2 sided booklet

Goodday all!
I have been given a task (for my school's newspaper) to create a double sided booklet. It is 40 pages long in total. And it needs to be half the book at the frotn, then flip it and then the other part of the book at the back. Hope this makes sense! Will have different covers back and front ( one side will appear upside down till it is flipped?
I already have 2 indesign files. 1 is the newspaper of the lower grades (1, 2 and 3) and the other one the newspaper of the higher grades.
What do you suggest. Is it possibe?
Thanks in advance!

CS3 will let you place InDesign files directly. In Booklet 2 add a Master Page with just a graphic frame on it. Rotate the frame 180°. The Frame should fill the page, with bleed if necessary. Add 20 pages using that Master Page at the back of Booklet 2. Go to page 40 and Place Booklet 1, turning of Show Import Option (or just hold Shift when you click OK). Import all pages, and click OK. Now just click once one each page, from 40 down to 21.

  • Two Sided Booklet Printing Problems

When I print two-sided booklet, the first side prints OK; however, then I fold into booklet , the second side (center pages) are upside down. how can I get the pages to pring correctly on both sides?

Then use this script for CS3:
    http://pdsassoc.com/downloads/Buildbooklet.zip
Then once you create your booklet, export to PDF. From acrobat you can print odd pages and even pages only. I *think* you may have to select print reverse order for the second pass since page one will be at the bottom of your pile when you reload paper for second pass. Do a test with a few sheets first.

  • CS4 InDesign not printing correctly on HP1320 LaserJet for 2-sided booklets

I'm trying to print chapters in a book, using 2-sided printing from CS4 InDesign (V 6.0.4) to an HP1320 LaserJet printer using an iMac computer. This used to work with CS InDesign (V 3.0.1) using a Dell PC and the same printer. The page prints on both sides, but is limited to 8.5 inches of the 11 in side.  [My pages are 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 with two pages on one side of the page; when finished, the book is 5 1/2" by 8.5".] I've tried lots of combinations of page orientation in both the InDesign File/Print Booklet/Print Settings.../Setup and in the File/Print Booklet/Print Settings.../Printer... but nothing seems to solve this. Any suggestions?  Thanks.

You need to be sure the print dialog is set up to print the pages in landscape orientation.
    -=-=-=-=-
I'd be happy to try. Here are the steps I take, but you should realize that I've done this so many times over the past several days (up to a couple of weeks) that I try different things each time.
I've got a couple of book projects that use similar formats. One is a textbook and the second is a daily log I keep (not always "daily"). Both are printed and bound to become books that are on the order of 400 to 500 pages and are 8.5" by 5.5" in size.  So, I have a file I want to print and I want it to come out with side-by-side 5.5 x 8.5" pages (two on each side of an 8 1/2 by 11 inch sheet of paper (i.e., two sided printing).
In InDesign, I click on File, Print Booklet..., and here is what the window looks like: [see attached file "Screen shot 2009-12-02 at 5.51.44 PM.pgn.]
To get it to show "Booklet Type: 2-up Saddle Stitch," I had to click on "Print Settings" at the bottom and select "Setup" and then "Orientation: landscape (2nd from the left on the choice of four orientations)."  I also usually go to "Page Setup..." and make sure I chose "Orientation: landscape."
Then I go to the "Printer..." button at the bottom of the "Print" window and select things so it looks like this:  [see attached file "Screen shot 2009-12-02 at 5.57.44 PM.pgn.]
To get this, I had to click on the "Layout" option and then "Booklet Printing." That automatically selected "Two-Sided" printing.
As far as choices go, I think that is it.
The page that printed most recently with those settings came out with four (not two) pages on each side of the page. Further, the four pages that printed on the back side of the sheet of paper were upside down relative to those on the front side. This may be the result of using "2-up Saddle Stitch" but I'm not sure of that.
But here is the problem that has really been bugging me: the pages on one side of the paper don't go as far toward the margin as they should. Here is one example of low-res pictures of the front of the page that printed.
The page shows two full "pages" along the left top and right top, but along the left and right bottom pages, only about half of the pages printed.  The back side of the sheet of paper was similar, with only half of the "pages" showing for two of the four pages on this side.
So, I hope this is enough information for you. I'd be happy to provide more if needed. And thank you for even attempting to help. I've been struggling with this issue for a couple of weeks (I'm retired, so I sure don't spend full time on it, but I sure have spent hours at it, all to no avail).

  • 2-Sided Booklet printing: any trick to tweak a Ricoh printer?

We've just recently switched to the newest iMacs, and upgraded to Adobe CS4 at the same time.
We have two Ricoh printers we use: an Afico MP7000 and an Afico MP C2500.
We can print double-sided A3 booklets on the 7000.
    We cannot on the 2500.
We're using AppleTalk as the route to print on both printers.
Last year, prior to upgrading both our Mac hardware and Adobe software, we could print double-sided A3 booklets on both printers.
Our IT guys have provided us with the latest printer driver for the 2500. It's the PS one.
Everything we've tried thus far has proven fruitless. We have adjusted the printer settings to print two sided with short-edge binding (identical setups for both the 7000 and 2500).
Why can we print double-sided on the 7000 and not the 2500?
Is there a trick setting in InDesign to make this work?
Is there an alternate driver we might try on the 2500? We've tried using a generic post-script driver, and no joy.

I'm PC based, and don't have your printers, but as a temporary workaround you might want to try printing to PDF, then printing the PDF two-sided.

  • Double-Sided Booklet Printing

I am trying to print a booklet, my issue is that I can't just print some of the pages. I need to print on both sides, yet my printer doesn't print double sided.
So... how do I print just pages 1 and 20. Then load the printed page back in the printer. Then print just pages 2 and 19????
    Thanks!

If this is a laser printer which doesn't have a duplexing facility, take care - do a test first. The heat generated during printing can melt the toner on the reverse side of the paper causing it to coat the rollers in the machine and then deposit specks of toner for ever more. In extreme cases the toner on the reverse of the page can melt and stick the paper to the rollers, causing paper jams and possible physical damage.

  • Two-sided Booklet printing

I'm trying to figure out a way to print an imposed booklet on two sides. This would mean printing (on a 16 page booklet): 16|1, 14|3, etc. and then flipping and popping the paper back in and backing up those pages with 2|15, 4|13, etc. Problem is that the booklet printer doesn't have an option to print every other signature. Bottom line, I can't really make a booklet that I can print out, fold and stitch. Ideas?

  • Printing from Adobe Acrobat Pro 9

I combined 10 Excel files into a single pdf for the purpose of being able to number the pages consecutively instead of having them restart at '1' when each file was printed.  The file is printed double-sided booklet.  The issue is that each of the original files does not have an even number of pages to print.  As such, the beginning of one report may start on the back of another report.  The users want to be able to see the start of each report on the front side of a piece of paper.  In essence, I need the printing to act as though a blank page is being printed for each report that has an odd number of pages.  It is okay for the blank page to be numbered, but need the next report to print on the front side of the paper.  Are there print settings that allow that to happen?  I don't want to manually insert the blank pages since I have to do this at least 20 times each month and some files have up to 30 reports in them.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

  • Formatting current document- x2 A4 sheets into 1 A3 sheet

Hey guys so i completed a document for a university design project where i need to create like an a4 flip book made by an a3 sheet if that makes any sense, so its just a single a3 sheet that i will print double sided (ends up being 4 A4 pages). Now they provided the template for us to complete the work on, and i did, and as i saved it as a PDF i realised the template was actually 4 A4 sheets!!! Even though the project has to be 2 A3 sheets printed doubble sided (which ends up being a single A3 sheet when printed)
Im using adobe indesign cs6 and i wanted to know how to format my current document into A3 sheets, so for example in the screenshot i have shown you see the bottom two pages you see for example the 2 a4 pages next to one another which looks like an A3 sheet, which has the word "corrupt" on one page and letters againgst the black background on the page next to it, how can i combine these two a4 pages to a single a3 sheet to be kept in the same format?,
note i want to combine both sets of a4 pages so i can print it as a doubble sided booklet!
    Thanks everyone

The "correct" way to do a project like this is to set up as facing A4 pages, and to lay out in consecutive page order as a reader would see the pages (reader's spreads), with a single pages for first and last pages. When it is time to print you can either use an impostion script, or File > Print Booklet... to "impose" the document into the printer's spreads for output onto A5.
From Print Booklet you can either print direct to a duplexing printer, or on PC you can print to PDF. For mac you would need to print to Postscript file and distill manually, which is a pain.
A third option is to simply export to PDF in single pages, then use Acrobat's booklet function to print.

  • How do I print on the back of 6x4 photo I have a photo smart 5520

I have 50 6x4 photos for wedding invite.and I need to print times ext on revers.

    Hi,
I take it that you want to print on the non glossy side of the 6x4 photo.
You can do this by simply inserting the paperglossy side up in the photo tray but becasue the back side is not designed to take ink, the print quality will be very poor and it likely smudge and smear very easily. I'd recommend letting them dry for a long time and avoid hadling until they are dry.
The other alternative would be to get double sided (booklet type) media which would give good photo quality on each side.

  • Printing problem from Adobe Reader

This has got me completely stumped!
I have an 8 page document which is 7.5 MB in size.
I want to print this as an A5 double-sided booklet on A4 paper. So, it should print pages 1 and 8 on one side of A4, then print pages 2 and 7 on the other side of that sheet. Then it should print pages 3 and 6 on the next sheet, then pages 4 and 5 on the other side. Therefore two sheets of A4 paper, which I can then fold up into and 8 page A5 booklet.
This is something I have done numerous times in the past with other files.
When I try to print this file, the file size of the spooled document goes up to 210 MB and then the printed output is one sheet of A4, with all 8 pages on it, 4 pages per side!
The printer settings I have used (which I have used successfully for other booklets) are:-
Page Scaling is set to 'Booklet Printing'
Booklet Subset is set to 'Both Sides'
Sheets from is set to '1 to 2'
    Binding is set to 'Left'
On the 'Finishing Tab' the properties selected are:-
    'Print on both sides'
    'Left binding'
    '2 pages per sheet'.
    'Portrait' orientation.
As I say, these settings have worked for lots of other documents.
    Any ideas?

If I click on the print button under file, there is a preview window but nothing in it or it's all black.  I'm assuming the Preview application is somewhere else.

  • Printing alignment issue

    Hi,
I am using inDesign CS3 on Windows XP. On the computer screen, my layouts look exactly how I want them to. However, when I print my document, the alignments are not correct. In particular, the master page spread seems not to line up with marks that I have made on individual pages. How can I fix the alignment issue?
The printer is a HP Laserjet 9000 dn -- an industrial strength behemoth.
    Thanks,
    Liat.

The master page content seems to be off by a millimeter or so when I print.
The "marks" I've drawn on the actual pages are lines and rectangles. These lines and rectangles are drawn so that they fit within certain areas of the master page content. When I print, the lines and rectangles are 1-2 millimeters off from where they are supposed to be with respect to the master.
In particular, my master page contains a theater seating chart. On the individual pages themselves, I "highlight" a certain seats in the chart by drawing a gray rectangles over these seats. When I print, these rectangles are shifted 1 mm to the left, and no longer fully "cover" the seats they are supposed to, making my publication look a bit sloppy.
Besides this 1-mm alignment issue between the master content and the content on individual pages, all other content is printing just fine.
I do not think that this is an issue of the page position in the print dialog box, since that would make a drastic alignment problem, not one as small as I am getting.
I thought about converting to PDF, but: I am printing my document as a booklet. I am working with 2-page spreads, each page being 8.5 by 5.5 inches. I have been using inDesign's "print booklet" function (2-up saddle stitch) to print my double-sided booklet. I have not yet figured out how to either (1) print PDFs as booklets or (2) export my inDesign document to PDF so that all the booklet-printing properties are preserved (i.e. page order, etc.), so that I can simply print the PDF normally.
I think you're right that PDF might be the way to go, since usually PDF's talk to printers better than inDesign seems to.
    Thank you,
    Liat

  • Two-sided printing and booklets (HP D2360)

I am trying to do two-sided printing and booklets with an HP DeskJet D2360 printer. I installed on my MacBook the software I downloaded from hp.com. The printer was correctly identified even before I installed its driver.
I am trying to print web pages, ODT documents, and PDFs documents from Preview, either two-sided or as booklets. The booklet printing option appears nowhere, while the two-sided printing option is grayed-out. Both options show up and work properly under Windows XP.

    1. If the form is a oure XFA form then you can control the duplex printing settings in the Master Pages. You may need to define a second Master page that has the duplex printing on for the appropriate pages.
    2. Yes having a checkbox indicate a value in another field is possible but you will need script to do it. On the chanege event of the checkbox you want checked you can add code like this:
    if (this.rawValue == 1){
         numericFieldName.rawValue = 100.00
    } else {
         numericFieldName.rawValue = 0.00;

  • Layout orientation problem when printing 2-sided InDesign booklet from pdf file

I created a booklet (layout, letter-half) and it prints correctly directly from the .indd file. When I convert it to a pdf and print from that file, the back-sided pages get reversed and print up-side down. In other words, pages 1 & 8 are fine, but back-sided pages 2 & 7 print in reversed order and upside-down. (The pdf file itself looks fine). I have tried to trouble-shoot everywhich way--from conversion level to printer level--but I can't get this to work. Any help? Tips? Thanks.

    Hi Doreen,
At 250 copies it may well be less expensive in consumables and time to have a quick print place to print this. Around here I would use my local FedEx Office. But I would also contact the offset/digital printer establishment I have used for years. A lot of the time they can match or beat the price and they do a better job.
    Take care, Mike

  • CS5 Print Booklet not working correctly - double sided issues

    Hi,
So I'm very familiar with Print Booklet and have done many books in the past double-sided, but somehow in the last few months, my InDesign is having trouble with page sequence when printing booklets. Instead of printing the odd spreads how it should ... I'm getting every other spread (within the 'odd only' or 'even only'). So for instance, in this one signature... I was supposed to get a print of the spread with pages 11 and 14, followed by the center of the signature which contained pages 12 and 13 on the left and right, respectively. What happened was 12/13 never printed but the spread before it did print, and the spread before THAT one didn't print. In the "preview" part on Print Booklet, it looks normal. It's just when it actually goes to print, it has a problem.
I've tried printing with my printer and on multiple others — happens everytime.
I'm trying to print a 24 page saddle-stitch booklet, double sided. I normally would print the odds first, flip the prints, and then print the evens. I have "print blank pages" and "print blank printer spreads" checked and everything seems to be normal... except it just keeps printing every other "odd" spread instead of all the odd spreads.
I'm going to be printing a 200+pg book soon with a lot of signatures and really don't want to have to manually organize them all... so any help would be gladly appreciated.
    my settings
I don't know if any of this even makes any sense... let me know. I'll do my best to explain it better. THANK YOU!

Your screen captures look correct, so the next step would be to go into the print driver (Click the Printer button, I believe) and check there to see if you've got it set to skip pages. After that, try trashing your prefs: Replace Your Preferences
