2 Reference monitors for Waveform/Vectorscope

CS3 - Is there a way to add a second reference monitor? The first for waveform and the second for vectorscope? I don't care for the combined ones because they are too small. Also, is there a way to make it default to waveform every time PP starts instead of having to change it to that mode every time? Finally, what does it take to make them display realtime while the video plays?
Thanks!
C

I don't think there is a way (I would love to learn there is, though).
But you know what? I agree completely (and I made sure this was heard) that WFM and Vectorscope are the essential ones and that the existing combo options make them way too tiny. What we need is not a second reference monitor, but these two things: one one hand, more versalite combination options (so you can have whichever two you want, side by side). On the other, the scopes display shouldn't have a fixed aspect like it does now. It should resize, even deform, the scope display so that it fits horizontally as you drag the reference panel as you like.

  • MacBook Pro display usable as a reference monitor for a camera shoot?

I am shooting a video project and wish to try and use my 17" Mac Pro display screen as a reference monitor on a live mini-DV camera shoot for focus and color versus lugging around a heavier CRT and battery back. Will the MacPro display be sufficient to significantly judge color, exposure, and focus? I know it's not ideal, but with improvements in LCD displays over the last few years I would like to hear from other users who may have tried using their display screens in this way and see what their results were.
    Many thanks,
    John

While the answer in itself is probably no, you could however spend some time to get yourself a known comparitive situation. With some careful calibration and comparison to a final result you should be able to get it to a point where, while not perfect, you know what you're going to get.
By the way, the matte display will produce far more consistent colour than the glossy display.
Utlimately though for the best results the suggested CRT solution is the one to go for even though it's somewhat a pain.

  • Which Studio Reference Monitors for a video edit suite?

Sorry that this questions does not have to much to do with Final Cut/Logic Pro though i don't know where i can ask people how know an video edit suite.
I'm looking at buying some Studio reference monitor and have found a pair i think are going to have what i need, untill the question of what happens if i wanted to go from a 2 monitor system and then the need came around for editing 5.1 dolby sound.
The monitors i'm looking at are Roland DS-5 2-way active digital Reference monitors. these have built in amps.
    thanks for the help

my suggestion would be to get something that's an industry standard. that way you can somewhat insure that you're hearing what everyone else is hearing. this is important. i use genelec monitors and i love them. if you have a small room get some 1030 or 8040 monitors.. if you have a larger room, go for a pair of 1031's or 8050's.. then add from there.. also make sure to get a totally passive attenuator: ie.. a-designs atty, or maybe even go into the dangerous line to if you want surrond.. also you have the nautilus stuff and more.. but make sure to take the standard high road and you won't regret it in the end. i have gone from totally crappy monitors to genelecs and everything in between. which means that i have lost money on upgrades when i should have just started with the standard from the beginning..

  • Reference monitor for digital cinema workflow

We use the Digital cinema workflow to create 2K title sequences for theatres. We plan to ad a 2K reference monitor into our workflow. The problem is that the video-out path for preview on reference monitors is not color-managed.
Is there a way to see a correct image on a referrence monitor in adjusting the monitor with LUTs?
Where can I find the needed LUTs?
    Which monitor do You recommend?
I use After Effects CS3, Mac OSX 10.5.5, 2x2,8 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xenon, 6GB RAM, Blackmagic HDExtreme2, Grafic card ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT

I'm trying to find out much the same thing. I would assume that anyone knows the answers can help both of us.
I'm purchasing a new Mac Pro desktop. I also use final cut but not after effects.
I actually have 4 monitors to choose from. 2 Dell 19" - One 27" Apple cinema display and a spector High Def 1080i monitor that has a DVI input.
I would like to use one of the Dell's as my primary home desk top monitors with folders and all the usual dock and stuff. I would like to use the cinema display as my primary final cut work surface.
I would like to use the HD monitor to show HD footage and use it as a client monitor. Remember it has a DVI input.
I've talked with the folks at the Local Apple store and they are not sure if I will get a real HD signal on the HD monitor if I add a second radeon 2700 card to the computer and take on of those DVI outputs and attach it to the HD monitor.
If thats not possible can I use the apple cinema display as my playback monitor?
Or do I have to go with a conversion box like a mxo, AJA board, or decklink box.
The goal is to have two monitors for the program and One monitor in HD for the client monitor,
    Thanks everyone in advance.

  • Reference Monitor Stopped Working

While working on a project I had to use "Interpret footage" to change the frame rate and pixel aspect ratio on a clip. After making the change, my reference monitor stopped working correctly.
Prior to making the above frame rate change, I was using the reference monitor for a waveform analysis which would play smoothly on both the Program and Reference monitors. Once I made the clip change, I lost the ability for the reference monitor to play smoothly-- it only holds an image of a single frame. In order to see the clip play I have to hold down the right arrow button. The program monitor works fine. And yes, it is set to gang.
The interpret footage command screwed something up. Any ideas?
I'm using Premiere CS2 with XP Pro Service Pack 3. NVIDIA Quadro FX 1400 card, AMD Dual Opteron 254 processors on a Tyan Thunder mobo.

    Hey,
I had this exact same problem!
I know this is an old thread, but just incase someone comes along here looking for a working solution,
    Liquid80 from http://forums.adobe.com/thread/688529
    posted this answer,
"Then  for some reason I decided to click on "Window" on the menu bar without  even thinking and then clicked "Program Monitor"!!! PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
There  are TWO different views. One called "Program Monitor" and the other  called "Reference Monitor" and the annoying thing is they look nearly  identical but function differently!!!
So all this time you had "Reference Monitor" open instead of "Program Monitor"."
    All the best

I need to buy reference monitors for a home studio, which brand should I get?

In that price range, I'd suggest you check out the following monitors. You might be better off trying to find something used so you can get a little more bang for your buck.

  • Digital waveform reference library for windows 7

    Hi,
Where can i find digital waveform reference library for JTAG/SPI/I2C for windows 7 I was only able to find it for windows vista/XP
    Thanks
    chintan

    Hi chintan,
What reference libraries are you referring to that are only for XP/Vista and not Win 7? Can you point me to where you found that?  When I searched, I found these three links. Are these the libraries you're inquring about?
    - JTAG Digital Waveform Reference Library

    - I2C Digital Waveform Reference Library

The VI's listed on these pages were originally written for LabVIEW 8.2, 8.5, and 8.6, but they should still work all versions of LabVIEW up to the most current version 2010 SP1. Are you having problems opening these? Any specific errors you're seeing?
Also, I'm not sure if you've seen this document yet or not, but this is a tutorial addressing exactly what you're describing.

  • Reference monitor defaults as ganged to Program monitor. Looking for fix.

I'm encountering an issue using PPro CC (7.2.2) where editing a clip into the timeline- either from the source window or from a bin- automatically opens the Reference monitor and has it ganged to the Program monitor.  I keep turning that off, but it happens again.
    Is anyone having this issue?
    Any easy ways to resolve?
    Thanks
    Mike

you could write a daemon method which would, every so often, search the forums for the keyword.
Better yet, you can use google's "site: bbs.archlinux.org keyword format to do your search.
But, be sure not to do it too often. If you keep banging a particular forum website too often, your ip might get banned.

  • Best monitor for animation

Hi, I'm working on a big animation project.  I'll be doing everything from the concept art to the actual animation, but I need a new monitor.  My budget is around $350.  At the moment I'm planning to buy the Samsung LS27A350HS.  I want a 27" inch monitor for this kind of work, and I was told this was the best for the price range.  What are you thoughts?  Is there a better monitor I should be looking at?  I found a used Dell 2707wfp for $400, but I don't like the idea of not having a warranty.

Producing and creating animations are not the same as roviding technically precise media to outlets. If your color space is out of gamut for a specific delivery media, yoru work will be rejected or it will be modified by someone who does not have your best interests at heart.
You already have what you need, you've just never opened it up!
Synthetic Aperture supplies an app/plugin with After Effects called Color Finesse. Way cool.
The Color Finesse interface is divided into four main windows: the Analysis Window, the Image Window, the Settings Window, and the Color Info Window. Each window has a set of tabs which can be clicked to select panes within that window, with the exception of the Color Info Window, which has no tabs. As you work, you’ll find yourself switching between different panes, depending on the color correction operation you’re performing. Dividing the screen into different windows ensures that you’ll be able to see the information you need as you make color correction adjustments.
The Analysis Window contains a number of displays that are intended to allow you to view the image you are correcting in an objective fashion. Included are traditional displays you would find in the typical telecine bay, including several different styles of waveform monitors and a vectorscope, as well as more specialized displays such as histogram displays and a level curve display. Because it is often useful to see several of these displays simultaneously, Color Finesse also includes a Combo pane which incorporates four displays of your choice on one pane.

  • MacBook Pro as second monitor for 27" iMac

    Hello,
Yesterday I purchased a 13" MacBook Pro and a Thunderbolt cable. I figured out how to use my 27" iMac as an extended display for the MacBook Pro by clicking cmnd F2 on the iMac's keyboard but how do you use MacBook Pro as an extended display for the iMac? Clicking cmnd F2 on the laptop doesn't work.
I've come up empty with my searches.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks so much for all the suggestions! Really, it's opened up my way of looking at it and I can see how these suggestions could come in handy. What I've done for the immediate is install Air Display. It's not ideal as the image fragments somewhat when areas of an image are selected using PS on the external display (MacBook Pro). I'm an animation BG artist so detail is important but once it goes into the main iMac display it seems fine.
I mostly wanted the second monitor as a reference point for what I'm 'painting' on the iMac and to have the ability to select colour, ect. Since I HAD to buy a MBP recently I figured I might as well get the the most from it!
    Cheers!

  • Ref. monitor for pal, ntsc and HD

    hey there,
i am working more and more on my own edit station. so i want to make it more efficient.
i need a monitor or TV to see my edits on a bigger scale, something like a reference screen!!
and i need a pci card to connect it, too.
but here is the thing, ideally i need one that i can use for PAL, NTSC AND HD projects!
    is that even possible??
my intention is mainly to see my edit on a bigger scale, not necessarily to have a 1:1 reference image because i guess that would be out of my budget. otherwise that would of course be very interesting!
    i use a 2x2.66GHz Dual-Core Mac Pro Computer with MAC OS10.6.4 and FCP 7
thanks for your help and interest!!
    andy

    hey, thanks for your reply.
unfortunately those high end reference monitors are out of my budget.
i would already be happy, to have some sort of screen (TV or monitor) on which i can
see my edit on a bigger scale. i don't need it for color correction or finalizing.
and as i work on SD and HD projects, it should work with both.
so, is it possible to use a HD-TV or a computer monitor for that?
    SDI or HDMI?
forgive me, if this is confusing, but english is not my mother tongue.
    thanks again for your help!!

  • Configure Interface channel monitoring for PI in SOLMAN 7.1

    Hi Experts,
I am configuring interface channel monitoring for PI in SOLMAN 7.1.In step 5 (Define scope) it is asking to select scenario.I can see all PI systems (Dev,QA and PRD) is listed in the table with "monitoring and alerting setup status" as yellow.when I select PI (prod) and proceed , in step 6.3 (Interface channel Monitoring config) I don't find any channel name in table.I need your support to clear my understanding on this.
1)My objective is to monitor all the interfaces that are existing between PI system and other SAP as well as non SAP systems (that include JDBC connections also). How can find all these interfaces in solman while doing Interface channel monitoring config?
2)I am not sure if I have understood correctly that I need to create scenario that includes technical systems between which Interface channel are to be monitored. If I am correct then how can I bring the technical system to SOLMAN SLD from Local SLD of PI(prod). Here I am not getting option to synchronize SOLMAN SLD from PI Local SLD. Even Import option is also not there. Do I need to create all the Technical systems (present in PI) to SOLMAN SLD manually?
If my understanding is not correct then please guide me through steps to do the configuration to achieve my objective.
    Thanks
    Aditya Roushan.

yes, the problem solved. thanks for your replies all.
the users SLDDSUSER and SLDAPIUSER got locked, I changed it in su01.
and I created rfc in SM59 for SAPSLDAPI and LCRSAPRFC and create the same in JCo RFC provider.
    both are working.
    but iam facing new problem.
I have solution manager 7.1 system and I configured local SLD. I did not connect any managed system as of now.
after all the trouble shooting, SLDAPICUST and SLDCHECK is fine but
    the error is
"Functional call returned exception code 3"
"Access to XI Profile currently disrupted.
I have solution manager 7.1, I did not configure managed systems as of now.  is this error belongs to solution manager 7.1 or for PI system.
can u please guide me how to trouble shoot this error. check the following screen shot for reference.

  • Reference monitor doesn't play simultaneously in real time? How is it used?

I thought the point is to have two monitors playing back simultaneously for scopes / composite or to send to a secondary feed for clients, similar to video village on set.

Not sure why you started a new thread on this ..but anyway.
The reference monitor is not designed or suitable for a secondary feed to external monitors.
It is used to have two looks at same frame eg a composite and a scope
or two looks at  different frames eg unganged .  This maybe for a CC and grading comparison.
It is not absolutely vital that it plays in real time for either of these instances.

  • Good low-cost widescreen monitor for one-screen editing?

Hello, I'm on a tight budget, looking for a widescreen monitor that is a good blend of low-cost but good quality (if possible!).
I will be doing all my work off this single monitor. I will unfortunately NOT be able to have a dual-monitor setup, nor have an external reference monitor. I will be editing HDV footage.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

It is a PVA screen with dual DVI and a D-sub connector.
I use three of them and they give me a good BFTB, "Bang-for-the-Buck".
If you consider the various panels in use, they go from low to high in quality, TN >> PVA >> IPS.

  • Premiere CS6 reference monitor blacks out!!

I am using PPCS6 on a windows 7 machine and it has been fine up until today, now the reference monitors on screen and my external monitors just keep going black and I have to save, exit and open it again for clear it but it only lasts a couple of minutes before it does it again.
No plug ins, updates etc were installed since yesterday when it was working fine.
    Any help?

    Welcome to the forum.
The first thing that I would investigate would be my video driver(s).
What is the make and model of your video card?
What is the currently installed version and date, for the video driver?
Is that the latest from nVidia, or AMD/ATI? If not, download, install and test the latest version.
    Good luck,
