I have never seen different page sizes in one document, but to make sure of this can someone confirm this?

  • Different page sizes in one pdf file will not scale to print correctly

    Hello all,
I have a pdf document that contains three different page sizes; 8.5"x11", 11"x17" and 34"x22".  These pdf files are custom manuals and we print many of these over the course of a month.
In the older versions of Adobe Acrobat when printing this type of file, I could click print, select the page setup size to 11"x17", then select shrink oversize pages (or fit, depending), and choose paper by pdf page size and I would get the following pages from the printer - 8.5"x11" page would print on a 8.5"x11" paper, 11"x17" on 11"x17" and (most importantly) 34"x22" on 11"x17".  We do this because our printer does not have paper larger than 11"x17" yet the customer also receives a soft copy of the file and many times prints the large pages full size as needed on their large format plotters.
With the newer versions of Acrobat, this will not work.  The only way these files will print automatically is to scale the 22"x34" down to 8.5"x11".   Why would I want to scale it smaller than my largest available paper size?  Also, all of the 11"x17" pages in a multi page size document will come out of the printer rotated 180° yet Adobe shows them correctly when the file is opened.
Also, when I use the settings above, the print preview box shows the document correctly!  The HP technicians have the latest drivers installed and they have shown me where it seems that Adobe is not even sending the larger sheets but instead stops the printing process with an error.  So I try to send a 20 page document but Adobe stops at the first 22x34 page.
We have now lost our old computers with every last old version of Acrobat that I could use to make this work due to mandatory hardware and OS upgrades.  I must find a way to print these documents without individually selecting different pages to print and then trying to assemble the document afterward.
How do I preserve the pages sizes in my document and print the large pages scaled down to the largest paper size I have available in my printer?
    Thanks ahead of time.

    Ajlan,
Thank you for your time.  I am still having the issue.  I am using Adobe reader 11.0.09 and Adobe Acrobat 10.1.12.  Neither one have the option in the print menu that you show for a physical printer.  They only offer that option for an Adobe PDF creation driver.
It seems as though the printer you have selected in your menu is only for creating a pdf.  I need to physically print the pdf.  Do you have this same option when you select a physical printer?

  • Getting iTunes to see music files on a different drive

My main HD failed, so I've been re-installing all my apps. I had all my music files on a separate internal drive.
I have tried everything I can think of, to get iTunes to "see" all my music files. I've held down the option key when starting iTunes. It will ask to find the library, I will choose the folder where all the music is stored, but it still doesn't show up in iTunes.
I've also tried putting an alias of the folder containing the music in the Music folder. Nothing.
I don't want to drag the music folder into the iTunes window, because I don't want to duplicate all the files to the new, master drive.
    Help! TIA, Bob

iTunes doesn't "see" new files in a folder.
When you set iTunes prefs to a new location, it will simply put all new music in the library in that location.
iTunes prefs -> Advanced. Set the iTunes music folder location to where your music is on the external.
Go to iTunes menu File -> Add folder to library and select the topmost music folder on the external where your music is located.
This will add them to the iTunes library and keep them on the external.

    Hello
Any help would be really appreciated as I'm new to all this!
I have dragged an mp3 file from Itunes into the welcome page of a site I'm making on IWeb.

I tried removing it but its gone from the actual page but when I save the site ready to upload with ftp the mp3 is there in one of the welcome files, also when I go to the site at work using firefox its looking for Quicktime to play it but you can't see it on the page!
    Many Thanks

  • Sharing music files between two different iPods.

Someone is about to purchase a new iPod and would like to load my iPod music library to their PC. What is the best way to go about this? Thanks.

Sharing copyrighted material with a friend is illegal - it doesn't matter if it's from a CD, iTunes, or any other source. Sorry.
    Please don't steal music.

  • I'm opening a garageband file on a different computer than the one it was made on, and my drum loops are playing as low pitched beeps instead of the jazzy brushes I want. I believe my version is more up-to-date than what I used first. How can I fix this?

I believe I said it all in the question...

Could it be that you had more instruments on the old computer? Or haven't correctly installed the instruments on the new one?
Obviously, GB hasn't assigned a drum instrument to the track that the drum notes are on (my guess: since it doesn't have the desired drum set.) Press cmd-I to make the track info pane visible and pick one of the drum sets for that track.

  • ITunes 6.0.3 destroyed my music files (mp3 and m4a).

iTunes 6.0.1 has destroyed a significant amount of my 35,000 song library. Not just the library, but the SONG FILES. Take a look:
    http://riggswerks.com/itunes/diy_gaps.gif
This is an mp3 file that has been opened in Peak. See all those gaps? They were added by iTunes.
What happens is when a song that has been damaged like this goes to play, iTunes will only play it till its first gap (in the case of the screenshot song, about 2 seconds). Once it hits the gap, it moves on to the next song in the playlist. For some reason, iTunes is adding the gaps and duplicating small portions of the song in between the gaps, cutting off several seconds of the song ending, etc. So, it wouldn't be as simple as cutting out the gaps in a sound editing program, because song data has been added as well. The files are useless. I tried to upload one, but my ftp client wouldn't allow a file that severely damaged to be moved.
    Two questions:
    a) Is iTunes 6.0.1 safe to use? I'm scared to death that it will end up trashing more of my music, so I reverted to version 5, and locked my dedicated 250GB music hard drive. Anyone out there that can help explain what's going on would be tremendously helpful.
    and
    b) It seems that once there is a screwed up song in the iTunes library, it forces any overwritten file for the bad songs to adopt the gaps and characteristics of the previous version. For example, I reburned a couple of these bad songs from the original CD and selected for iTunes to replace the songs as they burned (after unlocking the hard drive)- when I went to play it, the new song- ripped straight from CD minutes before- had the same gapping problems. How can I reimport my good versions of these files if iTunes adopts the gaps and errors? I'm stuck.

  • One document... different page sizes?

Hi! I just upgraded to InDesign CS4. My boss wants me to create a flipbook. I have the October issue of InDesign Magazine which will help. However, the document I want to turn in to a flipbook has 6 regular-sized page (8.5x11) and one larger page (11x17). I know in Quark (which I much more familiar with) you cannot have different page sizes within one document. Can you do this in InDesign? Thanks.
    Julie

Having played with this a bit, let me ask this a different way. I'm taking a printed document that is like a regular magazine (except it's much shorter). It has a front cover which is 8.5 x 11 and a back cover which is 8.5x11. All interior pages are 2-page spreads. From what I can tell, I have to create the pages in InDesign 4 and export them as an swf file. This currently creates all 2-page spreads. So... how do I get the front and back covers to be single pages? I can do it so that the other half of the spread is blank, but that's not what I want. I want it it to "act" like a real magazine. Thanks.

  • How to move music files within "Gallery"

I have music files in "Tracks" and in "Sound clips", how do I move those in "Sound clips" to "Tracks"? I didn't see any options which enable me to do that.
Also all my music files are in memory card's "Sound clip" "digital" folder, so why does some files goes to clips and some goes to tracks?
For your information, the files that are in sound clips are wav, the ones goes to tracks are mp3s.
I need to have this fixed because music player/music library don't recognize the music in gallery's sound clips folder (wav).
Thanks for any help.Message Edited by tom2517 on 18-Jul-200709:20 AM

with the mp3 sound clip highlighted press left soft key then "move to folder"

  • Reinstalled iTunes and need to get music files back on

    Hi Everybody.
Basically, I had to reinstall my iTunes software after my ipod broke and they gave me a new one. I am running iTunes 4 I think, because for some reason it is the only on that wants to work on our computer.
The new iPod is working fine, and so is iTunes, but our music files didn't come back up automatically and I need some advice for getting them back on itunes. I've played with it a bit, but I didn't want to go clicking and dragging a bunch of folders to where they might not belong.
Thanks, if you can offer me any help it will be much appreciated. Sean

However, all signs point to "I erased all my itunes music files."
    Bummer
is there anything else to try or is my music gone?
Do you still have all or most or some of your music on the iPod? If so:
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…

MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
iPodRip Software (Free trial: Mac & Windows)
    PodUtil Software (Mac & Windows)
YamiPod Software (Free: Mac & Windows)
    PodPlus Software (Windows)
    TuneJack Software (Windows)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple & Free Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
    1 - Open iTunes
    2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to manual transfer – click ‘OK’
    6 – Eject iPod
7 – Close iTunes, then reopen iTunes and attach the iPod (it’s in manual sync now)
    8 – File=>Add Folder
9 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod (or the lower ‘\iPod_Control’ sub-folder)
    10 - Click OK
-- The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes with its correct information
–-- This will take some time depending on your PC’s speed and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method.
If you have problems with seeing the iPod within 'My Computer', try again switching your update method to 'manual', detach the iPod, then reconnect the iPod to the PC.
After recovering your Library, strongly consider developing a thorough and frequent backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy:

  • Is there a way to find out whether all of my music files have been imported to iTunes?

Is there a way to find  out whether all of my music files on the computer have been imported to iTunes?
I want to consolidate my music files to tidy it all up into one place, and then delete the originals. I don't want to delete any music until I know that it's all been imported.
    Thanks.

Try iTunes Folder Watch and point it all the places you store media. When you're happy everything has been imported you can consolidate.
See also this post on Duplicates which includes a link to a backup tip.

  • Ipod music file transfer

I have an iMac in the states that's in storage with my entire music library & I used it to load up my ipod before leaving. Now I'm stationed overseas and recently purchased a Powerbook G4. I know there's safeguarding to prevent cross computer ipod sharing. But is there any way to bypass this with Apple directly by proving dual ownership of the computers & any way to prove the music files currently on my ipod came from one of the Macs I own? Or am I stuck hoping this ipod behaves for the next few years?

  • Large music file synch problem

Synching iTunes-iPhone works fine but for one issue - have a couple of (iTunes purchased) Nike training programs consisting of multiple music files and one large one which is the actual 40 minutes training program. Just under 40 Mb small.
All the music files synchs works as normal, and the progress bar shows the big training files to be copied over but no trace of them on the iPhone. Tried changing folders to synch etc etc to no avail.
iPhone 8GB, Orange bog standard setup, last OS and all updates etc. Music in question bougth at iTunes Store in France (which is the locality)

    Hehe, thanks anyway!
Nope it's not a video, just a looong piece of music file (whole 40 minutes training sequence in one go - almost 40 Mb).
And I've been all over the iPhone - genres, compilations, albums, composers...even in podcats, videos and podcasts. All the other songs on the albums are where they should be, just not these two (two albums - speed and endurance programs).
Tried single file update and as in all other cases, progress bar shows it going over but no race of it on the iPhone. Tried changing names on the files in case the funny French accents messed up, but nooo...
    Baffling.

  • Can I simply copy and paste an existing library file from XP to a Mac and then copy and paste the music files themselves? Of course, the music files will be in a different location...

    Hello Gurus,
I have an aged XP machine with a large music library in ITunes. iTunes will not run any longer (tried uninstalling and reinstalling etc to no avail) but the music files are backed up onto an external drive so all safe. I have purchased a Mac which of course already has iTunes installed and I can copy the music files onto the Mac, but can I simply copy and paste the iTunes library files from the XP machine to the Mac so that all of the playlists, tags, ratings etc transfer, or do I have to start again?
    Thanks for the advice.

Sounds like you have a split library. Ideally you would make this portable before attempting to move it to the Mac. See make a split library portable for details.
Perhaps you can get iTunes running on the old box long enough to sort things out...
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
You will also want to deauthorize the XP system once everything is working properly on the Mac.
