2 Libraries - Preferences Keep Changing

Hi
My husband and I have to use the same (new) laptop for our iPods. I've already populated my library with items on my iPod. I also created a second library for him, but when I go into Edit > Preferences for his library, the General tab shows my library's name and the Advanced tab displays my music location. I am able to change them to his information, but when I open my library, the preferences show his library name and music location. What am I doing wrong? - Any help is greatly appreciated!

Welcome to AD!
You are running into what I consider a big design flaw with using multiple libraries. Namely, different preferences are not allowed for different libraries within the same windows user account.
The iTunesPrefs.XML file is stored here on XP
C:\Documents and Settings\ username \Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes
And apparently, a few other places as well.
All the libraries use it - so they all display the same library name and use the same folders, etc. Change the preferences while using one library, and odd things could start happening in the other.
itunes menu > help > provide itunes feedback
I've asked for the preferences to follow the library, not the user. The more people who ask for it to be changed, the greater chance of it acutally happening.
Meanwhile, you can look into using Method 1 from this article (you are currently using method 3). If you have different Windows accounts, the preferences will stay sorted. But you'll have to dork around sharing music between the 2 windows accounts.

  • Flash player preferences keep changing

    Hi everybody,
My Flash Player preferences (in the preferences pane) keep returning to the default settings after i have made changes to the settings. It seems to take about a week between the time i set the preferences till they return back to the default settings.
As an example, about a week ago i set the "Storage" tab to "Block all sites from storing information on this computer." Last night i checked the preferences and this same tab had been changed back to the default choice, "Allow sites from storing information on this computer." Same thing for the "Camera and Mic" tab, i check the "block all sites", then in a week or so it goes back to "Ask me."
This is occuring across all the tabs in the Flash Player preferences.
    Any ideas?
    Paul

    FredtheRed,
This discussion is almost two years old - and, hopefully, the OP had his/her problem 'fixed' sometime between those years.
Which version of Flash Player are you using and what exactly are your problems?

  • Language & Text Preferences keep changing

I have Mac OS 10.6.5 installed and I'm having some trouble with my Format preferences. I set it to Brazilian and it changes back to US Format for no reason, so when I'm using Excel 2011 I keep getting US$ 2,100.00 instead of R$ 2.100,00, for instance.

    when I'm using Excel 2011
I'm not sure sure that MS stuff uses the Mac system settings. You might want to see if it has its own. Also there is a forum devoted to their problems:

  • Expose Preferences Keep Changing Themselves

I have Active Screen Corners activated for Expose. However the upper left corner keeps unactivating itself. Is there any way for me to track this preference in the system to see what is modifying it?

I'm having this same problem on a dual 1.25 g4 running 10.4.7 - my exposé settings aren't being remembered it seems, much as you have described.
Mine however have a regular pattern to them - it happens after each launch of a game I run on that machine, World of Warcraft. I reset the exposé settings, they work fine, but after I launch and quit the game, they are back to all turned off. I'm sure it has something to do with the way the game overrides regular keyboard commands/bindings. Not that big of a deal, just though I'd throw it in there that it happens on my machine too, and why.
I'll try deleting that .plist file, thanks for the tip.

  • Network Preferences keep changing

    Hello All
Every time I start up my old G3 iMac (OS 10.2), the network preferences change from "USB Modem" to "Internal Modem", this is despite the preferences being locked. Also, when I try to change back, the USB Modem isn't even listed. It usually reappears as an unchecked item in the list with a further restart.
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers

You may have to see if doing the basic stuff helps; since a
first thing could be to 'repair disk permissions' in the system
using Disk Utility's first aid. Could be a minor thing and not
something more difficult. I often boot into SafeBoot and then
repair disk permissions, then exit disk utility, and restart.
If the actual system is somehow corrupted - after trying repairs
of permissions - then later, maybe try to boot from the Installer disc
& use the Disk Utility there, different than the system's own) to
'repair disk' and 'repair disk permissions.' That version of D.U.
is hiding in a drop-down menu found in the menu options under
the Installer name, after startup from the system disc media.
Do not run the Installer itself, since that's not where D.U. is.
And, if repairing permissions and other stuff doesn't seem to help
and resetting PRAM/NVRAM doesn't, you may have to consider
using the Installer and have run an 'Archive & Install' and set it to
save user settings from the old system into a new one. Then, you
would have a new system folder & a non-functioning previous one.
This may require more work to get it back to where you had it; &
it would need to be upgraded again with the 10.2.8 Combo file plus
any security or other updates applied, too.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Bluetooth Preferences Keep Changing

I have my bluetooth mouse preference set so that bluetooth devices won't wake the computer. About once a week, the computer decides to change it so that bluetooth devices will wake the computer. What gives? It's getting pretty frustrating.
Also, the computer is frequently slow to discover the mouse when waking. I have to use a USB mouse, go to the bluetooth icon and set up a new device so that the computer will find the mouse.
The mouse is a pre-mighty mouse bluetooth, and the the computer is a PowerMac G5 2.0 GHz dual CPU, running OS 10.4.10.
    Thanks in advance.

    HI Bud,
Try trashing the Bluetooth preference file, here's how:
    Locate this file: com.apple.bluethooth.plist
    It's here: /Home/Library/Preferences
Open the Preferences folder, locate that file and drag it to the Trash. Empty the Trash and reboot.
See if that makes a difference ...

  • Flash Player preference settings keep changing

Under System Preferences, my Flash Player settings keep changing every so often (every few weeks or so), in the Storage, Camera and Mic and Playback tabs.
I have all three tabs set to Block and the settings change to Allow or Ask me.
Why is this happening and what can I do to stop it?
Thanks in advance for any help.

This solved my problem partially, all I want is that Firefox keeps my Flash saves while I clear the history log.
Your way works too, now, instead of clearing the history log through the browser, I use CCleaner.

  • My display keeps changing to 800x600 after upgrade to 10.8.3

After upgrading to 10.8.3 my display keeps changing to 800x600 after it wakes up from sleep. I have to go to preferences and set again, and it works. It is quite annoying. Any clue.

    Not much to go on.
What monitor and connection method are you using with the mac Mini..?
Have you tried resetting the > NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.

  • Safari 5.1.2 keeps changing text field randomly on text input

    Hello everybody.
Safari keeps changing the text field on input, do you know how to correct this issue?
    Here is an example:
Let's say I load www.google.com, it appears in the safari window as usual.
Suppose I begin to type a search in the google search field at the top right of the safari window (not the one on the google page)
if when doing this the sentence is long for the search, at some point randomly, the rest of the text will be entered this time in the google search text field on the google page! (which is the very next text field) So when I hit enter it makes google search half of my request...
Safari changed the text field I was into with no warning. I want to say I do not press tab at any moment.
This is annoying really, and this does not appear anywhere else than in Safari. It seems the issue is not systematic, but appears quite often.
I have no universal access setting except "enable access for assistive device"
I had to check this box upon installing a software in the past but I can't remember what it was.
Perhaps the problem I have is linked to some window refreshing?
Thank you for your suggestions or help
    Mac Pro, 10.6.8

Try deleting the cache associated with Safari ...
    Quit Safari.
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db.
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari to test.
I had to check this box upon installing a software in the past but I can't remember what it was.
Open System Preferences > Universal Access
Make sure the box next to:  Enable access for aassitive devices is deselected.

  • Name of computer keeps changing to My ***** (2)

I have changed the name of my computer 8 times today in settings/sharing to remove the (2) after the computer name. The last time I changed it and before I could do anything the name changed! After putting the name back, the computer will again show up in the shared computer area of the finder
There are some apps that won't sync unless the computer name is correct.
What is causing the computer name to keep changing? It used to happen occasionally, this many  times times in one day is absurd! It just changed again while I was typing this question.

There are several possible causes for this behavior.
    1. Two (or more) computers on the local network have the same Bonjour name, such as "X's-MacBook-Pro.local". Resolve the name conflict by renaming one or more of them in the Sharing preference pane.
    2. You have two simultaneous connections to the same local network: probably Ethernet and Wi-Fi. If applicable, disconnect the Ethernet cable or turn off Wi-Fi.
    3. A Mac wakes from sleep due to network traffic. This is a bug in OS X that may only affect some models. You can avoid it as follows:
Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences and unlock the settings, if necessary. Select the Power Adapter  tab, if there is one. Uncheck the box marked
              Wake for Wi-Fi network access
    if it's checked.
    4. A device that gets its network address from the router wakes from sleep, and the address it was using before has been assigned to another device.
    5. A third-party wireless router has incompatible settings or firmware. In that case, refer to the manufacturer or ISP for support. Restarting the router may help, temporarily.
    6. If the router is an Apple device, it may need to be restarted.
    7. A third-party Bonjour device on the network is malfunctioning. Finding out which is a process of elimination.
    8. There is more than one DHCP server on the network. Typically, there would be two or more wireless access points configured to act as routers.
    9. See this support article.
    10. Back up all data. Make notes of your settings in the Network preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. You will need to recreate the network settings.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

The sequence and clip name on a particular project keeps changing. It usually takes the name of of an audio file. Deleting the preferences, opening the timeline in a new project, making it offline and reconnecting it again, et. all doesn't help ? What is causing this ? HELP

Anyone has a solution for this....
    Jp

I made the sequence off line and save it as a new project. Then deleted the preferences and opened the project..... reconnected the media. Most of the clips showed the correct clip name and the sequence name also didn't change. But a few audio tracks still had the old problem....
Thanks for the reply.... haven't updated yet..
