2 monitors on 13" Macbook Pro (brand new)

I'm buying a Macbook Pro next week (April 15, 2014), and I want to use it as a desktop and attach 2 HDMI monitors and Apple USB keyboard (with keypad).
Knowledge base article kb/ht5918 ("Mac Pro (Late 2013): Using multiple displays") is not clear about how to do this. Some options that might work
Option 1:
   MiniDisplayPort=>HDMI connector on MiniDisplay Port
USB 3.0=>HDMI connector on USB 3.0 port
Option 2:
MiniDisplayPort to HDMI connector on MiniDisplay Port
MiniDisplayPort to HDMI connector on Thunderbolt Port
Chat sale support said Option 2 would work, but I have not seen it on the web.
Question 1: Will these options work and which is better?
Question 2: Is there a better option not mentioned above? (cost is not critical)
Question 3: Are high speed HDMI cables required?

Thanks, Clinton.
The display resolution of the displays I'm considering (LG 24EA53V-P or LG MP5656HQ-P)  are both 1920 X 1080.
Question 1: Would I be better off with DVI-D connections or HDMI?
Question 2: Do you have suggestions for 24" monitors for email, word processing, programming, monitors that that are not discontinued?

Are the referbished macbook pro brand new?

They are used but thoroughly checked by Apple to make sure they are in 100% working order before sale.
Lots of them are actually un-used but certain rules say Apple have to sell them as refurbished.
Many of them are returns, meaning they have been used for less than 14 days (to be eligible to return a purchased Apple product, you have to have purchased it less than 14 days ago).

Hold down the Shift key on Restart, right after the startup tone.
That will boot into Safe Mode, which will run some disk checks and clear out some caches. If it boots, then restart normally and see what happens.

I've never transferred from a PC, so I don't know what Migration Assistant would have done. I can't imagine it would have transferred anything over that would do any damage to the system.

Just bought a new 15 inch MacBook Pro with retinal display. My images look awful in Photoshop CC and Bridge. Apparently there are no updates that I don't already have. Any suggestions?

“Lousy” and “awful” aren’t very technical terms.  Perhaps a screenshot and some actual details of what you don’t like.

  • Kernel Panic on MacBook Pro, brand new.

    HI!
I have done a lot of research on the kernel panic. It happens on Safari, and I have done all I think I can do based on what I have read on these forums. (PRAM, reinstall OS, repair permissions, ditch safari prefs, etc)
Another odd thing is that it only happens when my 24 inch cinema display is plugged in.
Here is the part that seems to be the most important.
This is the part that is consistent in every crash...
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):
    com.apple.driver.AppleIntelHDGraphics(6.2.4)@0x82738000->0x827e6fff

Is there a way to replace this?
    com.apple.driver.AppleIntelHDGraphics(6.2.4)
--- I HAVE replaced the OS and it happened again.
Safari issue? Plug in issue? Flash issue? Like I said, it's only when I am browsing, and it happens .
Could it be a RAM or hardware issue? Something with the display?
    Anyone?
    THANKS!!!

I have the exact same problem. New full-loaded 17" MBP, fully updated OSX, and Safari causes a kernel panic about once PER DAY! It's driving me crazy. I've reinstalled Safari, zapped PRAM, updated flash, all to no avail. Here's the kernel panic log:

  • What adaptor do I need to attach my cinema LED monitor to my MacBook Pro ?

what adaptor do I need to attach my new LED Cinema monitor to my MacBook Pro? of course the salesman assurred me it would owrks - well it does with my last year's mac book pro - but I want to use it with my old MacBook Pro - what is the adaptor name or even the model number would be good..

thank you for your comments - after visit to apple, est buy and then a call to MacDoc store
I have purchased a Kanex C247DL cable adaptor - thru amazon for about $90.00 -
this allows for me to connect to a Non Unibody MacBook pro 15" laptop to a Apple 27' LED Cinema monitor
I needed a Female minidisplay port to a Male DVI adapter.
This Kanex made adapter allowed for the monitor ( which is one long cable with 3 plugs - 1 for power, 1 USB male and the 1 male mini display port- only 3 usb female ports in the back of the monitor itself)
to plug its USB and the minidisplay port from the monitor and then plug directly into my macbook pro thru the older styled monitor ( female) plug on the right of the computer + plugging into a USB port (which I have on both sides of my unit) - problem solved - i guess i will find out when the adaptor arrives -
The Apple store said there is no such thing..Best Buys Mac rep said we dont carry them and maybe fryes - fryes did have it online..and this local culver city, La company MacDocs didnt carry it any more but sent me to the manufacturer website...
I know the Thunderbolt monitor would not work - but the MacMail employees assurred me this monitor would...wrong..Well I guess I can too be a computer sales person....good thing I didnt give up ...

  • Can I connect a Power Mac G5 monitor to a Macbook pro?

I still have my Power Mac G5 monitor that still works. I wanted to know if I can connect the monitor to my Macbook pro. I'm not sure what adapters, if any, I should use. Thanks in advance.
    Scilla

What brand and model of monitor and what type of connectors does it have?
PowerMac G5s did not ship with a monitor but you could use several Apple monitors of the time plus common third-party monitors like Sony, ViewSonic, etc. However, the type of video connection varies, even on Apple monitors. So we would need to know what connectors (or at least make/model) to research the required adpators.
If you are asking about a G5 iMac----looks like this:
Then, no, it cannot be used as an external monitor in the traditional sense. You may be able to use third-party, screen-sharing software if both computers are networked. See here:
    http://www.screenrecycler.com/ScreenRecycler.html
It appears the software still supports older Macs.

  • External monitor options For Macbook Pro(2011)

Just curious as to what my monitor options are as a external monitor for the Macbook Pro.  I'm pretty much set on 27'' thunderbolt display but its a hefty price to swallow...
Best buy has some good deals on there 27'' monitor but can i get the same resolution and clarity from other brands that will be eqivalent to Apple?
I'd like to stay in the 27'' to 30'' size...
    thanks

Any other options like Samsung, LG etc... that offer the same specs as the thunderbolt display?
    Thanks

  • Will Apple give me anything to trade-in a water-damaged (still functional but hurting) MacBook Pro [Purchased new Dec. 2010]?

Will Apple give me anything to trade-in a water-damaged (still functional but hurting) MacBook Pro [Purchased new Dec. 2010]?
    Any feedback/advice is greatly appreciated!
    Thank you

The techs at Apple do have some lattitude in what they can offer. And it won't hurt to ask, and if they did help you out, it would be your one and only "save" for the rest of your life probably. Since you bought yours back in 2010, I doubt they would do anything. If it were a brand new unit, they may have some sympathy. But in your case, I'd say probably not.

  • How Can I Connect 2 External Display Monitors to a MacBook Pro? Help

I want to know if I can (and How to) connect 2 external display monitors to a MacBook Pro... late 2006 & the new Unibody MBP.
    I'll appreciate

Requires additional hardware - the Matrox DualHead2Go. For the late 2006, you'd need the DualHead2Go Digital Edition, and for the unibody you'd need the DualHead2Go DP Edition, with appropriate cabling (and a DVI-to-VGA adapter for the late 2006 MBP).

  • I connected an external monitor to my MacBook Pro, but it doesn't open any programs. It Just sits there with a blank screen.  How do I get it to open programs and act like a monitor?

I connected an external monitor to my MacBook Pro, but it doesn't open any programs. It Just sits there with a blank screen.  How do I get it to open programs and act like a monitor?

    Dear Jean:
It sounds like you are trying to get your external monitor to act as the primary viewing screen. For example it would have your Doc, Icons, Etc. In order to make the external monitor the primary screen you have to:
    Open System Preferences.
    Choose the Displays Icon
There will be several tabs to choose from pick Arrangement
Drag the toolbar to desired display
Let me know if this helps at all!

    Hi
Does anyone know How to run twin monitors on a MacBook Pro operating on a Windows Server 2008 R2 ?

I know this doesn't help you much, but, I think you have to see if your Mac pro does audio out via HDMI. I don't even know if mine does via DVI. I think it may have to do with the adapter. Try going into Audio MIDI and setting the digital out to multichannel
and using the toslink cable for now. Lemme see...apparently DVI does not carry audio at all. Hm. apparently monoprice could be helpful?  If I understand what you're saying correctly: you want to take DVI and multichannel audio via the Toslink and have it all go out over HDMI, right? Whooo..... amazon...looks like it's about $100http://www.amazon.com/Audio-SPDIF-Toslink-Converter-Adapter/dp/B0015YYOQQ
just a shot in the dark
    I'm probably wrong....or not

  • How do I set-up my TV as a dual monitor for my MacBook Pro?

    Hi
I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro running (OS X 10.8.2) Mountain Lion, and recently I rearranged my home workspace so that I can view my TV from my desk while I work.
I would like to set-up my TV as a dual monitor for my MacBook Pro, so I can stream videos on my TV screen and have the whole screen to do work on my MacBook Pro at the same time.
Is this possible? I've seen people use TVs as a mirror display (where it works as their main and only monitor), but never as a fully operational dual display.
As an example, I would like to have my MacBook screen showing a desktop with the whole screen devoted to Photoshop, while I have another desktop running on my TV, which shows an internet browser or other application.
If this is possible, what cords/hardware would I need, and what are the settings that will enable me to do this?
    - My TV is a modern flatscreen LCD, and it has two HDMI ports in the back.
    - It's about 9-10 feet from my desk.
If anyone could help, that'd be awesome!
    Thanks.

    Yes, you can do that.
You'll need a mini displayport to HDMI adaptor:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/moshi-mini-dp-to-hdmi-adapter-with-a udio-support
and an HDMI cable long enough to reach your TV
(look on Amazon or Monoprice for the best price on any of those parts)
In your display options, you will just choose extended desktop vs mirrored display.
