2 Mono tracks instead of 1 stereo?

Is there a way to break out a stereo track into 2 mono tracks? Namely I want to import a split-track and then be able to mix it how I want.
Thanks
--Daniel L

That is the same thing Karl. I know how to split files in Audacity and Wavepad. Seems like you should be able to separate the stereo tracks in Garageband and skip the export.
Ohh and for both of you, I NEVER export to iTunes. It really puts a dent in my work flow and junks up itunes. Id have thousands of things more in my iTunes account if I exported everything to it... I mix for others not myself
Soo yeah seems like GB is lacking in that department, but I still prefer it over Adobe Audition.

  • HDV audio is 2 mono tracks instead of stereo

When capturing my HDV video from my HDR-HC1 cam the audio is being captured as two mono tracks instead of a 2-channel stereo track. Does anyone know how to fix this and get the stereo?

    Just out of curiosity... Why?<<</div>
Why do I want two mono channels? Why do you want a stereo pair?
In my case, I usually have different mics connected to the two inputs on my camera. One may be a wireless and the other the on-camera mic, or another wireless. Hearing these in stereo wouldn't be natural at all, so why would I go to the trouble of capturing stereo only to have to pan them to center inside FCP? Even if I'm just using the on-camera mic (Sennheiser ME-64 or ME-66), it's a mono source so there's still no reason to convert it to stereo.
As another example, if I'm shooting a talking head, I'll have the person miced going to one channel. I usually won't even capture the other channel as its useless to me for editing purposes.
On the occasion I do want stereo, it's usually only when I'm taking a feed from my audio mixer where I may be mixing 6 or 8 or 10 mics. In those cases, I'll do the panning on the mixer and most likely WILL capture as stereo in FCP.

  • Changing 2 Mono Tracks back to 1 Stereo Track on timeline, or source monitor?

I was working in Premiere Pro CS 5.5 and I switched Audio on a clip to 2 Mono Tracks instead of its original 1 stereo track. I brought it in the Source Monitor and then on the timeline.
I then realized later on that I wanted to switch the audio back to 1 Stereo Track instead of the 2 Mono tracks.
I could not figure out a way to do this.
Is it possile to do this? If so. how?
    Thanks in advance?

Joe has given you a good answer, but exactly why do you want to switch the two mono Tracks back to Stereo?
If one is not doing certain things, then they will be Mixed-down to stereo on Export. However, certain editin operations WILL be easier with both back in stereo, if you are doing those.
    Good luck,

  • How do you combine 2 mono tracks into a single stereo track?

    Question here:
How do I combine 2 mono tracks into a single stereo track in Logic?
I recorded using my left and right out of my keyboard to a hard-disk recorder (Korg d888). The files are made as two separate wav files. Is there way to combine these in Logic so I can treat it as one stereo track?
I have several files to do and am hoping Logic has something like a "combine tracks to stereo track" tool or something.

Solo both tracks and bounce them with no effects and faders at 0 dB.

  • How to put two mono tracks into the usual stereo view in Edit view of Audition 3 ?

    Hi guys,
Previously I have had no issues simply using Adobe Audition 3 for simple stereo recording and editing of a stereo feed taken from a mixer... well nearly no issues....  :-)
Today, I'm having a bad day or else it's because I'm getting used to being retired.. :-)  ......
Query :    How do I put two mono tracks into the usual stereo view in Edit view so they both display correctly there?
Put simply I have two mono wav files. Let's call them Left_wav and Right_wav.
I cannot seem to get them imported into a new clean Edit view (Normal stereo track layout) so that Left_wav is on the top half and Right_wav is on the bottom half.
Whenever I try, I just get either Left_wav or Right_wav taking up the whole of the edit view. i.e. it just shows one track.
Can anyone familiar with Audition 3 kindly help? I'd appreciate a simple step by step... I just can't see where I've been going wrong, and it's driving me bananas :-).
    Thanks

There are various ways to do this in Audition 3. here's one.
Open both mono files separately in Edit view. Then convert Left_wav to Stereo by going to Edit/Convert Sample Type and under Channels select Stereo with Left Mix at 100% and Right Mix at 0%. This will give you a new stereo file with Left_wav on the top channel. Next go to the Right_wav and copy to the clipboard using Edit/Copy. Return to your new stereo file and enable Edit Right channel only in Edit/Edit Channel/Edit Right Channel. Then make sure that the cursor is at start of the stereo file and Paste Right_wav into the bottom channel of the new stereo file. Finally Save As.

  • Two mono tracks to create a stereo tracks

I have a series of piano music a cousin made, but it is all mono. Is there anyway to double the mono track to make a stereo track for CDs?

Yes, you can fake a stereo recording. Duplicate the track, option-drag the region into it, then offset it slightly from the original, and finally pan one track left some, and the other right some.

  • Audio Imports a Single Mono Track instead of Stereo

I am transferring mini-DV footage into a project that I was previously working on with a different camera. The audio used to import in Stereo Pairs, now it is just a single Mono track.
I don't think I changed any settings. I looked in the Clip Settings on the Capture window but I don't see an audio toggle. I am using FCP 5.0.
What should I do differently when importing and how can I get the previous single Mono imports into Stereo Pairs?
    Thanks,
    Hagen

If you have only one single mono audio track then duplicate it (select audio track then hold down SHIFT and OPTION/ALT key simultaneously and drag the mono audio clip down to the audio track below, it will give you a duplicate) after doing that select and double click the duplicated mono track and in the viewer Pan that hard right (1). Finally select both audio tracks and hit Option+L. You now have stereo pair.

  • Is this a Logic Pro 9 bug: when I do a "Save as..." my mono tracks are converted to stereo.

I have six mics on my drum kit, each running into a single channel input on my Mackie.
I noticed that, after I got the sound dialed in for each of the six tracks, and finishing up one drum project, and after performing a "Save as..." to save the project settings for my next drum project, then opening the newly saved project to start recording, I was unable to "record enable" all six tracks, because they had been changed from mono to stereo tracks, and instead of using "Input 1" for track 1, "Input 2" for track 2, etc... track 1 and track 2 had both switched to "Input 1-2", tracks 3 and 4 had switched to "Input 3-4" etc... It took me forever to figure out why I couldn't find the mono inputs from my Mackie in my available options for each track.
So now I have to go through and specify "mono" for each track and then re-select "Input 1", "Input 2", "Input 3", etc... for each corresponding track. Please let me know if this is something I can fix in the preferences. Thanks!

I can't reproduce the problem with "Save as..." again, so the tracks switched from mono to stereo somewhere between the time I recorded them and by the time I was done tweaking their EQ and compression settings. I don't know how to delete or edit my discussion question above, sorry!

  • Convert dual mono tracks to stereo in Audition CC

How do I convert dual mono tracks to stereo in Audition CC please?

Sorry, but your intentions here aren't clear.
Do you have two mono signals on one stereo track, or are you talking about two separate mono tracks that should be stereo, and you want them as a single stereo track?
With the latter, open one file and copy it to the clipboard. Open the other file, and use Edit>Convert Sample Type to convert it to 'stereo' (really dual mono). Select just the side you want to replace, highlight it and hit Delete - this should leave your original file on one channel, and nothing on the other. Place the cursor at the start of the empty section and paste the clipboard contents here. Save the result. You now have a stereo file.
If you have a dual mono file and you want some stereo ambience on it, then have a look at SHEPPi. This does a remarkably good job of that on mono files!
There are several other ways of doing file combining - you could do it quite easily in Multitrack mode, and there are also some utilities around that will do it directly for you - although you could easily be forgiven for being completely unaware of them, because generally they are used for reorganising multi-channel Broadcast Wav files, and don't show up using a simple search term.

  • When a project is sent from FCP, do all mono tracks become stereo?

It appears that when exporting a sequence from FCP, all mono tracks become stereo. Is this correct?
I have a mono voiceover on A1, and a mono set of SFX on A2, and then some other stereo background music tracks. When sent to STP, the two mono tracks show as being stereo files, when you look at the file information, and indeed, they have two waveforms displayed in the timeline.
Is this just the way it works?

    Interesting link, thanks for that.
However, I have to say that was not my experience of how it ended up. I had two mono tracks, without panning, and when I sent it to STP, it ended up as 2 stereo tracks.
I would have to experiment a bunch to try and figure out why that happened, and at this point, I think I've decided to NOT use STP and just stay in FCP, for a number of reasons. Mainly the fact that once you've done a whole bunch of effect assignment and mixing, enveloping etc. to a multitrack project in STP, there's no easy way to move a few clips around (in FCP) or tighten up some video edits without having to manually calculate frame offsets in STP, and laboriously move things around and hope they still match up. Could be I'm missing something, I only used STP for a full day...
Maybe the update will make it better somehow.

  • Convert two mono tracks into one stereo?

I've imported a clip from my DV camera into Final Cut. For whatever reason, the clip audio is two mono tracks rather than one stereo track. Is there a way for me to convert this to a stereo track after the import?
    Thanks very much,
    Greg
    G5 Dual 2.5 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Select both clips in the Timeline, then go to Modify->Stereo Pair (Option L). But if both clips contain the same audio information, it won't really be stereo ... just two tracks panned left & right.
If you want the audio to come in as stereo when you capture next time, make sure that you have the Capture settings for the audio set to "stereo."

  • Joining two mono tracks

How do I join two mono tracks to create a stereo track? Somehow when I exported my project from FCP, the stereo music clip ended up as two mono clips... Instead of showing up on track A7&A8, they show up individually on track A7 and track A8, which makes changing levels and keyframing a pain!
In the same vain, how do I split a stereo clip into two mono clips?
    thanks in advance!

Yeah, too far in on my STP to go back to FCP and re-export. Did find, however ctrl-clicking on the clip, and selecting channels that way to be of help.
    Thanks for the reply!

  • Noise reduction / adjust amplitude not available for mono tracks.

    Hi,
If there is a better group or forum for the following questions, please let me know.
I am presently performing the sound editing and mix for a feature using version 3.0.1 of Soundtrack Pro.  Though I am mixing using the surround feature, I have chosen to only use the center channel for dialog, and the front right and left speakers for everything else.
Furthermore, the picture editor (who is in a different state) sent me mono dialog tracks (he first sent me location and ADR on the same stereo track, which I could not separate for elimination or proper levels) and stereo tracks for the effects and score.  The two problems I am running into are:
    1.  I am unable to access the noise reduction tools for any of the mono tracks.  The individual stereo tracks allow me to do this.  What appears to be going on?  Is there a workaround?
    2.  Similarly, I am unable to access "adjust amplitude" under the same circumstances.  Again, the stereo tracks are fine.
Any assistance would be much appreciated!
    Kind Regards,
    Andre

No, although ACR v4.1 does apply some baseline noise reduction to many raw files, I do not think that it applies any default NR to TIF files. Lightroom v1.1 does not apply any noise-reduction to TIF or JPG files by default, at least as far as I've noticed, so I believe this will likely carry over to ACR v4.1 as well. Of course you *can* turn the NR sliders up from zero and then it will! In any case, you'd be advised to test that theory yourself just to make sure, before designing a workflow around that assumption...

  • Stereo to mono track? Elements 9

Non-Linear softwares like Avid import all sound in mono track form. Adobe doens't, for some reason. Instead it's all in stereo form. I need someone to explain how to change the stereo track into two separate mono tracks. I know this action is possible in Premier Pro via a setting. Elements is not clear on this matter.
I did record a wireless mic, and a camera mic simultaenously at times. I need this sound in mono track form to avoid ambient noise. Otherwise when you lower the track volume it affects both.

PrPro makes splitting a 2-channel stream easy, but as Steve points out, PrE does not. The assumption is that all 2-channel streams will be staying in that format.
Now, when I need to split 2-channel (or 6-channel) source material, I just use Adobe Audition. The great freeware program, Audacity, can also split the audio stream, but I cannot step you though that process, as I use Audition, where necessary.
    Good luck,

  • How to reput a mono track when it's in stereo?

I search how to put a track in mono when it's in stereo, we can do it easily on logic pro 9 but i don't find in logic pro X... Thanks!!!

I can't find it, for example, If I want to put the output of a stereo drums in a mono output I can't do it because I must to choose the stereo drums, but on logic pro 9 I can do it (to output a stereo instrument in a mono output even if it transform it in mono it's not a problem, it's to use on a analogic mixtable...)
    Thanks!
