2 Questions - Charging & Slow Responsive Keyboard
Hi,
I need advise or help on 2 queries I have on iPhone 3g
1. What happens if I leave the iPhone (or iTouch for that matter) on charge for the entire night. Does it have any -ve impact on the battery life to keep it on charging even if the battery is fully charged ?
2. At times, I get very slow response from the keypad while typing sms or mail. Only 3 apps are installed. Apple Remote, Google & iPint. Does anyone else also have this issue and how can I resolve it ?
Thanks,
1. No need to worry - once the battery is fully charged, the charging process will stop. There is no danger of "overcharging."
2. Several people have mentioned similar slow text-entry issues. Some users have reported the issue is fixed by connecting your iPhone to iTunes and performing a Restore. (Note that doing that will update the firmware from 5A345 to 5A347, which is an "unannounced" firmware update from Apple.)
Hope this helps...

Slow response to keyboard input. Mountain Lion.
My iMac has a slow response to keyboard input. Please advise.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for response problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Slow response when entering data to an empty cell?
Hey there...
I have this issue that when I start entering data into an empty cell or owerwriting one, the response is slow; when I press a button on the keyboard it takes roughly 1 second before anything visual happens in the cell, but when the data "makes it way through" the response is normal when hitting the keyboard.
Is anyone else experince a slow response when entering data to an empty cell in Number 09 or when overwriting one?/ Anyone familar with a similar issue, and is there anybody who knows how to fix this, or is it just normal for Numbers 09 to be a bit sluggish in the beginning when entering data?
I've recently swithced from Excel 2007 to Numbers 09, so sorry if the terminology is incorrect.Question asked and answered several times.
Numbers was not coded by brains but by feet so, it behave sadly when the AutoSave Lion feature apply.
I posted a script getting rid of that.
Start from a template or duplicate the existing document just after opening it then close the original and work on the duplicate.
As it was never saved, AutoSave doesn't apply to it;
From time to time (say at least every ten minutes) call my script.
It wil duplicate the doc in progress and save it with a date_time stamped name.
this way, you will continue to enter datas in a never saved document.
Search for the string Auto_Save in the existing threads.
It's late and I'm too tired to search for you.

Slow response using internet, just hangs
Not the best at IT and just clicked update when it came up as available without realising what I was doing! Turns out it was an upgrade to os x 10.9.4. Since then the laptop has been practically unusable particularily when it comes to safari, it is either really slow getting to a particular page or just doesnt do anything, no matter how long you wait. Restarting doesnt seem to help, reload view fails as well. Its strange as sometimes its ok for 10 minutes then starts doing this. I know this is bad but I have never backed the laptop up so cant restore to previous version. I am currently looking into which external hard drive to buy so I can start doing regular back ups. I have run EtreCheck in the hope somebody can help!! Results below

My IPad 1 has lost complete power. I have attempted a restart and a reset without results. I have attempted to charge with the keyboard dock, the wall charger and connecting to my MacBook Pro. Again no results just a black screen. Is this a battery failure? I am in Mexico for another 6 weeks and hoping to find a solution.
Cathi-
How long did you have the iPad connected to the wall charger? A completely dead iPad battery may not work until it has been charged for some time - maybe a half hour or more. I suggest leaving it on charge overnight, and then trying the reset.
The MacBook may be able to charge the iPad if it doesn't go to sleep, but it will be extremely slow. the Wall charger is definitely the best way.

VERY Slow Responses in iTunes When Deleting
Hi,
Can anyone help me with a problem of VERY slow responses in iTunes when I try to delete or amend track information. For example when I click on delete it can take several seconds or more to respond and again when I confirm the deletion or amendment.
I have had this problem for some time now and still occurs after a full re-install of the operating system (Leopard 10.5.8 on a PowerMac Quad processor and iTunes 10.6.3) All the remaining applications work fine just as they should do.
BlackrockguyDoes anyone have an answer for this question? Is there perhaps some outside plug-in that can help?

firefox 4.0.1 is constantly freezing, having to reboot constantly, and not responding to key strokes, and very slow responses to keys strokes and to change sites. Firefox 3. (the previous incarnation of firefox) did not have such problems - this has started since "upgrading to 4.0.1 - I want to change back to the previous Firefox since this is a serious problem - need specific instructions on how to go back to the old Firefox
Do you have multiple keyboard layouts installed?
It is possible that you have switched the keyboard layout by accident.
* http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258824 - How to change your keyboard layout
Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application and you may have changed the keyboard layout by accident via a keyboard shortcut.
* http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/The-Language-bar-overview The Language bar (overview)
* Make sure that you have the Language bar visible on the Windows Taskbar
* You can do that via the right-click context menu of the Taskbar: Toolbars > Language Bar
* Check the keyboard language (keyboard layout) setting for the application that has focus via the icon on the Language bar
* You need to do that while Firefox has focus because Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application -

696 KB Page-outsI'm having the exact same problem. Since installing Yosemite, my iMac (late-2013 model with 32GB of RAM) is constantly hanging ... the spinning beach ball pops up constantly. It pops up when I open files, it pops up when I open windows, it pops up when I close apps, it pops up when I open apps, etc., etc., etc. I've tried everything and can't get it to stop. And to make matters worse, I'm having the exact same problem on my 2010 iMac. It's driving me nuts.

Despite large free space, my McBook pro is slow response. How can I do?
this user tip may be helpful in diagnosing your problem
I don't usually like recommending that particular guy's user tips. He has some very strange ideas, and they creep into his user tips. Some have some very questionable advice.
Try my Mac Performance Guide, the XLab's FAQ or the Mac OS X Speed FAQ instead. -
When I type in the search bar, I get a very slow response--the letters appear sluggishly, one by one, with about a one second delay between each. I have about 6000 songs and they are all on an internal drive.
I created a new user account and dragged all my songs into iTunes in that account. Searching was lightning fast.
So it sounds like the problem is isolated to my account. I want to know if there is a way to speed up the search. The easy solution is to rebuild the xml file by deleting the songs from my library and re-importing them, but I do not want to lose my play counts, last played dates, etc. If there is a program that can save all that information for me, that would also be acceptable.
Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

iMac G4 Mac OS X (10.4.6)A few questions:
-Is the application running on the same server as the database?
-Single DB or RAC?
-When last was the database analyzed?(SQL Stats)
-Was there database admin scheduled jobs running(exports,RMAN ect.)
-When last did you rebuild indexes? (do we need to rebuild indexes) -
New OIF installation - Very slow response from OHS
Hi,
I've installed two instances of OIF 10.1.4.0.1 in order to create a test configuration to test XASP Attribute Sharing (i.e., we are not doing any other profiles).
Both OIF instances are using a separate instance of Sun Directory Server as its User Data Store, and both are using in-memory for Transient Data Store and have no Federation Data Store. Both OIF instances were installed similarly, using the "BASIC" installation choices, and are running on separate Redhat Linux servers.
The problem that we're seeing is very slow (10+ seconds to 30+ seconds) responses, even when we try to access a static HTML test page that we've placed in the OHS htdocs directory.
We've eliminated any networking problems as possibilities by a couple of tests that we've done, including shutting down the OHS and running a small, different test web server listening on port 7777. When we do that, response time for requests from that web server is almost instantaneous.
We are also seeing the same slow response when we try to access the test HTML page from the same server itself.
We have an SR open with Oracle, but so far, we've not been able to identify what the problem might be, so I'm hoping that perhaps someone else may have encountered this problem and have a resolution.
It is really puzzling because, as I said, this is a pretty vanilla default OIF installation, and it is doubly puzzling because even getting a tiny static HTML page is taking 10+ seconds. Also, I had installed OIF 10.1.4.0.1 on a Windows machine previously, and I don't see this problem on that earlier installation.
If anyone here has any insight into this problem, please let me know.
Thanks,
JimHi,
I think I was able to temporarily eliminate this slow response problem. I think that the slow response problem is related to another problem that I posted about in the "Application Server - General" forum (see below, and Port 7200 conflict?
Jim
======= POSTED to Application Server - General forum ============
I think that I was able to temporarily work around this problem, plus another problem that I think is related (see: New OIF installation - Very slow response from OHS
What I did was to just comment out the "include" line for "dms.conf" in the Apache httpd.conf.
Doing that got rid of the "Address already in use" errors I was seeing in Apache error_log and also eliminated the slow response I was seeing from Apache/OHS (see that other post in "Identity Management" forum), BUT I am getting new errors about Apache not being able to find "htdocs/dms/Spy0".
I have the impression that dms is some kind of process monitoring system that Oracle has in 10gAS infrastructure? So, I have some questions:
1) What's the effect of dms not working?
2) Is it possible to just disable dms?
I hope that Oracle support can come up with a "real" fix for both problems, but in the meantime, as long as what I did doesn't break anything else besides dms, we can at least test the OIF stuff.

Sorry to be posting a question about this older version but I have just discovered the lack of Adobe support for PE3 and as a low volume user, I am not particularly keen to upgrade to PE7 if it won't recognize PE3 project files, and PE3 does all I want for now anyway. I am in the middle of editing this project by adding narration and background music, and finding very slow response to virtually everything I want to do. When trying to add narrative, it takes several minutes before it will start to record, then several more to save it. If I want to change any audio effects, same thing. Won't even open a function without a long delay, let alone save it. This problem only started as I've tried to add the audio. Up to now, editing the video clips has worked fine with only minimal delays.
The file is 9MB, which I wouldn't have thought to be a problem, and it's a reasonably new system, with 2GHz dual core AMD processor, 500GB of hard drive & 2GB of memory. Not sure what other info I should provide that might help. Has anyone else had this problem and or know what I should try to fix? very appreciative of any suggestions. TIAIs yours a Vista machine? If so, you may want to optimize it for video editing.

And, of course, ensure that you've got the 3.02 patch.

The other thing that will greatly affect the program's performance is what you're using for source video.
The program works best with DV-AVIs files captured over FireWire from a miniDV camcorder. Other files (such as video from hard drive or DVD camcorders) pose a variety of challenges that can impact performance.
Another key issues is photographs. If you're using them as source files, you can easily choke the program if you're not optimizing them to no larger than 1000x750 pixels in size before you bring them into your project.
If you can offer more details, we can give you more specific advice. -
RE: Slow response in GPIB Waveform Chart.
I have been using LabView to monitor two measurement instruments through
GPIB; i.e. cascade two GPIB to the pc.
My application simply displays the waveform chart from one of the
instrument, using the downloaded instrument driver from NI, and displays the
measurement values from the second instrument, using the GPIB write to issue
the write command and GPIB read to read the values.
Question:
If I run my application and retrieving data from both instruments, the
response of the waveform is very slow, compare with when I disable the GPIB
write and GPIB read of the second instrument.
Note: The second instrument does not have the NI driver because it is an
in-house developed instrument.
Your advice is much appreciated.Hello:
How fast is it when you disable the NI-GPIB device and run your second instrument with GPIB write and read? If this is fast you might consider changing the structure/flow of your LabVIEW code. Do you think there is a conflict between the 2 GPIB drivers? The drivers that we have only support our GPIB boards.

Parameter based on decode/function field - slow response
Hi,
When one of the parameters of a report is used, the report takes a very long time to run. The parameter has a LOV of statuses in Hebrew.
The folder is a custom folder and the status in Hebrew is a decode field using a function. In other words, it first goes to a function to get the status, and then translates each status (I guess that the Hebrew will be strange but I hope that the general form of the decode is clear):
DECODE( APPS.JAFI_DISCO_UTILS_PKG.JAFI_GET_INVOICE_STATUS(
AI.INVOICE_ID,
AI.INVOICE_AMOUNT,
AI.PAYMENT_STATUS_FLAG,
AI.INVOICE_TYPE_LOOKUP_CODE),
'APPROVED','מאומת',
'NEVER APPROVED','מעולם לא עבר אימות',
'NEEDS REAPPROVAL','דורש אימות מחדש',
'CANCELLED','מבוטל',
'AVAILABLE','זמין',
'UNAPPROVED','לא מאומת',
'SELECTED FOR PAYMENT','נבחר לתשלום',
'FULL','מיוחס במלואו',
'UNPAID','לא שולם',' ')
I am assuming that the reason for the slow response is the constant run of the function in addition to the decode (which I was once told also slows the response a bit).
Is there anyway to change the sql somewhat? Without using the parameter the report takes about 2 1/2 minutes to run. Using the parameter it takes around 25 minutes to run.
Thank you.

Edited by: user476771 on May 10, 2010 2:09 AMHi Michael,
I think your suggestion #3, checking the indexes, is an excellent start.
As to the other suggestions, I believe that everything passed to the function is needed to find the status.
We seem to have serious problems running materialized views. Our dba is actually checking it out now. One group of mv were changed a few months ago so that they are no longer needed (someone worked around it using other tables for the data). Another mv is problematic even though it takes 14 minutes to create in a tst environment (which I happen to do yesterday) and causes no problems afterwards, it is a problem when run in prod as part of a job. As I mentioned, our dba is checking it out.
I hesitate to create a new table that is updated every night with the status of each invoice. It won't be up-to-date during the day, and it means changing the report that has otherwise run smoothly until now. The user avoids using the one parameter as much as possible so it's not THAT bad...
I really appreciate your giving the four suggestions.
Thank you so much.
Leah
