2 phones communicating

hi there i was wondering how is it possible to get 2 phones 2 talk 2 eachother?
i want 2 make a simple turn based game, but i first need to know how to send simple strings from one computer to another

If you are not specifically working on any particular phones and/or network, try the Push Registry .
http://developers.sun.com/techtopics/mobility/midp/articles/pushreg/
If you are working on networks such as iDEN where the phones always have a static IP then you can try to use UDP to talk to each other.

  • I Think It's Time That Verizon Opens Up Testing Of Updates & Firmware To The Windows Phone Community!!!

Waiting for Verizon to release updates on a reasonable time table has become a complete failure.  If you only have a couple technicians in house testing the 4-5 devices you only carry and it takes this long, there's a problem with your technicians.
If you don't want to allocate the time, money and resources to a platform that your sales reps never push or even mention in stores, or on your website or over the phone, I think it's time to either drop the line completely or turn to the Windows Phone Community to do your job for you.
I think it's time that Verizon takes a queue from Microsoft and opens up testing of updates and firmware to any and all Windows Phone Users that want to help the cause and better support the platform in the process.  You can have your legal department draft up a clause that releases Verizon of any liability if a user opts to test updates or firmware.
What else better than to have the Community help in the cause (in masses) over the limited few technicians you have in house testing out the updates and firmware.  You will get all the feedback you will need to make a proper decision as to push the updates or firmware or go back to Microsoft and make fixes to any/all bugs that are found.
In a technological age we live in, to not take advantage of a community of users who would be more than willing to test out products, goods, services, you are just shooting yourself in the foot.
If you look at the numbers of how many users signed up to be part of Microsoft's Developer Preview app, you will see that there are millions of users willing to take the risk in order to help the cause while being a part of the testing process, making the platform better in the long run.
It's time for change, it's time to embrace the community, it's time to respond at let the community know one way or another if we are going to get updates and firmware in a timely manner... and not just one update or firmware in a year cycle.
Windows (9) is going to be released to the general public as Technical Preview on September 30, and you can guarantee that millions of users are going to download the OS and test it out and submit feedback via the OS and Microsoft's Community Forum in order to make it a success...  So why don't you Verizon do the same and open up beta testing of updates and firmware to the Windows Phone Community here!!!
Think about it, take a poll... but do something, one way or another... It's time to stop keeping us paying customers in the dark regarding updates and firmware that improves the experience, enhances our devices and provides the security that we need for our phones.  If you take good care of us, we will continue to be customers, renew our contracts or even sign up for Verizon Edge Accounts.
But if you keep us in the dark, you can guarantee that you will get customers leaving when there contracts are up because Windows Phone Users are loyal to Windows Phone... PERIOD!!!
Waiting for Tidbits and Elector to grace my post with there constant negativity and start a war of words as usual... since they love stirring the pot and angering the Windows Phone Community every time they reply to posts.  I just can't believe they spend that much time here on the forums replying if they are not a paid Verizon employee or a paid basher from a competing platform.

Well I found nothing wrong in your post. So why even make a statement like the quote I included?
Once more I am a retired government employee. So I have the time to post. Or has my rights been taken away to voice an opinion?
Your posts was great you were not whining about your rights to file complaints to the FCC or FTC etc. One of the best I have read.
And I am not trying to sway you from your phone choice. If you looked at my avitar it shows apple iphones. But I use and have used androids and not Windows phones.
However your numbers of windows phone users all leaving over the issue is miniscule in the number of users of Android and iOS devices.
I have written many times I wish all the devices get updated like iOS devices do. But at present that is not happening
No bashing, no adversarial post just a little common sense is all I use.
And again your post was great.
    Good Luck

    @grschinon:
Several hits on conversations.nokia.com, but the best explanation I found, which is more in line with what I read in the past, is on this page, posted 2009-Aug-13:
"I feel that the whole SIP client story is one of those (no flames, please). Nokia took out the client expecting IT departments and independent developers to create a better SIP client. Sure, there are VoIP clients, which cover the majority of folks. But the folks who want a proper SIP client on their phone ended up not having any developer make anything for them.
Usually, independent developers drive innovations in a platform, whether it be Windows or Symbian or whatnot. In the case of SIP, when Nokia built a phone, with all the foundation needed for SIP, no one came – no Cisco, no IBM, no one."
A rewrite of the underlying SIP stack shouldn't cause Nokia to pull out the front-end client.  If you think about it, a SIP client would be very useful during the SIP stack rewrite for testing and validation (in addition to the unit tests, I'm sure).
In any case, I guess I was looking for something officially stated by Nokia (as you suggested) rather than blogs, unless they are backed by sources.

  • Why are there no plans for BlackBerry? How are Android and Nokia phones priority over BlackBerry's? Big mistake no? You're excluding a big sector, please advise

I just want to know whey Mozilla is excluding a big sector of the mobile phone community. There are so many more BlackBerry users at least here in the US than Android and Nokia phone users. Please advise why I have to be excluded from using my favorite browser on my BlackBerrry Torch 9800.

We do have plans to create a BlackBerry version of our iOS app, Firefox Home. For details, see http://blog.mozilla.com/mobile/2010/09/28/firefox-home-looking-to-the-future/

  • Please Don't Make Same Sony-Ericsson Mistakes

Congratulations on your Erricsson's share acquire, i must say i have been Sony phone holder from the day SONY CDM-Z1 was created, forced my self to stick with SE... and now happy to come back to SONY again. i would like to talk about couple of things...
    Response:
The major fall of SE is the fact that they did not listen to fans and most importantly customers. we complained so much over Xperia X1 and Xperia X10 until SE forced us to purchase other brands due to lack of response. so please, responding to complaints is critical when there are so many better phone makers out there.
    Lack of future vision:
Look at the Galaxy S, Galaxy Sii, Iphone... you know what they have in common? light years technology for the same price as Caved in SE phones. Arc vs Sii?... SE was against technology for some reason, for instance. who ever was against dual processor and how much it would attract customers, needs to find another company to put down. Lack of LTE?, how can someone not find that as something a cell phone can use in the future? Market share in USA? why would someone not give the US attention, no one buys a full priced phone these days, that only worked when there was no contracts. these days i don't mind a contract as long as i am getting a phone a i can not afford. also i never understood this frequency difference, why did SE wait until iPhone 4s marketed the idea a "world phone" that works anywhere? why did SE insist on making an american version and an international version? example ARC LT15A and ARC LT15i is it SO HARD to make a phone that has all the frequencies LT15Ai? really? who ever was against that idea needs to go as well.
Wrong Focus, right focus was a little too late:
SE phones especially in 2011 was way behind any other company in smart phones, yes the ARC S was maybe a nice attempt but simply not enough... the world is advancing really fast, if you dont catch the train, then your about to bankrupt. it took forever to jump on really powerful phones and instead there so many variations. you can get a cyber-shot but not a Walkman.. you can get a walkman phone but not as smart as the p900 you can get the p900 but not as slim as the p600. SE was competing with its own self ... lets FOCUS, get your stuff together and make a Quality phone not Quantity phone. (GOOD JOB ON THE TABLET) the variations are based on needs not confusing differences. The ARC was a great phone, but SE had missed the train.
    THE UPDATES:
The most frustrating customer service i have ever experienced, and when updates come out, they come out first in Nordic places then in middle east country by country... giving every day more fuel to angry customers wondering when they will be lucky to get an update ... why can't there be one global update for all phones and different updates to phone carriers for each country. make it easier, it does not take a company purchase to do so.
    Announcements:
it was frustrating, just like it is right now, i still don't know when ARC S comes out. oh wait i am in the U.S. it comes out "WHENEVER" does it look like i am happy? i need a new phone, how SE expect me to purchase an ARC S when i don't know how long i am waiting for it and there is GALAXY and Iphones released in the markets hovering around me every day?
    USA, USA, CHINA, USA:
Why was the U.S. not a focus, please someone answer!
    Creativity:
androids are awesome operating systems, they are simply great and simply work every single time you use them. i believe, i gave SE so many ideas, non of them were integrated. to be able to distinguish your self from the rest of the pack; you need to be the alpha. simply having the most powerful phone is one factor, Xmore R is another, crazy led designs. look at the Tablet S, it's not the thinnest, it's not the cheapest, it's not the most powerful, yet it's unique in design. and for the market with the dull flat tablets, who ever designed it should design your new phones. the ARC design was AMAZING but lacked the items that are enough to give it a competitive edge in the market.
    Charging:
Why is it only micro USB is the main charger, Why can't it be that and another EASY WAY OF CHARGING, why do we have to wait tell apple go to conductive charging? SONY come up with two ways of charging, micro usb is great cause every one has either a BB or an android somewhere. but imagine just placing your phone on something without me connecting... I AM BUYING.
    Pricing:
SE charges an arm and a leg, when Galaxy Sii and iphone 4s are $200.00... do you not thing there is something wrong here?
    Accessories:
i have suggested times and times, make more accessories, lets compare phones covers for the Iphone and the Any SE phones... the amusing aspect is, why did not SE see what i see?
    Cool names PLEASE:
the ARC is a way to start after 10 years of naming products like fax machines... i need to see jina, president, awesome... less chemical equations of fax machine names. LT18a, imagine i tell my friends have you seen the LT18a or have you seen the Sony ARC?
there many many things i can bring to the table, question is, SONY are you going to do the same Mistakes? or am i going to changes? perhaps you need to hire me, so i can get somethings done. how open are you to changes? how open are you to listen to your customers and fans? how open are you to realize the completion and take actions to be ahead of the curve? how open are you to realize that the Video games on cell phones are only fun the first 5 minutes but after that iphone 4s is better?
LTE, Gorilla Glass, conductive charging, Unique design, unified phone, focus on 1 - 3 phones for the whole year, interactive customer service, New logo, Battery performance, UNIQUE DESIGN, top notch camera, waterproof, why dual when you can go Quad... go in to the market with a bang and bigger bang with it's prices. Start cranking AT&T and Tmobile, Verizon and Sprint from now in the U.S. chop chop you have work to do...
I wish you the best of luck SONY and hope to see interesting phones coming from your end.

  • Basic VT / Video Question

I am upgrading my CM to v4.2 this month and looking to do a limited implemenation of some video. I have read the basics on VT Advantage solution and had some questions I can't seem to find the answers to:
    1. Besides the obvious desktop software and hardware (camera) installation, what additonal configuration changes do I need to make to CM/Unity/gateways to get video working in the environment?
    2. What kind of additional load is now placed on the network with video and what will this do to my current bandwidth configurations?

    Michael,
First off you should check out the IP Video Telephony SRND if you are thinking about deploying video. Here is the link. (It's a 4.1 reference but should be 99% the same for 4.2).
    http://www.cisco.com/application/pdf/en/us/guest/netsol/ns268/c649/ccmigration_09186a00804ff6ba.pdf
Somewhat brief answers to your questions.
    1. QoS for video on all network devices. The above guide discusses this but the Enterprise QoS SRND is the best reference. Switched only VT advantage isn't that hard. If you have WAN links then the LLQs should be configured independantly for video and voice(still only one llq though but this will ease admin and give the ability to police the video). Call Manager locations can be created to help enforce Call Admission Control of video calls. Provisioning the bandwidth is going to be one of the harder things to configure.
ACLs will need to be adjusted for PC/Cam to Phone communication. The phone proxies the connection for the Camera and determines the camera via CDP (local on the phone switch) and then sets up a TCP connection traversing L2 vlans to L3 router and back. So if you have Phone acls they need to be adjusted. Again this is referenced in the above document.
Regions for video types. You have a few options on video quality. This response will also answer 2. You can choose Cisco wideband, 7mps each direction for the highest quality and low amount of system overhead on the pc cpu. Of course this takes up a total 14mb for video. Should only be used on local lan. Then you have increments of h263. They range from 128 up to 1536. The higher the bandwidth the better the quality and more cpu on the local pc. You will need to use regions to set the desired video codecs and locations to enforce the bandwidth the codecs require.
Lastly multipoint conferencing and other video endpoint integration. If you want conference with video you need to add MCUs. Currently (not sure on 4.2) CCM has a limitation on determining Video conference resources in an intelligent fashion. Essentially you need to have any video MCUs at the top of your MRGLs in CCM. This leaves the potential for Audio only conferences happening on very expensive video conference bridges. This calls for Device Pool and MRGL design changes for people who really only need multi-point video conferences.
    Read that SRND, great resource.

    Thanks

  • When I click on the icon in the dock, a message appears about not being able to verify google talk

I installed google talk as my main phone communications.  Something happened when I was using firefox that took out my whole chat system on firefox, chrome, and safari.  I am able to use it again on firefox after uninstalling and re-installing firefox.  I have not had luck getting it to work on Safari or chrome again.  When I click on the ichat icon in the dock, a message appears saying that Safari can not verify google talk.  Does anyone have a solution?

    Hi,
I take it you mean you installed the Intel Only Browser Plug-in to use the Chat Functions on the Google Mail Web Page in Video and Audio Chat ?
It now works in only one Browser which is Firefox.
The bit you post about using the iChat icon to launch iChat but get a message about Safari seems a bit odd.
iChat does not use Safari to check the password of Log In.
If you Click and hold the iChat icon in th DOCK and then select Show In Finder what app is then highlighted in the Applications folder ?
Have you tried deleting and reinstalling the Browser Plug-in ?
Also check the KeyChain and the Access Tab of the Google Talk info in there.
    KeyChain Access is in Applications/Utilities.
Find your Google Talk info and double Click it
The new panel has an Access Tab
That can be set to allow only certain apps to use the info (Password).

  • Does the "X" in XLTE stand for Extra Slow?

When XLTE was introduced they forgot to tell us the "X" was for extra slow.
Ever since the NEW and IMPROVED XLTE service has come out my performance has been cut in 1/2 or worse.  Before XLTE it averaged 6-8 down now it averages 2-4, Before XLTE it averaged 2-3 up now it averages 1+ up.
    1.  My tests before and after LTE all use the same server in the Chicago area.
    2.  The includes multiple locations.  Even the performance next to a tower has decreased 50%.
    3.  This is using 100's of tests on OOKLA since October 2013
To dismiss it is a device issue I was everywhere from Clymer, PA to Pittsburg, PA this last week and the phone speed tests were great it averaged 15-20 down and 8-10 up.  **These also used the same TEST server in Chicago and it is farther away from PA.
    IPHONE 5S

XLTE is just rebranding LTE. It's a marketing gimmick.

  • Diffuclty accessing fobs4jmf package from tomkat

Hi, i have included the fobs4jmf into the environment variables and my Jcreator and i can acccess the package to read other video file types when running my application locally. However when i run my application within my tomkat server i can't access the fobs4jmf pacjkage anymore. I have also tried including the fobs4jmf.jar into the lib folder of my workfolder within the webapps of tomkat but still it can't read the package. Is there somewhere else i need to include the package? What am I missing?
I'm using tomkat server 5.5,fobs4jmf api, vid2jpg sourcecode, modified to read an asf file, Jcreator 3.5. and my application accesing the server is Cisco Ip Phone communicator Emulator.

One of the first things I would try is a brute force putting everything in the same folder, from the list fobs4jmf.jar, fobs4jmf.dll, the jmf.properties & jmf.jar that come with fobs. I would also set the respective path eg java -classpath .;fobs4jmf.jar vid2jpg "file:test.mov"

  • ORA-36836 about cube dimensionality ???

    Hi there,
I've been trying lately to use AWM to build an OLAP cube based on some sample data I have related to phone communications. Up to now I've been able although painfuly to build four dimensions (date/time, a-number, b-number, exit cause) and a cube with measures "number of calls" and "total call duration". Currently everything seems to load correctly (dimensions and cube), however when I try to view the cube data I get the following message :
ORA-36836: The dimensionality of object OLAP.TRAFFIC is different than the view token
This doesn't make any sense to me, and I've not been able to find any explanation on the web, except for those two lines :
Cause: The dimensionality of the cube does not match the view token
Action: Check view token for unrelated hierarchies clauses
Well the remedy looks even worse than the disease, since this is even less understandable than the former.
Does anyone has a clue about what might be wrong here, or what to do to go forward ?
I'm using the free Oracle 11g on CentOS, I guess this must be the XE edition, and AWM was part of Oracle Client on Windows XP. This piece of software seems to be riddle with bugs, data not updating properly after changes, objects only partly deleted after a delete command, lots of "uncommitable" and java exceptions of all kinds... I've had several times to totally delete the whole aw and restart from scratch because AWM would not finish deleting some dimension of attribute. A real pain in the neck. Is this related to the fact that I'm using a free version and don't have access to patches ? Well I really wonder how can anyone do some serious development with this tool. Or am I missing something ?
    Thanks for your help,
    Christian

    Hi again Stuart and all,
I'm back after some patching... :-) I've applied the following patches to my installation :
On the server side patches 7375639 (Oracle Critical Patch Update October 2008) and 6992921 (OLAP B PATCH FOR 11.1.0.6).
On the client side I've upgraded to AWM 11.1.0.7.0A
And ... tadadam ... I still have the same error message after recreating the whole workspace from scratch :-(
Here is a transcript of the error message I get :
    [edit many similar lines]

I'm able to display the dimension views and the cube view and they "look" ok, but I get this error when I right-click to "View data <MY CUBE>..." or "View data <ONE OF THE MEASURES>..."
So it looks like there's something in the way my data is wrapped up that really bothers the Oracle OLAP engine. What I'm trying to do is to migrate a cube that works on Mondrian to Oracle OLAP, so it means the problem is probably related to some specific requirement that the Oracle OLAP engine imposes on the way the data is presented.
In any case the error messages are totally meaningless to me. Does anyone has an idea what the "view token" is ?
Thanks a lot for your help,

  • Dear Verizon: $2.00 "Convenience" Fee - Give Me a Break!

    Dear Verizon,
I would like to first thank you for all your services over the last 8 or so years. You have been nothing but a reliable service and in times of complete dissatisfaction your customer service has been nothing but extremely helpful.
I have stumbled across several articles bringing to my attention your $2.00 "convenience" fee. Verizon believes this will reduce their fees for chasing customers who don't pay on time. As a die-hard customer and strong supporter of Verizon for the last 8 years, I have always paid my bill online via credit card. Because of the lack of responsibility held by a minority of your customers Verizon feels the need to punish their entire customer base. Sure you say there are "free" alternatives to pay like in-store payments and snail mail, but then where is my "convenience" discount to use these payment options?
I'm filled with much sadness to watch a company that I've stood by for so long to make such a poor decision. When Verizon first screwed it's customers by removing the $100 cash advance for the "New Every 2" and only giving $50, I still stood by you. When the whole phone community went from "dumb phones" to "smart phones" and everyone forced their customers to pay more money for data plans, I still decided to stay with Verizon. When Verizon decided to remove unlimited data and charge a higher fee for their data rates than their competitors guess who still stood by your side? This guy. And when Verizon failed to bundle data packages into family plans again who stayed with Verizon? Me. With this latest move I can't even begin to justify this undeniably greedy money grab labeled as a "convenience" fee to pay my bill. As soon as the last 2-year contract expires in my family plan I will be jumping ship and taking every last soul I can possibly convince to leave Verizon. Do the CEOs of Verizon not follow current events? Take a look at Bank of Americas attempt for "convenience" fees. Wake up Verizon, the whole world is watching.
    Sincerely,
    Andrew Welsh

Weth handeled one aspect of your question, I'll address the "refurbished" section.
When your phone (software or hardware) "breaks", you have 2 choices to get your phone replaced. Speak with the manufacturer or the cellular provider. The difference is that the provider can send you out a phone and give you time to send in the old one so you dont have to be without your phone for too long. Yes, you will get a "refurbished" phone of the same make and model IF the provider has any of them in stock. There is no alternate or substitute available. (This is part of the agreement that your cellular provider has with the MANUFACTURE)
If you go through the manufacture for a warranty issue, and they replace the device, you sill still get a refurbished device of the same make and model. (you have to send your phone in first)
Remember, Verizon, AT&T, SPRINT, T-Mobile are all CELLULAR CARRIERS and do not make the phones or the operating systems that are in the phones.

  • Odd Menu behavior from 7940

I'm developing an XML service to allow users to set wake-up calls, and I'm seeing some weird behavior from my 7940. The phone gets up to the second screen in the application, a PhoneMenu, and then when I try to select one of the two MenuItems, it gets the appropriate URL from the webserver, but still displays the old page, and then if I try to select a MenuItem again, it doesn't go back to the webserver.
I've attached the XML for the two screens; the first one is ampm.xml and the second one is message.xml.

If you obtained it from Cisco Developer Support, isn't it for version 3.3.4? Are you sure you have the 4.0 version?
Nothing significant has changed between versions (that I am aware of). The newer version includes tags to support the model 7970 IP Phone/Communicator, and the old version had minimum values for some tags which have been removed for the most part in the new schema.

  • My system IS NOT currently up to date!!

BY THE TIME WE ALL GET THE 2.2 ON THE DI. WE WILL ALL BE SCRAMBLING FOR GINGERBREAD.

3.0 aka gingerbread will more than likely be geared toward newer phones. They say released by the 1st of the year, and well we know how long it takes HTC and Moto to update... that puts this phone at almost a year old. Ancient in the fast paced phone world. I love this little guy but I'm too geeky to sit back and watch the phone community run me over. When gingerbread hits, its upgrade time for this guy!
Like an LTE phone with a duel processor! Rumors rumors rumors for spring!
