2 seperate iPods for 1 computer?

Does anyone know if there is an issue using 2 or more iPods on the same PC? I currently have a shuffle and also looking to step up to a new 30gb. I intend to use both but wanted to make sure there were not any issues with multiple iPods sharing the same iTunes on one PC.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
That's a good question to ask.
The main answer to this is: Yes, multiple iPod's with one computer can definetely be done.
There are generally two main methods of managing multiple iPods and their music.
Method one - Creating separate user accounts on your computer for each iPod.
Method two - Creating separate playlists on iTunes for each iPod.
These two methods are described in this Apple Support article.
How to use multiple iPods with one computer
This is something to remember, though: It's better not to connect multiple iPods simultaneously.
iTunes is definetely capable of managing both iPods connected at once, and it can often work fine for people who do this.
iTunes may respond strangly, though. Apple said it themselves (in the article that I linked to above) that it's not encouraged, even if iTunes can actually do it.
Any more questions or issues? Hope this helps!

  • Can you have two iPods for one computer?

I know nothing about iPods so please excuse me for this question that probably has an obvious answer. My sister has an iPod nano that she has been using with our computer for a long time. I just bought an iPod and was trying to set it up. So can I use her i tunes to put music on my ipod or how does it work? I am aware you are not supposed to steal music though. So what am I supposed to do?

Yes, you can use 2 iPod with 1 computer quite easily.

  • Multiple iPods for 1 computer, questions???

Hi, I'm hoping I can explain myself in this....
Okay, a coworker brought in her iPod yesterday. It has a small amt of songs (100 maybe??) on it. She doesn't even have a computer, so the songs that were on it, were put on it by her ex-husband. She brought in some CD's and asked if I could download them onto her iPod for her. At first I was like, sure no problem. But now I am wondering what is going to happen when I try to do this??
I already have 4 iPods in my family using the iTunes account. So is it, correct to say that we are only allowed 5 iPods per iTunes account? I am personally hoping to get an upgrade for myself soon, but plan on keeping my old one too. So when I get my upgrade we will then be a 5 iPod family. If I add my friends, will she cancel my chance of being able to use another iPod? Also, when I hook her iPod up to my computer will it delete off the songs she has?
Sorry, can someone tell me if A) it is possible to help my coworker out and/or B) what will happen when I do hook it to my computer. thanks

I am not trying to share MY music. I don't want the CD's she wants me to add to her iPod, it is some Spiritual/Inspirational/Motivational CD's that I am not interested in.
I hate when I come in here and ask a question and people assume I am trying to screw the system. I am asking honest questions just trying to understand what I can do! Call me naive or whatever, I don't sit in here and study all the do's and don'ts of iTunes/iPods, but I thought that was what this forum was for...asking questions.
Please quit accusing me of illegal activity! That is why I am asking because I am trying to avoid that. So was it illegal for her ex-husband to buy her an iPod and load it with some songs for her???

  • Two Ipods for one computer

i just set up my ipod on my computer and everything is working. how do i set up a family members on a different account and different itunes?

There are actually a few methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Just to summarise what's in the link above which is a little out of date:
Method one is to have individual Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you completely separate iTunes Music folders and libraries.
Method two is to set your preferences so that any or all of iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library:
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Another option when using a single library is to set any or all of the iPods to manual update: Managing content manually on iPod

  • How can I switch my mom's iPod to the main, only iPod for a computer?

I recently got a laptop and moved all of my music onto that. My mother's iPod, when plugged in, shows up in the Devices section, and I can only manage her music from there. Now that I am no longer syncing my iPod from this computer (Windows XP), how do I make it so that she can use the entire library feature, not just clicking and dragging into her own iPod?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jackie
Also, please let me know if I'm not being clear enough.

If you want to sync instead of manually manage, then go to the music tab and select sync, then select what you want to sync.

  • Two Ipods for one computer:  Can this work?

    Question:
My wife has an Ipod nano and my daughter wants one for Christmas. If my daughter hooks hers up to the computer, will it automatically load all the songs in my wifes itunes? Can they keep their songs separate from each others Ipods?
Thanks in advance for any info.

Apple has a great iPod website that explains all kinds of things about the iPod. Be sure to take a look there.
But to answer your question, yes, your daughter and wife can certainly use one computer and two iPods. My wife and I did for about a year. The first question is this - do they share any of the same musical tastes?
If not, then the easiest solution would be to create an account on your computer for your daughter. She can put her music in that account, keep her own iTunes library, and fill her iPod to her own delight.
If they do share any musical interests then it will be more economical to use just the one account. Your wife and daughter can create their own individual playlists and set their iPod preferences to sync only the playlists they choose.

  • 2 iPods on Same Computer

My wife has an iPod Touch. I want to purchase one and install on the same computer. Can this be done with separate songs and apps?

Manual sync can work, but auto synching is usually easier.
You have quite a few option dependant on how you have everything set up.
Do you use or will you use the same Apple ID/iTunes login for both of you?
If so just go ahead and connect/sync the new iPod to iTunes create two playlists one yours and one your wifes and just sync each to the appropriate device, done.(this also allows you to share apps betweeen the two of you)
If you are using seperate Apple ID's you have two options you can just simply make sure that whenever either of you signs in you make sure to log in and out of iTunes using each of your Apple ID's once again having a single playlist each OR If you use seperate logins for the computer you can just have a copy of iTunes set up for each of you on each Windows login kinda like having two seperate computers.

  • 2 ipods to one computer?

Ok, this is a very stupid question, but I'm curious. I have an ipod, but my dad and I want to get one for my mom for Christmas. The thing is, I'm not sure if you can have two ipods for one computer. I asked my friend once a long time ago and she said if you plug another ipod in, it automatically gets discombobulated, and erases all of the memory of anything you ever had...but she's kinda stupid.
I don't want to have to get another computer just for her ipod. Can iTunes be arranged to accommodate 2 ipods? Is there a way to create playlists and separate them into different folders, so on and so forth?
If it helps, I have 2 usb ports.
Please help! Thank you in advance!

  • Seperate Library for seperate IPods

I have 2 new 5th gen. Nanos. Can i have 2 seperate libraries on ITunes, instead of the one.. So, when I plug mine in it goes right to my library, and when my Wife plugs her Ipod in it goes to her own library.. Where we don't have to share the same one, cause we have entirely seperate tastes in music?.. Please help......P.S. Im also kind of new at this so be nice.....LOL thanx AZ

It's possible to have multiple libraries in a single Windows account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
However: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. The new library will be empty until you add content to it. To get back to your original library you need to close iTunes and open it again while holding down the shift key, this time choose to open an existing library and navigate to its location. Multiple libraries can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows

  • I use an iPod nano 5th generation. I have had it for 2 years now and then after about a year when I plugged in my iPod to my computer, the iPod is read but the tab where I would always go that showed my list of artists to sync to my iPod does not show up

I use an iPod nano 5th generation. I have had it for about two years now and after about one year, I plugged in my iPod into my computer to sync more music. Here is the problem: The tab where you go to sync music to your iPod and shows the list of artists and songs you want to sync to the iPod, the tab I can get to but the list of songs and artists does not show up and the only way I can sync music to my iPod is to basically wipe my iPod and start from scratch. Obviously, I do not want to do that because I do not have all the songs in my library that I have on my iPod. I have uninstalled iTunes and then re-installed it, but it did not work and I do not know what else to do. I would really appreciate helpful guidance to get it fixed if it can be fixed. Thanks in advance
