2 SATA RAID drivers come with Neo4?

I don't get it.. The Neo4 comes with 2 floppy disks. One SATA RAID Driver from Silicom Image, and one from nVidia.
Why 2, is one better than the other?
And why do I need to install it? I don't use RAID, I only have one SATA disk in my system. Yet "RAID Driver" comes up as uninstalled in my Device Manager?

My motherboard has 8 SATA ports http://images10.newegg.com/productimage/13-130-484-02.JPG see? 4 orange 4 purple.
But I only use SATA1 (one purple)
Why do I need to disable the others, do they clutter up system speed? do they steal power?
Which one should I use for my single harddisk, does it make any differnece if I use orange or purple? It's like choosing red or blue pill, I have no clue.

I lost the floppy disk containing the VIA SATA raid drivers for Windows Installation. My M/B is the KT600 FISR. So I kinda need the drivers as I am setting up a SATA drive.
Can someone please say where I can get the drivers, or email me the attached drivers.

    Thanks,

I am worried my floppy drive controller or something on the motherboard is not working. I tried the floppy disk containing drivers and Windows Installer said still said "Please insert the manufactuer's disk", I took out the disc and got the same message.
Then I booted up Windows Installer with the same floppy disk in a different MSI motherboard (a P4 mobo I have) and it detected the drivers fine.
Tried all the updated drivers you specified, and the floppy drive reads fine from Windows and is brand new (same problem with old one which I replaced only to find the same problem :
The mobo is still under warranty, should I give MSI / dabs.com a call?

  • K8N 64bit sata raid drivers?

ANyone know where or how to get drivers for intalling 64bit windows on this motherboard. I cannot find any sata raid drivers for this board for w64. Thankyyou

Thankyou for your responses.  I did try extracting the nvidia files to a floopy but I must have done something wrong.  I did find a site that showed how to use the via drivers and make a txsetup.oem file, but that seemed to complicated. I know you folks will have an answer. Thanks again.

  • P965 Platinum SATA RAID drivers to slipstream

    Hey guys,
Once in a while I slipstream SATA and SATA RAID drivers into my WinXP Pro setup cd, so I will not need a floppy on any system. My setup cd now contains drivers for VIA VT8237, nForce3, Promise 20378 and Promise 20579 controllers. I would like to add Intel ICH8R drivers...
I know how to do it, that's not the issue. But on MSI's download section for my P965 Platinum I can find two drivers:
Which one is to be used to setup RAID arrays on the ICH8R? Both contain contents for a floppy, both folders and files look the same. It's just that they differ in size, so I'm not sure which one I need. Do I need to slipstream both drivers to setup a RAID 0, 1 or 5 array?
    Thnx in advance...

Alright, thanks. Why the first one and not the second one? Is there a difference between the two? I can not slipstream both, as they are both named "iastor.sys"...
"I can not slipstream both, as they are both named "iastor.sys"..."
you no need to put them both, only one of them.
they are the same version, all files match except iastor.sys size (in same time both iastor.sys are "same version" too.. 6.0.0.1022)
"Why the first one and not the second one?"
just guess, because MSI put them as ICH8R SATA RAID Driver as primary. if you have any problems you can try drivers from second achieve.

If Nvidia d/load the nvidia64 drivers & make a new floppy with the updated drivers. to do this Right click the D/L driver File  & select unpack/unzip. Navigate to the \Nvidia\nForce_vrsion ?? \IDE\WinXP folder copy everything except the raidtool Folder onto floppy.

Why are you confused?   i want to know why or if i can use regular XP pro raid drivers for my Nforce3 chipset on MSI neo platinum board if i install Windows XP pro 64-bit edition. There is no 64 bit download for them so , do i need any?

  • Using Latest SATA Raid Drivers When Installing Windows XP?

Getting my raid 0 setup on my K8N Neo4/SLI board wasn't as easy as it should have been. I ran into a few problem with my raid drivers that came with my system. While I was trying to install Windows XP, the system refused to restart itself even after the installation was done. A push of the reset button was necessary to help continue the install. Only after I installed the latest nForce 4 Forceware drivers was everything working the way it was supposed to. Since I would like to avoid this trouble the next time I decide to set up raid, how would I go about creating a floppy disk that contains the latest raid drivers to use for a Windows install? Thanks!

Download the manualhere. Then refer to from page 6-2, you will know how to configurate the raid.
My friend has the same mainboard as yours, so I just refer him for the information you need.

  • Need to understand what drivers come with PXI PROFIBUS M/S

I have an OEM client who wants me to configure and comission a new project.  They were given a LabView program from THEIR client, written in 8.5.  My client purchased a PXI system including a PROFIBUS Master/Slave card 780161-01.  I need to make their LV system communicate with a Seimens S7-315 PLC over Profibus.  My first question is if I need to purchase any additional OPC drivers or anything, or if there were drivers included with the board which will enable OPC communication to the PLC.  Drivers need to be compatible with LV 8.5 as I will most likely leave the code in that version, to be compatible with the end user's software.

Search for profibus from ni.com/drivers and get the latest visa driver. The readmes on the page should say what version of LV are supported.

  • SATA RAID: Poor performance with dual raptors?

I have the NEO2 S939 board. I also have the Gigabyte S939 nforce3 board for comparison, and even an Asus 800-E Deluxe (ICH5R) board for comparison.
I have built all three the same way (F6 install on all three, install both drivers for the nforce3's, intel ich5r raid driver for the intel). I'm using twin 74GB Raptor 10k's in RAID0 for all three.
After the base OS build and chipset driver installation, The fastest of the three is the gigabyte board at 106MB/sec in Sandra.
Coming in second at 100MB/sec is the Intel system.
Dead last is this MSI board, at 57MB/sec.
I've cross-checked with HDTach, and the results are similar. The other boards are twice as fast with RAID0 than the MSI.
Is this a "known issue"? I've tried upgrading drivers and everything (The latest are the ones on MSI's site, but they yield the same results, even after a fresh F6 install using them).
Is this 57mb/sec about the performance I should expect from my dual raptor rig on this board? (obviously, that's unacceptable).

Seems alright for others, though I don't know what sata ports (1&2 or 3&4) he is using.

  • Problem when booting from PATA drive on IDE-3 with SATA RAID on ICH5R

    Hello,
I have a PATA drive installed as Master on IDE-3 (Promise Controller), using Windows XP as the operating system. I also have an aditional drive as Slave on IDE-3.
I recently bought 2 SATA drives which I would like to use as a RAID array, so I connected them to SER-1 and SER-2, on the ICH5R controller.
I set the On-Chip IDE Configuration as follows:
    Native Mode
    SATA Only
    Keep PATA Active - Yes
    PATA Channel selection - Both
Configure SATA as Raid - Yes
I have my PATA Master IDE-3 drive as the firts boot device...unfortunatly now my system does not boot up.
It goes through the Intel Raid Bios screen, then the Promise Controller screen, and then when it was supposed to start loading windows, the screen remains black for about 2 minutes and after it I receive an error message warning me that Windows has detected a hardware configuration problem.
I went back to BIOS and changed the "Configure SATA as Raid" to NO, and now everything works fine, except for the fact that I have no RAID array installed.
Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks,
    Mihalis

The PATA IDE channel associated with the Promise controller is exclusively designed to be used as a RAID solution. It seems you have an invalid hardware installation of your 2 EIDE drives. Although you succesfully installed WinXP using that configuration, you're destined to have unpredictable behavior because of it.
WinXP looks to the BIOS first to identify hard drives. Then it does something that no other OS has done before (except maybe Win2K), it attempts to detect the hard drive directly through the wires itself. If it finds something, it installs resources to get it to work right. In your case, WinXP has bypassed the BIOS and detected the drives but doesn't really know where they are. WinXP just knows they are there so it supplied the necessary resources to complete the installation.
That drives that are connected to the Promise controller must use the Promise RAID drivers supplied with your motherboard so that the Promise controller can properly report to the OS. You could have conected the same two drives on the same controller, but they needed to be configured as RAID drives within the Promise controller utility.
To have them recognized as separate drives, you need to define each drive as a stripe, except you would have a 1 + 0 stripe instead of a 1 + 1 stripe. The drives are still connected the same way (Master/Slave) as you have them now. This congiguration would allow you to take advantage of the Ultra ATA 133 feature of that channel as long as you attached hard drives which support that standard.
Finally, you would set the "Onboard Promise IDE" menu as "RAID" to have the drives properly recognized through the BIOS. Currently, you have that set as "S-ATA" but you have no S-ATA drives installed on that controller.
I realize this does not resolve your original problem, but at this point, I would recommend that you back-up data at your earliest convenience and start over.
If you do decide to start over, you may want to consider attaching your S-ATA drives to the promise controller instead of on the Intel controller. Aside from getting better performance, it makes for a much simpler install through the Promise controller utility and then everything is manageable through the PAM utility at the desktop.

  • K7N2G-ILSR (MS6570G) Promise RAID Driver trouble with 1TB SATA-II HDD XP SP2

Hi, I'm having trouble getting XP to recognise my new HDD.
I am using a MSI K7N2G-ILSR. I already have a 40GB IDE drive I use for the OS and apps, and an 80GB drive I use for storage. I recently bought a new 1TB Samsung SATA-II drive to increase the storage.
To begin with I simply plugged it in (port on the mobo marked SER1) and hoped XP would auto detect it. No such luck, so I used a USB to SATA convertor to connect the drive, format it, and check it worked properly. All OK, but still no result from windows when I go to the disk management settings.
So I got out the mobo manual and followed the instructions for installing the Promise 376 SATA RAID drivers. I setup the array in fastbuild (auto setup to a single stripe 1+0 array) and it shows the drive as present and functioning. I put in the XP CD and F6'd the SCSI drivers on as directed by various google searches. That went fine but there is still no detection in XP.
The drive came with jumper pins but no jumpers. I am slightly confused as I have read the jumpers can be used to force 150 speed from the drive, but also that SATA-II is 100% backwards compatible and doesn't need jumpers whether it's host is SATA or SATA-II.
I have read through various threads in this forum and have not been able to find a solution. The drive works fine, the RAID bios seems to work fine, but I can't achieve a detection by XP (with SP2).
Hope somebody can help me master this! If I've forgotten any details just ask.

Cool, thanks. It wouldn't let me install the exe, was I supposed to change to extension to .inf? Anyway, it did let me install the Promise driver from the floppy, and that now shows properly in the device manager.
I will reboot and report back.
"Cool, thanks. It wouldn't let me install the exe, was I supposed to change to extension to .inf?"
No, just run it 1st. Its self extract archive which will expand the drivers to desired location.
"Anyway, it did let me install the Promise driver from the floppy, and that now shows properly in the device manager."
    Yes, that's the same drivers.
"I will reboot and report back."

  • [Athlon64] 'No disks detected' when installing WinXP64bit on striped SATA RAID

I've been using my RS480M2 board with a dual boot config (WinXP Pro 32bit and WinXP Pro 64bit) using a Maxtor Diamond Plus 80G SATA hard drive configured as an IDE/ATA. I set the controller as "IDE Controller" in the bios. Everything has been working just fine and I must say that I really do notice a big performance improvement on the WinXP64bit compared to the WinXP32bit.
I then purchased another Maxtor 80G SATA with the intention of setting up a SATA RAID 0 (striping) config to see if I will get more performance gain. So I changed the controller to "SATA Raid Controller" in the bios. Then I used the Sil3112A GUI (by pressing F4) to configure my 2 SATA hard drives as RAID 0. I tried installing WinXP Pro 64bit but the SATA RAID drivers I've tried just do not work. The Windows setup would indicate that there are no disks detected. I already tried the 32bit SATA RAID driver, the one at Silicon Image site, a few ones at PlanetAMD64, etc. No luck!!!
So I just installed WinXP Pro 32bit using the provided Sil3112 SATA RAID driver floppy diskette that came with my board. And it installed without any problems. All is well. So the problem is: WHERE THE HELL CAN I GET A SATA RAID DRIVER FOR WINXP64BIT???
To anyone who has the solution to my problem, kindly email the driver (or link) at [email protected]
    Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply. I finally got to install Windows XP Pro 64bit onto my RS480M2-IL configured as SATA RAID 0 (striping) with 2 80G DiamondPlus SATA hard drives. The sata drive that worked is the one on this link:

  • Bios and SATA Raid setup nightmares

Three manuals with this mobo and I just can't get it set up.
I have the 865PE Neo2-FIS2R, an Intel 3.0GHZ Northwood processor, a pair of 256 memory chips configured as dual channel. A pair of SATA drives are on the Intel ports. The IDE has four devices connected, a HDD, Zip drive, and a pair of CDs. All of the hardware, jumpers, cables seem to be working fine.
My goal was to have a SATA Raid 0 setup, with the spare drive for backup and misc storage. CD's and Zip for input, burning, etc.
After everything was connected I booted Win XP Pro from the CD, did the F6 thing and installed the drivers for both Intel and Promise (Fastrack and drivers). Setting up the bios "Integrated Peripherals" was a real problem and the book very little help, but I finally got the system to recognize things so I could format and boot and install the OS. I did the Control-I thing and configured the Raid drives (at least I think). So far, so good.
After the OS was installed, SP1 added, etc. I got ready to configure the Raid. The CD does not come up with the screen shown in the manual. But I did find the Intel IAA RAID Edition in a folder. Running it results in an error message saying that the software does not support this chipset. Downloading similar drivers for both Promise and Intel always dead-ends the same way.
What I'm leaving out are the--literally--hours of time I've spent trying to get the devices configured right in the Bios' "Integrated Peripherals." I have no idea what I'm doing and the book is no help. But the devices are all there now and the OS runs fine (but not as a Raid 0 set up).
The book says I can migrate this configuration to a Raid volume. How, when I get that error message?
And another thing. Can I use the Promise IDE (PATA) port for a single drive? It's the only place on the mobo where ATA 133 is supported.
I think I'm in a world of trouble here. Don't know squat about these complex bios setups. Sorry this is so long.
    ardi

OK, I actually went down to the basement and dug out the ICH5R Raid Manual. Basically it says in order to take advantage of the ability to migrate later on, you have to set Raid in Bios B4 loading Windows and install Raid driver with Windows setup. If you've already got Windows installed on 1 disk and had Bios set to"SATA as Raid- NO", you're out of luck.
Here's the exerpt from the manual:
    Quote
The Intel Application Accelerator RAID Edition offers the flexibility to
upgrade from a single Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive to a two drive RAID 0
configuration when an additional SATA hard drive is added to the system.
This process will create a new RAID volume from an existing disk. However,
several important steps must be followed at the time the system is first
configured in order to take advantage of RAID when upgrading to a second
    SATA hard drive:
    1. BIOS must be configured for RAID before installing Windows* XP
on the single SATA hard drive.
    2. Install the Intel Application Accelerator RAID driver during Windows
    Setup.
    3. Install the Intel Application Accelerator RAID Edition after the
    operating system is installed.
    Maybe someone knows a work-around?

  • K7N2 Delta & SATA RAID

Good day, I have not been sucessfull in gettind the onboard SATA working, and when I tried a promise SATA (non raid) controller card, the system halted at the 378 screen, I guess they were conflicting.
Now that I still want SATA I would like to know if this card:
    http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=150917&Category_Code=HDCards
    would conflict as well?
    Thanks

    BigMak,
There are several things you need to do to use the onboard SATA RAID:
    1) Set SCSI in the Boot Order of the BIOS
    2) In the SATA RAID Contoller you need to setup a RAID Array with your SATA Drive.
    3) When you start the WinXP install you need to hit F6 and install the SATA RAID Drivers.
If you are going to use a PCI SATA Contoller, you need to put it in PCI Slot 3.
    Take Care,
    Richard
P.S. as for your question in the other thead, I do love my Raptor Drives.

  • P55-CD53, how to install SATA AHCI drivers and Matrix Storage Manager?

Please excuse my noobness as this is for my first PC build and much of it is Greek to me, but could someone please inform/educate me as to what the following drivers (link) are for and which need to be installed after a fresh installation of Windows 7 Pro x64? Do I need to install all of them because some of these appear to be redundant, just from different manufacturers, or am I mistaken? I have a single 500GB HDD but will probably add more down the road.

After booting from the Windows 7 disc, I selected Repair Windows, Load Drivers. Which specific controllers do I need to install for the P55-CD53 MB since there are multiple controllers listed for each of the four SATA compressed files?
Considering the multiple files and multiple controllers, is there no one out there with a P55-CD53 that has AHCI mode enabled that can give dumbed down instructions on how to do so?
The manual states "Select the appropriate RAID controller and press enter." Well... which one is the appropriate controller? Am I suppose to load the driver for all the AHCI controllers if that's even possible?
For the Intel P55 AHCI / RAID Drivers compressed file, these are the controllers available within F6flpy64\iaAHCI.inf:
    Intel(R) ESB2 SATA AHCI Controller
Intel(R) ICH 10D/DO SATA AHCI Controller
    Intel(R) ICH10R SATA AHCI Controller

    Intel(R) PCH SATA AHCI Controller
Intel(R) PCHM SATA AHCI Controller 4 Port
Intel(R) PCHM SATA AHCI Controller 6 Port
Also, regarding the dual BIOS controls for SATA/IDE/RAID settings previously mentioned, I believe SATA ports 1-6 are controlled via Intel and 7,8 are controlled via Jmicron. Considering my HDD is currently plugged into SATA 1, Jmicron probably isn't necessary for the moment.
    Edit:
Turns out that none of the drivers for the controllers listed in iaAHCI.inf could be installed. However, I went ahead and installed the drivers listed for all the controllers in iaStor.inf. I reinstalled Windows 7 to get rid of the BSOD. I then installed the chipset drivers and Intel Matrix Storage Manager.

  • PT8 Neo SATA Raid Configuration Utility

I recently upgraded my system which was running a AMD athlon 1.2GHZ processor and only 128mb SDRAM.  The system was stable and running windows XP home edition.
I upgraded to the PT8 Neo motherboard which supports SATA hard drives.  I was expecting a dramatic increase when I upgraded my system to the new P4 800mhz FSB 3.0GB processor and 512MB DDR 400mhz ram.
I was still using my WD 60GB EIDE Hard Drive when I upgraded the Motherboard, Ram, & Processor.  The upgrade went smoothly and system worked without glitches.
Unsatisfied with the increase in performance, I also purchased a Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10000 RPM hard drive using the SATA interface cable.
I have updated the bios of the motherboard and updated the driver for the SATA raid controller using Live Bios Update 3.
    I am having 2 problems:
Problem 1.  When I enter the bios for the SATA Raid configuration utility after the initial post by pressing , none of the selections are available.  I move my arrows down but nothing highlights and I can't select anything in the configuration utility except ESC key to exit.
The SATA controller is enabled in the BIOS.
The initial SATA Raid Configuration displayed immediately after the post, does show the hard drive.
I want to be able to boot from the new WD Raptor Hard Drive and transfer all the existing files from the IDE Drive to the SATA drive, but I can't seem to get the drive to initialize, format, fdisk, etc.
Problem 2.  Windows XP doesn't have enough resources available to activate the VIA Serial ATA RAID Controller in Device Manager.  It shows a Yellow ! and returns a code 12 (This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use).  I have tried disabling several items in the bios including LAN support, On board Sound but nothing seems to work.
Keep in mind, I have downloaded the latest bios, latest drivers, etc.
The rest of the components on my machine are as follows:
    1.  Custom Built Computer (Non-Branded)
    2.  60GB Western Digital 7200 RPM IDE Hard Drive on IDE0 (Master)
    3.  DVD Rom on IDE0 (Slave)
    4.  MSI 52x32x52x CDRW on IDE1 (Master)
    5.  Zip 100 IDE Drive (Slave)
    6.  Floppy Drive
    7.  Pentium 4 3.0GZ 800mhz FSB
    8.  512mb DDR 400mhz Memory
    9.  ATI All-In-Wonder PCI Video Card
    10. SIIG Firewire controller
I have already tried removing the SIIG firewire controller thinking that it was getting in the way of available resources.  That did not work.
I have invested alot of money on this system, I wanted the best and have always used MSI motherboards because of their stability and reliability.
Please help as soon as possible.
    Thanks

first off you are only using one SATA so no option are avalible in Raid Bios
in order to install windows the safe way detach your 60ata hrad drive plug in the raptor and install windows then Press F6 at the begining the you will have to the SATA diskett in the floppy drive  in stall SATA windows drivers continue with install.
once you are fished Windows, drivers then shut down and plug in your ATA hard drive turn on your PC enter the bios navagate to the Advanceed BIOS Features/Boot Sequency selected your SATA raid drive as First boot then CD roms as second. then your done boot in to windows
