2 monitors for most current Mac Mini

I have a NEC PA241W wide gamut monitor connected to the thunderbolt port using a mini-display port to display port (monitor side) cable which works fine. I want to connect a 2nd monitor so I can work more efficiently.
Have a older LCD VGA only monitor that wasn't being used so I bought this adapter

Not wanting to waste more money on adpaters that may not work, I want to get a new monitor that would definitely be compatible with the remaining HDMI output on the Mini.
What types of input on the monitor should I be looking for? Would another NEC PA series monitor work? It has a display port as well as DVI-D inputs.

You need to get a monitor that supports either HDMI or preferibly DVI-D and use the Apple supplied HDMI to DVI Adapter in the HDMI port.
Optionally you could move your current NEC PA241W to the HDMI to DVI Adapter with a DVI-D cable and then get a MiniDisplay to VGA Adapter for your VGA display.

I cannot install Lion to a backup drive for my new Mac Mini

I just bought the new Mac Mini with an i7 processor last week. I wanted to format a backup drive for it. When I tried to use the Lion Recovery partition on the new Mac Mini, I keep getting an error message that says it's incompatoble with the current model.
I also tried to use the Lion thumbdrive I purchased from Apple to see if that can be used, but it also give me the incompatible message.
Is there a special version of Lion that's only for the new Mac Mini's?

On Second thoughts...
I don't really know how well Logic Express 7 performs on the Mac Mini because I have not yet had the chance to experience the two together. Don't let that put you off the idea though! From my understanding of the system requirements printed on the Logic Express homepage, it states that a G4 or faster system is required, however Apple personally recommend a Dual G4 or G5 is recommended alongside a minimum of 512MB of Ram. This Does mean that Logic Express will run on the Mac Mini but you will most probably find it lags when moving samples in real time and rendering them onto your hard drive. If you really want to enjoy making "serious" music on the Mac then you really need to be looking at the iMac G5 or the iMac Core Duo (Intel) purely for your tempers sake. As for an Intel Mac Mini, there is no indication as to when we will be seeing one on the market and therefore you may find yourself on the fence between keeping your fixed budget and holding on a little or jumping in and getting on the right road to a digital musical life - mac style.

Why did apple remove the superdrive from the current mac mini model?

Also why does the standalone superdrive (USD $79) ONLY work with server version of the current Mac Mini? Does not make sense. Was just thinking of buying a mac mini when they changed the line about 2 months ago. I still use DVD's and CD's as I am sure a lot of people out there still do.
It has made me rethink the purchase of the current mac mini - since the standalone superdrive only works with the server version. I wanted to purchase the 2.3Ghz - 500 GB version - but if that does not work with the superdrive - then no good for me.
The Intel core 2 core duo was the one I wanted and it was perfect for me - but the day I went to purchase was the day the new version was announced - apple is not even offering refurbished one of this model (I have looked at that area of www.apple.com) and everywhere I look on ebay for this version - people are selling them for so much more. I wanted to buy this new from apple.
Getting rid of the drive was not the best idea just yet - CD's and DVD's are still so ubiquitious.
Anyone have any other suggestions on how to get my hands on a brand new Intel core 2 duo from apple?
I already have an Imac and a Macbook Pro already wanted to add to my apple collection.

The new Mac mini has two dispay ports, the mini-DVI and a mini-DisplayPort. You can attach a display to each port with the proper adapters. It also comes with a mini-DVI to DVI adapter.

Current Mac Mini Superdrive noise/vibrataion...Resolutions?

I've got a Mac Mini that I purchased around September or October of last year, so it's the current generation that's in the Apple Store right now. When the drive spins up anywhere near full speed, whether reading or burning, the excessive noise and vibration makes it almost intolerable to stay in the room with it. It's definitely not "normal" by any stretch of the word. No disc burning has failed because of this, but it does seem to take excessive amounts of time to burn full discs. Also, this weekend I installed Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 on my 2008 Black Macbook and it took around an hour to complete the install. I did the same install from the same DVD on my current Mac Mini and after well over 2 hours of installing and only getting to about 60% progress, I gave up and went to bed while it finished. So same speed drive, close to the same processor, 4 times the RAM...and the Mac Mini takes at least 3 times as long to accomplish the same install. That's not acceptable at all. Granted, I don't use the drive all that often, but when I do I want it to work, and to work efficiently and properly.
I've searched the discussions and see threads from over a year ago on this topic, but nothing recent. Wondering what the latest verdict is on these issues and if Apple has been replacing these as of late and/or has acknowledged the problem. I'm still within the standard 1 year warranty, but also have Applecare, so warranty is not really an issue. I've only found a couple people for whom Apple has fixed this (and then they just replaced the whole machine), and those have all said that the noise was not quite as bad, but that it was still not normal in the replacement machines, and even then that was after 2-3 replacements. I don't want to go through the hassle of replacing my machine multiple times and having to keep restoring from Time Machine backups only to have a machine that isn't quite as noisy. The noise I could honestly deal with if I had to (but I shouldn't), it's the excessively long read/write times that I can't accept. So any new news on this before I go to the trouble to take it to the Apple Store?

However, I'm looking for people who have recently had the problem, have taken theirs in for repair (warranty or not) and if the issue was fully resolved or if it was still a problem, even if it wasn't quite as bad as before. If I'm still going to have the issue after a drive repair/replacement I don't want to waste my time taking it in and being without a machine for a few days. Connecting two monitors, keyboards etc to mac mini

I would like to keep the mac mini connected to my tv in the living room, and use a bluetooth keyboard/mouse.
At the same time, my wife would like the ability to use the macmini in the basement office (one level lower than the living room).
Therefore ideally, I would like to have a permanent monitor etc downstairs connected to the macmini - my wife (understandably) won't be willing to disconnect and reconnect the mac mini every time she needs to work downstairs!
Is there some bluetooth etc solution to this desire to run two monitors etc off of one mac mini. Obviously I am not suggesting we both try to use the computer at the same time.

There is no inexpensive method for connecting a remote monitor wirelessly to a Mac mini. The range of Bluetooth probably won't allow reliable use of the keyboard and mouse downstairs. You would in all cases be better off just buying a second Mac mini for your wife's use, since you are already having to buy a second keyboard, mouse, and monitor anyway.

Iphone as webcam for FaceTime on mac-mini

i have an iphone and a mac mini. I use facetime on the iphone and have also used my iphone as a webcam for my mini for skype and other applications but failed with facetime. I know that i could use facetime directly from the iphone but when i am at home i prefer to use the larger monitor conected to my mac-mini instead of holding the iphone in my hands. i dont want to buy another webcam. I expect that apple should at least make their own devices compatible in all these possible ways.
Does anyone know an app or way i can use my iphone camera as a cam for facetime!!

Before you spend more money (and time) on 3rd-party apps - which could cause you trouble with the next OS X update as much as they interfere with the system - you may want to consider putting your $$$ into an external, Mac-compatible webcam from a well-supported brand (drivers!) and have peace.
BTW, if you don't want to run FaceTime off your iPhone because you don't want to hold it, how would you use it's camera only without holding it? If you have a solution for it, it would also apply for FaceTime via iPhone, obviously...

The Mac uses a highly-parameterized universal Driver for every display. The parameters are set at certain times when a query is sent to your display. The display MUST answer with its name and capabilities, or the screen stays dark. A TV set that is off or "not paying attention" because it is set to a different port when the query occurs will rarely answer, and so will often remain dark.
You can use tools in the System Report to see whether your display has been detected at all. If it has, the report will look something like this, but its name will appear:
The times when the query is sent are:
• at Startup
• at wake from sleep
• when the Mac-end of the cable is inserted
• when using the Option ( Detect Displays ) button in displays preferences

You need an adaptor, HDMI to DVI is included in the package, take HDMI to VGA or thunderbolt which, in case of monitor, is the same as minidisplay port to VGA. Apple has always upgraded the best output port, unfotunately monitor manufacturers have not done the same.
