2-prong power outlet?

I've recently arrived in the US, and have brought my UK-purchased Mac Pro with me. Where I'm living there are only 2-prong power outlets where I want to plug in my Mac, and I was wondering if it is safe (for me!) and reliable (for the Mac!) to use them.
There aren't even any convenient 3-prong outlets nearby that I can run an extension from, so the only other option would be to get the landlord to rewire...
Dan.

Hi DisparateDan;
The third prong is ground and it is important that you ground your Mac.
I once lived in a house that didn't have grounded plugs installed. I removed the cover and that there was an unattached green wire coming out of the cable in the box. I tested the wire and found that it was grounded. So I replaced the two prong fixture with a three prong fixture connecting a green wire from the box to the third prong of the plug.

  • Airport Express Two Prong Power Adapter

Can the two prong power module be replaced with an extension cord from an Apple PowerBook AC Power Adapter? I'm thinking that there may be a situation where I would like to relocate the Airport Express away from the AC outlet, and perhaps closer to an ethernet port in a hotel room.
Anyone actually do this? I don't want to fry the Airport Express, and i don't want to lug around an regular AC power extension cord.

    Henry,
Can you tell me if the reverse is true? Would the AC extension cord sold along with the AirPort Express stereo cables package -- in the UK store, at least -- be properly rated to work with the iBook AC power adapter? It looks like the piece of equipment I need, but I can't find anything in the tech specs to reassure me that it would work safely on my power adapter.
Context for my question: I have moved from the US to the UK and want very badly to get an AC power cord with a UK plug to replace the one with the US plug. (I have the snap-on UK plug, but want the cord so I can sit farther from the wall.) It would cost 55 GBP to buy an "extra portable power adapter" (the whole unit, including the snap-on cord I want); by contrast, it would cost only 29 GBP to buy the "AirPort Express Stereo Connection Kit with Monster Cables," which includes "an AirPort Express power extension cord." I might actually use the AirPort Express stereo connectors if I had them, but I have no use for an extra AC adapter (and I hope not to need one!).

  • Network Cable Unplugged when chaning power outlet

Im on a T60 running XP version 2.10.  When I connect to AC power when switching from one power outlet to another power outlet I get "Network Cable Unplugged." It disconnects and connects back to the network.  This wouldnt be a big deal but when it happens my VPN connection gets dropped.  I have to manually reconnect.  Not a big deal but it shouldnt happen.
Any solutions or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • IPod Shuffle 2nd Gen, blinks 3 times and stops (Only connected to power outlet))

Its a iPod Shuffle 2nd generation of 1GB. When I connect it to a power outlet via Apple's USB Adapter, it blinks 3 times and then it stops until I reconnect it again (reconnecting leads to the same thing). When I turn it on, it functions normally. I haven't used it in a long time ago, but I connected it a long time to iTunes to pass songs and when I turn it on it'
When I connect it to iTunes, it's the same, but iTunes recognizes it as a non-problem iPod. It even charges connected to iTunes (but it only blinks 3 times after connecting it and it's over, but keeps connected)
I think it even charges with iTunes, i can copy songs and everything. But I don't want to be stuck at a computer every time i need to charge

  • How can I reset my iPod Touch with no power at all? It doesn't charge with the power outlet or with the USB cable...

I realized this morning my iPod Touch was not charging. I left it charging all night but nothing.
I read i have to reset it, but since now is fully uncharged, it does not allow me to do anything...
I tried to charge it with all possible resources (USB, different chords, power outlet, etc) but still out.
Should I take it to a Genius Bar?

    I would try here first.

The power supply is shot. But that it lasted even this long is the wonder.. not that it died.
    The TC runs too hot..
Look on ebay for "Time Capsule power supply"
You can get a replacement and fix it although the economics are not so good.. it is probably time for a new TC.
If you can DIY it is really only a few dollars worth of capacitors that go bad.

  • IPod only works in iHome docking station - nothing else (USB, power outlet, other docking stations)

This just started last week after I'd loaded some songs to my iPod from my laptop and it wouldn't play or display anything.
My iPod Classic only works when connected to iHome docking station and then it seems to work fine. It won't work when connected to another docking station, to laptop through USB or to power outlet. I restored while it was on iHome docking station but that didn't seem to correct anything. When I've tried to restore off the iHome, the screen flickers endlessly and nothing appears.
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Long live the Classic! (Hopefully)

    hi all ,
since 12 days i brought my macbook pro mc700 unibody , problem i've noticed that while i'm touching the laptop  on the edge while the magsafe green and fully charged a static shock for me and for whom else touch it , i'm using my 3 prong power cord and the same thing in diffrent location , home, office and in dealer branch , that's my first time using macbook moving from windows and i'm shocked from first impression regarding MBP.

i went to the dealer in our country and tried the macbook but still the same shocked me and the tech. there ,when i tried to change the magsafe with spare one there it's works without any problem and without electric shock ,i'm thinking about changing the magsafe OR to buy the moshi sticker someone told me it's prevent the static electric shock.

My iPhone charges normally trought power outlet, But it won't charge or recognize trough USB connection on my MacBook, even in restore or DFU mode.
Please help me! I'm stuck on restore mode.

I tried on 3 different MacBooks, it doesn't work.
I have some updates though... It is recognized on my car sound system, and It is working fine when connected to a windows PC, I was able to normally activate it... so the problem is not on the connector, Macs just don't recognize it.
    Anyone ?

  • After shutting down MacBook Pro, it will only turn on after changing power outlets

The last few times i have manually shut down my macbook, and attempted to turn it back on several hours later, it wont turn on again. The battery level is fine, I've tried with and without battery connection, and I have reset the PRAM and SMC on the keyboard, but it still wont turn on.
    SOLUTION:
The only way it WILL turn on is if I change the charger and move it onto to another powerboard.
It can't be the power outlet as both say that the computer is charging.
It also can't be the power outlet as this has happened at home as well as at uni.
Any ideas why it might be doing this and what I can do about it (other than never turning it off) would be helpful.
The rest of the computer runs fine.

I tried those already, did not work.
I did how ever remove the command key and wiped it down and it turns on perfectly!
but now the keyboard keys seem to be out of place or something. For example it makes a "ping" sound when i hit some of them, when i hit function or control it puts the letter Z.
    Any input would be great!

  • Macbook pro, frame is bent next to power outlet.  How should I fix it?

The frame around the power outlet is bent.  It still charges.  Should I try to straighten it out?

Without significant disassembly you cannot get it back to 'as new' condition.  You can though improve it where the case meets the keyboard.  To do this successfully you need good to superior mechanical skills ie. and intuitive understanding when you have bent aluminum enough without cracking it.  If not, do as suggested by others , leave well enough alone.
The keyboard will have to be removed.  If you go to the OWC website and look for HDD installation videos for your MBP, it will be the same process.  You need will need a 00 Phillips head screw driver and maybe a # 6 Torx driver.
Once the keyboard is off you will need a couple pieces of thin but stiff oak or perhaps plastic that will not mar the aluminum.  (I suspect they should be about 1.5" long)  These may have to be modified to fit the case, both inside and out as the situation requires.
You will need vise grips. (you can also use a small C clamp)   Position a piece of oak inside the case and a piece outside the case.  Take the vise grips and adjust them so that they just start to compress the oak against the aluminum case.  Keep tightening the vise grips until the aluminum case is straight.
When you release the vise grips there will probably occur a slight bend.  Take one of the oak pieces and whittle or plane a convex surface.   Place that convex surface where the bend is protruding (probably on the inside based on the pictures)  and put the strait piece on the out side and again use the vise grips to flatten the bend.
If it is not straight enough to your satisfaction, create a slightly concave surface on the outside piece. What you want to do is to bend it just far enough where it will become straight when you release it.  Therefore do this process in small increments.   If you over do it you are likely to create a bend the other way.
Aluminum is readily subject to metal fatigue so you cannot keep going in and out.  You essentially have one shot at doing this.
    Ciao.

  • Where can I get the spliced power outlet to use with power measurement system

Could someone tell me where I can get the spliced power outlet so I can measure the current directly without using current sensor/transformer?

  • ITunes detects iPhone over WiFi only when it's NOT connected to a power outlet

iTunes detects my iPhone over WiFi only if it's NOT connected to a power outlet, so if I try to sync it fails.

    Hi there argelle1!
I believe you will want to restore this iPod in order to resolve this issue, but there are some other troubleshooting steps you can try before that as well. Those steps can be found in this website:
iPod nano (6th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3474
Specifically, this is the section that refers to your issue:
Will not turn on or screen remains dark
Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting the device while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button for at least eight seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.
If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.
Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

    Braden
