2 nanos to one computer

how do i set up my wifes and i's two nanos so that they work on one computer. i have tried without much succes as the computer recognises my nano as my wifes and synchronises to her settings ?

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically three ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
a) Sharing a single iTunes library
b) Creating Multiple Libraries in a single user account
c) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): iPod - Syncing Music
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
Multiple Libraries
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here:

  • Two IPod Nanos On One Computer..HELP

My son has an IPod Nano and has all his songs on my computer, he received free songs when we first hooked it up to ITunes.
Problem, my daughter now has the same IPod and is using my computer to get her music as well. When we first hooked hers up, she did not receive free music like my son did even though hers is registered too. How does she get the free music and how do we get it so she has her own music list? They do not like the same music and it is trying to put my son's music on hers.
    Please someone help.

  • Multiple iPod Nano's one computer?

I have 3 Nano's in my houshold and each owner has different music interests. What is the best way to manage all 3 using one computer?

    Hello,
You can create a playlist for each person. Everybodys music will still be in the library. But this way each playlist will display only the music they want. You can manually or auto sync each iPod to a specific playlist. I have a playlist I update manually for my nano and its pretty easy to search through the library to find want you want.
    Hope this helps!

  • Connecting 2 Ipod Nanos to One computer

my boyfriend and I both have ipod nanos and want to connect them to one computer. We have setup one of the nanos and it works perfectly, but the second one won't connect and won't be recognized by itunes. What do we need to do so we can connect both ipods to same computer?

There are 2 different issues here
One iPod Nano won't be recognized by iTunes
In most case, the reason behind is caused by the PC, since you get one iPod recognized, so clearly is the problem of your Nano, please do a Reset see if it helps

  • Using two iPod Nanos on one computer

I just bought my husband an iPod Nano identical to mine (2Gb) but when I connect it to the computer, the setup assistant does not appear. When I go into device manager, it shows iPod and a question mark with an exclamation point superimposed. Any idea what to do to get the computer to recognize this second iPod?
    Thanks

We have two identical ipods and also have different
music tastes, so when I download music onto one it

Set them to "manually manage music".

  • Transfer 3rd generation Nano from one computer to a new computer

My daughter got a new computer. Originally, her iPod was set up and registered on my computer. I'm trying to move her iPod registration and library from my computer to her new one. We have just installed iTunes on the new machine. You can see the songs on the iPod, but can't pull them from the iPod and put them on the new machine (they'er kind of greyed out). What should I do?

  • Two Nano's-One computer

My son was given a nano as a birthday present and I already have one. How do we set up two music libraries in itunes? There is content in mine that I do not want him to have access to. We need two seperate libraries so he can also use his giftcards.
Thanks for any help you can give.

If you want completely separate libraries, the most practical way will be to set up two different user accounts in Windows. Then you can each have your own set of tracks and videos.

  • 2 nanos but one computer

Can I have a separate music library for my ipod but on the same computer as my husband's library? He doesn't like my songs - I don't like his! Tried naming the ipods different names but when I started erasing songs they synced out of both ipods.

Have created 2 separate accounts on the same computer - thanks so much for that help. NOW.... I have music on both ipods, but only have music on one account. How do I sync with the 'new' account without erasing the ipod. My understanding is the computer(itunes) is the master and the ipod follows suit. Is this right?

  • 2 Ipods (video and nano) on one computer.  HOW?

I have a video ipod and a nano. I am trying to get them to share the same library, but am not having any luck. Can anyone let me know how to do this. The video ipod was originally set up on a different library (windows). I de-authorized it, but it won't sync. Will I lose all existing purchased music/videos in the process?

Each of you should create a separate playlist, with only the music you want.
Then open iTunes prefs -> iPod and set it to Automatically update only selected playlists.

  • How many Shuffles can I register on one computer?

I'm planning on purchasing 7 shuffles for groomsmen gifts. I'd like to add the same playlist to each one.
Can I register this many shuffles - along with my own nano - on one computer?
    Thanks.

As said you prolly want to post this in iPod section, but to my knowledge I don't think there's a limit as to how many devices you can register to a computer's iTunes account.
There is, however, a limit (think 5) to the number of computers you can authenticate an iTunes account to. But that won't affect the scenario you mention.
    Congrats.... Cool gift idea btw.

  • How to connect multiple nanos and minis to one computer and share content

I have 3 iPod nano's and 1 iPod mini in my house and would like to make a central repository of music on one computer that can be shared across nanos where users can select all or some of the available tunes. How can I do this?

You could use the update option "automatically update selected playlists only" would allow you to create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPods. Make your playlist a Smart playlist and limit the size to just below the advertised capacity of your iPod ( for example, around 3700MB for a 4GB or 1800MB for a 2GB Mini or Nano). You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    To select the update option.
    iTunes 6
Connect your iPod to your computer and when it appears in the Source list go to Edit>iTunes>Music Tab (iTunes>Preferences>Music tab on a Mac).
Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    iTunes 7
Connect your iPod to your computer and when it appears in the Source list click on it to show the preference tabs in the main pane. Choose the following option and click "Apply".
Sync Music - Selected playlists. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer. You'll find this in the Music Tab.

How can I use my iPod nano on more than one computer?

    Hi, China6450.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would recommend setting up Manually manage music.  This will only allow music to be synced from the computer to the iPod nano.  Here are some helpful articles that will walk you through the process.

  • Using Nano on more than one computer

Is the iPod Nano crippled like the Shuffle? I.e., is it tied to only one computer or does it behave like other iPods?
    Thanks
    JHTH

Is the iPod Nano crippled like the Shuffle?
Depends on what you mean by crippled. I have an iPs and it doens't seem to be crippled to me, but some people consider the lack of a screen to be crippling.
does it behave like other iPods?
Mine misbehaves all the time. I have to continually put it in time-out and even that only lasts for a few hours. Then it misbehaves again.
