2 midi controllers on different tracks..

Hello,
I have two midi controllers, both usb going into logic pro 9 and a mac pro. Can you play both on different tracks at the same time and get different instruments for each piano and play them together at the same time and even record. How do you do it?
I know that this might be a difficult question to explain on a forum or maybe not. So if you can lead me to a web page, video, or link, or just even answer it here. That would be so helpful.
Thanks so much for you much needed help.
Lou.

I'm sorry to say that, but this putting the forum into a mess when you toggle your posts like: "I'v got it" - "I did not" and the post is marked as answered when it is not...
Well, try next:
1. Set your external controllers to different midi channels say ch.1 & ch.2.
2. Set the Logic Software Instruments midi channels to match the external controller channels ( i.e ch.1&2 ).
3. Go to Logic Settings -> Recording and enable "Autodemix by midi channel if multitrack recording" which will switch Logic into a "live play" mode.
4. Arm the tracks of the Software Instruments you want to audition or record.

  • Splitting midi commands among different tracks

Some time ago, someone posted a technique to split different midi parameters among different tracks in the arrange window. It was for an orchestral score, done this way to get tight control and automation on the parameters.
I've looked for that post for several days, but cannot find it. Does someone know who posted it?
    I'd appreciate any help.

There are several ways to deal with this. If you are using something like BFD, Superior, etc - make a multi instance of the virtual instrument. In the VI assign each drum to a different output bus, then each drum will come up on a seperate channel in your mixer..
If you were using a stereo instance - would be to mute all drums, but the kick, and record that to audio, then the snare, hats, etc. One at a time, that way you have complete control over it. You can go back later, and replace the snare, change pitch etc. without disturbing the rest of the mix.

  • Separate Midi Drums To Different Tracks?

    Hi,
I have just programed my midi drums on an instrument track.
Is there way to separate the snare, kick drum to separate midi tracks other than manually doing so?
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Darren.

Make copies of your drum Instrument track (shift+return) - copy/option drag the regions to the copied tracks - select highest and lowest not in the Inspector of your regions - so kickdrum lowest/highest note C1/C1 - snare D1/D1 - and so on.
Even faster way is to go to the region menue in the Arrange->Split/seperate->separate different pitches (translated form my german menue)
every note will be split up into a new region so you'll have a region with kickdrums/snares and so on.

  • No recording of MIDI Controllers in MIDI Track Automation

Surely we need to have MIDI CC recordable as track automation on a MIDI instrument track just the same as it can be recorded to faders in audio Instrument tracks via a transformer. I know there are work arounds like recording to standard object automation then moving to track automation but I want to see all my recorded modulations at once as track automation for all my Logic instruments and MIDI instruments without wasting any time.

This gets asked at least once a week.
From about ten posts underneath this one:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2095452&tstart=0
Also is there a way to record all of v-drum midi data into separate tracks?
Record into one track, then use the Split/Demix by Note Pitch function to put each MIDI note into it's own track.

  • Using Multiple MIDI controllers at the same time

It seems that there is no way to record from 2 different midi controllers at the same time without the data getting summed together. I'm trying to record a midi keyboard playing a piano sound and my roland v-drums at the same time. The result i get when i record enable both tracks is that both the keyboard and the drums each play both sounds. I'm using a MOTU midi express xt usb and have each of the devices on seperate midi ports and the drums are on channel 10. Is there anyway to keep this info seperated on it's own port? I've read through the environment chapter about 1000 times and there is no mention of this senario at all. Should I have saved $700 and stuck with MOTU DP4.6 which works just fine? Is there anyway to get some REAL help from Apple?

Have you tried: file/song settings/recording/auto demix per channel if multi-track recording?
    hope that helps.

  • 2 midi controllers problems

I have recently reinstalled Mac osx and updated logic 9, now have problems with midi controllers/channels.
    This is the method I use;
    1. Set external controllers to different midi channels; ch.1 & ch.2.
    2. Set the Logic Software Instruments midi channels to match external controller channels ( i.e ch.1&2 ).
    3. Logic Settings -> Recording and enable "Autodemix by midi channel if multitrack recording" which will switch Logic into a "live play" mode.
    4. Arm the tracks of the Software Instruments to audition or record.
I have booted with the old OS from external HD, and this method works fine.
Any ideas why it's not working on the new install?
I have tried the channel splitter method for 2 midi controllers and it still works.

  • Logic Pro 9 and GarageBand '11 won't recognize MIDI controllers

    Hi there,
I have two MIDI controllers that are not getting picked up by Logic or Garage Band and I'm unable to figure out why. I'm running Mac OS 10.9.4 (Mavericks) on a Mac Mini with a 250 GB SSD and 4 GB of RAM.
Setup 1 is a simple Acorn Masterkey 49 USB controller whose manufacturer claims needs no drivers, although it doesn't show up in my Audio/MIDI setup pane at all, no matter how many times I restart the computer and/or the controller in any combination. I can't use it with Logic or with Garage Band.
Setup 2 is a Digi002 Rack connected to the Mac Mini by Firewire and connected to an old-school Korg M1 as a MIDI controller. I can launch and hear the tracks I've made in the past with Logic, but now that Korg M1 is invisible even though the Core Audio Manager says my Digi002 Rack is connected and running. This setup has really never been able to speak with Garage Band, although I have been able to connect it successfully in the past.
I'm a newbie to this and don't know how to get under the hood to fine-tune MIDI set-ups within Logic or GarageBand. Is there something funky going on between Logic 9 and Mavericks, however? I'm beginning to wonder if that's the issue.
    With thanks,
    Dustin.

    Hi Dustin,
Nice to see someone pose a complete question with all the details...
First thing to do would be to delete Logic's preferences and the control surface preferences. Although I don't think it's going to help. I'll post the method at the end of this post.
One of the problem with older MIDI devices is that Apple changed something in their MIDI spec and some older MIDI devices either don't work (not recognized) or if they are recognized don't work reliably. Another problem, depending on ho old your Mac Mini is, the newer machines have USB 3.0 ports and that poses another hurdle.
Here's two things to try for the Acorn.
Turn the computer off, unplug the Acorn's USB cable. Restart the MacMini and let it settle for a couple of minutes, open Audio-MIDI Setup... plug the Acorn in, see if there's and life.
Try a powered USB 2.0 USB Hub, a hub that has it's own power supply. If you don't have one maybe you can borrow one as it's only a -possible- solution.
The Problem with the M! and Digi002 may be related. Are you using the very latest drivers available for the 002? Again, this may be a MIDI compatibility problem, although I thought this was USB only, I suspect it's more of a Digi002 driver issue with Mavericks than anything else.
MIDI Out on the M1 to MIDI IN on the 002
Delete the Logic 9 preferences file and control surfaces file.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Remove the  com.apple.logic.pro.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual for details on how to do this.
If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro. then delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
Be sure to include the Tilde~ in the path name above, be sure and delete both files.

I’m having an intermittent problem with my midi controllers triggering Mainstage 3.
I’m using a PreSonus Firebox audio interface.
It’s been working fine for months, but now when I first turn on the computer in the morning , I’m not able to trigger MainStage from the keyboard.  I tried different midi controllers, different keyboards, different midi cords, and check midi preferences.  The audio interface is working fine and is recogonized, but the midi doesn’twork.  I re-started the computer several times and then finally it miraculously starts working again.
I’ve been having to this every day now.  Any help or ideas is very much appreciated.

I Had the same problem with a FireStudio. Try unplugging the FireWire plug and the power plug. Wait for a few seconds, then plug both back in. The light on my FireStudio was flashing blue/red which means "not connecting." I did what I just described, and everything works again. Hope it works for you.

  • Multiple MIDI Controllers in MainStage Problem

Hey there, I just assigned two different MIDI controllers to two different instruments as was recommended in this discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2280561?start=0&tstart=0), but after I tweak the sounds a little bit one of the controllers always just goes back to playing the instrument from the other controller.
For instance, I assigned Keyboard A (Arturia 49 Laboratory) a piano sound and Keyboard B (Alesis Q49) an organ sound.  It worked beautifully at first and but now Keyboard B is playing a piano sound as well.  The instrument strip shows the organ sound still though.  And if I try switching Keyboard B to another sound it just keeps playing piano (although it displays whatever sound it "should" be playing).
    Any ideas on this?

You have 2 keyboards in the layout? And they both work with the right physical keyboard? If that is the case, the input for the channel strips are probably not set to the right workspace object.

  • Help with setting up mutliple midi controllers

I am using Express 7.2. I have a Keystation Pro 88 and a Radium 61. I am using the Radium as Port 2 on Keystation Pro 88 input. I am starting to go nuts trying to figure out how to map both controllers to play 2 different soft synths. How do I set this up in the Environment? Another post suggests "Channelize" which I cannot find or figure out at all. Any help would be appreciated.

I gave up on the Logic Express 7.2 midi Environment headache. I am now using a program called Bidule which was a sinch to use in setting up 2 hardware midi controllers to 2 AU/VST software synths. I recommend it.

  • How to use 2 midi controllers at the same time?

    Hi all,
I have an Oxy 8 usb keyboard and an old Roland drum machine hooked up through the mid in on my Firebox. Right now they control the same track (in Logic 7 Express) but i would like to use them to input midi to different track simultaneously. Would someone be kind enough to point me to the right page in the manual or, if it's not to much trouble, clue me in on how to do this?
    Thanks for your time,

    Sorry for the double post....
I really don't remember which model is the Roland 505: for sure I know the Roland and Boss drums series.
In my life I've had only one (maybe 2 but I remember only one) drum machine and it was a Sequential Drumtrak: it's dynamic was HUGE!
Now I enjoy the iDrum, the Reason' ReDrum (it's very similar in concept to the Sequential).
I find the interface of my new Ultrabeat (yes I'm on Studio, now) very ugly and the Ableton Live Impulse little useful.....
I have again a very old Yamaha SY77 synthesizer and some of its sounds are good for today music but I prefer VI: they are lighter, more flexible and stay in tune (if you want!).
So enjoy your TR until it's good for you!
    cheers

  • Split midi notenumbers to several tracks

First of all I'am new to Logic...
I record the MIDI from our drummers Roland TD-12 to a MIDI track in Logic.
Problem with this is that the complete kit is on 1 track... what I would like is to split the incoming MIDI info to diffetent tracks.
So that the hi-hat midi is on 1 track and the snare midi is on another, etc.
    Can this be done?
If so than I'm able to process the tracks individualy with compression, eq and so on...
    greetings,
    Arjan

I think there is a preference to automatically demix by channel, which is in the "song settings". But I don't think you can do it by note. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not in front of Logic now.
In the former case, and if you don't need more than 16 tracks of this, then you can do it if you can assign different notes to different channels from the drumkit itself, or you can build an environment object to do it on Logic's input, but that's more complicated.
Logic is really not designed well to do multitrack midi recording. The ways you do it are kind of a workaround.

  • In I-Tunes, how can I consolidate multiple copies of the same album with different tracks into one file in my library screen?

In Windows 7 , I tunes library/ albums, I have many albums ( all the same) with different tracks in each.
Is it possible to consolidate the multiple cover photos into one ?

Generally setting a common Album Artist will fix things, if not see Grouping tracks into albums.

  • How to use multiple midi controllers with Mac book pro (2 usb)?

I have a newer macbook pro that has 2 USB ports, and a lightning port and a firewireport.
On stage I will be using the firewire port connected to a Presonus Firestudio mobile to use as the interface to the house mixer.
I will use 1 USB for my M-audio Axiom 61
I will use the other for my Yamaha WX-5 Wind synth
I'd like to be able to get the apogee midi foot controller to control the playback audio. For example I'll be using it to stay in a solo section, then step on it to move it forward ot the next section when I am done soloing
I'd also like to use some sort of midi switch to turn on vocal effects of the mic.
Anyway since I only have 2 USB ports, how should I connect the 3rd, or 4th USB midi controller?
Will a USB hub work to do this? If so, will I always have to remember to use the same controler in the same exact hub input to make sure everything maps the same?
I guess I'll also have to learn how to setup multiple controllers in Mainstage as well.
    Thanks
    Dan

    Hi there,
is a question which many of us have spent ...
I think the obvious answer is that yes you can use a hub and connect everything. however ....
sincerely advise you to buy a good hub that is well feasible, the last thing you want on stage / rehearsal is one of midi controllers stop responding, or stay with hanged notes... etc., do not buy just because it is cheap it has to be stable and viable, some bring cable for connecting wall power just to not drain power from the USB port.
Other things to try is to distribute as much equipment for USB / Midi.
For example one of midi controllers connect via USB but not by Midi outside the Presonus Firestudio. Connecting Presonus Firestudio to a single USB port as it is a main equipment.
but it really is an issue that greatly limits the use of USB devices.
Try it and tell me how it went. Good luck

  • How can I get 2 different track from iTunes playing on 2 different stereos?

We are remodeling a part of our home and decided that this would be the time to install a whole house audio system. We would like to use our iTunes library as a source and be able to play different tracks in different parts of the house (also called zones)
To put it in a slightly different fashion. I could have a dedicated Mac Mini with my iTunes library and it would feed tracks with meta data to 3 stereos in various parts of the house. Each stereo independently select tracks or playlists.
iTunes purchased tracks need to work as well.
    Thank you all....

What you need is to use one Mac (or PC) as a server (and storing all the music) and then one of the following in each room connected to that rooms HiFi system.
Sonos ZonePlayer see http://www.sonos.com this is the most expensive option but is regarded as the premier multi-room solution.
Roku SoundBridge see http://www.rokulabs.com (I have three M2000 SoundBridges myself)
    Slim Devices Squeezebox see http://www.slimdevices.com
Apple TV see http://www.apple.com/appletv (unlike all the above this will require the use of a TV)
With these, different rooms can play different tracks at the same time with them all stored on the single computer.
