2 Problems - Screen Remains Black & Disk Won't Eject

The other day the machine turned on, but the display remained dark. I played with the F2 & F1 keys without success, then I inserted an OS disk into the slot, turned it off, turned it back on and help down the 'C' key.
Nothing. Then I pressed the F12 key.
Nothing. Then I turned off the mac, and restarted, holding down the trackpad.
Nothing.
So now I have a machine that is obviously turned on, but displays nothing, and refuses to eject the OS disk.

OK, you have a slower version of the machine I have, and I have also replied to your other post with some further questions. The clock battery is a lithium-ion rechargeable battery, which has an indeterminate life-span, I guess. I just replaced mine after having the machine for 7.5 years as it was finally failing to hold a charge.
To fully charge a replacement battery, you need to take the main battery out and leave it overnight on the charger, otherwise it might be a week or more before it charges with the main battery in.
BTW, how is the condition of the main battery? How many green LEDs illuminate when you push the test button on the battery? It should be all of them for a fully charged battery. Finally, another weakness has been the charger, though Apple did make the wiring a little more robust over time. You should have either a green or orange "ring" of light around the connector at the back of the powerbook when the power adapter is supplying power to the computer. Orange when it is charging and green when the battery is charged.

  • MacBook Pro 2008 not turning on, no sign of power and screen remains black

    I have a MacBook Pro 2008.
It was working fine until when one morning i wanted to turn it on as usual only to find out that it can not power on.
When i press the power-on button, i can hear the hard disk spinning but no display, the screen remains black like not getting power.
No beep sound when tried to boot without RAM installed.
The battery and the Charger worked fine when tested with another computer.
The RAM works fine when tested with another Computer too.
What could be wrong with my computer, i hope it is not the board that is dead.
How can i overcome this problem?

    Op Charles,
You can try a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Follow directions for a battery that applies to your machine.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1365
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1367
You can check these as well
It sounds as thogh the the GPU may be dead, you can take it in to an Apple Genius (make an appointment) they will disgnose it for free and give you your options.
    Good Luck

  • Screen remaining black at startup

When starting up my Satellite S55 I can hear the drive running, but sometimes screen remains black. Sometimes it will not shut down if I press the on/off switch or close the lid. Just keeps running with a black screen. I usually leave my laptop plugged in. This computer was purchased in Jan of 2014 and has not been used a lot. Why does this happen frequently?

    Or buy a retail disk ($29 U.S.)
I have the installation disk from my MBP mid-2010.
The gray discs are specific to the model and build period of the Mac they came with;  they won't work on another Mac.
Apple changed the firewire plug from the one machine to the other
You can get a small adapter, or a cable with different plugs at each end.  Just so you know what the adapter looks like:  http://www.amazon.com/CABLES-FIREWIRE-6-PIN-FEMALE-4-PIN/dp/B000ENY90A

  • IMac G5 isight not booting, screen remains black & fans start

    Hello,
The iMac in question is a 2.1 G5 20" screen with iSight. It has worked perfectly with no problems up until recently, now when I go to switch on the chime sounds, the screen remains black and after about a minute the fans startup.
I have attempted to reset the SMU and PRAM to no avail.
I did manage (after several attempts) to boot into Target Mode with another mac connected by Firewire. The hard drive shows up and all the files seem to be there. I scanned the drive with TectTool Pro and repaired permissions, I also used Disk Warrior to rebuild the drive. Still the problem persists.
Tried to boot from CD but so far this has been unsuccessfull.
I have read of people having similar problems but have yet to find a working solution but I'm hoping there is one out there as the iMac was working wonderfully right up until this problem!
    Thanks in advance

It sounds as if your power supply is failingand/or your logic board.  I think it's time to take it in and have it looked at.  But before you do that, try running the Apple Hardware Test, on your install disc.

  • HT201412 My ipad screen remains black and show a persistent apple logo.

My ipad screen remains black and show a persistent apple logo. Sometimes it turn on and off automatically every 5minutes. I have already restored iOS software for 3 or 4 times. I have also seen with the apple genius supporter. The problem still remain the same. Does anybody have any suggestion beyond that? I dont know how many people are experiencing the same problems. Why dont apple solve this issue seriously? My rating to apple would become dramatically decreased to zero. I have decided not to buy apple product anymore.

We are not Apple here .. you should bring your concerns to their attention.

  • IMac 24 inch screen remains black

    Hi,
iMac starts up in normal way but screen remains black. When I do Screen Sharing from my MacBook Pro I see there's nothing wrong with the iMac ... on my MacBook Pro the normal screen from my iMac is shown.
    Please some help?
    Many thanks,
    Johan

    Hi guys,
got the same problem. I've even talked to apple's 2nd level support about it.
made pictures for them and so on. Now the important questions!!!
Are you guys smokers ? I bet you are
Apple's 2nd level support told me that this is caused by smoking infront of the imac.
And their solution to this problem (at least here in germany) is to get it cleaned and tell you to stop smoking in front of it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because there are not enough complains about this problem from customers !!
    I'm soooo **** !
Please everyone let apple know (call them) that this is a big big problem and they should redesign the iMac's (if it is a design flaw).Or give everyone that has this problem a new one, that doesn't have this problem.

  • Macbook Pro suddenly shuts off. screen goes black and won't turn off till after a few hours.

    Hi everyone!
So I've had this problem from my macbook since months ago. It sometimes just shuts off by itself, the screen turning black and won't turn on until like after a few hours (sometimes a day, but sometimes you could also immediately open it just like that.)
When it shuts off and you plug the adapter it is still charging, the lights on the side of the macbook book still lights up just fine if you press the button on the side. the only problem is that it wont open until after a few minutes, hours or days (very unpredictable) (also tapping the macbook helps, I dont know if it "really" helps or not, but it works sometimes.) But when it open it will be working fine until another couple of weeks or 3 or a month (again unpredictable)
I dont know what's wrong with my laptop, please help me. It would be greatly appreciated! thank you so much in advance!

Hold the power button down for 10+ seconds.  Then bring the MBP to an Apple store for an evaluation.
    Ciao.

My iphone died & I plugged it back in to charge when it powered on the screen remained black.  I can hear when I receive a text and siri.  I have tried holding down the sleep and home button and restoring in itunes neither worked.  The screen on the phone is cracked but has been working fine until now.  Please help!!!

Here's how to perform the restore:
    HT1414
If you can actually get to restore, maybe (I estimate a 0.01% chance) you'll be able to do a backup before the restore.  Actually, from the symptoms you describe, I suspect a restore won't work either and you'll need to do a recovery.
Just in case, if you need to recover (restore fails), here's how.  Note you may have to try to get into recovery mode more than once.

  • Laptop screen remains black (off) when I turn on the computer

    Hello,
Today I came home and turned on my laptop as usual except this time the screen remained black. I can hear the fan running and then the usual windows chime at start up, but nothing to view. The HP logo at the back still lights up though. Just the actual screen remains completely black like it is off. I tried connecting it to my tv via HDMI and to an external monitor but there's no signal. I also tried doing a hard reset which I read about here but that did nothing.  I feel as though it's just the monitor won't turn on but everything else might be fine.

Now that you mentioned it, that might be the source of the problem. Something was definitely wrong with my graphics card before the incident happened. You mean that particular batch of graphics cards had some inherent issues, right? I went to the genius bar, and the 'genius' there, without trying to diagnose the problem properly, just adviced me to buy a new mbp! He said Apple will no longer try to fix or touch macs older than 5 yrs. Mine is 5.5 yrs old...
