2 Questions: Black when exporting & highlighted menu items

Newbie here, learning as I go with some very basic knowledge.
Mac OSX 5.8
InD CS 4
Okay, got two questions.  My books aren't answering them, my live-help person is busy (InD professional) ... I'm coming here for help.
1.  Seems as tho when I draw a 10pt black line, after exporting to .pdf, it is screened.  I haven't changed any settings and if something got changed .. I'm clueless.  No transparencies, 100% opacity, 100% black. If I print directly from .indd, it is black.  Definitely screened when printed out .pdf, and my printing company is the one who noticed it.
2.  While I was messing around trying to figure out the black line, all of a sudden, a bunch of my menu pull-down items became highlighted.  Again, I'm clueless.
Thanks so much for putting up with a novice.

In Preferences, what is your selection for Appearance of Black? I suggest “Display All Blacks Accurately” and “Output All Blacks Accurately”. I don’t understand Adobe setting these to, effectively, “Display All Blacks Inaccurately” and “Output All Blacks Inaccurately” by default.
You say that the black line is grey, but is it? Can you open it in Acrobat Pro or Illustrator and tell us the actual colour value? I suspect you have the preferences above set to the default, so that process black looks and prints like a rich black. When Acrobat shows it as process black, it appears lighter by comparison.
A new feature in InDesign since version 5 is “Workspaces” which save panel visibility and position and allow some menu items to be hidden and others to be highlighted. I find the menu options distracting an non-intuitive. When you hide a function from the user you don’t make other functions easier to see, you just make those hidden functions unavailable and, for new users, undiscoverable. Similarly, highlighted items are just distracting. You can fix both problems by selecting Window > Workspace > Show Full Menus.

  • Question about The SQL*Plus menu item

    The help doc says we can use SQL*Plus commands. So I open it from the SQL*Plus menu item under Tools. After I gave the installed SQL*Plus location and file name, SQL*Plus was opened by itself asking for a password. The question is are all SQL*Plus commands are supported/will be supported in Raptor? Thanks.

  • Question: How do you remove Menu Items from showing up in LC

    Hello everyone:
    If someone can please point me in the right direction in how to convert app.hideMenuItem("Toolbars"); to the XFA SOM?
    I am creating the form using Adobe Distiller from an access report.  I change the Interface Options in Acrobat to hide file and toolbar menus, but when I convert it to LC, the options are removed.
    I also scripted app.hideMenuItem("Toolbars"); in the Page.Open event using Acrobat and when I convert to LC the code does nothing at the subPage1.Initialize event.  Not even when I reopen the converted form in Acrobat does the script run...
    What is the best method of hidding menu items using LC Designer?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time,

    Ivan,
    Here is what liitle I know on this topic.
    The attached doc was created when Designer 7 was released and it has a table of the Acrobat JavaScript APIs and there equivalents, if any, in Designer. According to that doc, app.hideMenuItem() is supported in Designer and there is no Designer JavaScript equivalent.
    My brief look at this matter leads me to believe security constraints since Reader 6.0 have changed the rules.
    I recommend you take a look at trusted functions and context in the Acrobat 9 SDK.

  • How do I prevent errors when accessing DDL menu items in NI Configurator?

    I am developing a DD description for a Foundation Fieldbus device. I have put menus in the DD to help present the data in my transducer blocks in an organized manner. When I access a menu item with NI Configurator 3.0, I get an error message "Network read of parameter name failed: error code -27" (See attachment). This happens for all the variables on my menus. The same variables are read correctly within the block views.
    Are there any specific requirements of menus, or unsupported DDL constructs that can not be used within DDL menu items when using NI Configurator? I have tried the Menus on other fieldbus host systems and they appear to work OK there.

    Are you calling "Edit Display" in your DD menu? As I know, the Configurator 3.1 version can handle "Edit Display" properly. I suggest you send your DD and CFF files to "[email protected]" for further technical support from NI.
    On the other hand, you might be able to download the Configurator 3.1 Evaluation version from "http://www.ni.com/support/fbussupp", which supports creating virtual devices/blocks with CFF and DD files. You can try on that and see whether it helps in 3.1 version.

  • Heavy slowdowns when hovering over menu items (v12.1)

    I experience heavy slowdowns and increased CPU usage of mutliple background processes (Chrome, Task Manager, Explorer, DWM and Photoshop for example) when clicking on a menu item which opens the drop-down list. The more images I have open the worse it gets.
    This is on a laptop with a i7-2640M CPU, 8GB memory, SSD and NVidia GT520M videocard.

    Might start with the video card.  How does your card compare with the tested list below?  Does the GT and M mean something special?

  • Preserving Black when Exporting from InDesign to PDF

    Hi All:
    I hope  someone who knows Acrobat can help me with this. I have an InDesign file  that I must export to PDF. That in itself isn't the problem. This is:
    The  text in InDesign is solid black (000000), but once it exports to PDF,  it collects a myriad of colors and will not print preperly to the  newsprint. I'm doing this for a newspaper. I use InDesign, they use  Quark. The client uses InDesign as well. I can NOT figure out how to  convince Acrobat to leave the color alone.
    I've tried to  figure it out with the Ink Manager, etc., but for the life of me, no  matter what I do, It comes out as all the colors of the rainbow. It  LOOKS black in the PDF, but when you select it, it is NOT black. It's a  mess. Two full pages of this stuff and I'll have to redo the whole  darned thing in Quark unless I can figure this out.
    I have tried using "Preserve Black" once it's in PDF format, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Obviously I'm missing something in the Export from InDesign function, but I can't figure out what.
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks so much, in advance.

    Okay. Above is the swtch from the original Color Preset. Below is the swtch after I made the changes mentioned above. I'm sure I'm not the only one who sees no difference. ??

  • Blacks are becoming rich blacks when exporting to PDF in CS2

    Im having a funny problem I have never noticed before where when I export to PDF from InDesign CS2 all blacks turn to rich blacks. I am verifying this by opening it up in Acrobat and viewing the separations.
    I have narrowed it down to a single setting. I can replicate it by selecting the "High Quality Print" preset and then in the Profile Inclusion Policy selecting "Include All Profiles" then exporting.
    This shouldn't be... Colour conversion is turned off so the PDF compiler should not be modifying the colour... just sending a tag along with it.

    I understand the processes of colour management and in no way am I trying to turn it off. Can somebody please try it out and see if my original problem is happening to them. I'm only asking about one variable... The Profile Inclusion Policy.
    I understand "No colour conversion" option does not mean turning off colour management... Its keeps all source files in their original colour space. I know this stuff.
    I also know there is not a lot of different between the hight quality print preset and the press quality other than the press preset has the Convert to Destination option set for colour conversion which forces objects colour to that of the destination profile. However this is not important... And please dont argue about this point because I'm only looking for a solution to one problem and I'm not a novice.
    I want to know why when I select include all profiles the black is converted to a rich black?

  • Drop down menus, Dock, highlighting menu items, - all malfunctioning

    Around two days ago, i began experiencing problems with the dock. i usually have my dock hidden, and i usually have the magnifying effect turned up as well. anyway, my dock began refusing to come out of hiding, or it would come out after a few (3-4) seconds but would not move. after a few restarts and a few plist clears (yes, tried the "delete dock preferences file" idea, no joy), the problem was still occuring. I then noticed that i could force the dock to refresh by clicking off it, on the desktop or another app window. the problem has since spread to all menus such as the apple menu, drop down menus etc, and they will not refresh until you click away either. I'm beginning to get really annoyed, so i signed up here and posted this.
    I'm running 10.4.8 on a G3 ibook with a recently installed airport card (if that counts for anything) I also installed a bunch of updates including the following;
    -X11 2006
    -J2SE 5.0 Release 4
    -ARD admin Update
    -security updates (2006-07 and 2006-08) - PowerPC
    -Security Update 2007 - 001
    These were installed a day or so before the problems started, or at least, before i noticed them.
    Thanks a heap

    This is also happening under New and Different users.You may be able to repair this with 10.4.8 PPC Combo Update
    This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before. It has worked well for many.
    Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
    If Intel use this 10.4.8 Combo Updater.

    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/28195552/javafx-tableview-context-menu-item-shows-up-when-run-on-java-8-until-update-5-bu
    pasted below:
    The fix is to create new menu items that are copies of the ones in the table's context menu:
    private ContextMenu showOnlyAppendContextMenuItemIfRowIsEmptyElseIncludeDelete() {
    ContextMenu rowMenu = new ContextMenu();
    ContextMenu tableMenu = table.getContextMenu();
    if (tableMenu != null) {
    for (MenuItem item : tableMenu.getItems()) {
    MenuItem rowItem = new MenuItem(item.getText());
    rowItem.setGraphic(item.getGraphic());
    rowItem.setOnAction(item.getOnAction());
    rowMenu.getItems().add(rowItem);
    rowMenu.getItems().add(new MenuItem("delete"));
    return rowMenu;

  • Why does my Desktop Mouse freeze (moves erratically) when selecting menu items in PSE13 Editor?

    It seems that my computer with 8GB of memory may not be enough to use PSE13.    The Organizer menu works fine when I select menu items.   The problem is when I switch to the Editor.   My mouse starts to freeze, move fast, or too slow.  It is difficult to select
    a menu item in this situation.

    Unusual. In theory PSE13 should be better as it's a 64 bit application.
    Can you try re-setting the prefs then close and re-launch the Editor. First you need to go to:
    Edit >> Preferences >> General
    Then click the button shown on the image below.

  • Why does form validation take effect when navigating menu items?

    I am using JDev 10.1.3.3.
    I have a data entry form where all the af:inputField's are set to Required=true. I expected that the mandatory fields should only be enforced if I click the form 's submit button.
    However, when I navigate to another menu item from my menu bar without filling in the fields, the mandatory fields also get enforced (e.g. Required Messages on fields appear and I am forced to have to enter some data on the field before I am able to navigate to another menu item. ) Navigating menu items should imply I am not proceeding with the data entry and should allow me to navigate instantly, even if there are blank fields.
    I notice the SRDemo also had this same behavior. Under "New Service Request", if you don't fill in a description and navigate to another menu item from the menu bar, it will complain and ask you to enter a problem description before switching tabs.
    This is obviosly not the intended behavior. How do I change this behavior so that when I switch menu items, data validation will not take place?

    Hi
    it happens cause the entire page is one form when you try to navigate out what it does is that it submits the form.
    To avoid validation for particular links or buttons set their property immediate to "true"
    hope this helps

  • How to capture when a button and menu item clicked by user?

    Hi,
         I am working in Acrobat 8 professional.
         I want to capture when Comments->Publish comments is clicked by user.
         My requirement is when Publish comments menu item is clicked then one alert have to be displayed.
         Similarly when user clicks Publish comments button then also one alert have to be displayed.
         How can i do this?
         Thanks in advance...

    There is nothing in the Acrobat SDK to really help you.  Your best bet it to use OS-level hooking functions.

  • Implementing menu items and saving state in my app

    Hello
    I'm a new user to the forums, but have a little bit of java programming experience.
    currently i'm writing some business applications, one of which is a payroll system. The target audience is end-user bookkeepers so i am planning for a GUI front end.
    My first question relates to how programs save their state. for example, each month the bookkeeper will launch the program and add the next months payments, or he/she will open the program to fix a mistake. In general how do programs like word, excel (or anything) save and load files to work with? I was thinking about using XML. I thought i would load in an XML file containing all work so far, and then the user could save to it, which would add the new work.
    Question the second: A lot of gui java apps i use (like argo, symphony etc) have standard menus at the tops. Items like open, save, close, print etc. How are developers actually doing this? is there some premade classes i can just use in my programs as well that would be me this funtionality? This kindof relates to my first question about saving and opening. Further, it seems there are two GUI libraries to consider - either SWT or Swring. Eclipse plugins are written in SWT (from what i have heard). Can anybody recommend which API i should be using to create a GUI for my program?
    I think that's it for now. If anybody can provide me with advice i woudl be most grateful, as i'm at a bit of a standstill with my development.
    thanks.

    attempted to take topic off the watch list - sorry guys

    My first question relates to how programs save their state. for example, each month the bookkeeper

    the user could save to it, which would add the new work. It sounds more like you are talking about saving the data instead of state--save in a database for mass and long term storage. Simple state info can be easily save in a database also or in a bean or text file.
    Question the second: A lot of gui java apps i use (like argo, symphony etc) have standard menus at
    the tops. Items like open, save, close, print etc. How are developers actually doing this? is there

Can anybody recommend which API i should be using to create a GUI for my program?Maybe this is not what you are asking, but menu systems are implemented with Menu, MenuBar, MenuItem, etc objects in Java. The specifics of what happens when the individual menu items are selected are left up to the programmer.
    If you are looking for prebuilt menubars with code attached to perform common functions, then I do not know of any included in Java.
