every 30 to 60 mins
Does anyone have an idea what can be causing this issue? Thank you.
It is really annoying because I rely on wifi calling for my primary phone, and I end up getting cut off when talking to people. BTW wifi calling is for all tmobile phones, but also normal wifi to surf the web on my laptop and phone drops too at the same time.

I would suggest that you isolate the problem. You may start the isolation by connecting a computer directly to the router (hard wired connection). Observe the connection for couple of hours. If the connection is stable, problem might be on the wireless settings of the rotuer. If the connection is not stable, do further isolation. Connect the computer directly to your modem. Observe the connection for couple of hours. If the connection is not stable, call your internet service provider. If the connection is stable, problem might be on the router itself. Upgrade the firmware first (firmware available in the website: Ver.2.0.03 Build 9). After the upgrade, reset and reconfigure your router.

  • HT1365 just installed a new wireless router (cisco linkseys E1200) and our apple laptops connect fine on one floor but lose connectivity when moved to another.  Other non apple laptops & Ipad connect with no problem no matter what floor they are on

We just installed a new wireless router to our main PC.  It's a Cisco Linkseys E1200.  All other wireless devices were able to connect without a problem, including my Ipad.  We have 2 Macbook Pro laptops.  They both connect just fine when on the same floor of our house as the router, but when we take them upstairs to the 2nd floor of the house, they lose connectivity and it states the wireless password is not the correct password.  All other 2nd floor laptops have no problem at all with connectivity no matter where they are in the house.  Please help- my husband is on the verge of selling Apple if that cannot be remedied.

This would not be a security issue symptom. I would consider checking for sources of wireless interference HT1365

  • BTN200 loses connection to laptop if not used for a period of time.

Is there a way to turn off or increase the inactivity time out on this headset... seems it is too short of time... i keep having to power on the devices... it is fully charged as i received the item on Friday, charged it on Sunday and using it today for the first time so battery cannot be dead... please help it is annoying to keep having to hit power button to connect.
Actually, working more with the device what happens is if i move away from my laptop, the connection gets lost and then the power goes off after a while in which case i have to hit the power button for few seconds to reconnect the headphones... so my question is there a way to increase the power off timing?
well i ran some timing and the headphones will lose connection after 7mn if not within range of laptop, then shut down after 5mn... but if headphones is always near the laptop it will never lose connection so it's all good.
Device is working great i just needed to learn how it is working.... Great device!!!!! love it!!!

    Settings/General/Reset/Erase all Contents and Settings
Then your brother can set it up as a new iPad.
If you do this, you will lose non-iTunes-purchased music, photos, documents, saved progression of games, saved settings on other apps, etc. unless they are backed up somewhere else such as on a computer or through iCloud. After all, you are erasing all content and settings. It won't affect your iCloud stuff such as apps and music you bought through iTunes; you can re-download all that through iTunes. You can also redownload iCloud mail from the iCloud server.

  • Airport loses connection sometimes

Hi guys....need help! I bought my macbook pro 13 inch some time in September 2009. Brand new. Up until 2-3 months ago, things were running smoothly in regards to my wireless connection. Lately (for the past 2-3 months) when I close the lid of the macbook (put to sleep) or shutdown and then reboot or bring back from sleep, my airport does not connect to my wireless connection. It shows my wireless network in the list, the password is also still stored but when I hit connect, it says connection failed. The only way it will reconnect is if I unplug the wireless router and plug it back in again. IT instantly connects after that. Also, the problem is sporadic, meaning that sometimes i can put the mac to sleep/reboot and it will not lose connection. This is driving me crazy. I need help. It cannot be the router because other Windows laptops in my house are running fine! Also my iphone does not lose the wifi connection, its just the macbook pro. Any suggestions please??

This is a known complaint in other threads. I don't think I have found a conclusive solution but a work around. There have been posts that the router upgrade fixes or a different router.
Keep pinging something to keep the connection:
Temporary workaround that works for some:
As soon as you connect to your wireless network, Open Terminal and start a ping going. Use your router IP address; but any local address will do:
    If your router has an IP address of 10.10.10.1, then open Terminal (in your Applications ---> Utilities folder) and type;
    ping 10.10.10.1 <return>
You'll see a string that looks like:
    64 bytes from 10.10.10.1: icmp_seq=728 ttl=64 time=1.527 ms
    64 bytes from 10.10.10.1: icmp_seq=729 ttl=64 time=1.513 ms
    64 bytes from 10.10.10.1: icmp_seq=730 ttl=64 time=1.203 ms
    64 bytes from 10.10.10.1: icmp_seq=731 ttl=64 time=1.684 ms
    64 bytes from 10.10.10.1: icmp_seq=732 ttl=64 time=1.063 ms
Your routers adress can be found under:
    system preferences > network > airport > advanced... > TCP/IP
This keeps the connection active. It even survives sleep/wake.
I think people using this work around have it running all the time. But in your case you could start when you leave your computer. I think it you stop when you close that terminal window (I suppose there is a stop ping command I should look up).

  • Airport loses connection with MR814 V2

I have an iBook G4. My Airport loses connection with my Netgear MR814 V2 router. The only way to get it back is to unplug / plugin the router. The connection is ok as long as I'm on the iBook. The problem seems to occur after I've shut the iBook down for the day and then the next day the connection is gone.
I also have my Windows based Dell laptop using the router (wirelessly) and never have this problem.
This is really frustrating. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

I do not have the answer for you, but I am suffering the same thing with my macBook Pro. After about 15 minutes, I loses the connection, and the airport icon in the menu bar goes transparent. Nothing works to renew the connection except to unplug and re-plug my router. If you hear of any remedy, please post.

  • Audio interface loses connection

    Hi
I've recently bought myself two audio interfaces: Edirol FA-66 and Mackie Tapco firewire, both with two combo inputs and firewire 400 connection. When i connect either one of them to my macbook pro (2,53 GHz), it works for a while and suddenly loses connection. The sound plays for a few seconds through my internal speakers and most of the time, it reconnects after a couple of seconds back to the audio interface. Could this possibly have anything to do with snow leopard? (I think I've read something about this). Or would it be something else? (I'm thinking of the FW400->FW800 cable I'm using, some kind of problem with the processor,... ).
As I am intending to use my laptop for live performances, this problem really needs to get solved...
I'd be very thankful for any suggestion
    greetings
    Kobe

Well I'm hoping I'll just take it back to the Apple service center and they'll magically fix it (since it's not even a year old!), but I get the feeling I'm going to get fobbed off with some lame excuse, to which they'll get a piece of my mind!
I've tried the Motu 828mk3 on my 5 year old PC running Windows 7 and it works, so I'm doubtful the problem is with the Motu unit. I've tried practically everything... reset the SMC, reset the PRAM, reset the MOTU, plugged in an external firewire drive/hub and chained the MOTU, toggled the optical inputs/outputs and nothing seems to work. The only things I haven't tried (that I can think of) are:
    a) another 800 to 400 firewire cable (I've only just bought this one so I'm loathe to spend extra on another to find out it doesn't solve the problem).
    b) a clean re-install of OSX (think I'll leave that to the Apple guys and gals).
    c) an express card with firewire 400 ports (again I'm loathe to spend money on this unless I KNOW it will solve the problem).

  • Apps randomly lose connectivity

Hi, i have a problem with internet connectivity with random apps. While I am on my home WiFi in random time random apps loose connectivity while other apps can access internet. I am on nokia lumia 925. Once i restart my phone the connectivity is back for few hours until it drops randomly again.
please help, it's really annoying. Thank you.

Ok, I have tried a soft reset and rebooting my phone, and all store updates.. (i'm not sure about firmeware, how to).
Now I have noticed that MOST of the apps (if not all) lose connectivity, but once I turn off, and back on, WIFI it everything works fine (for an hour or two)
Could it be the router (it doesn't happend on my pc, laptop and my old galaxy s2..

  • PLWK400 loses connection to internet

    Hello:
I recently purchased and installed the Linksys PLWK400 Powerline AV Wireless Network Extender kit to my home Local Access Network (LAN). To access the internet, I use a Motorola SURFboard cable modem/wi-fi router (model #SBG6580). My Internet service (ISP) through DirecTV.
The problem I am having is since I've installed the PLWK400 on my LAN, my wireless devices (laptops, smartphones, etc.) lose internet connectivity after a certain amount of time and I have to reboot (power cycle) my router to regain the connectivity. After I manually reboot my router I will regain internet connectivity for sometimes up to a day or so, but then I cannot connect to the internet again and will have to manually reboot the router again...which seems to clear the issue once again.
Sometimes, I will only have connectivity to the internet for just a few hours and will have to reboot the router again. This frequent loss of internet access did NOT happen before I installed the PLWK400 kit on my LAN. To rule out other problems, I have uninstalled the PLWK400 kit for up to a week with no internet loss issues on my connected devices. Once I reinstall the PLWK400 kit it starts happening again. It keeps happening no matter how I configure the PLE400 or PLW400 devices. I have tried to setup the PLWK400 kit using the default encryption and SSID it generates right out of the box and I've also tried assigning my own SSID and advanced encryption (where I assign an SSID and encryption type that matches my router's). Either way, my wireless devices ultimately lose connection to the internet. Again, this does NOT happen when the PLWK400 kit is NOT installed on my LAN. I believe the issue may be related to my router being on default DHCP settings and my ISP renewing it's assigned IP to my router (IP lease?) about every 24 hours or so. It seems like when this happens I lose internet connectivity while my PLWK400 is installed on the LAN. The only fiix seems to be a hard reboot of my router. Which again seems to fix the connectivity issue for about a day.
Additional information: I have made sure I am using the same assigned network key for both the PLE400 and the PLW400. Also...when I do lose internet connectivity I can still see the PLW400's SSID being broadcast when I perform a network scan. This tells me that the signal is still being sent from my wifi router through the PLE400 to the PLW400 and being emitted, but for some reason I cannot access the internet and am forced to have to reboot my router to gain internet connectivity.
Any advice or feedback you may have on what may be causing this problem would be appreciated. Or, any suggestions on how to fix it would be really appreciated. I've also tried assigning a static IP address to the PLW400 through it's online utility and also tried extending the IP lease time-frame to my devices on my router's internal settings. These actions have not worked. I still lose internet connectivity sometimes after a few hourse but mostly after about a day. I really enjoy the additional range of wi-fi in my home that the PLWK400 enables, but having to continually reboot my router to maintain connectivity to the internet is very inconvenient.

Try giving the PLW400 different SSID's so no two are the same. This will allow for more detailed troubleshooting.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • My iMac loses connection to my AirPort several times a day.

My iMac loses connection to my AirPort several times a day, and I have to manually select the AirPort each time.  My other devices (laptops, iPads, iPhone) never lose connectivity to the AirPort - just the iMac.  What is going on?  It is just inconvenient to take the extra steps to reconnect my Wi-Fi every time I want to use my iMac.

Make sure your system is up to date with all available Software Updates since this problem was supposed to have been fixed some months ago, but I understand it remains for some users.
Assuming everything is up to date, try this: Using the Finder's Go > Go to Folder... menu, open the following folder
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Drag these three files to the Desktop:
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    com.apple.network.identification.plist
    preferences.plist
This will only make copies of them. If they still exist in the folder, select each of them and then drag them to the Trash. You will need to authenticate with your Administrator name and password.
Restart your Mac and log in again. Your wireless network will not be selected automatically, so select it from the Wi-Fi menu. The three Preference files above will be replaced with new ones.
Use the Mac and determine if this made any difference. If you think it's fixed, you can drag the three files from the Desktop to the Trash. If not, you can always drag them back to the original folder. You will have to authenticate again, and your previous network preferences will be restored.
