2 questions with Blu-ray authoring on CS5

so first up, how do you make a seamless motion menu? just to get my feet wet on this first project, i just want to have a song playing in the background, while it goes through each of the chapter menu pages. i havent tested it on a real player yet, because i'm still tweaking menus, but in the Encore review box emulator, at each page the song starts up again. isnt that part of the blu-ray specification? seamless motion menus? basically what i did was i just set the song as the motion menu audio on the main first menu. and assumed (you know what that makes me) that that would set the seamless motion menu... not so much... so is there anyway to remedy this?
one more thing. i've yet to create the pop-up menu (probably will get to those this weekend), but i'm just brainstorming this, and was wondering if it can be done per blu-ray specification (or even more specific, per EnCS5 specification). the feature has 43 chapters, can i have it set up to where the pop-up is about 11340 px wide by 75-100 px high, and have it scroll through the menu off screen? or does the entire pop-up menu have to be contained within the screen size? i was just envisioning making a pop-up menu that had a link to each chapter, and was 43 links across, and once you got to say the 6 link or so, and hit right arrow, it just keeps feeding more options onto the screen. or would i have to just make like 7 transparent basic text menus in PS 1620x100, with 6 links per menu, and have a clickable arrow at the end of each pop-up linking to the next pop-up that you must press enter on (for examply laid out like this:
Main Menu Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 --> | <-- chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 --> | <-- chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 --> | etc, ect. )
i would prefer it to be just one long continuous menu, that you can seamlessly fly through (picture 'iPod cover flow' from the iPhone/iPod Touch iPod app), but if thats not in the specification, OR if its only compliant with BD-J, then is the second scenario (th one listed above) possible with Encore?
BTW: project destination is a BD-R DL because of how much footage i have, i had to succumb to the DL, so menu size should not be a problem at all as far as storage concerns.
i guess thats all for now.

You need to have a multi-page menu for a seamless playback.
Steps:
1. Import your menu and open it on the menu editor
2. Menu ->Add New Page
3. add all the chapter buttons
4. Cretae a previous button and link the page to main page
(repeat step 2-4 if you want more chapter menus, you also need to add Next button and should be linked to next page)
4. Now add your audio to the menu
->you can get a seamless playback now. Encore simulator doesn't support multi-page preview support, so you need to verify this on any BD player only.
function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

Again, you can achieve this using Multi-page menu.

  • Encore CS4 won't go into Blu-ray authoring mode

CS4 running on an HP Z800 with a Windows 7 operating system. I am trying to author my first Blu-ray project. The encode from the timeline went fine. When going into Encore, however, trouble starts. After filling in the new project screen (title, Blu-ray, 1280 x 720, MPEG-2, 59.94 fps) the project window opens up. Everything in the project window is still set for a SD DVD. I change the burner selection to the Blu-ray burner, and then select the Blu-ray option. At that point the little circular blue indicator starts rotating...and continues to do so. I've let it go for as long as five minutes and nothing changes. Then I go into the Task Manager and the entire computer seizes up, causing me to have to shut down manually. What is going on and why won't Encore go into the Blu-ray authoring mode?
    Thanks.
    Spencer

    Ramesh!
Thank you so much...it worked! After installing the pxhelp engine the Blu-ray function within Encore came up and appears to be functional. One more question for you, if you don't mind. As I said in my original post, the program was encoded for Blu-ray directly from the timeline using the Adobe Media Encoder. The resulting file came in at just about 16GB. Once I brought that file into Encore as a timeline, though, it was only 7GB and it was listed as "Untranscoded." Shouldn't an encoded file for Blu-ray function just like an encoded file for a DVD? If not, did I miss a step? Does it have anything to do with the pxhelp file, since the program was encoded before that file was downloaded? Any assistance you can provide here will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • July 2014 Blu-Ray Authoring Software comparable to DVD Studio Pro

Well, there have been a number of threads related to this question. The biggest problem with ALL of those threads is they get high jacked with people OPINIONS about the need to author Blu-Ray. SO let me start by saying if you intend to replay with "just use a dvd" or "no one uses blu-ray make downloadable content" or whatever your personal opinion is as to why I shouldn't need to author custom Blu-Rays like I could with DVD Studio Pro (DVDSP),  Don't bother posting in this thread. I have a legitimate need with a focused purpose and currently have not found a tool that allows me to do what I need for my business. Although I am getting by with available tools, I am not happy with the product I am giving to customers.
What I would like to find is a blu-ray authoring tool that allows from more than a basic menu and play function. In particular I need my blu-ray to play a short video before showing the menu. In DVDSP, this can be done very easily, but obviously its not HD.
If you know of a current tool, ideally MAC compatible but I am open to a good PC tool. That allows for blue-ray authoring beyond very basic menus like please share it.
Current Software I have tried that don't fit the bill:
Roxio Toast 11 :  only allows for very basic menus
    FCPX: Again only basic menu.
    Compressor: Even Less...
I don't mind spending a a bit on a known good tool, but I don't really want to spend 3000$ to do this simple task either.
Thanks so much for anyone that shares useful information!

I believe Encore is the best option after all my research. It is available once you subscribe to the new Adobe Creative Cloud.
I will say one thing that has worked for me as a blu-ray alternative, is to export the videos into a AppleTV/ iPhone / iPad compatible format (MPEG-4  .m4v) from FinalCut or QuickTime. The format is also windows compatible so it works regardless of the customers computer preference. A number of dvd / blu-ray players also support the m4v format.
I do wish that there was a good Blu-Ray authoring tool for MAC outside of Encore but at least Encore exist for the time being. I do find it interesting that Adobe also chose not to offer an authoring tool in their latest creative suite. If you can afford the 3k the Sony tool is pretty amazing FYI, even though its only PC.

  • Satellite L775-119 - Upgrade with blu-ray drive?

Had my L775-119 for a few weeks, and it's going great, really pleased but am just wondering if it's possible, sometime in the future to upgrade the DVD RW Drive to a Blu ray re-writer?

    Hello
Im not Satellite L775 owner but I think it should be possible because some L770/L775 models are delivered with blu-ray drive so generally speaking it seems that the notebook support such drives.
But you can get an exact answer from an authorized service provider. The guys can order a compatible drive for you and install it if you are not familiar with notebook part exchange.
Do you know how to contact an authorized service provider?

  • Blu-Ray authoring workflow

    Hi all,
I am just starting to work with Blu-ray. I created my first disk both BR-RE and a BR-R disks. I have been using Premiere Pro cs5 with latest updates for a while now. I have been taking HD content and exporting a dvd mp2 file with the following settings. 7 mbit max, 4-5mbit target, 1.5-2.5 min setting. This works flawlessly, never a problem. If I go higher let's say to 8 mbit I get glitches stops and starts playing back the video.
First, I exported a 1920x1080 timeline in PP CS5 from my new Canon 60D camera as a Blu-ray mp2 file. I get the same problem in Encore that all of you are having which is that Encore says the m2v file need transcoding (untranscoded). I already transcoded the file in media encoder from PP so this should not need to be transcoded again in Encre. PP say that there is an update to media encoder that I can update. Maybe this will fix the issue?
I also would appreciate some help getting stated with transcode setting for Blu-ray. One thing using the canon 60D do I need to convert the mov file first to Apple Proeres format before editing in PP?
Next, what's the best bitrate setting to use to export/ encode the file. I used the default settings in media encoder which I think was 15MBIt. This does not play correctly in my Blu-ray player. So I have to find a better sweetspot. I have read that 20 or 25mbps is better?
And is it true that i should use the Blu-ray h.264 setting instead of Blu-ray mpeg2? I think the quality of Mpeg2 is really good.
One last setting issue in Encore. There is a setting either to output an ISO image file in either BR-R or BR-RE. What's the difference? I just outputted a BR-R image file and wrote it to a BR-RE disk and it played just fine so I was wondering what the differences in the settings? I would like to be able to output one image file and use it for both -RE and -R disks.
Oh, from my camera I just copied the mov file to a folder on my HDD and then I just imported the mov files into PP as a timeline. The Video does play a little slow but not that slow on my PC.
    Thanks for the help,
    John Gerard

Set the vbr to 1 pass or use the H264 codec.
Best is to set the mbps same as the footage.
The default settings work just fine.

  • Sync Problem with Blu Ray

I have a sync problem when using Premiere Pro CS5 to burn Blu Ray DVDs and wondered if anyone has had similar problems and has found a simple solution.
Equipment:  Panasonic HMC-150 (AVCHD), shot at 59.94 fps, 720.  MacPro with operating system up to date, quad core, 16 GB RAM, Nvidia Quadro 4000. PP CS5 also has all current updates downloaded.
When the AVCHD files are imported, they tend to be out of sync by 8 to 22 frames.  I manually resync and edit.  Then burn a Blu Ray DVD using Encore and end up out of sync again.  I must be doing something wrong but can't figure it out.  At this point, the only solution I can think of is to try to figure out how far out of sync I am once the DVD is burned and offset the audio that amount before transcoding.
Has anyone encountered this problem before?  Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I have done some more tests and have determined that the problem only exists with Blu-ray.  When I burn a non blu-ray dvd, video and audio remain in sync. I attempted to export to Final Cut Pro 7 using the export xml feature, but it doesn't work.  I brought the original footage into FCP and burned a portion of it to blu-ray using the Share feature and there was no sync problem.  So I guess my only alternative at this point is to re-edit the entire video in FCP.
In Premiere Pro I've checked to make sure that both the camera and the intake were set for no drop frame and they were.  I've tried double checking the audio sync using the audio line out from the Mac rather than the firewire out to the Mackie Mixer, just in case there was a latency problem, which didn't seem logical and there wasn't any difference.  It can't be a problem with the blu-ray burner since it works in FCP7.  I'm running out of ideas of things I can tweak in Premiere, other than guessing just how far out of sync the program pushes the audio and then unlinking audio and pushing it the same number of frames the other direction before burning the blu-ray, but that will be hit and miss and it will start getting expensive throwing away blu-ray disks.
Any other ideas would be appreciated.  Thanks.  Jon

  • Decent blu-ray authoring software - any suggestions?

    Hi
I recently moved from PC to MAC and changed from Adobe to Final Cut Pro. I have no problems with authoring to DVD but I am struggling to see how I am going to do decent blu-ray authoring on MAC. Reason being is I have a number of clients that want both DVD and Blu-ray and I like to create interesting menus with background music. I am relatively happy with iDVD and DVD SP (which of course are not blu-ray compatible so no good to me) and I have just purchased Toast Titanium Pro and discovered you can not add music to the menu or do much else so it feels like a waste of money - any suggestions for good alternatives would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Encore CS3 - Blu-ray authoring - video formats?

Does anyone know if we'll be able to use h.264 or VC-1 video formats for Blu-ray discs in Encore CS3?
I already own some software that's MPEG2 only but would prefer more flexability (Roxio's DVDit Pro HD)
Will you be able to do "pop-up" menus that you can have appear while the video is still playing?

Blu Ray is not as easy as some folks think.
Wait until you try to get these titles replicated.....you will find that only Sony can actually do the job.
To quote from our replication company - who talked directly to Sony as they wanted to get into this:
    >the Sony guy was very open about Blu-ray production and replication - basically he says only Sony has the resources and time to devote to authoring and mastering the Blu-ray materials and the up fron costs (starting at £20,000 up front before any disc is made) mean that this is never going to be something for anyone other than the biggest media companies to get into. At least, not for the foreseeable future.
And that is a direct quote.
Additionally, they are also saying that Scenarist is the *only* tool they will accept content from. Still trying to find out about HD DVD replication - it is a LOT easier & cheaper to do.
Another issue with Blu Ray is that BD-R, the recordable format, will simply not play on most set top players. only PS3 will play these.
Finally, of course, Sony are also lying about the sales figures, as they have included PS3 consoles in the figure for Blu Ray players, which is sophistry. Most people buy PS3 for games, not Blu Ray playback. True BRD player figures are apparently well under 20,000 total.
They are ALSO lying about Casino Royale "sales" of over 100,000
Most of these were actually given away for free, not sold.......

  • Menu Problem with Blu Ray

Can anyone help? I've created a project that contains 2 edited movies. I have added a main menu, and given both movies a main menu marker, and an end marker. Normally on DVD's this would send you back to the main menu when each of the films were completed, but I cannot get this to work with Blu Ray. Am I missing something here? What happens in this case is that the Disc starts with the menu, but if you pick the first item, the film will play OK, but instead of reverting back to the main menu, it carries on and shows the next .. and on completion, just terminates - does not go to the menu. The same if you select the second item. it just plays through and terminates. It seems that the End markers are being ignored. Has anyone got any ideas ??

You can see how this product works by going to http://Muvipix.com and typing "DVD Architect" in the product search box. This will bring up a free 3-part Basic Training tutorial series where you can see the product demonstrated.

  • IMac with Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive. When?

Is there any info about when iMacs with Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive will be available?

Apple sits officially in the Blu-Ray camp so HD-DVD is less likely.
A slot-loading drive exists but only Apple know when and if they choose to use it in the iMac.
At this time even the Mac Pro doesn't have it as an option (unless you install yourself for $700, although that does inc Toast Ti).

  • When Will There Be Updated Support For Blu Ray Authoring????? Good Question

    Hi
What is the Hold up for Blu Ray Technology? Why is Apple dragging their feet for our great Macs to produce Blu Ray Hd authored DVDs when the windows is already ahead? I dont dont understand it, does anybody have a clue? , Ha!Ha! your secret agent news would be welcomed! Happy Editing!

Some rumors have been saying it will be available in the next release of Studio (FCP 6). Rumors say they are debuting this during NAB (April 16 ish). There are also rumors of FCP Extreme for about $10K per license, but I'll let you have fun thinking about that one

  • Blu-ray authoring w/Mac Pro

I use both iMovie6 HD and, later, FCE, for editing the kids' sports video from my JVC GZ-HD7U 1080i camcorder, but envision a day soon where I need to put my videos onto a Blu-ray disk (to show in my PS3). BestBuy currently is clearancing their BWU100A internal Blu-ray writer, and it's attractive because unlike many of the internal drives this one is EIDE (slower than SATA but possibly a direct replacement for the Pioneer main drive in the MacPro (I'm using the 2nd drive bay for a lightscribe drive). My question is has anyone else used this drive on a MacPro (the box only says Windoze) and is it compatible with iDVD? Also, can it serve as a 'bootable' drive or should I just consider an external box?
    thanks in advance.

    Joseph Armstrong wrote:
... and is it compatible with iDVD? ...
    No.
iDVD supports actually only authoring to the two SD standards NTSC and PAL ..
Toast8 claims to 'burn' BluRay, but still nobody dared to tell his/her experiences, how BR-standalone manage to handle such disks..
Apple is member of the BluRay consortium, so... on Jan 14th 08 is the next keynote.. (speculations are not allowed on this board), and Steve is at Disneys board, which supports - tadaahh - BluRay..
so, the standard will be BR, or Apple does some 'Superdrive II' which supports both HiDef standards... (I guess Pioneer has such a drive..? I've read some news..)
... but, we still miss software, which does the authoring.. encoding in HiDef is easy, but the disks have some formats and file structure, which is actually not supported by any MacOs software..

  • Blue ray authoring on a iMac

I edit on a iMac with fire wire 400 & USB ports, using premier proCS4.  I asked this question on that discussion and was told maybe someone could answer it here.  I would like to author to Blue Ray.  Is there a compatible external BR burner or a work around using Encore and Toast 10? I googled but couldn't find an answer.
    Thanks
    Kent

Encore CS3 and CS4 can author to Blu-ray on an iMac with a CoreDuo processor.
Any external FireWire Blu-ray burner should work.
