2 libraries with NAS

just bought a buffalo linkstation and have it up and running. i logged onto my network account, moved my itunes songs and itune folder to the NAS and labeled it "mikesmusic". then logged onto my wifes network account and did the same for hers, calling her NAS folder "glennsmusic". the problem is itunes seems to only be able to use one itunes folder, or am i doing something wrong? when i point itunes to the itunes folder in "mikesmusic" it works fine in mine. but when i log out, and log onto her itunes, it says it can't find the itunes library? i point it to the itunes folder under "glennsmusic" and it works fine. but then i log out, back into mine and now mine says it can't find the itunes library. i have also noticed that everytime i log in and out it creates a trash file of duplicate songs? do i have something set up wrong? if i can only use one library, then who's should i choose of the two?

You seem to be finding both Libraries from what you just described. I assume that you mean that you would like to merge the two libraries into one? Otherwise it is as you have found, you can only run one at a time. That is the way iTunes is designed.
Or is it that you have to re-locate the library each time? The way to switch between libraries is to hold the option key down when you launch iTunes and then Choose Library..

We are having an issue with our users attempting to synchronize document libraries with OneDrive for Business. When a user tried to synchronize the document library either via the "SYNC" button on the document library page using IE or by
manually entering the document libraries path into the OneDrive for Business desktop app they receive the following error
"We can't connect to the specified SharePoint site". The users have the Edit permission to both the site and the document library. I have performed the following actions in attempt to get the synchronization to work.
1. Tested giving user the owner permission to the site and document library. same result.
2. Performed a repair on the users Office 2013 installation.
An interesting point to note is that I myself am able to synchronize the document libraries using both the "SYNC" button on the document library site and by entering the path manually in the desktop app. Difference between my account and the test
accounts is that I'm a site collection administrator and farm administrator. Can anyone shed some light onto this issue?

According to your description, my understanding is that the users cannot sync document libraries with OneDrive for Business.
I recommend to check the Permission Level to see if the Use Client Integration Features permission is selected.
If not, check this permission in the corresponding permission level which is granted to the users.
Please also check if the users have the right permission to sync the document library with OneDrive for Business.

TS2972 I would like to share my iTunes libraries with my Apple TV from both my iMac and Macbook Pro, but I use the same iTunes account on both devices. Is it possible to link my Apple TV to both devices at the same time?

I recently purchased an Apple TV, and I currently have it linked to my iMac with my iTunes account. I also have a newer MacBook Pro that has some different iTunes media on it than my iMac does, but they share iTunes accounts. Is it possible to link both devices at the same time, have access to media on both computers, and use the same iTunes account on both computers?? It seems Apple TV will only link to one iTunes account per computer, but can access multiple computers if different iTunes accounts are activated on those computers.

You can share multiple libraries with the Apple TV, they don't even need to use the same iTunes account. Just make sure that you use the same ID for homesharing on all devices.

Best way to set up home network with NAS

I'm pretty novice with networking, but do have some knowledge and know what I am trying to accomplish, but the two just aren't clicking.
Here's what I'd like to do: Have a storage central to our home office, which consists of two iMacs, a MacBook Pro, iPad, two wireless printers, two iPhones. I just purchased a 6TB Lacie 2big NAS and the 6th gen AirPort Extreme. Currently, I am able to access the storage wirelessly just fine, which is great, but I am working with large files (10gb-60gb) and needing to move them a little quicker. Most of the time, these files are being dumped onto the one iMac by way of Compact Flash cards via a highspeed card reader. I need to be able to access those files from (most importantly) the iMacs and (not so importantly) the MBP, which again, I can right now, but the transfer from CF card to iMac to NAS takes way too long wirelessly. So, what are my options? Do I get two more gigabit Ethernet cables and run them from the iMacs directly into the other two ports on the AirPort Extreme or should I purchase a separate gigabit switch then connect that with NAS and two iMacs or is there another option that will give me optimal transfer speeds from either iMac (including external HD's attached to the iMacs) to the NAS?

If you have the AirPort base station set to "bridge", then the signal will pass through the AirPort and on to your modem/router which will do the actual "routing".
That's OK, as long as the modem/router also has 1,000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet ports.
However.....if the modem/router has slower 10/100 Mpbs ports, the Gigabit signal will slow down by a factor of 10 passing through your router, and file transfers will be much, much slower, as you can imagine.
Another way of saying the same thing is that to get faster Gigabit speeds, everything has to be Gigabit capable.
Unfortunately, Bridge Mode is the correct network setting for the AirPort Extreme if you have a modem/router "upstream" on the network. Then you may get caught in a Catch 22 situation.

No, speed will not be affected either way, since it makes no difference how things are set up....so choose the setup that is easiest to implement.
In other words, if it is easier to run a single Ethernet cable from the AirPort Extreme to the Gigabit switch and plug other devices into the switch, then that is the way to go. The performance will be the same as if you had run two separate Ethernet cables to the AirPort Extreme.

Problem opening documents from SharePoint (2013) libraries with Office 2010 and 2013 components installed

I've been encountering the problem of Office files failing to open from SharePoint 2013 libraries with the prefix of 'ms-excel:ofv|u|' etc. in the url. Following the
helpful questions and answers in the forum, I've identified the likely cause as the fact that my main Office installation is 2010, but I also have installed OneDrive for Business 2013 (which I need in order to sync document libraries with my local drive).
The solution I've seen suggested elsewhere of deactivating the SharePoint integration of Office 2013 components fails for two reasons: there is no way (or at least, I can't find one) of deactivating SharePoint integration probably because, deactivating
SharePoint integration would likely stop the syncing of libraries/folders.
One thing that I have noticed in my case that I've not seen mentioned elsewhere is that if I right-click a document and select 'open in new tab/window' the required
document opens directly in the relevant office package. I don't know if this is a useful observation, but it seems to be new information.
My question is, is there a way I can continue to sync libraries and open Office documents directly in Office 2010? My thoughts are possible changes to registry settings
(which I can do, but don't know enough to find the correct ones myself) or (re)installation of software in some appropriate order to leave the correct settings.
I have 'repaired' my Office 2010 installation without any observed affect on behavior.

Can I use multiple iPhoto libraries with Aperture?

I've been using iPhoto to manage my photos (successfully) for many years. I have multiple themed iPhoto libraries with many thousands of photos in them (ten years' worth of digital plus another fifty years scanned). I am thinking of downloading Aperture and giving it a try (thanks to an App Store gift card).
Can I use Aperture to edit photos within these iPhoto libraries? Do the libraries become "common" to both applications, or does duplication occur? I have limited hard drive space and don't want to create large duplicate files on my iMac.

You could make each of your "themed Libraries" a Folder in Aperture, with all your current Projects and Albums intact. The newest version of Aperture (3.3.1) leans in this direction. For the first time there is a default division between Project storage and Album storage (one the Library tab of the Inspector, there are now two built-in top-level containers, one for Projects and one for Albums).
A separate issue is where on your system your Library and your Originals are stored. Aperture allows you to move your Originals to storage on external drives or other non-system drives. The limitation of the storage available on the system drive is something that all active photographers encounter at some point. (In Aperture-speak, you would convert Image's Originals from Managed to Referenced using "File➞Relocate Originals". This isn't something I'd look into right away, but rather after you become familiar with the Aperture interface.

Check for libraries with a startup script

Is it possible to check for open libraries with a startup script? Currently, i'm trying like this:

If InDesign is already open, this code works correctly (that is, if the library is open, nothing happens, otherwise it opens the library). However, if I place this in the startup script folder, it will open a second (third, fourth, etc.) copy of the library, even if the library is already open.
I think this happens because the library files are opened later in the startup sequence then the startup scripts are run. Is there any way to work around this?

Anyway, InDesign CS4 seems to reopen the libraries before launching startup scripts, so the following code works for me:

Does time machine work with NAS?

I'm planning to buy one of those cool 3TB NAS drives which can work with macs, windows, android and iOS. I wanted to know if TM backups can work with NAS?

AFP to a HFS+ volume on the NAS. Most manfuacturers had to update their firmware when Lion was released, due to changes in AFP, which is essential for TM. I'd imagine most product in the channel still has older firmware on it.
NAS manufacturers should list TM compatability as a feature, Netgear certainly do. If it isn't listed on the product page, a quick search should find forums with people asking about it.
I run my TM to a volume on my RAID1 1TB ReadyNAS. The NAS is connected to the router by ethernet and the laptop is on WiFi. Every hour it mounts, backs up and unmounts.

Place an alias in my "shared" folder and access this with the applications from the different accounts ? This seems to workt for the itunes library, at least... Or do I have to mess with the righs managent ?

Your advice helps very much, but only as long as I am still logged in with my user name. I does not work when only my kids are logged in. There has to be a way to use these libraries without the need to log in the user that has created those folders...

Attaching/Detaching libraries with Java API

In my forms (Forms10g), sometimes, libraries had been attached in lower case although files are in upper case. This causes compilation errors on UNIX systems.
I'm trying to detach these libraries with Java APIs and then reattach them in upper case.

We do something very simular. We rename everything to lowercase for the same reasons. I've pasted a snippet of the code we're using at the end of this post.

Problem using JSTL tag libraries with OC4J 9.0.3

I'm using the JSTL tag libraries with OC4J 9.0.3. I'm using JDeveloper10.1.2. I put the fmt.tld and c.tld in the WEB-INF directory and I'm adding the jstl.jar and standard.jar library to the EAR file. Both tlds have:
<tlib-version>1.0</tlib-version>
<jsp-version>1.2</jsp-version>
And OC4J 9.0.3 is compatible with tlib version 1.0 and jsp version 1.2. When I run the web app I get:

Shared Libraries with Apple OS & PCs in the same network...

We are currently in the process of updating InDesign files. Some of the InDesign users on the network are using InDesign from PC-based laptops. Others are using InDesign from Apple OS laptops. All are on Adobe CS5. One of the tasks of the rebrand is replacing a branded banner image at the top of the the layouts. We set up banner libraries with a limited number of images available which, when tested, could be shared between users. Previously all of the users were on the Apple OS platform. Some of the new users are on the PC platform. They are able to see the items when they open the library, but when they attempt to place the image on a photo layer from a PC, they have to follow a path to the location on the network and relink the image.
We're guessing its an Apple to PC problem similar to the issue of when you set up an alias in Apple OS, PCs sometimes don't recognize it.
Has anyone else had this problem? ...and come up with a solution?

Stop using libraries and start using folders of snippets. Combine that with minibridge and you should be good to go.
