2 microphones recording to Audition

I use Sennheiser wireless XLR lavalier mics to record 2 people during training videos and they are awesome. However, I've been using a Blue Snowball in an acoustic box for LMS voiceovers [audio only, same project]. I record in Audition because it allows me to lay down markers, and that's what I use for post, anyway.
I would like to know if it's possible to use 2 lavalier mics to record directly into Audition on my MacBook Pro instead. If the people don't get close enough to the Snowball, the recording is not always as clear as with the Sennheiser lavs on the videos. And it definitely doesn't have the same tone. Plus, it records identical L and R tracks, unlike the video tracks.
I'd like to replicate the sound for voiceovers. I don't necessarily need to use the Sennheiser lavs [they are XLR] but would consider buying additional mics and/or adapters if I can figure out how to record from two mics directly into my laptop.
I thought this would be a no-brainer, but didn't come up with much on the web.
I know I can use a Zoom or something similar, but then I'd be left without markers to let me know where to cut, etc. I like to do all of my basic edits [noise reduction, amplification, etc.] in one large file, then chop it into individual clips and do final edits [breathing, lip smacks, etc] in those. Otherwise it would take forever.
Any ideas? And thanks in advance.

Timmyg1978,
When you are viewing an image on the LCD, to change what information is displayed all you will need to do is press the <INFO> button.
In regards to using an external recorder, when the camera is in the process of recording or sitting idle, the signal coming out of the camera is not the same as what the final recorded video will be.  In order to get full HD video to the recorder, it must be recorded with the camera first, then played back into the recorder.  The limit will still be about 12 minutes of video.
Also, the EOS Rebel T3i does not have HD component outputs.  It outputs HD video via HDMI.

  • Zen V Plus stuck in microphone/recording mode HE

HiMy brand new Zen V Plus is stuck in microphone/recording mode. I've tried holding the back button (which is what you're stupposed to do for more options) but then it just starts recording. AFter I end the recording, I'm back in microphone mode again and can't get out. I've already tried turning on/off and resetting - nothing hel
    ps.
    Please help if you can!ThanksDucky

I'm also having this problem and would have tremendous appreciation for anyone who could offer a solution. My Zen V Plus worked well for about three months before this problem arose, and I really enjoyed having it, so it's very dissapointing to me that it's not working anymore.
The behavior: as soon as the player is turned on, it goes into locked mode, regardless of the position of the lock toggle switch. If I toggle the lock switch, it either wakes up and then immediately goes back into locked mode or simply doesn't respond. If I'm lucky, I can get it to actually unlock by toggling the switch many times in a row, but then it will return to locked mode after a few seconds.
A few more details: I have tried doing a hard reset. I am not having any trouble syncing the player to my computer. Also, this problem creeped up slowly: it started just happening once in a while, but now it happens every time I use the player.
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.

  • Record/Field Audit - however field on page is DERIVED record

    Hi,
We are on HCM/Campus Solutions 9.0, running PT 8.49.08.
We had a record/field audit in 8.0 on PERSONAL_DATA.VA_BENEFIT. Once we upgraded to 9, we lost that audit because PERSONAL_DATA was no longer used in the same fashion.
We tried to put a record/field audit on PERSON_SA.VA_BENEFIT; this is not capturing the changes.
I looked at one of the Bio Demo pages (Campus Community, Personal Information, Add/Update a Person) where VA_BENEFIT can be updated.
The page is SCC_PERS_USA_SBP, the field is actually DERIVED_PERDATA.VA_BENEFIT. I tried adding a Field Audit on this record/field combination, but this doesn’t work.
Has anyone audited a record/fields that the online pages references a different record, like a DERIVED work record, that is different from the real peoplesoft table where the data is stored?
Is there a way that I can track changes to this field?
    Thanks
    Pam

    Pam,
Auditing will only work on Table type record definitions. I'm not sure why it isn't working on the PERSON_SA table, but there are definitely some limitations to the record/field auditing capabilities. You will probably have to use Database Level Auditing, which is documented in the Data Management peoplebook.

  • Multitrack recording in audition cs6 - input hardware question

I use audition cs6 on win 7 pro for editing and hospital radio production work.  Soon to take delivery of a Sonifex S2 desk for the main studio and have a need to be able to record two seperate stereo outputs from the desk simultaneously (for example, speech tracks and music tracks) for ease in re-editing live broadcasts.
The desk has parallel analogue, AES/EBU and SPDIF outputs on both the main and audition busses so I could do with some advice on input hardware to give me the two stereo ASIO channels on the pc for recording by audition.  Latency isn't an issue in this case, and if the input hardware uses the digital outputs, the clock can be provided by the desk if necessary.
This is not a scenario that would be expanded, it is a fixed studio installation so 2 x stereo line inputs are all that will be required.  I just don't know what is suitable hardware.
Obviously cost is an issue, being a charity.
    Any advice welcomed!

  • T60 soundmax built in microphone records all the time, again! Vista

When using Audacity 1.2.6 and source set to "stereo mix", the soundmax drivers are again constantly mixing the microphone into the streaming audio, or other sound playback, such as VLC playing an .mp3 file.
When using Audacity 1.3.13 there is no "stereo mix" option to choose from, and again microphone is always recording when recording streaming media or other sound playback.
Using microsoft update this last week, for some reason microsoft has removed the 2009 update which corrected this problem.  Microsoft update says the 2007 drivers are now the latest soundmax drivers for my computer, and has changed them back.
I can't roll back or forward to the 2009 update.  I did not do any manual changes, all updates from microsoft are set to automatic.
Audacity only uses the system drivers, this is not their programs fault, this is a driver fault between vista and soundmax
please fix ASAP as my compute is now useless to me until its fixed!
BTW turning on stereo mix from Vista did not fix the probem, the microphone records even under selecting the input to CD.   If I mute the microphone, then there is no sound input under any input setting.

    hey midnightvisions,
uninstall the current audio drivers that you have. let windows install its generic drivers.
then test with audacity and see if you're able to use it as how it should be.
later on, visit http://support.lenovo.com and update your audio drivers accordingly

How do I disable the microphone recording thing on imessage?  Siri is not activated but still the icon for the microphone is there and twice I have sent recordings by mistake - NOT good!

Thank you.  I just wanted to check I was not being totally dim, such a shame there is no way to disable it, I struggle with my dexterity and have somehow managed to push, hold, record and send things to two different people today, totally by accident but with unpleasant results!
Hopefully Apple will move/change this function so that it can be disabled.  For sure I am not the only one who has made this mistake!

  • Recording into Audition 3.0 via Behringer UFO202 USB audio device

I am running Audition 3.0 on a PC with Windows 7 Home Premium.  This may not be the proper place for this question, but I was not able to put it on the Adobe Audition 3.0 and earlier forum.
I am trying to record cassettes into Audition via a Behringer UFO202 USB device.  I plug in the USB and my computer sees it and I can hear via the headphone output that it is playing.  I go to the Windows Recording Mixer and it indicates that a USB audio device is working.  However, I cannot get the sound into Audition.  It doesn't show up when I record to the edit window or click on the meters to monitor.
I am also using a HT Omega Sound Card, but their support said that it shouldn't interfere.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thank you,
    New Orleans Audition User

Unfortunately you cannot reduce the levels of audio on it's way into Audition. Audition just records whatever the audio interface sends it. If the levels are that high when recorded into Audition then it is likely that you could be overloading the input to the Behringer interface. You need to somehow reduce the level at source in the analogue domain. Once it is in the audio interface at too high a level then any distortion caused will be burnt into the digital audio file and you won't be able to get rid of it.

  • Is there and ipad app that allows you to record and edit audio, but can record in the background?  This would be to record voiceover auditions/podcasts while reading a script

Hi wondering if anyone might be able to help me out.  I am an audio engineer and my wife is a voiceover artist.  We just got the ipad thinking she could record her voiceover auditions on the go, but we can't for the life of us figure out how to record audio while reading a script off of her email.
    Looking for an app that:
Either can record audio while in the background (garageband cannot)
OR Import text (copy paste I guess?) to read while recording
The app needs to  be able to edit audio and export or email out an MP3 - by edit audio I mean trim, fades, and move around sections.
Anyone have any thoughts on how to do this?  I have been looking around the web for answers for hours and can't find any.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi-  I've done a lot of research in this area and actually am just finishing a book on this subject which will soon be in the iBookstore.
The best app is TwistedWave.  It allows easy editing and recording, and also allows you record while you are in another app (such as a script your agent sent in your email)
I recommend MiC by Apogee as your microphone, available at the Apple store.
My book which goes in depth in how to get the best sound as well as how to edit is called:
    iVoiceover
    Super. Simple. Recording.
I'll post here when it's live in the iBookstore!

  • Microphone record sample rate problem

Good day. Our company is developing a Flash-application for audio processing
purporses. We encountered the following problem: when we use flash.media.Microphone
object (ActionScript 3) with "rate" property set to 22kHz or 44kHz then
using a spectrum analysis tool it is clear that
actual sampling frequency of recording is 16kHz (instead of 22kHz or 44kHz) which is
too low for high quality voice recording.
Is there any way to solve this problem?
PS. We trying to compile our flash movie under version of player 10.3,11.1,11.2 in CS5 and in CS6  and we have the same result.
PPS. More tested getMicrophone and getEnhancedMicrophone. When microphone initialized with getMicrophone, quality of recorded data is same as rate property of microphone object. When  initialized with getEnhancedMicrophone the sample rate of recorded data is 16kHz (view using a spectrum analysis tool. Adobe audition for example). looks like a BUG in flash player.

Some of this is a bit disinenuous.  I don't know any "professional" audio engineer that is using on-chip audio.  All pro engineers I know-on PC based machines-are using ASIO and professional level interfaces whether PCIe or 1394.  The OS is a non starter in that regard.  For all the crying about Win7, I just haven't had the issues or problems that seem to make it grossly inadequate for some of my colleagues on this forum.
Unfortunately (perhaps for them?) I know many many professional audio users who mix and match external asio, external wdm, internal on-board wdm drivers. They may not be engineers, although some will be, but they are professionals. An external audio interface running wdm drivers may well be affected by Microsoft settings.
The people I know use laptops, and include professional music writers and critics, broadcast and print journalists, composers, forensic experts and so on. They need to be able to play back occasionally over the laptop speakers and, if they have to listen or work with material from on-line sources, they will often have to use the wdm drivers with their professional audio interface.
Many of them have moved successfully from XP to Windows 7, but they do have to be aware of the possible problems. I find that it takes time to get them set up and running comfortably in Windows 7, but it can be done.
The trouble is that this software is used by so many people in so many different circumstances.

  • USB microphone recording

Hi, I recently picked up the HpX360 and there is a problem when I am recording with my Samson Go Mic (USB microphone). There is constant static in my recordings. I know that it is not background noise because this static is occuring when my recording volume is on 0. Secondly, I know it is not the microphone's problem because the microphone works fine on my friend's laptop. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the sound and samson go mic drivers. I've tried using different USB ports. I've tried changing the sample rate and the bit depth, but the static is still there. I'm wondering if it is an internal error with my laptop? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Problem 1. You can't normally alter the level of a USB mic via the usual Windows Sound Mixer page since USB audio goes direct digitally into Audition not via your on board analogue sound card.
Problem 2 is a fairly common problem using USB audio devices with laptops. May go away if you run the laptop from it's internal batteries rather than from the mains supply.

  • How do I master a voice recording in Audition CS5?

Hi, I want to record myself playing the guitar and singing over the top, however although I am more than capable on the guitar I can not sing for toffee. So my plan is as follows:
Using Audition CS5 I will open a new multi-track session, I will then record the guitar part (without the singing), and then will record the vocals over the top of that.
Once I have finished recording the vocals I will import the vocal file into melodyne and auto-tune it (if it's good enough for Britney spears it's good enough for me), once I have tuned my voice I will then re-inport the vocal file back into Audition CS5 ready for mastering.
This is where I need help.
What can Audition do to help me make the vocals sound as good and as proffessional as possible using different effects and so on.
If you have ever heard of  a singer called "Jose Gonzalez" then that is the sort of vocal I am trying to achieve.
Thanks very much for your time

Steve's right - we have to be able to hear what you've done before we tell you what you need to do next.  A couple of things, though.  After you've melodyne'd the vocal (I don't think you have to do the export/import thing with the vocal, cuz Melodyne's a plugin, right?  Audition isn't listed as one of the DAWs you can use it with, but I wouldn't worry - Audition's NEVER listed with other DAWs, but it works just like the others most times.) you won't be mastering what you've got, you'll be MIXING what you've got.  What Audition can do with those two or three tracks you record will be along the lines of:
    * noise reduction on each track
    * panning
    * EQ'ing
    * compression, if needed
    * adding space (delay/reverb) if needed
There's more, but those would be the first things you'd be looking at in most cases.

  • Poor quality recording in Audition CS6

Hi – hope somebody can help me with a poor recording quality problem in Audition.
I noticed the problem when I was recording ‘live’ from music on YouTube, but to try and narrow down the issue, I can re-create the problem if I’m just recording 'live', playing an mp3 file previously ripped from a CD, with Windows Media Player on my computer . The quality of the original recording is fine, played with WMP ver 12, but the Audition-recorded version, recorded from the ‘live’ play through WMP, is what can only be described as ‘thin’, without any depth and with minor distortion. However, if I import the mp3 file into Audition and then edit it, no loss of quality – so it’s clearly the recording activity that’s the issue.
I’ve tried all manner of audio hardware configurations in the preferences dialogue, especially latency as that gets mentioned a lot in the trouble-shooting texts, but to no avail.
I’m using Audition CS6 ver 5.0.2, Build 7 with Windows 7 64bit. This is a recent installation within the full Production package and as far as I know, the problem has always been there.
Here’s the rub - the computer is dual boot, as I’ve maintained a previously purchased CS5.0 version of the Production package, with ‘Soundbooth’ as it was in CS5. This works fine!! This uses the same OS, the same Sound card – ASUS Xonar DS Audio- and the same version of WMP. The only difference is that the driver for the Sound Card on the CS5 version, is 7.12.8.1777 compared to 7.12.8.1794 with the CS6 installation. I’m loath to upgrade the CS5 to the latest version, lest it stops working. I have checked that all the same files are present in the program files for the Sound card in both versions - they have different dates, but they are the same names.
I feel it must be a configuration issue of some sort, rather than the driver, but I just cant work it out. It’s not helped by the Preferences dialogue for Audio Hardware not being a direct match from CS5 to CS6, with different options and drop-downs – eg, CS6 asks for the Device Class (MME or ASIO) – CS5 doesn’t. The only other difference I can think of between my CS5 and CS6 installations is that CS6 is on an SSD boot drive, but I can’t think that would have any relevance.
Any help greatly appreciated – it’s so frustrating not to be able to suss what the problem is!

Bob - many thanks for a quick response.
Apologies if my follow-up might appear naive, but whilst I can use Adobe products, I dont always know what's going on under the surface!
    Taking you points in turn:
"First, Audition doesn't affect what it's recording.  It just works with what it's being handed from your sound card....."
So does my sound card hand something different to Windows Media Player? - what I hear being played through my speakers whilst Audition is recording, is not the same as ends up being recorded.
"Second, Audition doesn't (and can't) work natively in MP3......"
I'm not asking Audition to do anything that Soundbooth doesn't do successfully - if I play an mp3 from a ripped CD Audio disk and record it in Soundbooth, it records exactly what I'm hearing - ie the playback of the Soundbooth-recorded file, sounds exactly the same as the original. Why can't Audition do the same? Although they have different names, my understanding is that Audion is just the CS6 version of CS5's Soundbooth, slightly improved (allegedly) - is this not correct? Re your comment about other bits of software doing only basic processing like altering levels and trimming in/outs, at the moment that's all I want to do.
"Third, comparing Youtube audio to CD audio is a bit "chalk and cheese......""
Yep, understand that, but I'm not trying to do a comparison - whilst I noticed the problem live recording YouTube audio, I wanted to check that the audio quality issue was not because of the input source - hence I took the ripped mp3 audio file to use as the master in all the tests I did in both Soundbooth and Audition and proved satisfactorily to myself, that he problem lay somewhere in Audition - or my Sound Card.
"Finally, you're lucky to be able to record Youtube videos at all........"
    Yep, understand the copyright issue.
"I'm going to guess that the difference might indeed be down to that difference in drivers between your versions"
Whilst this seems logical from the point of view of ruling out everything else, it would seem strange that a newer version of the driver would work less well than the previous version - when all they were fixing between the versions doesn't seem as though it could introduce a recording quality issue in Audition. You're right though - I could try downloading the audio as an mp3 file and importing that into Audition to do any trimming - as I said in my post, Audition doesn't lose quality if I import the file, only if I try and record it from the file being played 'live'. Somehow I dont think I should have to do it that way, when Soundbooth could handle it recodring live.
The key in your response, is that Audition is only recording what my Sound Card is passing to it - I understand that, but presumably the settings in Audition will also have a bearing on how that sound is recorded. My belief is that it must be a mix of the two, and whilst I've tried everything I can think of in Audition, I must turn to the Soundcard settings/drivers. Not sure if I can install the Soundbooth version of the driver in Audition, but I might try that - if not only to rule it out.
However, I'd welcome any further views from you or others..........
    Many thanks.

  • View offending records in audit viewer for set-based mappings

i have mappings which is configured to load data from Oracle9i external tables into Fact tables.
i am using set-based loading with reject limit set to 0. Whenever there's an offending record from the external table, the whole mapping will fail with message 'Fatal error or maximum error exceeded'. This is exactly how i want it.
now, when i check the mapping process in audit viewer, i expect to see which record caused this process to abort. instead, i only see the same message stated above (which is not very helpful in identify source of the problem, right ?)
i believe this is due to the mapping being set-based. unfortunately i can't use row-based as i do not want ANY record loaded into the fact table even if there is 1 offending record. In row-based mode, it seems to auto-commit after a certain number of records (bfor any errorneous records are encountered). i have attempted to set the 'commit block size' to something big value (eg. 50,000) but it still seems to commit after say every 2000 records ...
    any suggestions ?
    thanks

Since you need set based code in order to avoid commits, it is difficult to trap record level errors - the set based procedure will run to the end or encounter an error and all you will get is a generic SQL error code and message. The commit frequency should work - I am not aware of any problems in this area. Can you give more details about this?
It might also be possible to filter correct records by using a splitter and set it in such a way that correct records get loaded into the production table, while incorrect are 'parked' into a temporary table for review. Another possibility, if you need complex data cleansing prior to loading, would be to use an intermediate staging table and then use the row based mode on it, before transferring the correct records from this staging table to the appropriate production table. This last solution will slow down your process because it introduces an additional step, but might give you the loading flexibility you need.
