2 more router questions

Hi everyone. I had a couple questions about some readings on my FIOS Actiontec router. Sorry if this is basic stuff, but I am still learning:
                    1) On the my main page where it shows my computer's wireless connection it reads that remote access is enabled. What does this mean?
                    2) On the Wireless Status page it shows something called WMM is enabled. What is WMM?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Well here is an update: I made a lot of changes on my computer based on the advice given to me on this forum. Based on what I changed, I would say it was a combination of remote microsoft and remote verizon processes/services running on my computer. Now that I have disabled or blocked many of those processes and services, the router no longer displays "remote access enabled".    Thanks to everyone who responded for your very helpful advice and information.

  • Every time I try to get on the ipod, it says I have to add more security questions, but none are listed, just two buttons that say submit.

    Every time I try to get on the Ipod games, it says I have to add more security questions, but no questions are listed, just two buttons that say "Submit" and places to put the answers to the unstated questions.  It also asks for a second email address.  It then proceeds to lock up.  Is this a scam of some sort.  There is nothing on the apple website about having additional security questions other than the one, or having a second email to operate the ipod.

    You need to contact Apple to get the questions reset. Click here, phone them, and ask for the Account Security team, or fill out and submit this form.
    Whichever method you use, you probably won't get a response until the 26th. If you absolutely must make a purchase before then, create a new Apple ID; you won't be able to transfer previous purchases or iTunes Store credit to it.

  • A Simpler, More Direct Question About Merge Joins

    This thread is related to Merge Joins Should Be Faster and Merge Join but asks a simpler, more direct question:
    Why does merge sort join choose to sort data that is already sorted? Here are some Explain query plans to illustrate my point.
    SQL> EXPLAIN PLAN FOR
      2  SELECT * FROM spoTriples ORDER BY s;
    PLAN_TABLE_OUTPUT
    |   0 | SELECT STATEMENT |              |   998K|    35M|  5311   (1)| 00:01:04|
    |   1 |  INDEX FULL SCAN | PKSPOTRIPLES |   998K|    35M|  5311   (1)| 00:01:04|
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Notice that the plan does not involve a SORT operation. This is because spoTriples is an Index-Organized Table on the primary key index of (s,p,o), which contains all of the columns in the table. This means the table is already sorted on s, which is the column in the ORDER BY clause. The optimizer is taking advantage of the fact that the table is already sorted, which it should.
    Now look at this plan:
    SQL> EXPLAIN PLAN FOR
      2  SELECT /*+ USE_MERGE(t1 t2) */ t1.s, t2.s
      3  FROM spoTriples t1, spoTriples t2
      4  WHERE t1.s = t2.s;
    Explained.
    PLAN_TABLE_OUTPUT
    |   0 | SELECT STATEMENT       |              |    11M|   297M|       | 13019 (6)| 00:02:37 |
    |   1 |  MERGE JOIN            |              |    11M|   297M|       | 13019 (6)| 00:02:37 |
    |   2 |   SORT JOIN            |              |   998K|    12M|    38M|  6389 (4)| 00:01:17 |
    |   3 |    INDEX FAST FULL SCAN| PKSPOTRIPLES |   998K|    12M|       |  1460 (3)| 00:00:18 |
    |*  4 |   SORT JOIN            |              |   998K|    12M|    38M|  6389 (4)| 00:01:17 |
    |   5 |    INDEX FAST FULL SCAN| PKSPOTRIPLES |   998K|    12M|       |  1460 (3)| 00:00:18 |
    Predicate Information (identified by operation id):
       4 - access("T1"."S"="T2"."S")
           filter("T1"."S"="T2"."S")I'm doing a self join on the column by which the table is sorted. I'm using a hint to force a merge join, but despite the data already being sorted, the optimizer insists on sorting each instance of spoTriples before doing the merge join. The sort should be unnecessary for the same reason that it is unnecessary in the case with the ORDER BY above.
    Is there anyway to make Oracle be aware of and take advantage of the fact that it doesn't have to sort this data before merge joining it?

  • More General Questions.

    Hi Guys,
    1. Is it better to "close" a production order or "technically complete" it after the production is complete? Will it make a difference?
    2. What dates are more important for tracking in a production order? Basic Dates or Actual Dates?
    3. I am planning on implementing cost center accounting to capture costs from the machine and labor times given in the routing. Is there any easier method?
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    Will give points.

    Dear Rao,
    1. Is it better to "close" a production order or "technically complete" it after the production is complete? Will it make a difference?
    It is not the question of which is better, they serve different purposes.
    TECO - The production order will not be relevant for MRP. Settlement can be done.
                Confimations and GR/GI of production order still possible.
    CLSD - The production order will not be relevant for MRP. If goods movements have taken place and / or activity booking done, then "closing" is <b>not possible</b> without settlement done. Confimations and GR/GI of production order <b>not possible</b>..
    2. What dates are more important for tracking in a production order? Basic Dates or Actual Dates?
    Both of the dates are important and have their roles to play.
    Basic dates are important for scheduling.
    Actual dates are important for leadtime scheduling and consequently capacity planning.
    3. I am planning on implementing cost center accounting to capture costs from the machine and labor times given in the routing. Is there any easier method?
    Your plan is nice and cool.
    Hope this will help you, please confirm.

  • Skills Based Routing Questions

    Hello,
    I have a question regarding skills based routing.  I am trying to use the algorithm of "Least skilled by order".  I am expecting the following:
    NY-CSQ
    (skills in order)
    - Shopping (skill)
    - Driving
    - Walking
    Boston-CSQ
    (skills in order)
    - Driving (skill)
    - Shopping
    - Walking
    LA-CSQ
    (skills in order)
    - Walking (skill)
    - Shopping
    - Driving
    Agents
    AgentA
    - Walking - 1
    - Shopping - 2
    - Driving - 2
    AgentB
    - Driving - 1
    - Walking - 2
    - Shopping - 3
    AgentC
    - Shopping - 1
    - Driving - 2
    - Walking - 3
    AgentD
    - Shopping - 1
    - Driving - 2
    - Walking - 3
    Assuming a call comes in for NY-CSQ and all agents are ready.  I'm expecting the call to go to longest available between AgentC and AgentD.  Instead, the call goes to AgentA who has the least overall skill.
    I cannot find in documentation the difference between "Least skilled", and "Least skilled by order".  In this case, assuming that AgentC and/or AgentD are available, I always want the call for NY-CSQ to go to them first based on the order of the skills in the CSQ.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Refer to CUCCX 7.0(1) Administration guide, pages 7-21 & 7-22.
    •Longest Available—Selects the agent who has been in the Available state for the longest amount of time.
    •Most Handled Contacts—Selects the agent who has answered the most handled calls.
    •Shortest Average Handle Time—Selects the agent who generally spends the least amount of time talking to customers.
    •Most Skilled—Used for expert agent call distribution. Selects the agent with the highest total competency level. The total competency level is determined by adding the agent’s competency levels for each of their assigned skills that are also assigned to the CSQ.
    –Example 1: If Agent1 is assigned Skill1(5), Skill2(6), and Skill3(7) and CSQ1 specifies Skill1(min=1) and Skill3(min=1), the total competency level for Agent1 for CSQ1 is 12.
    –Example 2: If Agent1 is assigned Skill1(5) and Skill2(6) and Skill3(7) and CSQ1 specifies Skill1(min=1), only, the total competency level for Agent1 for CSQ1 is 5.
    •Least Skilled—Used for expert agent call distribution. Selects the agent with the lowest total competency level. The total competency level is determined by adding the agent’s competency level in each assigned skill.
    •Least Skilled by Weight—Used for expert agent call distribution. Selects the agent with the lowest total competency level multiplied by the skill’s associated weight.
    •Most Skilled by Weight— Used for expert agent call distribution. Selects the agent with the highest total competency level multiplied by the skill’s associated weight.
    •Most Skilled by Order— Used for expert agent call distribution. Selects the agent with the highest total competency level in the ordered list.
    •Least Skilled by Order— Used for expert agent call distribution. Selects the agent with the lowest total competency level in the ordered list.
    Note: If two or more agents have equal competency level, then the selection automatically defaults to Longest Available selection criteria.

  • Connecting to the internet + one more Macbook question

    I've just noticed that I haven't updated my profile, but I am no longer using an eMac. That machine just died on me, so I've purchased my first Macbook. I've also moved into a new apartment, and cannot get connecting using the apartment's existing ethernet connection.
    My girlfriend has a cable modem and uses an ethernet cable to connect her PC. Our compters are on the same table, so we share the ethernet cable. But when I plug it ino my Macbook, no dice. Can't reach the internet. Any clues? I don't know a lot about internet connections, but I have my network settings set for a DHCP connection, and I'm told that it's all set correctly and should work. Maybe my girlfriend's connection only allows for one computer in the apartment?
    One more question: I don't like the color scheme on this new Macbook as much as I did my old eMac. On this one, the whites (for instance, the background of this page) seem "too white." So much so that it hurts my eyes. When I turn the brightness down, it makes the blues and grays look dull. But when I turn the brightness back up, the whites are blinding. Has anyone else noticed this?
    eMac 40GB 1.25 GHz G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    If your Sky router is anything like my Netgear, the problem is the way you have to enter the WEP password on a Mac. IIRC, there are a couple of options for the password format, and you need to choose the right one. I think they were Hex and ASCII. My password has to be entered as 26 characters of Hex - that's how the passkey is displayed in the router when you enter the password there for the first time.
    On a Windows machine, I just key that password in full. On my Macs, I have to tell it that I'm using Hex, not ASCII - there's a drop down box with all the various options somewhere that allows you to select the encryption type and the key format.
    For some reason, OS X isn't clever enough to work out whether you are entering Hex or ASCII.
    If you get really stuck, you can always disable WEP on the router - log in using a wired connection (usually you type 192.168.0.1 into Safari) and set wireless security to none. Check that your macbook can now connect wirelessly, then re-enable security, making a note of the new passkey.
    Might be worth doing this anyway, and choosing a more secure setting.

  • RV042 Static Routing Question

    I am currently using RV042 in the two-WAN backup mode. However, I tried the redundant option and am finding it to give me more bandwidth and better performance than only one of the WANs.
    My problem is that in the redundant mode, I am unable to use a few websites that I use on a regular basis. One of the sites is our internet hosted time sheet service and their site just goes crazy when I try to access it through the router set up in redundant mode. I am not even able to login to their site, and it is important for my daily work.
    My question is - can I set up static routes for certain sites so that the router knows to access them through only one of my WANs? For example, if my timesheet software site is 123.123.123.123, and my prefered WAN gateway is 68.68.68.68, can I tell the router to only access this site through the given gateway, even if the router is configured to use either WAN?
    I have tried static routes and it does not seem to work at all.
    For example:
    Site: 123.123.123.123
    SM: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway 68.68.68.68
    When I save this and run the tracert to 123.123.123.123, it goes through the other gateway, and not the one I specified here.
    Any hints are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alex P.

    If your using this in load balance mode, go to system management and scroll down to protocol binding.  Chances are your going to a secure site with both wans working and the site sees one connection with two ip addresses coming at it and breaks the connection.  You can do a protocol bind for all your https traffic to go out one wan for all the ip addresses in your network and this should fix the issue.  You can do this for mail and other protocols that would get messed up by the dual wan.  Hope this helps.

  • WRVS4400N 801.Q intra-vlan routing question

    Hi all,
    I have a question in regards to the 802.1Q intervlan feature on the WRVS4400N. My goal is to setup a test network with atleast 10 departmental VLAN(s). By reading the WRVS4400N's data sheet I know that it supports up to 4 VLAN(s). I decided to purchase a Linksys SRW224G4 since it can create more than 4 VLAN(s).
    With my previous Cisco experience I used to configure VLAN(s) on a Catalyst 2940 and trunk them to a Cisco 2501 series router by configuring trunk ports on the Catalyst and sub interfaces with 802.1q tagging on the routers.
    I was wondering if I could trunk 10 VLAN(s) from my SRW224G4 to my WRVS4400N?
    This is what I have tried to do so far
    On the SRW224G4 I configured 10 VLAN(s) and set port G1 as a trunk port to port 1 on my WRVS4400N.
    On my WRVS4400N I configured port 1 as a trunk port that accepts all frames.
    When I look at the LAN settings on my WRVS4400N it doesn't give me the option to configure gateways for my VLAN(s). Does this router only support 4 VLAN(s)? if it does is there another router I can look into that has the ability to support more than 4?
    I purchased the Linksys/Cisco small business series thinking that it can provide me with the basics to create a small network. I never thought the WRVS4400N would have a 4 VLAN limitation even when I trunk VLAN(s) from a switch.
    Thanks for the input guys
    Cheers

    Hello,
    i'm new here and planning to do something similar to what you suggest.
    I also have a slm2024 on which i plan to create more than 4 vlans. I'm looking for a gigabit router to route all my network and act as dhcp server. I will connect the switch to the router by a trunk.
    In my setup only 4 of my vlans will need a dhcp server. So if my understanding is correct, the integrated dhcp will be able to serve those 4 vlans if they are created on the router. Is it correct ? In this guide http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/csbr/wrvs4400n/administration/guide/WVRS4400N_Admin_Guide_v2.pdf page 60, there is an illustration of dhcp configuration but i don't see anything allowing to select the vlan. How does it work in fact ?
    In my ideal setup, i would like to distribute a different subnet by vlan. Ex : 192.168.2.0 for vlan 2; 192.168.3.0 for vlan 3; etc...
    For the other vlans i would affect static IPs.
    Is this setup possible with this router ? If it's not, which other cisco router would you suggest me ?
    Thanks in advance for your answer.

  • More UPS questions

    Having read through a rather lengthy post earlier with regards to UPS within this topic, i thought id start a new one up. As i have a few additional questions. Sorry if some come across as rather newbie but its an area that iv never really looked into before.
    As of the late the power supply round here has been very poor, living out in the sticks doesn't help. We often have outages along with a low supply. Lights dim etc. I understand this does more harm then just a straight power outage as there is nothing worse then a electrical item not getting a full and healthy supply. Which is why i'm starting to think my little 4 socket surge protection bar is a little inadequate. Soon im going to be upgrading to a Mac Pro, which i will be implementing a Raid 0 which further more encourages me to get a UPS. Not only because of the value of the MP but raid arrays are more susceptible to damage in the event of power problems which is something i can certainly do with out.
    So im weighing up between the APC RS1000 or RS1500. AS Ned and others seem to highly rate these units. I am also considering the equivalent belkin units the 1000VA and 1500VA. (F6C1000eiTW-RK & F6C1500eiTW-RK) There is nothing really between the units on spec or price from what i can make out. Except i prefer the physical look of the Belkin units. Not that it makes much difference really. Is there any reason to steer away from the belkins, any horror stories? Or reasons why the APC units are better?
    How much runtime would i get from say a 1500VA unit, running a Mac Pro, 2.66, 4 Hard drives, 1900XT, 4GB Ram, hooked up to a 23" Cinema display. Also supporting a Netgear all in one modem/router/switch. And possibly some other light draw peripherals. Also leaving room for future expansion.
    My final questions, most of the UPS i have looked at have 6/8 IEC connectors on the back, as opposed to standard plug sockets. I can understand why this is so as servers etc have these style power plugs, but how can i plug my stuff straight into it. As in standard house hold items that have normal plugs on the end of all there leads. Like my router and my monitor. Do i need some sort of adapters to convert my plug sockets to a 3 pin IEC (kettle lead?) connections. Its baffled me a bit, probably a stupid question. But one that had to be asked. Thank you to everyone in advance for your input. Cheers Adam
    2.0 GHz PPC 970MP (G5), 3.5GB ram, 23" Cinema Display + PowerBook G4/1.5 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    So, guessing you'd get around 15 minutes with the same setup with a 1500VA unit.
    That is fine, 15 minutes would give me ample time, and if i were not present at my machine i would rely on the UPS energy profile to shut the system down safely. Which i understand i can do. Using the USB interface that is on most modern UPS's. Clever stuff i like that feature.
    As for the D-type connectors on the back, you do get a number (anywhere from 2 to 4) of these cable to easily connect items like your Mac Pro and display.
    These included cables are they like a male kettle lead one end and female the other. So they can plug straight into the back of the mac pro? Or is it a cable that converts IEC to standard electrical socket. Which i can plug the standard mac pro power cable into this? I was under the impression the Mac pro didn'nt like being used with any think but its own power cable? Maybe thats an old wives tale. The only thing that uses a kettle lead is the mac pro. Everything else including my moniter which cable is hardwired into the back of the monitor has a standard 3 pin uk plug on the end. As you can see this area has me somewhat confused, as most house hold items now have built in wires with normal plugs on the end. So surely a decent UPS with 6/8 normal uk plug sockets on, would suit me better? if such a thing exists?
    Which is why i guess you have done this:
    For other items which require standard female socket I just made my own cables adapter cables to go from the D-type to a standard female into which I plug in a power board.
    Taken a normal power bar being 4/6 socket strip and wired an IEC connector to the bars lead instead of the standard plug? Do i understand you correctly there?
    Again sorry Ned for my stupidy with regards to this. Just seem to be having trouble getting my head round it. Cheers Pob

  • NAC Appliance in IB VGW L3 mode - routing question

    Hi!
    I'm testing Clean Access in In-band VGW mode with clients that are *not* directly connected to the CAS (i.e. L3-adj. mode).
    Can anybody tell me do I need to configure static routes on the CAS for user subnets? It seems that the CAS always send traffic via the trusted eth0 interface with the eth0 IP as the source. It doesn't use the eth1 IP (even if it is different than eth0 IP and the static route is pointing via the eth1).
    So, it seems that eth1 (untrusted side) IP doesn't really matter and static routes are not used in VGW mode. Is my understanding correct?

    Thanks a lot for the replay, however it doesn't help.
    > The traffic destine for client will have to come in the trusted and out the untrusted. The return traffic has to come in the untrusted and out the trusted.
    This is only correct from bridging point of view. This is *not* correct from routing point of view.
    1. As you know static routes are used to route traffic, right? And the routing is needed for *VGW* CAS solely to communicate with clients and the CAM.
    2. As you pointed out earlier "the CAS usually has the same IP address on trusted and untrusted interfaces", right?
    3. This IP address is needed for CAM-CAS communications, right?
    4. So, it must be from the same IP network as the CAS default gateway. For example, the CAS trusted (and untrusted) IP is 10.10.10.1, the default gateway for CAS is 10.10.10.2.
    5. At the same time the remote users are coming from the untrusted side. The previous-hop router (on the CAS untrusted side) has the IP address 192.168.88.1 and the next-hop router (on the CAS trusted side) has the IP address 192.168.88.2. The user's network is 172.16.172.0. So far, so good?
    6. What are you suggesting now: specify on the CAS the following IP route:
    172.16.172.0/24 via 192.168.88.1 (via untrusted eth1)
    7. The problem is that the untrusted (eth1) interface has the IP address 10.10.10.1 and the router has 192.168.88.1! They're on different subnets! Does this route make sense? It looks more like a shortcut than a normal route. Why not just use the default route pointing to the 10.10.10.2 to reach the 172.16.172.0? The traffic can reach user subnet 172.16.172.0 via the following path: 10.10.10.1(trusted intf)->10.10.10.2->192.168.88.2->192.168.88.1->172.16.172.x!
    The only question is: which interface, trusted or untrusted, the CAS will use to communicate with clients in case it has the same IP on the untrusted and trusted interfaces and no other routes configured, except the default route?
    I know for sure, if the VGW CAS has different IPs on the trusted and untrusted interfaces, it always use the trusted interface to communicate with clients!
    Pretty clear, right?

  • Agent Selection/Routing Question

    Hello:
    I wanted to run a question by the group to get some feedback on a question I have surrounding Agent routing within UCCX (8.5 su4).
    Here is the setup of the environment:
    CSQ1: General
    Routing Criteria: LAA
    CSQ2: Spanish
    Routing Criteria: Most Skilled
    Agent1
    has Skills of General and Spanish.
    Their competency is the same within both skills.
    Question: Calls are in queue for both CSQ's, although the call in the spanish CSQ has been in queue longer.  And agent 1 goes ready.  Whats currently happening is that agent 1 is getting another call from the General Queue as opposed to getting it from the spanish queue.
    How do I ensure that agent 1 gets the call from the spanish CSQ over the general CSQ?  Each CSQ needs to keep the Routing Criteria the same.
    My thought is that it has to be one of these two items, if not a combination of both.
    Decrease the Competency of all General agents to a (5) and Making the Spanish competency higher then 5.
    in the script, for Spanish Calls use the Set Priority Node to increase Spanish queued calls to be at like a 5, to ensure all spanish calls have a higher priority then general Calls.
    Any feedback would be appreciated!

    Hi Sean
    All calls on the system if you are not using priority steps already should be answered FIFO... provided that there are agents available in the queue that the first call came in (i.e. they meet the minimum competency). Competency, skills/LAA and all those algorythms only affect who gets the call, not which one is served first. The exception to that is if the competency excludes some agents from the CSQ completely.
    So a call that arrives in 'Spanish' first should be routed to agents first, as long as there are agents available. Does the same apply if the agent is 'ready' but on a call for example? E.g. call voicemail as the agent, then put a call in to spanish, then one in general, and see which one comes through first.
    Priority will work, but will mean that Spanish calls alway queue jump. Priority is absolute, so a p2 call will jump in front of all other lower-priority calls regardless of how long they have been there.
    If you just want first-come-first-served, then that's what you should have by default.

  • BT Infinity - HG612 and second router question

    Hi,
    I've got an odd question. I have BT Infinity and have the HG612 VDSL modem. Does anyone know if and how it can be configured to bridge its WAN connection to another router? For work I need site-to-site VPN access, which is performed by this other router. Unfortunately it needs to own the WAN address, so I need to configure the HG612 to bridge the address with it. Has anyone does this? Is the HG612 even capable of doing this?
    I can't find any user manuals on it.
    Thanks,
    Simon

    "Very proud of myself this afternoon.  I'm not much of an expert when it comes to DIY but I have managed to hardwire the router from the back of my house to the office on the first floor at the front.  After much contemplation, I decided to buy some external cat5e cable and run this along the same points as the SKY feed.  The result looks pretty good and I can now get 37.5Mbps upstairs as well as down. Result."

  • A few more Solaris questions

    I'm sure this isn't the best place to post this, but I currently have a file server running Solaris 11 with a raid-z2 pool and I'm building a new vmware server out of some parts I've managed to get some good deals on might I add.
    I'm building on a supermicro x8dt3-f board that has an LSI controller on board with a pair of xeon 5570's and 48gb ram. The processors and ram actually came from a sun blade that was tossed out for recycling, sadly the box had never been opened, but i got these for pennies on the dollar, so i'm happy
    I'd like to move the current Solaris file server into a VM on the new ESXi 5.1 host and passthrough the LSI controller.
    I've been reading, and reading and reading and i find the more i read, the more questions I have and the less clear some of the answers are getting.
    First, from what I gather, Solaris 11 has only been added to the supported guest list in ESXi with the recent esxi 5.1 version as I understand? So all should be fine here? Can someone confirm?
    second, i've read about issues with LSI controllers under solaris 11. Is this something that has been addressed in 11.1?
    Third, trying to find the best method to conver the physical system to virtual under ESXi
    The first thing I plan on doing is backing up my data from the pool, though it will be scattered across a few systems. Then I plan on exporting the pool to move the disks physically to the new controller in the VM. The question I have here, is will the share flags and permissions be retained when I import the pool? or do I have to redo all that?
    But then, what's the best method to move it to a VM? The one document I see come up the most is moving a physical solaris system into a zone on another system. Can it be transferred to the global zone? Could I do a new install in a VM, and move the existing install to the global zone, import my pool and call it a daY?
    Or do I dd the OS disk, convert the image and drop it into vmware, get the hardware working, and then import the pool?
    Or is there a better way? Has anyone got any online docs in mind that may help specifically with this migration? everything i'm finding is scattered, maybe i'm not looking for the right things but I could use some pointers if anyone has suggestions.
    I suppose I should note, i have it integrated with an Active directory, this is why i'm worried about permissions being retained when i import the pool
    I just want this to go as quickly and smoothly as possible, with as little headache as possible. it's my home setup, so realistically it takes the time it takes as long as things go smooth

    I know this may not be the answer you are looking for, but I think you are making it more difficult than it needs to be.
    One other option is to leave your Solaris Storage server on the bare metal of this new beast of a machine you are piecing together. Then, use VirtualBox 4.2.6 which is support quite well in Solaris to run whatever virtual machines you where intending ESXi to be used for.
    This way you have the fastest possible storage setup without the issues of hardware passthrough. And the fast storage now benefits the VMs running on it. Not to mention the other neat options now of running lzjb compression for the VMs. either using zvols for the VMs, or just virtualbox vdi files sitting on a compressed zfs filesystem.
    As far as the LSI 1068E controller goes, their website only shows drivers for Solaris 10. So unless Solaris 11 has the drivers built in, you may not be able to use that controller. Believe me I feel your pain in this one.. I have the d#$$!est time finding good SAS HBAs for Solaris 11.1 and the few I did find had questionable drivers. Areca 1320 cards seem to work well, as do Adaptec 64xx and 68xx raid cards. LSI has a new line that supposedly works with Solaris 11.
    My advice is to try a baremetal install of Solaris 11.1 on the new machine and see if you can recognize drives on the LSI controller, if not then use the 6 onboard SATA ports if that is enough for the drives. Otherwise purchase an Areca 1320 which is only like 230 bucks for the 8 port version. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816151116R

  • More JTextPane Questions

    Hi Guys
    I posted this question on the Java Ranch forums yesterday evening, but I haven't received a response yet, so I figured that I'd try these forums as well. You can view the other thread here; http://www.coderanch.com/t/554155/GUI/java/JTextPane-Questions.
    We're trying to build a simple WYSIWYG HTML editor using a JTextPane. I've used Charles Bell's example, available here; http://www.artima.com/forums/flat.jsp?forum=1&thread=1276 as a reference. My biggest gripe with it at the moment is that bullets aren't working as I would expect them to. If I highlight text and click the "Bullet" button, I want a bullet to be placed immediately before the highlighted text, on the same line. If I try to do this, my code is creating bullets, but it moves the selected text one line down. I've gone through the Oracle tutorial on text components, but I couldn't find anything that helped me with this particular issue.
    Also, if I copy and paste text into my JTextPane, the pasted text always appears on a new line (a new paragraph tag in the actual HTML). Is there a way to prevent the JTextPane from creating new paragraphs?
    Lastly, I'm flabbergasted as to why my buttons actually work. I can't see anything that explicitly links my buttons to my HTMLEditorKit or my JTextPane. Short of a little voodoo man living under my keyboard, how on earth do my buttons/actions know that they should update the JTextPane?
    The code is as follows;
    package myhtmleditor;
    import java.awt.BorderLayout;
    import java.awt.FlowLayout;
    import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
    import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
    import javax.swing.Action;
    import javax.swing.JButton;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JPanel;
    import javax.swing.JScrollPane;
    import javax.swing.JTextPane;
    import javax.swing.SwingUtilities;
    import javax.swing.text.StyledEditorKit;
    import javax.swing.text.html.HTML;
    import javax.swing.text.html.HTMLDocument;
    import javax.swing.text.html.HTMLEditorKit;
    public class Main {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
                public void run() {
                    JFrame frame = new JFrame("My HTML Editor");
                    frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
                    frame.setSize(500, 500);
                    frame.setLayout(new BorderLayout());
                    JPanel buttonsPanel = new JPanel(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.LEFT));
                    HTMLDocument document = new HTMLDocument();
                    final JTextPane htmlEditorPane = new JTextPane(document);
                    Action bold = new StyledEditorKit.BoldAction();
                    Action italic = new StyledEditorKit.ItalicAction();
                    Action underline = new StyledEditorKit.UnderlineAction();
                    JButton boldButton = new JButton(bold);
                    boldButton.setText("Bold");
                    buttonsPanel.add(boldButton);
                    JButton italicButton = new JButton(italic);
                    italicButton.setText("Italic");
                    buttonsPanel.add(italicButton);
                    JButton underlineButton = new JButton(underline);
                    underlineButton.setText("Underline");
                    buttonsPanel.add(underlineButton);
                    HTMLEditorKit.InsertHTMLTextAction bulletAction = new HTMLEditorKit.InsertHTMLTextAction("Bullet", "<ul><li> </li></ul>", HTML.Tag.BODY, HTML.Tag.UL);
                    JButton bulletButton = new JButton(bulletAction);
                    bulletButton.setText("Bullet");
                    buttonsPanel.add(bulletButton);
                    JButton printButton = new JButton("Print to Console");
                    printButton.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
                        public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
                            System.out.println(htmlEditorPane.getText());
                    buttonsPanel.add(printButton);
                    htmlEditorPane.setContentType("text/html");
                    HTMLEditorKit editorKit = new HTMLEditorKit();
                    htmlEditorPane.setEditorKit(editorKit);
                    frame.add(buttonsPanel, BorderLayout.NORTH);
                    frame.add(new JScrollPane(htmlEditorPane), BorderLayout.CENTER);
                    frame.setVisible(true);
    }Thank you for your input.
    Cheers,
    rfnel

    See how the bullet action changes HTML (compare getText() result before and after the bullet applying. It seems you need more smart way of adding bullets.
    Answer some questions if user selects whole paragraph should the <p> tag be removed and replaced with <li>? If user selects just one word in the paragraph and pressed bullet should the whole paragraph be bulleted?
    When you copy something you clipboard contains something like this "<html><body> content</body></html>". Try to override read() method of your kit (or Reader) to skip the main tags.
    For components see ObjectView class source.
    In fact when HTMLDocument is created from String components classes are created and stored in attributes of Elements. Then during rendering ComponentView extension (ObjectView) creates components.
