2 Pop Accounts - getting duplicates in my inbox?

Hey everyone. I'm really hoping you can help me with this...
I have 2 POP accounts setup on my Mac Mail app. If I receive am email to account #1, a duplicate is sent to my #2 account.
They're completely different POP accounts....
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Zack,
Are these two accounts on different POP3 mail servers, or the same one?
Do you have any Rules written, and active?

  • Getting Duplicate Emails in Inbox on POP account

OK, I've suddenly started getting duplicates every time Mail checks my mail server.
I remedied this about a week ago by changing the settings to "delete mail immediately" but that renders my Blackberry pretty much useless for this account. So, afte rI turned it back to "after one day" the problem went away.
    NOw, it's back again.
Any suggestions as to the cause and how to stop it.
I'm a fairly savvy programmer and have no fear of the command line or editing

Sorry for the late reply. I've got the latest version of the OS X and mail (10.5.7 and 3.6). The account has been many places -- it was on my old G4 that had Tiger, then I got an aluminum Intel Core 2 Extreme iMac with Leopard and migrated everything over from the old system; then Apple had to replace my iMac three times because of power issues. Actually, it originated long before my G4 with Tiger. I've used this account forever. The problem, however, just cropped up spontaneously a few weeks ago, with no changes on my end. Thanks for anything you can suggest!

  • Mysterious triangle left ot POP account name, emails missing in Inbox

I got a problem with the Mail inbox of a POP account. There is a number, that shows the count of unread emails, however the pane that displays the list of emails is blank. However to the left of th account name is a triangle, as if there were folders underneath it. Clicking it changes only its direction however there are no additional folders and the pane to the right remains blank.
The new incoming emails are correctly retrieved from the POP server, I can find them in the Finder (~/Library/Mail/(account name)/INBOX.mbox/messages) and I can click each of them in Mail. Why are they not shown in the list of messages in Mail?
However the indicated number of unread messages is much larger than the number of emails I can find in INBOX.mbox. I know the missing messages are somewhere on my harddisk but I can not find them anymore!
I have already rebuilt my mailboxes by deleting the Envelope Index file, however the "hidden" emails did not re-appear and the mysterious triangle appeared again!
How can I get rid of the mysterious triangle, make the mails in the INbox again visible and how can I find the missing messages indicated in the counter?

I am using the Backup application of Mac (version for Tiger) and I am regularly backing up the whole user.
I think, I will now proceed as follows:
    1) Make a clone of my HD to my external drive (what program do you recommend for this, in order that there is no risk for overwriting?)
    2) Migrate the user to the iMac of my friend, using Migration Assistant
3a) If this brings back my lost email, I would get a new HD and Tiger installed on my Powerbook and move the user back
3b) If the migration does not solve the problem, I would try to repair the way you proposed before and migrate the user to Leopard after the repair.
I have forwarded my email now to another account and for this reason I do not have to hurry. I prefer to take my time, in order not to loose my missing emails.
Do you agree with the way forward I have sketched above?

  • Mobile me account getting duplicate emails

  • My email on my exchange account gets deleted from my inbox

I have random emails that show up in my inbox and then get sent to my deleted folder automatically. Does anyone know what is casusing this and what the solution to fix it. Recently I have deleted the exchange account and reinstalled to see if that would help. This started happening after the latest upgrade. I'm using a iphone 4S

Just to clearify the emails are not yahoo or gmail. Most are from inside my company but some out side as well.

  • Mail downloaded from POP account in Gmail appears in Sent mail

I have configured Gmail to download mail from two other POP accounts. I use Mail.app in OS X with IMAP to access my Gmail. I've noticed that when I receive a message from one of my POP accounts, it appears in my inbox but also as an unread message in my Sent mail folder. Why? Is there anything I can do to change this behavior?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The Gmail account is set-up as IMAP. But it does download POP email from other accounts. It's a nice feature and one of the main reasons I just use Gmail now for all email.
I know I could just ignore the issue, but it bothers me to have unread messages in the Sent mailbox. Clutters up the interface.

  • Missing messages from POP account

    Greetings.
All the mesages from my POP account folders are missing/invisible (Inbox, Sent, Trash). The messages exist in the ~/Library/Mail folder, and at the top of the Mail application window states "Inbox (0 messages, 50 unread)".
I've tried all the fixes that David Gimeno Gost has suggested in this forum to other users experiencing similar problems, (e.g., rebuilding the index, reimporting the mailboxes, converting to from elmx mbox and importing, reinstalling the Mail application) all to no avail.
    Any advice much appreciated.
    David

    Hello David.
Some of the "fixes" you seem to have already tried might or might not be appropriate for your problem, and it could very well be that you've made things worse. In particular, what did you do to reinstall Mail? I rarely recommend doing that. Did you also reinstall the Combo Update afterwards?
Verify/repair your disk first (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Now, in the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. With that folder open, do Edit > Select All (⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it in your reply to this post, to let me see the names of the files and folders present at the root level of the Mail folder.
Before actually posting that information, you may edit it so that the file/folder names do not reveal any details you wish to keep private, e.g. you may replace any real username with "username" if you wish; similarly, you may disguise any domain names you don't want to be revealed. Try to be consistent in how you disguise those details, though, as we may need to refer to them in subsequent posts.
Finally, locate the account folders within ~/Library/Mail/ -- their name begins with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server. For each account folder, repeat the process to let me see the names of the files and folders it contains.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

  • How can I get my POP account showing in the inbox it's supposed to show in?

Hi-Until a couple of weeks ago all mail received from my IMAP and POP accounts would show up in the correct mailboxes in my Mail inbox list. (Only problem then was that sent mail would never show up in the sent mail folder--always stayed in the inbox.)
Now a new problem has happened----unless I go directly to my charter cable account (P0P account) to retrieve any mail sent to that particular address, the mail goes unnoticed by Mail on my MAC and nothing shows up in the inbox. But--- If I do a test to myself , sending an email to the POP address from my IMAP account from my MAcMAil, my IMAP account will show the email in the inbox of the IMAP account I sent it from as if I'd mailed it to that account. How can I get my POP account showing in the Inbox? And, any suggestions for a fix to getting the "sent" mail to show in the "sent" folder would also be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • I cannot delete mail from my inbox and get a message saying (msg) could not be moved to the mailbox trash-POP account".

I suddenly cannot delete mail from my inbox and get a message saying " (msg) could not be moved to the mailbox trash-POP account".  It does not matter if I am trying to delete a single message or mulitiple messages.  Can anyone help?

If you're running Leopard, as your profile says, then you need to post your question in that forum, not the Snow Leopard forums. So if you're really running Snow Leopard, you need to update your profile to show that, as well as give more details about what kind of mail accounts you have, and who your email provider is.

Tell them to use "Plain Text" when sending you the email, not RTF. Or, get this:

Mail/Preferences/Account/ Remove copy from server. You must do this for each account.

  • How to get rid of junk mail in POP account

    Dear all,
I have a POP account which on my iMac/Macbook Pro perfectly weeds out almost all junk/spam. On my iPhone 4 however there is no junk mailbox so all junk goes in my Inbox with a ratio of 60 junk : 1 real mail message. Anyone?
Really looking forward to some briljant tips!
    Cheers,
    Michiel

With an email account/address that is so severly compromised, you may want to consider a new email account and address preferably an IMAP account for a number of reasons.
A 60 junk to one real email message ratio means you have inadvertently contributed to the problem and the email account provider has no spam filter at the server. Rendering any HTML included with spam/junk confirms that your email address is "known good" with the spammer that sent the message causing more spam/junk to be received. Clicking on any links included with a spam/junk message does the same. Providing your email address publicly for any reason also does the same. Spammers sell/trade their "known good" email address lists to other low-life spammers causing an endless cycle. Once the cat is that far out of the bag with an email address, there is no turning back. The iPhone's Mail app does not have a junk mail filter and may never have one, which wouldn't match the junk mail filter with the Mail app on your Mac anyway.
Get a new email address from an email account provider that supports IMAP access. Use the new email address to exchange email with family and friends ONLY. Use your existing severely compromised email address for online purchases and to be provided publicly. Never provide your new email address publicly for any reason. An IMAP account is specifically designed to be accessed with more than one email client with all server stored mailboxes kept synchronized with the server with each email client used to access the account. A POP account is from the early dark ages of email account access with an email client when most people had access to a single computer only and well before there were handheld cell phones and especially smart phones. A POP account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only.

  • Mail hang when getting email from multiple POP accounts

    I'm posting this issue again.
Mail hangs while getting new mail from multiple POP accounts almost every time. When it does, only Force Quit can quit it.
The following DID NOT fix the hang:
    - Reconstructing all mail boxes
    - Exporting, deleting and reimporting all mail boxes
    - Disabling all rules
    - Deleting anti-spam history
    - Deleting all emails from all mail boxes
Testing each POP account individually while putty the other two offline works fine.
I also noticed that sometimes the new mail counter in Inbox displays 2-4 new messages while there is no new ones. Switching boxes/folders and back to Inbox fixes it.
    The POP accounts are:
    One plain text POP
    One secure POP
    One GMail POP
    Can anyone help?

    You’re welcome.
I did try to clear the junk mail preferences
The Junk Mail preferences cannot be “cleared”. What do you mean?
it crashes almost every single time.
It doesn’t crash (i.e. quit unexpectedly). It freezes (i.e. becomes unresponsive), right?
I transfered my data to a Mac Mini. I had the same exact problem on it too!
so it seems it has nothing to do with the OS plugins or the setup I have.
Well, that would depend on what exactly does “I transfered my data” mean...
Try first disabling all the rules in Preferences > Rules AND the junk filter in Preferences > Junk Mail. If the problem persists, proceed as follows.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
    4. Move any “IMAP-”, “Mac-”, or “Exchange-” account folders to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. DON’T trash any “POP-” account folders, as that would cause all the mail stored there to be lost.
    5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    6. As a side effect of having removed the IMAP account folders, those accounts may be in an “offline” state now. Do Mailbox > Go Online to bring them back online.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • Remove copy from server 'when moved from inbox' option for POP accounts

Is this option supposed to work in all cases? (or could it be buggy?:-)
I can't get it to work with my POP account: messages are still left on the POP server, even after when they are moved from the inbox to another local mailbox on my Mac...
Manual selective removal of messages from the server does work (thru the 'Get info' window of the 'Gear' menu at bottom of Mailboxes pane), so this does seem to be a problem with the POP server.
Or do I by any chance misinterpret the meaning of this option?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Mail version 2.1 (752/752.2)

You've interpreted correctly how it should work, as long as you take the following considerations into account:
    1. Messages aren't supposed to be removed from the server immediately, but rather the next time Mail connects to the POP server.
    2. It may have no effect on messages that had already been downloaded prior to you choosing that option.
And, yes, it sometimes doesn't work as expected. It could be buggy or Mail might have problems communicating with the server.
